Welp, they tried to push this episode's game into a dramatic style with high stakes. They also put responsibility in Kei to lead a comeback for his team.

I see a somewhat personal rivalry fought in this episode. I do think this show put a lot of focus on Kei, more than others. Felt like the Kei show in these more recent episodes.

Everything is up to Kei to win the game.

Bottom of the ninth inning, two outs, runners on first and second. The hope for a comeback rests on Kei, but the former ace is flustered by Hironobu's blazing fastballs. He asks him, whose pitches does he usually catch? With just a single comment from Haruka, Kei realizes something and boldly faces off against Hironobu.

Holy fuck that Shunpei running animation was jaw dropping. But yeah, they finally won a game, at last. With Kei getting that game winning out. Poor Kei though. Dude was just trying to enjoy his lunch with his guys and dude was getting clowned on by everyone of his guys lol. Then we end it off with a well overdue sweet conversation between Kei and Haruka.

More than anything the comedy in this show is the best part of the series.

But ofc, seeing as this is MAPPA, they elevate the animation to make the games themselves more intense and fun to watch, so you could say both are great parts of making a great show.

For a finally non-battle anime from MAPPA, this was pretty good. Please go back to doing stuff like this MAPPA. I beg of you.

Shunpei literally leaving the game to Kaname, how will he regain his senses back?

At the 9th inning, Kei isn't used to being a batter, but when Haruka gives him the push, he'll surely do it...again and again, to perfection. And with that, by a landslide, Kotesashi finally won their first game against Makita's school of Hikawa High, with Kaname being the RBI MVP, though Shuto Kirishima is still the ace of the team who hasn't got a chance to flex yet, but through his rather fun personality. A celebratory meal thereafter, and Kaname feels great that he's able to win for his team, though the deep psychology of thinking about his past and how he's just seeking to overcome everybody, it'a almost as if he's a bona-fide monster, is baseball truly "fun" to him with his rather serious PTSD?

Aside from his Mr. Numbskull/Knucklehead comedy gags, Kei is ready to practice some more baseball with the others feeling more motivated than ever, though he gets rather tired easily. As if it's not enough, Haruka wanting Kei to pitch with him, there is a sense that his amnesiac memory may not have served him the best, but at least he still remembers himself as the formidable Battery alongside the former, now knowing that he has fun playing baseball.

Even during their childhood, both Kei and Kaname really stuck together like glue. And the memories of which are slowly returning to him...he's still a nutcase who loves to play baseball.

If there's one lesson to take away from the show, it would be this: "What's important is the present, and what is fun to you."
A surprisingly good show, all things considered.

Poignant stories of self discovery.

Start off well enough, the middle built tension inside the characters, witness through interesting point of views and it end with moving & impressionable ways.

Am I the only one to think that Key tried to k*ll himself? That's the vibe I got from the chapter, really. Like, he was really depressed before. Maybe the "accident" was a suicide attempt.

Aww... that was cute. That whole last part with Kei and Haruka was cute. Their bonding is so special. Haru smiled as well. It was precious. Kei will do his best to be better at this sport once again. He's decided to surpass himself or his commander side. That's some motivation. The childhood scenes were cute as well but Kei's tears. Poor guy. :')

They won their first match as a team and Kei helped in it, so it was very fun for him. He found baseball fun for the first time as a winner. So, he'll practice more going forward. I love each and every one of them in this show. They're such nice friends.

Amazing show throughout, I loved everything about it. Amazing animation, music, and direction as expected from the staff involved in this show at MAPPA. I'll miss this show a lot. Hopefully, a sequel in the future.

I loved how the flashback with Haruka and Kei had a similar style to the sol-anime Kei was watching.

This show was my favourite this season; loved the humor, directing and characters. And of course we were treated to some very smooth animation.

I'm a little sad, I'll miss this show a lot and hope to see a sequel announcement some time soon!

This is the best looking baseball anime ever. But underneath its beautiful surface is also an equally interesting story.

Look like Kei decide to split his personality so that he can continue to love baseball even if it means he can't play anymore since his dumb perosnality would have zero skill. But just like Shunpei, Aoi, and Taro, his fate won't let him abandon baseball.

The public school team wins, shocking.
Smooth but unimpressive ending/anime. Just can't bear the mc and the comedy, thankfully some side guys save the day.

Witnessing Kaname's cute/satisfied and thoughtful/distressed side for once, cementing the ptsd theory. Amnesia my ass.

Flashback with crossing out forms and talking about defeating as of literal murders giving sakujo vibes.

Once again, Kei was the star of the show by providing his team with a crucial hit to win the game. It's too bad were not getting a new baseball anime to get through the regular season of MLB baseball although were at the halfway point already. Hopefully we'll get a second season announcement soon, but in the meantime its back to watching Ace of The Diamond.

He actually hit it and they won, no cliche route. For the first time since losing his memory Kei found baseball fun. The horizons open for him. He'll just have to work hard from here on. We even got a glimpse of the past Kei and why he must have lost his memory. Nice place to stop for the season. This didn't entirely focus on the sport and focused more on the characters but I liked it. Also nee san waifu.

And another homerun episode for this series. Feels like they got the game over and done with a little too fast, but then that cocktail we get served afterwards is totally worth it. The bonding, the teasing, the bickering - perfectly common, trivial things, just them enjoying their youth. It's these moments whose importance is so often not recognised until much later in life, and the grace and care they're presented with here is just. Too good.

Then yet more glimpses into Kei's mindscape, his relationship with baseball, his relationship with Haru, in the past and in the present. It's not even bonding at this point, they're already very well bonded, it's just - their life. And once again, the bodies, the details, the designs, light and shadow... all drawn impeccably. Boosted by, once again, similarly impeccable voice acting. Not a moment in the entire episode that isn't thoroughly enjoyable.

At the risk of stating the obvious: need more, want more, season 2 please, announce it sooner rather than later please but beyond that no rush, take all the time needed.

This was such great show, with a unique touch to it, but amnesia not actually treated as a gimmick but offered a way to explore the character deeper. I loved when we got to learn more about other characters too. Now I need more and hope for season 2!!

I really enjoyed this. I have done sports for many years, and the life you doing for sport is a 360 to “normal” life. So i truly understand Kei. And it’s so hard to come off Elite sport afterwards. So I just enjoy this series, MAPPA doing an excellent job doing the magic mappa do.

I liked all of the main characters, it’s was a good vibe, and even in the short timeframe you got a feel for the character. And that is a good job done ✅

- I’m gladly rewatching it, and fingers crossed for an next session 👍

My surprise when they actually won the game, I was ready for amnesia Kaname to lose the game but he pulled through and Chihaya was not going to let that opening go. I like Makita got extra frustrated precisely because he knows Chihaya so that was satisfying to see, I am glad Chihaya placed his trust in Kaname. It was nice to see them all happy after winning a game, it was so sweet to watch. Kaname looked so innocent watching everyone's joy since it's his first time seeing what a win looks like.

It was nice to learn more about Kaname, particularly how he lost his memory, I think early on I assumed he was in an incident and I then I just forgot about that idea so it being confirmed that he sort of mentally forced himself to forget about baseball was an interesting reveal. It is sad that the stress from being a player killer in a sense is what drove him to want to forget about the sport.

I also felt bad for Kiyomine because he seemed like he felt guilty for the pain that Commander Kaname felt and why he asked amnesia Kaname because maybe he thought it'd strike a chord in him. I do wonder if he'll ask Commander again.

Commander was way too strict with himself though, they were successful but his relationship with Kiyomine felt a bit too business-like rather than friends working together to reach the top. Kiyomine very much trusts Commander so that sense of responsibility especially after being the one to raise him must have burdened Commander a lot so I am glad we got this episode where we saw more depth to their characters. The flashback even shows this with how quickly Kiyomine believes there's an enemy.

I really enjoyed this series, I'm glad I overcame the first two or three episodes because it has been great ever since. I hope this gets a second season and we get to see them partake in more games, develop as a team and see how the Commander and Kaname grow to become one eventually

Go Kei! Watching him get the game winning hit and admitting to having fun felt great. While they didn't directly address his amnesia it seems like it may have been caused by trauma from Kei making eye contact with batters failing and feeling hopeless. Haruka asking Kei if he's having fun showed how much concern he has for him as a good friend and he probably had a hunch as to what was going on with him. Also, Haruka letting Kei know that he catches Haruka's pitches just before he had that hit was an effective move.

Hopefully another season is announced at some point as I enjoyed watching this, especially during baseball season. On a side note I can't help but make comparisons between Haruka and Ohtani as they're both dominant pitchers and homerun hitters :P

I will really miss this show, I enjoyed everything of it: the OP and the ED, the great dubbing of the original cast, the characters, the slice of life side and the sport side (I love baseball, so I might be a little biased), and I think there's still so much we have to know about all these boys and the future of their team. Also, MAPPA did a very good work (even though I preferred the character design of the pilot episode to this one from the official series and Hosoya Yoshimasa was -to me- a better fit for Miyomine-kun)!
I really hope there will be a 2nd season; I think that, even if I started reading the manga, this is one of those series that can be valued and appreciated more if animated. Let's hope so!!!

A step down from the last, but still top-notch compared to most anime. MAPPA did an amazing job adapting this manga into an anime, I was especially surprised when they animated a whole new, visually distinct, and unique scenario for the 2 panels of the anime Kei was watching in the manga. They left off at a great place too, leaving us with Kei's inner machinations and his resolve to face his relationship with baseball.

Here's to a season 2!
I have read 2 perfect chapters of manga; They are Usogui Chapter 203 and Onani Master Kurosawa Chapter 23.
Slam Dunk Chapters 272 to 276 are a perfect stretch of manga.

An incredible finale! I'm going to miss these characters so much.

Using the final moments of the episode to fleshen out Kei's character was the right choice. That final frame with the stylized title screen and the sound of a baseball hitting a glove was just immaculate!! This show was truly the sleeper hit of the season and it has successfully converted me into continuing on to the manga if there's no continuation of the anime before it ends.

Hmm it feels more like a split personality rather than amnesia tbh. It's still not revealed yet how he lost his memories.

So, Kaname was also trying to run away from baseball. Each main cast ran away aside from Kiyomine.

Before I started watching, I thought this was going to be one of those competitive sports anime where they aim for the top, but turns out I was wrong. I wasn't expecting it to be this comedic either, but to my surprise, I also seem to be enjoying it quite a lot despite the theme being very different from what I was expecting. 9/10 I hope we get a season 2 announcement soon.

Solid watch, I found the first few episodes okay but it picked up in the second half with the character backstories. Kaji Yuki-san’s character remained elusive to that though, I’m guessing his shining moment will come later on after all.

Kei’s character gap was hilarious, definitely one of the stand outs of the series. Lately, with MAPPA’s works, there’s a certain level of production level that comes, and it was wonderful to see a display of that during Chihaya’s run towards the end of the games.

7/10. Loved both the theme songs. Man, I really hope to see more of Mrs. Green Apple’s songs in anime.

Not the baseball club talking about Kei as if he is not there lol.

Okay the post credit scene convinced me to keep up with it and go read the manga.

Just rewatched the whole show over the past few days, god I love it so so so much. Revisiting the earlier story with the knowledge of Kei's pre-amnesiac regrets and disdain towards baseball put so many moments into an entirely new perspective. There really is a lot of honest grief buried under the humor and slice of life scenes, even Kei's whole "love and peace" thing originating from something that he used as escapism in the midst of torturous feelings of guilt... The way this show brings things full circle really hits for me man.

Kind of dreading Kei's imminent (?) full-term return to Commander mode, his dumb side really is sweet and pure at its core and this episode highlighted that. His endless happiness just seeing his teammates happy and expressing his real current feelings on baseball in that park scene to Haruka was so nice. Still, with how much I enjoy the bleak, angsty parts of this show I'm looking forward to whatever happens later on in the story. If they decide to make another season that is, which I hope they will, from the bottom of my heart.

Not even a huge fan of sports anime usually (or sports in general, baseball being a rare exception coincidentally), but this struck a chord with me. Like majorly. I almost want to rewatch it a third time sometime soon lol. It's just the introspection and psychological character exploration is portrayed in the exact kind of way that I love, the characters are lovable and their dynamics are super entertaining to watch, the animation is fantastic and the actual baseball playing moments had me on my toes, which is unusual as most of the time I just kind of zone out during those kinds of scenes. On top of all that it had some personally relatable bits and characters. (glances at Chihaya)

Extremely glad I gave this a watch when I did, instant comfort show for me.

Damn, the whole anime I was like can we just get the normal Kei not the silly one. But now, knowing the reasons behind his amnesia and how depressed normal Kei was, it hits me right in the feels :(

Very pleasantly surprised at the deep characters of this show, favorite was definitely Todo and Kei's stories. I felt like Chihaya's one was a bit predictable and generic. And I feel like they should've included some more back story for Haruka too.

Overall enjoyed it, glad I stuck through with it.

I ended up watching this pretty late lol, but I randomly decided to read the manga and it was great so I decided to watch the anime too. Binged it all in 2 days...
MAPPA did a great job with the animation, it's very dynamic and I also like the art/color palette direction, it kinda gave me a nostalgic feeling of the fields.
The humor didn't fully click at first but I did like all the quips from Yama, he played the "straight man" role well in the comedic banters.

It was a solid closing episode with it all coming back to Kei and his memories and his feelings toward baseball... the flashback to Kei and Haruka as kids was sweet. I am kinda worried though, with that ending, that Kei is gonna end up loving baseball and then hating baseball again, repeating the same events as his past... maybe this time his teammates would pull him up or something like he did to them...
