Jesus Christ, Mio trying to wipe Shido's memory is such a low move, even for her at this point. Everything seems to be in despair although it's interesting that Tohka is still here. Tohka return revived a light of hope and confidence again. Tohka put on a fantastic fight this episode imo, probably one of her best in awhile. Mio vs Tohka is a major point of his arc. Can't also forget Kurumi who made a surprise reappearance. Shido and Tohka's chemistry remained strong this episode and truly had its feelings. I do think they made Mio a bit OP this season though. |

Tohka put up a good fight even after she had been defeat already... In an indeterminate space, Tohka finds herself floating and encounters a young woman—Dark Tohka. They converse, and Dark Tohka reveals the origin of the spirits, helping Tohka uncover her true identity. After some lighthearted banter, Dark Tohka hugs Tohka and pushes her forward, leaving only Tohka, Shidou, and Mio. Mio explains more about Tohka, revealing that when she divided her power into ten Sephira crystals, one of them developed its own ego. She asks Shidou if he ever noticed something unique about Tohka that the other Spirits lacked. It's then that Shidou realizes Tohka was the only one without a name, as if she never had one. Tohka interjects, saying it's fine since Shidou was the one who named her. A battle erupts between Mio and Tohka. Now, Tohka can borrow power from other spirits and Mio herself. Her Sandalphon sword gains a significant power-up, surpassing its final form. Her Astral Dress also changes, resembling Yoshinon's ability to wear Zadkiel as armor. Finally, Tohka lands a decisive blow on Mio. Tohka then hears Mio utter "Ain," summoning her trump card. The world is bathed in light, and when it dissipates, Tohka's silhouette vanishes from sight. Back to the past; now it's time to rewrite everything that has happened up to this point, and of course, it's time for a date. |

I was so happy that kurumi made a reappearance after I thought she had died, only to find out that it was a clone.. not that I’m mad she was a clone or anything, but her dying again traumatized me ✋🏻😭 |

It's basically the best episode in the entire series. Everything before it was building to this and everything after is solving the problems that this episode placed on Shido. Plenty of twists and it was a really good one, the most emotional episode up to this point. |

That time travel back in time. OMG !!! There's a few things bugging me though. Spirits fight against your own creator, it can only end in losing. So why can't Reine just take down each spirit more easily. My point is that how come spirit can still put up a fight even if their power come from their mother. There are also many stalling for time, when Reine could have taken Shido anytime sooner by force. Lastly, if Kurumi has such power of travelling time, couldn't Reine do it too ? Even if I question those all above, I still enjoy it. I just want some answers. |

animation: excellent, it was really good, the fights were beautiful, and there was a lot of blood! emotion: we got a lot, the episode was really touching story: it follows LN super well! definitely the most faithful season Conclusion: best episode in 10 years for me, the tohka vs mio fight is incredible, we also have the return of kurumi, with his equally great lines, to finish on the best: shido using Vav! Very touching, how he collapses in tohka's arms at the end. |

I actually praise them for dedicating an entire episode to the events that transpired here. A lot of old OSTs have been used from beginning to end, and there's the new Tohka Ratelibish theme that just dropped. Have good luck guessing what are the actual ages of the spirits with wiped memories. It's almost impossible for Shido to hate Mio, so he needed lots of emotional drive. Rational emotional drive, not just trauma and despair. I remember once Tachibana remarking DAL to be a story of Mio - but things never really goes as she wishes for, which is amusing. Especially because she's "Deus". This was my favorite moment of Kurumi in the series, as she actually ditched "I'll do it on my own" for "I'll make a proper sacrifice to help beat an enemy that's leagues above me". Also yeah, my favorite b/w novel illustration. Onto the next volume! ![]() |

@ZeroViolet That's the thing, no spirit really posed a threat to her, did they? But she also declared at the beginning that they had every right to oppose her and she'll let them. She sees them like her daughters and kinda wanted to see them off for one last time, otherwise she would have just deployed "Ain" at the very beginning (not exactly, but you get what I mean). Remember her taking her time to close dead Kurumi's eyes? That's respect to someone who has suffered and fought hard. And there's Tohka, and she's a whole another deal because she's the only one like Mio in that world. As of now, she was her biggest direct threat, but that's hugely a "relative" term. Yes, she can use time related powers. And also parallely, she really doesn't see this as a threat to her plan. |

"Yes, it's me." Such a simple and sweet response to having someone repeatedly say your name in tears. Tohka's been my favorite since S1 and that moment really made me smile Kudos to Kurumi for always thinking one step ahead tho |

This episode was really incredible. Perhaps it is the best episode of Date a Live in anime. Tohka finally shined in the anime after being regrettably overshadowed in her moments of shining. Kurumi was also very important, despite appearing briefly. Tohka is Shidou's greatest savior, always supporting him as much as possible. I was glad to see that so clearly shown. And she was really badass, she faced off against a goddess and made her bleed. Tohka is the best girl!!!!!! I was afraid that the anime wouldn't be able to demonstrate Shidou's despair properly, especially based on S4. But S5 improved, and I think his desperation was visible in his expressions. Btw, it's obvious he loves Tohka by the way he acts. |

brilliant episode wowzers. We were robbed of a good Westcott Shido fight last week, but they made up for it with an amazing Tohka v Mio and then Mio v Shido. World building and plot twists were great and actually very consistent. I love how everything from even the very first episode of Date a Live is shown to be relevant! The big reveal about Tohka being a pure spirit like Mio was a bombshell, but then when you think about it you’re like “damn that actually makes total sense!” All the other girls did have names besides her and after we saw Mio’s flashback to meeting Shin, you couldn’t help but see the similarities. Tohka is basically this version of Shido’s Mio. Meets spirit, names her, takes her in, she becomes close to sister etc etc. It makes their fight that much more poetic. Basically Shido’s past and present squaring off. Ultimately even with her badass ultimate form, Tohka still wasn’t enough to take down Mio 😢 how do you beat someone that can reduce you to nothingness Speaking of past and present… KURUMI MASTERCLASS. Even after death she continues to come in clutch and help! Sending her clone which reminded Shido of how he never used Kurumi’s spirit abilities, again another twist that’s logically and plot consistent. I love it. The animation of Shido going back in time was so damn well done. Clearly fighting Mio head on isn’t gonna work so the best bet is to attack her heart via a date! I love it man. The author laid so many seeds that are finally about to spurt and it’s cool to see. No asspulls, just great writing. Refreshing. Reine and Shido date next week will move me I already know. |

I mean they kind of made Mio so powerful that nothing but going back in time and setting things straight was the one and only feasible option in the end, which would work in everybody's interest. Kurumi thinking this all through and sending one of her clones an hour in future may seem very convenient given the situation, but that's just her character lol. The truth about Tohka was always there to begin with, it's just that reading into it while being engaged into all the frivolous stuff this show has made us sit through since the first season, without much context was a tough thing lol. But still to the author. Back to the classic stuff next time, first for this season though. |

ohka finally able to do some damage to Mio, but sadly not enough. A Kurumi clone showing up to buy just a little more time for Shidou to realize a solution. well, it's only a temporary solution. Time was rewinded. Now Shidou has to figure out how to defeat Mio. |

Directing was amazing. First scene with tohka and inverse tohka sound mixing was just phenomenal. It unveiled mystery and showed us hope. It also was a heart warming scene of tohka and her identity. Kurumi comeback was so good and shido finally using zaphkiel after 11 years is an amazing scene. I love how sweet arms theme played at the end. Dal already polled the best anime this season. On multiple sites. And it honestly deserves to win. I don't even aot can top an episode this well directed, emotional, well done. Brought me in tears. Tachibana can make convoluted lore into an incredible emotional scene. |

Dead a live ep 8 Its ep 8. and everybody except shido is gone Its just shido and mio now i was thinking. even if shido goes back to the past, how is he gonna stop mio? like. he would need to go back all the way and stop shinji being killed in the first place, and even then. its kinda awkward and honestly the whole time travel thing is just absurdity because i was thinking, what is the extent of mios powers? she just activated her god mode out of nowhere so i was thinking that yeah shido would have to go all the way back, but can he even? also something something kurumi the strange thing is im not sure if its just intentional or coincidence but the mio we see in the flashback in s4 seems very different to the current mio too like shido too uhm. its kinda funny because shido was in danger(?) back in s1 anyway back to the episode like im still not even entirely sure how or why but tohka. etc its not like i dislike tohka, its just like, the favoritism is kinda eh its kinda funny because tohka. i mean all the girls have their own funneh personality, but tohka too its really weird but im not entirely sure why mio had to kill off the girls. shenanigans i guess so yeah. kotori was the first one where her backstory was revealed. then we had miku. origami was the first time we directly saw someone go from human to spirit. then we had nia and mukuro with their backstory. and then kurumi's backstory otherwise tohka and yoshino aside in s1, basically the whole thing is that tohka is a weird case but yeah, the girls all used to be human remember back in s3 that natsumi had previous memories. but aside from that yoshino never mentioned it and i dunno about kaguya and yuzuru the real question is why or how. i dunno. it feels like the author either had some weird decision change or idk if it'll be properly explained aaanyway so yeah blah de blah so its shido and tohka vs mio. but mio seems totally god mode so im not sure. literally they're just buying time for shido to think of something. whatever that is it still doesnt quite explain why tohka has two personalities though i mean i dunno tohka already lost once so its kinda strange anyway. so tohka seems to be doing a lot better this time but mio still seems to have the advantage also something shido uhh did tohka ever show this before oof course as i say that tohka be like agogo like literally mio didnt even have to wave her hand and tohka just completely disappears meanwhile we went from ptsd shido and now tohka is gone? and more ptsd shido its kinda sad honestly but uhh i dunno what plot twist is next? so yeah, shido using all the powers but mio though of the whole thing is that shido doesnt have zafkiel to use orr does he back during the origami arc shido actually had to time travel twice in order to fix the problem ok so big plot twist, kurumi is somehow here. i dont know how but she survived. somehow theres a good question though. if kurumi can go back in time...can she go forward in time? uhh like i said time travel is a total headache a clock usually has 12, so i assume kurumi has like 12 different abilities as well. we never really saw all of them, like, in vol 4 the light novel (but not the anime as it was cut out) kurumi talks about some of them, and in vol 3 where kurumi first showed up she used like maybe 4-6 different ones. like kurumi is an entire topic by herself its kinda weird since we usually dont see the clone kurumis using the actual angel powers. or do they? they're not really on screen most of the time, since they're just there as a army for kurumi i dunno aaand shido is alone again. like how many times are they gonna pull this in one episode its kind of funny how kurumi was sent forward in time by an hour, which is uh. kurumi was at the start of ep 5 i think? so ep 567, which is about an hour like you see the whole thing is that kurumi is able to change the past just by sending INFORMATION back to the past, by using the one that was sealed by shido which means if shido can use it he can change the past even without using the other one and now the part is figuring out how to deal with mio honestly i was thinking imagine if they cliffhang us here also in theory shido would be able to chain the power endlessly to an extent time travel is insane 4 eps left thats the question now, how does shido outwit and solve the problem at the same time because the strange thing is there's two mio, reine and "mio" also as a side effect, because we went back in time its strange but another side effect is that we still have to deal with dem AGAIN ok so we end on a cliffhang with reine. not sure. uhm. is he gonna try and resolve the whole thing by talking with reine/mio? uhh Soo uhm.............its kinda weird because essentially we time travelled back to ep 2 I believe. If you count ep 4 as a completely separate ova, that means ep 3567 and 8, so we time travelled back 5 eps, 5 out of 8 or 5 out of 12, depending on how you count I dunno what to say but the remaining eps is gonna be a thing I guess. Also the whole mio and to an extent tohka and the other girls. Kurumi too. |

@CocoaGalaxy Just to make one thing sure, time travel is very limited and reiryoku draining. Kurumi had to plan devouring Shido to be able to go back to the past where she can stop spirits being born. Also since your format of writing is tough to get through, another thing I excavated is... No Natsumi didn't remember her past in S3. She just has an active mind which makes up possible past scenarios. Her past will be explored at a later time, and it's lowkey depressing, to say the least. Also, why two Tohkas is a big plot point, and one can make a lot of theories after the Inverse's first appearance in S2. |

holy fuck this episode went hard in the paint shido using zafkiel was unexpected as I am an anime only, and oh Lord I was expecting this show to go the "platinum end" route, where everyone DIES - the end. but GIGA CHAD SHIDO comes in with the strap. My original thought was he was going to kill himself and then Mio would have to revert to the past somehow or basically have no reason to continue living, would've been darker, but I prefer what's going on. 5/5 |

Time travel has always been tricky to pull off in storytelling because every story has its own rules regarding this particular concept. Luckily, Date A Live can pull this off by leaving enough clues for viewers to pick up in previous episodes. To some, Shido's last chance might come off as contrived, but what I personally loved about this plot twist is its emotional payoff. The only thing that matters to Shido is getting that happy ending for the people he loves. This show is awesome. |
