THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------

Time to get serious~, this guy is kinda badass imo.

The fight was okay I guess, wasn't too special though. Well at least Arata embraces the light.

I can sufficiently say that this was my favorite episode of the series thus far. The Shinsho battle was great and it may herald some more great moments to come. I don't know why, but the drama with Ohika and his wife was more tragic in the manga than in the episode, but it was still good.

However, be that as it may, it does seem like they are switching things up a bit. They appear to be mixing Kannagi and Akachi's arcs together, I'm guessing for time purposes. They appear to be showing you their backstory ahead of time, even though in the manga you don't find out about them once being best friends until quite a while later. I don't know if I like that so much since the backstory is one of the best things about Akachi's arc and what makes it hit so hard emotionally.

Both Aratas are seen this episode and both of them are done well. The re-did the present day stuff a bit, but it's fine as is.

Yes, this was a good episode, and I would give it an 9/10, if not for one thing:

Why did they have to write Seo out of this adaptation?!!!!! He's one of my favorite characters in the story and he has a very important purpose! Why do they leave him out? It can't be for time reasons since even in the manga he appears when Arata needs him and disappers just as fast. And now this creates a plothole in the story. If Arata's grandma and Kotoha always knew the sword's name they would have told him earlier in the beginning, since knowing the sword's name gives you more power and will help to fully awaken the hayagami.
It worked that Seo was the one who advised Arata on how to go about the submission battle and gave him the name of the sword, since he wasn't a character always with Arata and so he never told him until that moment. Also Seo is one of those all knowledgeable characters that can both teach and inform the MC.
Was this just to give Kotoha more to do? Because I'm sorry, that girl will always be as 2D and flat as paper. It was just the way she was designed.

So because of that very annoying point, I had to deduct. So I give episode 6 an 8/10.

Well as for the guy with the blue hair, you saw him in episodes one and two as well as the opening. He's one of the 12 Shinsho. For the record, his name is Yorunami.

And if you're talking about Akachi's eyes:

He gave him what he wanted, but he still killed them anyway. I am sure in the future they'll come with some bs and forgive him for his crimes.

And this series just got a bit dark (3 dead ladies and an unborn child to boot), but that's good, was kinda just moving along for a bit there, time for some direction!
Good to see more of real world Arata, and maybe more next episode too!

Whoa damn!!!! Akachi killed those people after he got his power 0__0. Cool fight though.

Is this the fate of those who have Hayagami. To give up their lives just to power up their Hayagami. I would understand if it was used for good but for evil. That guy who gave Hinohara his Hayagami. He entrusted him.

Will Akachi sacrifice his life for Kannagi when they fight for real. Same with Hinohara vs Kadowaki. Will Kadowaki do the same. I hope they both go back to their world and become friends again. Not enemies like Kannagi and Akachi : (

Edit
I hope the Princess can really change things

So why exactly is Arata the main character in this anime? Why did he just stand there with his Hayagami out and not doing anything? It was clear as day he would've killed the woman and force him to submit... Seriously, sometimes anime make no sense at all...

Damn Akachi is friggin Ruthless!! Killing the wife made me cringe ):
But he is pretty damn BA!

Arata couldn't do a damn thing but at least he's found his resolve now...so hopefully no more chickening.

Arata in the normal world has finally gone to school and it seems he's having one big misunderstanding after seeing the photo in the bedroom probably thinking he and Kadowaki are friends or sth. Can't wait to see how that goes hehe XD

I refuse to call Akachi badass, what he's done is unforgivable and just horrible in general, I don't know how he's going to redeem himself for me. Somehow I can't come to hate Akachi though, probably because he's not killing out of cold blood. I feel horrible for Kannagi though.

The problem with this anime is, that I actually don't hate or dislike really, any characters whether or not they've done horrible things.

This episode was really emotional.

That kind general refuses to cooperate him., but still got forced. So that guy is even stronger because 8 vs. 2 hayagami power. There's something happened between the two "friendly" generals, it seems. So that tomb was for the girl who got killed by the flame.

It's nice that the bandit guy to give him a "slap". There's even a sword that don't hurt people, "Tsukuyo"? And another Arata meeting that "friend" that has grudge for some reason without knowledge.

That asshole killed her and the unborn child. He had better die in a painful way. Anyway this episode was pretty good. This anime is slowly getting decent. Looks like we will see what the other Arata is up too in the other world in the next episode.

Pretty good episode. Nice to see Kannagi get his ass kicked. Too bad about the guy and his wife, i'm guessing in the end they will all be brought back to life somehow. Thought Arata got his resolve in the prison, but seems like he is still just a whiny little wuss. They need to kill off Kotoha and the red hair kid, then perhaps Arata's balls would drop finally.

Wow that Akachi, no mercy. But glad Arata is finally got his shit together at the end. I was pretty sure it was obvious that the other guy didn't submit to him just because Arata won, but I guess it wasn't obvious to him. I guess we'll be getting a flashback next episode. Looking forward to seeing what happened between Kannagi and Akachi.

I agree with the Seo thing. And this whole anime in general. I can't tell if it's moving too fast or too slow. Like bringing up the flashback and Emisu in this episode worked okay, I guess, but it's too fast, while that extra scene in the real world seemed almost like a delay tactic. (Give me the legit real world scenes already! *cries*)

This pacing is starting to feel really really REALLY painful OTL

Halfway through the "12 episode-series" and it feels like nothing much has happened....I mean...seriously....

It feels like we could spend the rest of the 6 episodes focusing on this Akechi, Kannagi thing then throw in some "real-world" Arata stuff....and we could easily never actually mention/show the other handful of Sho that are shown in the opening......

Despite all the self conflicting crying which has started to become too cliche in such anime as a character building method this episode was still the best of the series until now.
I don't know how to feel about that ex-friend now foe from his school going to that world(which is clearly shown in the ED) though. I kind of feel like i don't really want to see them all fighting and crying out their feelings and that but i just want to see a clear fight with a goal.
I guess in the end the fire guy will submit to our hero and the guy that killed everyone in this episode would submit to his dark ex-friend after he fails to win against our hero for a final battle?

Btw guys. Can you help here cause am confused. I though only 12(13 with the one our main has) exist. But now we see that each guy of those 12 has others with that kind of swords are subjects and so on. Are their swords inferior? Why aren't they kings of an area too?

The woman was beyond saving the moment he put his spikes around her neck. The only way for her to be saved was the slight hope that he would have kept his word. If Arata jumped there was no way he could save her before the spikes impaled her.

The fucker killing a pregnant woman, that was brutal...
A lot of villans are forgiven/redeemed in shounen manga, please don't tell that there will be some bs reason and they will forgive him or something along those lines.

The rest was so dumb though.
Freaking Arata stood there behind the screen while he saw blood splatter the first.
You would think he wouuld at least try to go see what Akachi was doing, but no he just stands there and lets somebody else get killed.

Kannagi seemed so hardcore but he was so lame in the fight.
I get that they might have been friends from that flashback but he gave up too quickly.

There are 12 Shinsho. These are the Sho that have the most powerful hayagamis and therefore have duties and responsibilities to the land and the people and thus have their own realms that are not really kingdoms but more like fiefdoms with them as the lords. There are two sets of Shinsho: the 5 Elemental Shinsho, and the 6 Masked Shinsho. The 5 Elementals have hayagami that have power over earth, fire, wind, water, and sky. Kannagi is fire, Akachi is earth, the blue-haired one at the end, was Yorunami who is water. Because they have power over a particular element, they cannot be harmed by that element, so Kannagi cannot be burned, Akachi couldn't die in quicksand or an earthquake, and Yorunami couldn't drown. They use this fact and their hayagami to handle the natural disasters that plague the people of the land, whether that be tornadoes, floods, wildfires, etc., that's their duty as Shinsho.

The 6 masked Shinsho are a little more mysterious...

And all of them are under the Imperial Princess.

Under the 12 Shinsho are their own specific Zokusho. Each Shinsho can have as many Zokusho as they want. The Zokusho are like governors who are directly under the Shinsho and take care of their territory within the Shinsho's land. Their hayagami are not as strong, as their powers tend to be something more simple: such as with Ohika and his power of blacksmithing. The Zokusho are loyal to their Shinsho, and they will follow him, even if he's in the wrong.

Anyone one else who can use a hayagami but is not a Shinsho or Zokusho is just a Sho. This is what Arata and the warden over Gatoya were.

(One thing to note is that being a Sho is quite a sexist profession, since of all the Shinsho, Zokusho, and Sho we've encountered, ALL of them have been male. Quite an interesting tidbit there...LOL)

Eventually, if a Sho can become the most powerful of all of them and get all other hayagami and Sho to submit to him, he will become Emperor (or "King" in this show's translation) and he will have rule over the entire kingdom. The Emperor is above the Princess, and if the Emperor were to return there would be no need for a Princess. She is really a place-holder until the rightful heir to the title of Emperor returns.

The anime will not convey this because it's impossible with only 6 episodes but Akachi has a very tragic backstory, the most tragic one. Of course it won't justify killing a pregnant woman but that he doesn't have any regrets on killing anyone with the way he lived is understandable.

Let me tell you this, if Hinohara confronted Akachi he had no chance of winning (in fact he never managed to defeat him in the manga).

Kannagi was shocked with all those deaths and he didn't want to fight him, he actually thinks that Akachi has all the reasons to hate him so that's why he seemed weak.
Akachi's arc is the last one of the 5 elemental Shinshou in the manga and until then Kannagi deals with everything without his Hayagami, I don't think that's possible if he was that weak.

I put on a few, but I really just supplied general information and nothing that would actually spoil the plot or anything. Most of the information can as of this point be figured out by now since they have begun to reveal the Shinsho and Zokusho, and their abilities.

Finally, a battle between Kannagi and Akachi happened... although Kannagi is way too pathetic this episode since he didnt put much of a fight.

Akachi on the other hand had more personality, even with him killing the wife.

I really wonder which direction the series will lead to now.

And hopefully Arata fulfill his words and avoid being weak now.
