That was awesome. I saw some bro like reactions there with the fist aimed for aiming higher rather than fighting.

Eh, the weather got a bit worse but oh well. A little rain isn't going to stop competition, right?
Poor Sakamachi ;.; riding in the rain isn't easy. Glad they finished though.

And what, LOVE HINA?!

Poor 2nd years. Muscle pulls just before the finish line :(...This world is so cruel to the talent-less T_T Emotional moment with Tadakoro too. Damn that was intense though, even captain took his glasses off XD

Although I feel bad for the 2nd years it was a matter of fact ^^;

Onoda's struggle after that was nice to see. His despair after his pedal got broken was pretty sad to see but it lead to his nxt power up :D...Thnx to Teshima Onoda now knows the power of the Cleat shoes ^^

Can't friggin wait for the Inter-High. Damn if this practice is no where near enough compared to the Inter-High according to what Captain said then what the hell is the torture they'll be seeing in it O_O

Pfft, that stinger. Onoda really did get Imaizumi into Love Hime, I'm pretty sure of it XD.

I'm really happy that Onoda finished, even though I knew he would (the first episode starts with them at the Inter-High, pretty much), but now that means the camp arc is over with. A good thing, too, I was worried it was going to carry on too long. So looks like we'll get into more interesting things in the next episode. Looking forward to it.

If the scene where they lost was in the previous episode, I would have cry like crazy, I think. And the transition would have been better, now because of the second part, it doesn't even feel that they had really lose. Anyway.... I still shed a few tears for the second years :'(

Best line of the episode : "Onoda, I believe you."

I feel like I just finished watching endless eight again ... ok, maybe it wasn't that bad, but I'm sure glad it's over.

Onoda finally has all the tools to be good racer, I'm looking forwards to when he gets his light (speed?) wheels back on.

EPIC episode!
The second years did their very best in that last sprint, great to see them supporting the first years for Inter-High.
Onoda is twice as fast now with those new shoes and pedals c:

That was great. Those 2nd years pulled a nice fight.

So happy when Onoda finally crossed the finish line.

And lol at the omake XD

UGH

I knew the writers would pull this shit in typical sports manga/anime fashion.

During the race they tried WAY too hard to paint the 2nd years as the "bad guys" with the emotional background story.
And of course they (well at least "Perm Guy") lose only to come back to become supportive?

Nah, sorry but I don't buy that at all. These are high school kids. I would have expected him to be at least bitter for the next day or so. It would have been a lot better if they never portrayed him as "bad" in the first place with such underhanded tactics like bashing into other people's bikes.

In all honesty I dislike this arc cause it barely makes any sense.

For starters Kinjou is a bad leader if he never even bothered to tell/teach Onoeda about equipment and tricks on how to make life easier.

It's the first thing you do before sending them to a camp of hell!

Secondly I'm not happy with the way 2nd years lost. They should not have lost to begin with, considering that they have right equipment while first year are seriously handicapped. Especially Onoeda and Imaizumi. One has heavy wheels and another can't change gears, both things affect speed dramaticly.

Onoeda should never have a chance against Manami either, it simply made him look bad and there is nothing to look forward to if Onoeda was able to over take him with low stamina, heavy wheels and wrong shoes. The guy should be of no competition to him in real race now.

I also thought whole purpose of this episode was to make Onoeda ride in different weather conditions yet the moment he started to ride, the sky cleared up what means he'll be useless if it rains at the competition.

This arc seriously lowered my likeness for the show =/
It would be fine if not all those handicaps cause they made no sense and make everyone apart form 1st years look bad.

The episode was fun to watch all the way to the end.

What I don't quite understand is why the end of the 3rd day's race determined who would go to the interhigh? I know the 2nd years were pushing hard to 'break' the 1st years in their challenge, yet why did the captain and others think that particular lap should determine who goes? This just felt a bit strange to me...

Okay, I see many people are ranting about the senpais didn't tell or teach Onoda about the basics and shits. But I do remember that once Kanzaki said that he could ride perfectly for the first time on a race bike because he was totally unaware of that and he was happy and he was also going to catch up with his friends. I think that is how Onoda rolls, he can't be taught unless by himself or experiences and it seems like Kinjou knew that. If ever the senpai told Onoda that his wheel is heavy I do think that he'll be really down although Makishima told him later on. Just imagine, with cleat and a new (metal?) pedal, his speed is now boost up two times. Now, imagine him cycling with light wheels. Now, add dancing technique. Okay, done. Just my 2 cents.

Episode was awesome, one of the best episode yet of Yowamushi Pedal. Had some feels in it, quite sad for the second years.
"Children of Japan. And those who were once children. Listen! This is not a dream. This is not fiction. In reality, your superheroes were always fighting. To teach viewers courage and the meaning of justice! No matter how many enemies there are. No matter how strong evil is. Just remember. Does any another country have so many heroes? Has any another country been protected by multiple superheroes? Stand with me, friends! Remember when you used to watch your superheroes!
Once you may have given up this dream. But today, you can be a hero!"

You know, I don't mind Imaizumi and Naruko doing well in these races because they have experience under their belt, but Onoda doing this well with sub-par equipment is kinda too much. I really felt bad for Teshima and Aoyagi after the finish line collapse too, yet it's no surprise in the sports manga/anime genre where only the "talented" get to rise to stardom no matter how much hard work the others have on them.

I really like Onoda as a character, but at the moment he's in the main character loop of almost losing to winning by a thread. This sounds terrible but I want to see him suffer, to actually deal with disappointment and develop into an athlete of his own right.

Btw, anyone else want to see him get his own racer eventually? Those aren't cheap I know, but he can't keep on riding on a loaned bicycle forever.

The moment Onoda and the other first years won that last sprint was the moment I dropped this anime.

Okay, not really, but seriously Onoda had no reason to beat the second years-or rather, he had no reason to even be staying side-by-side with Imaizumi and Naruko. The only thing Onoda had in terms of training was riding to Akiba and back, what was it? Every day? But Imaizumi stated himself that he practiced riding an even greater distance every day. Then, during that last sprint, not only did Onoda have less practice and less experience than everyone else, but he was also exhausted, had improper shoes, and had much heavier wheels. He had just done a full sprint against Teshima, so he was clearly very exhausted. The second-years themselves said that they had been saving up their energy for that last race, too.

Honestly, Onoda is a terrible character. Sure, he values friendship very highly, and tries his best to not disappoint them, but Kinjou even said that no matter how strong your emotions are, or how true your friendship is, they will not necessarily lead you to victory. Yet Onoda over here seems to prove all of that wrong with pure friendship and willpower. So now we know that friendship and willpower is more powerful than months or years of training. And when he gets his wheels back to normal and uses cleats he will become, put simply, a cycling god (though I can already assume he will still struggle in the Inter-High to the point where a normal person would give up, but then he'll probably think about Imaizumi and Naruko and end up winning like always, or come in the top three with Imaizumi and Naruko).

I want to enjoy this show-it was one of my favorite during the first few episodes. But with Onoda blowing away interesting characters in a race with sheer willpower, and going far above and beyond his physical limits, it's hard to enjoy. Furthermore, regardless of how much Onoda struggles or fails, we all KNOW that he will ALWAYS come out the victor when he "tries" to. It's ridiculous.

<frustration vented>

that, and he is still riding a steel bike, and he only just got the clipless pedals.

Well somehow the first-years won. . . I was hoping the second-years just because they are more experienced. At last, the training camp is done.

I also found that scene unbelievable, almost embarrassing. I figured it was one of those morally upbuilding things that anime is so full of, like showing the shounen viewers how one should always be positive and ganbare etc.

If Perm Guy instead had been pissed for another day, like you suggest, and then come back positive with those knuckles in the freshmen's chests, at the end of the episode for example, it would have been a stronger scene.

But I'm not the scriptwriter and I mostly enjoy the biking scenes in this anime (and manga) anyway! And I don't like Onoda at all...

When the 2nd years lost I felt sooooo freaking disappointed. I mean why introduce characters and hype them up to just destroy them in the end. All 3 of the first years were handicapped and still won, what kind of logic is that. The author could have make it a draw at least, I mean the 2nd year were practicing since their 1st year are since middle school and onoda as been practicing for 2 or less weeks and he can beat them damn. Then the captain is going on about emotions and this and that blah blah blah, a captain is suppose to cheer on everyone on his team. All this manga teaches is that " Only talent make one achieve their goals and remember hard work gets you nowhere"^___ ^

Onoda learns things right after being taught them... so why do they never teach him the basics until he's at a crisis point? ^^; I mean, if it were me, I'd be like, "WHY DIDN'T ANYONE EVER THINK TO TEACH ME ABOUT CLEATS? OR THE LOWER HANDLEBARS? OR ANYTHING!?" Seriously, I'd be so annoyed. (actually, how come he never notices these things on his own? He's kind of dense.) ^^; At least his powerup this episode wasn't as much of an ass-pull. He did barely make it in time, after all.

Also... Where exactly did Teshima get that frame to fix Onoda's bike from? Seriously, where. He wasn't carrying when he arrived, was he? I don't remember seeing it. o.o;

I like the emotional weather. When Onoda is sad, it rains, but when he's happy it gets sunny. *lol*

Powerful episode, may be your typical situation with the whole realization of talent > hard work but I still felt the second-years' pain.

Onoda is really lucky that Perm-senpai came to the rescue.
