Hell of a way for them to reintroduce this show again. Cool to see Wangnan Ja entering this show with that personality of his. After some of the character introductions, it looks like this season isn't wasting much time getting the juicy part of the story again. Jyu Viole Grace is another noticable character who had been advertised in the promotional material. Wangan Ja is kind of a hothead but it shouldn't take too long to get used to. This served as both an opening and setup episode. On the other hand, Jyu Viole Grace is more of a badass who lets his action do the talking. Not sure how many episodes this season will have but I'm ready for more Tower of God. |

The return of the OG manhwa anime adaptation of SIU's Tower of God after 4 years, with a different studio plus staff overhaul, and a rather generic artstyle that's not as unique as Season 1 back in Spring 2020. NiziU's OST is rather OK, though the visuals more than make up for the lack of song attitude. The constant reminder that "all homies still hate Rachel for the betrayal she brought to Bam", the end of the beginning of the Tower begins to turn its head once again on the Jahads, especially Yuri, who now has two of 13 Month Series weapons. That's the short recap for Season 1 a.k.a Part 1 Contuting with Part 2 of the story, taking place 6 years after Season 1, switching protagonists from Bam to the Prince of the Jahads, Ja Wangnan, he resides on the 20th Floor of the Tower, who's been trying to surpass the level for God knows how long he's stuck on the floor from failing the E-rank exam again and again. Not to mention that Wangnan is on a heavy debt, and he's only given one last chance to pass it. Sadly, whom Jangnan encountered is another examinee who's already done the job he's supposed to do, and Bam sure has aged since Rachel's betrayal. The other examinees who've made their way to the same arena for the next test, it's a pointless affair since Bam can defeat everyone without any issue, since he's a member of the anti-Jahad group FUG, which forces everyone to work together to stop Bam. Wangnan barely survived the ordeal, as Bam climbs the elevator, in remembrance of Rachel. A good return with Part 2, though less refined than Season 1. |

TOG is back after four years, but were those four years used well to up to animation? Well...... NiziU's OP musically is OK. Visually, might just be the worst OP I've ever seen. Same thing with their ED. Well right off the bat you can tell something different about the character designs compared to last season. Animation is the same as last time, average. It's really just the character designs and art style that changed, and I mean, their more anime-ish so sure okay. That aside, half the episode is just setting up this new character that'll be the Khun of this season ig. To which then, the second half finally shows us our dude Baam again. Dude took that betrayal from Rachel to heart. Doesn't even look like Baam anymore. I like that he's acting likke a real MC now, but does he have to say the most edgy things every... lol. Fighting animation looked rather decent. If I'm not mistaken though, all the scenes in that fight were in the trailers.... it's not looking too good if that's the case. And no way this dude contiues to have visions of Rachel after what happened... ffs. OSTs are as good as ever, thanks to Kevin. At least Baam will be tolerable as an MC this time around. But the question still remains, will the pacing actually be good this time around? |

They are seriously pronouncing FUG as fug and not F U G? Sounds so wrong. The action animation looked cool and Bam has gotten stronger and better at using his powers and some new powers too. He's now joined the opposing faction of Zahad even though Zahad princesses are fawning over him. Talking about princess you could see two different pictures. In one Androssi crying cause Bam's dead while Yuri believing that he didn't die and looking for him. Love Yuri so much. OP/ED were both okay, might grow on me dunno. Good first episode to comeback with. While my favourite arcs are way later so this season won't be going anywhere near those but it still should have good stuff in it like introducing more characters, lores and such and slowly reaching for the peaks. |

This is the starting point of TOG where shit really gets good. I'm up to date with the manhwa and it will only get better. The shift in the style is something I gotta get used to, but it's not anything bad I'd say. Bam also looks magnificently better and he's not some kid anymore who can't use his powers. Also Yuri (best girl) believes in him that he didn't die from that. |

Tower of God is back and man is the hype for this almost non-existent compared to when it first aired. Now obviously the source material was very hyped with a lot higher expectations for the anime to be great, alongside the benefit of the pandemic starting to create more buzz for people to watch it but seeing the forums online not flooded does spell different times somewhat compared to before. The first episode was a little clunky visually but not a surprise. Obviously the artstyle being an underwhelming change does not help for me since I always liked season 1's artstyle and character designs. But the animation while having a couple nice impact frames and effects with Viole's shinsoo, did look a bit stiff even here with the action since the movement and angles at times did feel a bit awkward at times and not quite met the sakugafest standards that some of the show's counterparts have been delivering in terms of action this season like Wistoria's premiere or the Elusive Samurai premiere to name a couple. Not bad overall and you could argue the action had more appeal to it than some of the first season's action but definitely not perfect either. Pacing was alright for this episode since the ending point made a lot of sense so that is good. Jyu Viole Grace is here and not taking anyone's shit and basically wanting to ascend the tower and not get close to anyone, even throwing down and dominating the others in the test there rather than just patiently wait the whole time through to the very end to get it done. Wangnan's here too and while he isn't a personality type I love the most, it was nice seeing him and the newer cast here that this season of Tower of God will follow for the time being. Ultimately, the anime wanted to show JYG being a massive threat, especially since he is from FUG, and it shows. The intensity surrounding Viole is good and does make up for some deficiencies with this episode to build up this part of Tower of God and have it start off in this kind of fashion. A definite change in tone compared to the first season a bit. Yuri also met with Maschenny after returning with the Green April and meeting up with Repellista to seek help in locating Baam. I will say, Yuri is my favorite character in Tower of God and both the Japanese and English versions that I saw before had her sounding really good but she felt a bit off in this episode, almost sounding like a different character at times. I don't know if it's just been that long since I saw this show in Japanese but it was strange admittedly. Kevin Penkin's music still is really good and one of the definitive highlights of Tower of God's anime since its inception. But I will say, the music complimented season 1's unique, mysterious artstyle compared to this. There was a bit more of a disconnect for me hearing badass tracks present here with a much more standard, generic artstyle. Made in Abyss' music is fantastic but if that music played over completely generic, bland art, the music would be far less powerful than compared to what Kinema Citrus offered for it. Similar feelings for me are with this, some tracks sound perfectly fine with the anime and some feel a bit off, even if it sounds really good with my eyes closed. I've had my say about the opening. It's by no means perfect whatsoever but considering what I was hearing about the opening being one of the worst ever, it's definitely not. It's different and a bit more creative even with the limited animation. The Urek Mazino cut in particular albeit brief, was really good. The song isn't that good but I generally have never liked music like this and I will say, I found it a little better with the opening than just listening to it on its own. It isn't an Opening of the Year or Season contender but there have been far worse than this. Far, far worse and far, far blander and lazier. I can say that the ED is not good though. It does follow the webtoon reading style but doesn't shown enough drawings of characters there which did feel a lot lazier in that sense. Song is worse too. I'll take these over Stray Kids music though, I don't listen to K-pop at all and when I heard their Tower of God songs 4 years ago, those were absolutely terrible. |

@Kronosyo You are probably right but yeah, it is definitely a lot more annoying for the start at least since man it looked way more incomplete than I thought. I've seen shows that hide a little with an opening or ending and show it fully later but not this much hidden material to unlock. |

This ep was pretty gas, last few minutes were so much fun and looked great. Viole oozes so much more aura than Baam did and should make s2 a lot of fun hopefully for others as well since ik a lot of people had issues with Baam as a character in s1. Penkin's music is still so, so good. |

@MegamiRem I might be in the extreme minority but I always pronounced it as FUG together than separately when reading it so it felt more normal to me. It rolled off the tongue a lot smoother and natural that way for me. Kind of like how NASA is said as NASA and not just N, A, S, A separately. |

animejas said: TOG didn't become TOG in one day. It's a lengthy series with a lot to take in and a very well established world that was built upon years. Nowadays people just want cool action happening one after another with fast paced build up like most battle shounens out there. Also forums have been less and less active ever since the covid lockdown ended and people went on with their lives. Very few animes have over 100 comment in episode threads these days.Tower of God is back and man is the hype for this almost non-existent compared to when it first aired. @MegamiRem @animejas From research, FUG written as 퍼그, which is pronounced as 'peogeu' if what i saw be correct. So the pronounciation basically does indicate it is fug together. |

Lost all the sauce last season had and just went for the generic look possible. The new studio's background, this being 2 cours, I wouldn't be surprised if the production completely falls apart. Like bro i've never seen an ED that lazy. |

Yep i know its back with different studio and have generic anime art & characters style but.. Hear me out.. I kind of applauded the action in this season, not the top notch but it's pretty adjustable and at least it's not skipping chapters like "God of high school" Nor it on to much of bad side. Anyways trust me, i actually not happy but after watching episode 1,I am not sad either. It's my opinion, share me yours. |

Nice to see TOG back. Now that I have watched season 1 of TOG I really think it's a shame that the art style changed. Looks a lost more generic now. Music is still great by Kevin Penkin. Op and ed are fine. Not great but I wouldn't say it's the worst. It's just ok. Visually underwhelming though. I think so so first episode. Overall just feels like a dime in a dozen. |

It’s been so long since I’ve read the manhwa, so I kind of forgot what is going to happen. All I remember is fragments, so I feel like I am going into this fairly fresh. I loved the reintroduction to this world. Bam was devastated by Rachel’s betrayal and all he wants to know is why she did it. But the answer is the same as it has always been. All the answers are at the top of the tower. Wangnan was also a cool highlight of this episode. (8/10) |

When S1 aired Webtoon fans said artsyle isn't accurate to webtoon and now S1 anime fans are saying it is downgraded when it's accurate with webtoon😂 Well I guess there are always 2 types of groups🤷 Whatever, fk that... I loved everything in S1 back then, and now I'm already in love with S2... Both artstyles and animations are good enough for a peak ride... I'm looking forward for more🔥 |

Knowing what’s to come this season, my only fears are studio dropping the ball hard in what is supposed to be a two cour thing and yeah the obvious, pacing. But yeah, at this point you need to convince yourself and go read the manhwa. Decent return for the adaptation if nothing. |

Pacing is great so far and that's the only thing I really care about. Here's to hoping they don't rush through or completely skip things like in S1 in upcoming episodes. Animation is ok, can't ask for more looking at the studio and funding. All in all, have got higher hopes this time, this one might break 8.0 if they don't drop the ball. |

Pretty much a leveled up sequel this time compared to the last season, that looked like a colored manga, Penkin sure gave a touch to this one. We started with some good intensity already and I never even expected the long haired guy to be Yoru. Cant wait for the rest of the season, its gonna be a blast |

I don't remember much from S1 and didn't bother rewatching it, but let's jump back in. It was a pretty okay start and I'll admit, some of the action sequences in this episode looked really good. Lets see where the story goes from here. Also I got a good chuckle out of the pronunciation of FUG. 💀 |
People on MAL refuse to actually enjoy watching anime. Your taste in anime isn't a personality trait. MAL is literally just anime Twitter as its own website lol. |

@phantomfandom I think it might be the first webtoon. As for korean manhwa in general.... I think Kurokami had multiple seasons if I remember right. Yes, Bam is a member of FUG. |

@breaker_not it's hard to classify Kurokami, those 2 cours air continuously (with just one week break). But in modern standard that would count only as one season. |

I'm pretty sure I read this part after finishing the first season back when it finished airing to see what happens and I still have no idea what's going on. |

TOG didn't become TOG in one day. @MegamiRem This is why I kind of don't like Fire Force as it is legit just that. Demon Slayer is kind of like that too. I'm not trying to hate on them but people really have forgotten long form storytelling in this medium. |

Memory might be a bit hazy, but here's the gist of it: - There was a 6year time skip. - Most of the old gang has reached level20 of the tower. - We're following a different group of people for the first few ep. of season2 - Blonde dude failed the level20 test an uncountable number of times, so he's been stuck here for years. - Level20 is considered a big jump in difficulty, hence the need to construct a city here for all the failed participants. (By the way, there are 3-4 tests per year if I remember right, kinda like exams in college.) |

Hell yes man, Tower of God is back 4 years later, that hurts so much to say lol, life was pretty different when Season 1 was airing, Covid was at its peak and I was doing online college, and a lot has happened between now and then. And I will admit, while I did like the first season quite a bit, I wasn’t super into it in Spring 2020, but I rewatched it recently because I absolutely needed to lol, and going into the rewatch with the added nostalgia and knowledge of Season 2 being right around the corner, I gotta say I was way more hyped and engaged than before, so it’s great to finally be here and see what’s beyond the ending of the first season. And this was a great first episode, it got us introduced to some new characters, they aren’t quite as colorful as the cast we had before but there’s also less at the moment, they’re definitely interesting tho. I like the supposed new “MC” Ja Wangnan, he’s got a cool design and his personality is fun, very different from Bam, and speaking of Bam (that’s obviously him right lol), he’s certainly different now too, folks will probably be more into him now after he suffered and went through training. And the plot is about tests once again, this time to climb even further up the tower, but they were very interesting last time so I’m excited to see how wild they get now. And of course people are giving the art and animation shit, imo the art is perfectly fine, it looks slightly different than before but it’s still very good, and the animation I have no issues with either, the fight scenes in this episode looked great, but of course when this will really matter comes later, I’m not a source reader but I imagine it’s just gonna get more wild as we go. And it’s unfortunate we aren’t getting Korean artists for the OP and ED like before, but NiziU ain’t a bad pick one bit, their songs are gonna have to grow on me a bit more but I like them already, and those ED visuals are kinda lame rn but I’m betting those panels will change the further we go in so it’ll look more lively by the end. |

@breaker_not On the 2-20th Floors, AFAIR: - 2nd Floor tests (ToG S1) are disproportionally hard compared to floors 3-19, ever since Urek appeared (Phantaminum & Enryu didn't bother with the tests as nobody could stop them anyway). - From 3rd Floor onwards, you can retake tests if you fail them (and survive), so you can take your time. ~6 years is about average it takes to climb to 20th Floor. - From 20th Floor tests again become considerably harder. You have to pay "points\credits" (the official currency of the Inner Tower) to retake the test, and many people hit a wall here, unable to proceed unless they get much stronger or have a very strong team. - Once you reach pass the 20th Floor test, you get assigned an "E-rank" (not to be confused with the Rankers' ranks). - The E-rank Regular status has a lot of perks, such as being able to freely venture into the Tower's Middle Area (between the Outer and Inner) at the Floors they passed. They can settle there or work and do business there, which is very lucrative and already puts you above in status over the "normal" non-regular people. Many choose to not risk their life and just stay there, plus-minus a couple of floors. |

I honestly don't know why I even try to watch these shows. Most of the time I just drop it after a few episodes, but there was something that seemed to pull me to finish the first season. This is an issue I see in pretty much anything adapted from manwah/webtoon. Every single character is annoying. I honestly can't see how people actually enjoy watching these things, but everyone's entitled to their opinions and I respect that. I feel like it boils down to cultural differences, and there's always a big chance I'll just drop anything that came out of Korea or China. It's like the isekai trend times 1000. But hey... the adaptation can't be good if the original work never was, right? |
