I smell a death flag on Takao. Kongou's pretty badass this episode as I had expected. The fight was alright I guess.

Poor 401 ;.;
Kongou's being way too hard on her. Oh shit, that ending..

What a great episode and can't wait how this will end up since this anime isn't really following the manga that much.

Nice strategy right there. The reverse decoy was a nice idea XD

Psychological warfare at its best. Poor Kongou. She's just too narrow minded and doesn't want to accept any points of view from others.

Still seems like he pulled one over them and brought Iori's sisters. Shit. 401 is destroyed O_o? I wonder how they'll be saved?

Well seems like Takao's dream of having Gonzou on her ship will come true since 401 is destroyed for now. Well when they save them that is.

Really loving Hyuuga. But she's pretty OP. I wonder how they won against her off screen? Or did she give up since she likes Iona?

Yes this is what i am talking about epic naval combat and brilliant strategy using the decoy and psychological warfare.

Hot Damn Takao looks great in blue it suits her more and Hyuuga is all sorts of crazy, a genius but crazy great combo.

Ha u see i told those 2 subs would pull of something unexpected but even i didn't expect that ambush at the end. looks like its the others turn to shine now hehe.

I real feel sorry for kongou i think she is more upset that she is getting left behind and being left alone u can practically see it in her eyes but she is so stubborn she can not even realize it.

Another new ending credit just how many did they make there is practically a new one in each episode.

Good point especially since there is nothing to say what happen to Maya.

Man that cliffhanger, but thinking about it when 400 or 402 states inoa has been sunk I can't quite shake the feeling that it's going to be that the subs 400 and 402 will presume iona is sunk and leave her to get takao

An ambush by 400 and 402 i was wondering when they would reappear and it was a pretty nice surprise, they still have to go though some hardships before they reach the States it seems.
Question is what will be at the States the start of the series suggests that other countries also have Fog fleets to worry about.
And Takao will also have to reach the point where 401 is headed.
Which probably wont be easy either.

Dat ending. Is hard to believe she actually sunk, considering the submarine that burst throu the surface in magnificent fashion is the main character(or main focus point) and we all know main characters in anime don't die before one furious go, they don't die, they come out stronger (right Eren?). Even if we consider it not as a main character but as a main focus point or main object in the show it is also unbelievable it will go down without a funal Hurrah. The Toyota Corolla AE86 in Initial D, the Panzer IV Ausf D-J in Girls Und Panzer and Gurren Lagann from TTGL, they just c ant die. So No I-401 is not sunk, and Iona and Gunzou is definitely not dead (ANIME FACT!)

Moving on, As expected from Ars Nova, Battles are always magnificiently done thou I just wish they cut down Kongo's tea party more, I find that it is actually getting in the way; Yes yes we know you are actually British so don't go round whining about your bill-oddie Tea, this is not K-On. Speaking of Kongo, yes, as a weapon and not a humnity, no hard and cold weapons goes masochistically Banzai charge at your opppenent sadistically(thou I think this episode kinda illustrates Kongo in its full sadistic glory, Look at dat gaze, I crap at that gaze). I kinda sympathize Kongo, after her burning desire and coming so close in killing I-401, only to be left hurt and miserable, there is no other way on explaining that expression as she rise ontop of the stormy seas. Onwards, Hyuuga, holding up a full blast from a fully functioning Battleship Supr-apocalyptic-end-it-all cannon, I'd say thats pretty Op for a Aerial Battleship scattered across Iwoto. Maya, someone put too much caffine and sugar into Maya's oil tank, and she must have something else to play after dispatching away her sisterly fight, leaving Kongo alone. And Takao......wow, much Tsundere, dat superstructure, so hot, wow........seriously, taking inspiration from the Panzer IV Ausf D in Girls Und Panzer that is one seriously nicely decorated bridge room, oh look, theres even a chair for Gunzou. Oh and about tectics, another one of the well defining point of Ars Nova, or all the Aoki Hagane no Aperggio series for that matter, it illustrates clearly brains will come out on top of brawns, I mean Kongo seriously, what are your light cruisers(6 of them!) even doing. Naval tectics are a defining example of winning in the seas , Tsushima for example, Transfalgar and Kirishima's last stand in Guadacanel(the real IJN Kirishima). Naval tectics play an influencial role in overcoming a greater opponents in numerical value, thou exception plays for a greater numerical opponents such as Jutland and the hunt for the Bismarck.

Hopefully, as far as the anime goes, I did hope and do continue to hope, takao dosen't get sunk. And in the manga, the fog fleet has some sanction questioning the admirality code and its ideals and some breaking away from it, an internal struggle much to the mangas's characteristic. Gunzou's fleet did include a human super sub in the manga, but I guess the two Kongo-class Battleship made up for that and speculation did include a British Battlecruiser to join Gunzou along with a British destroyer. But as of now Gunzou's state looks dire and I guess the two sen-takus are now after Takao as well.

Overall episode: 9.5/10 (-0.5 for hurting beloved Iona)

Now speaking of humanity in the fog as this is quite a main topic of this episode, in the manga(yes the manga rent again) the fog ship I find that displayed the most amount of humanity is the flagship of the Fog herself. there is no denying that in the manga , and to an extand Ars Nova, only Kongo is the coldest and 'we are weapons' thinking of the Fog(oh yeah theres her sister Hiei too....and also Myoko). The sen-takus are very lively on the manga, with, if I am not mistaken, I-402 being a hardcore Otaku and a known Hikikomori in the fleet. The flagship even has a small watermelon garden next to her 460mm guns. All in all, the fog has , since gaining a mental model, a sentient being much like Yaya from Machine-doll Kizutsukanai, and like yaya , fated to become weapons of war. In some extand Mental Models can be mirrored to the Dragons from How to train your Dragon(not an anime but still counts), Eve from Black Cat and the deco-I do not how to spell from Elfen Lied; Powerful beings and born weapons, but lost in their identity and purpose.

Great episode. A lot of action. Oh Kongou. She just to into the old ways. I least she admit to having some emotions. Wasn't expecting her to tell Iona that she hated her. Hyuuga is bad ass. Most be what the power of love can do for you. Love the reverse decoy plan. The way they showed it I though everyone was on the ship. Wonder what they are going to do about Takao.

Dat ending was so unexpected. I want to believe that someone will come but I think 400 and 402 will stay there just to confirm it. Also because of that ending I now think Maya is tailing Takao. Can't wait for next episode.

They all can submerge.
But Takao did say she doesn't like being submerged because she can't use all her weapons. Probably for practical reason such as controlling the flooding that the surface ships are not adjusted too (and by specs, subs don't bring that cannon)

BTW, shouldn't super graviton cannon have the Moses Effect that splits the ocean ?
It happened when 401 used the cannon on Takao from underwater too.
Doesn't happen this time when Takao and Kongou used theirs.

Still hasn't been shown yet, but manga readers suspected aircraft carriers (so far only Zuikaku shown in the manga) can fly.
Fogs doesn't use airplane and the ship function is changed from Carrier to Suppression.

Unlike most people here, I don't think Takao will die at all, and this is me in my anime-only perspective. Most likely, she'll take them on by herself, with help from Haruharu, Kirishima and Hyuuga, maybe Maya will switch sides somehow too. Takao won't die, since she has all the members of Blue Steel up there, duh :P.

Holy shit.

I thought the show couldn't get any better than it already was, and yet this episode SOMEHOW still managed to step it up for me personally. All of that emotional baggage flying around, especially with Iona and Kongo. Kind of sad to see Maya relegated to the side-lines, though I'm sure she would develop splendidly when the time comes to see how Kongo develops from this point on. Because I'm fairly certain after that kind of ending, she's not going to take in all of this sitting down.

Gahhhh now I can't wait until next Monday. About time Gunzou and Iona ACTUALLY get into a situation they can't really pull a rabbit out of their ass to solve; now they're DEFINITELY going to need the others on this one instead of relying on Gunzou's insane luck.
Will I fall in love someday? I wonder?

I really love how they mix the lighthearted and serious parts these past few episodes. The tension is there but the comedy doesn't feel forced (I'm looking at you Kyoukai no Anata). Even when Iwoto was getting bombarded by Kongou, Hyuuga's Koroko-like reaction to Iona felt normal.

"I guess I don't have a choice." Every tsundere has to have this in her verbal arsenal LOL. Takao having the 401 crew just eliminated the possibility of having "that" encounter IMO. And I doubt the staff would just go grimdark on her just for shock I mean even the manga isn't that dark.

Iona's conversation with Kongou just further highlighted Iona's growth from her intial "my order is to follow Chihaya Gunzou's orders" to "I want to stay by him." The same can be said with Kongou. She actually knows how to hate now haha :D And as pointed by Takao and Hyuuga, Kongou wouldn't have fallen for the trick if she was her normal self.

400 and 402 ambushing Iona...I'm clueless to what might happen O___O

Another superb series. But it increasingly looks like Kongou's not going to align herself with Gunzou's crew after all. And I thought Iona's sisters were going to play a role, but I definitely didn't expect them to ambush Gunzou and Iona when they're most vulnerable. Nice setup though. Now we'll just have to see how they get out of this pinch.

I think kongou will come around at the last moment, while not 'aligning' herself with the humans. I expect her to change in someway, she's in huge shock and disbelief that her perfect plan failed. She does hate the 401 but she's basically in denial that she suffers from the same anomalies she accuses everyone else of.

I think that whole scene with her in the rain is the start of a begrudging realization but it's probably not going to manifest till the very end.

I could do without the "magical girl" fan service costume change. That was so awkwardly out of place it was hard not to notice. I generally don't get all uppity about fan service and even enjoy it if its part of the story. But I hate when it's pointlessly thrown in my face like that.

Was quite the shocker at the ending. But i was like "Oh yeah, I forgot about those two." I hope there's a rescue coming. With the series going anime original, it's hard to know what will happen next.

that split ocean efect i think just for to make enemy canot move or catch enemy same like 1st time iona use to takao to make her canot move n kirishima+haruna use to catch iona from ocean.

in this episode kongou not use that efect i think because her dont want waste time or dont have enought time to use that maybe her know iona want use full burst to run that why. LOL

^Lmao!

But still, great episode. A lot of emotions were flying around. And Kongou...she was angry. She's obviously starting to show emotions, too, so I wouldn't be surprised if she winds up leaving the Fog in the end. I bet she does feel a bit lonely now, and is misdirecting her feelings.

And they kept the fight suspenseful, but I had a feeling that it was a little too easy. I figured something might happen at the end of the episode, but that was more than I expected. I wonder how they're gonna get outta that one. Iona's not destroyed, but she's in pretty bad shape. The next 3 episodes should be really interesting.

She broke off her attack on Takao the same time Kongou went after 401, so I have a feeling that she also is advancing part of Kongou's ambush plan.

As for the people snarking about Kongou submerging, this ability was shown way back in episode 3 when Takao breached her cruiser when 400 and 402 confronted her at the bookstore. Remember these aren't actual warships, rather they are nanomachines in the form of warships.

And to the manga readers, after hearing your complaints I went out and bought the books (and read though vol. 4). Far from being disappointed, I think the adapters have done an even more outstanding job than I did before. Considering that they had 11 episodes to work with, they have done an excellent job at cutting out the unessential in order to make the animation stand alone and appeal to a wider audience. They have touched on all the important points of the manga (including the Admiralty Code), introduced the most prominent characters, and in some ways improved upon the original (I think the animation's treatment of the Haruna and Kirishima fight was better for appreciating the MC's strategic competency than it was in the manga).

Have they changed the story, yes, but they have done so for a good purpose: they are providing an ending for this show. In that the likelihood of a season two was near zero to begin with, I salute them for taking this option. Would I have preferred the complete animation of the series? Of course, but that isn't the fault of the production team, like all of us they have to play the hand they were dealt, and they have done so adroitly.

I think the missing of the fog supreme flagship could have been avoided. In the manga she was by far the most pivotal character in the fog, by contrast Kongo seems to be the background scary lady no one dare to mess with which was what she was in Ars Nova up til episode 7. True to the fact that the manga has a HUGE cast, Battleships and humans. Politics could be avoided and so are the additional Battleships that didn't do much, a certain Japanese 16 in Gunned Battleship for instance. But is quite impossible to think they went without Yamato in Ars Nova, given the fact the original manga intended to put Yamato in place of I-401 (until they realize all with Gunzou tectics, Yamato would be pretty OP). The admirality code thou also is a pivotal point but I ain't complaining since there is only ONE scene it appears significantly in the manga before dissapearing for good.

And who am I kidding I am ranting here about one of my favorite warship, a Japanese Battleship anime without the most influencial Japanese battleship, blesphemy!
