The show is back and already, Naofumi is on a journey to help the helpless with his party. Speaking of which, not much has changed about his party members as they deal with merchants. Raphtalia is still how I remember her this season so far.

I think what's also interesting is that Naofumi took a cautious approach with his mission. Their society still looks kinda vulnerable wtih slaves but also makes a lot of possibilities. Definitely curious to see the direction for rest of the episodes.

After the absolute absolute disaster the second season was, in practically every aspect, it goes without saying the hopes are as little as they could be for this third season. And that’s kinda disappointing, because the first season back then was actually some ride. Though leaving had and ifs aside, they didn’t waste any time and jumped straight into the plot.

Naofumi and co., who now have already dealt with that glasses maniac and returned from that other world, the news of the other three heroes suddenly disappearing from the face of earth must be some news to Naofumi lol. Neither they could deal with the waves nor could save normal folks from it, so kind of goes without saying shame and embarrassment played the main hand behind their disappearance lol.

I don’t know but the feeling I get from watching this episode is I must’ve missed something in between before jumping to this third season, which ain’t true in reality, but then again, this is the way they adapt things… rushing through them. Anyways, in an attempt to build himself an army of demi-humans slaves and in turn save them, the gang literally went to the good ol’ battlegrounds where people gamble over who could win. Good for them, they easily beat the first joke pair.

Anyways, if anything, the visuals and animation is looking better than the last time around, but that wasn’t any bar either lol. Opening sounds kinda same but is fire, with those visuals.

Novelist Aneko Yusaki's Tate no Yuusha is back for Season 3, it's Heroes Re-Rising Rebuilding Arc starting from Volume 10 of the LN!

MADKID is back for yet another OP, and it just feels decent, almost like a drop off from their high of Season 1 which the quality has been degrading overtime.

The Spirit Tortoise is defeated, and it'll be 3.5 months before the next Wave of the Calamity Beast of the Phoenix will arise, and Ryo pushed them back in time enough for preparations but putting a curse on him, it's give and take. Melromarc is not spared from the calamity awaiting them, in the search for the Vassal Heroes: the Seven Star Heroes, which the Staff Hero is located somewhere in the kingdom. The Spirit Tortoise's body kept in Melromarc, and Naofumi earns a lil' present from Ost before her demise.

It's been while that Naofumi had come back to Melromarc, but sadly it's stuck the same way as before, still not acknowledging Naofumi and his party. Back to the Slave Mercenary's place, and all of the demi-humans from Lurolona Village have been bought out from nobles, so Naofumi and gang heads to the kingdom of merchants and mercenaries, Zeltoble, to meet the slave merchant there to see the slave underworld auction, which Naofumi's saving of them, only turned out to be a farce because of the Shield Hero band of business that has grown without his know-how. That then, brings him to the dark coliseum where money is everything, and that's how he got the idea of putting everyone on disguise and entering the arena to win big and play strategically, brandishing as Rockvalley to win back all the Lurolona Village slaves.

The ambush and conspiracy has begun for Naofumi and gang, and hoping that Season 3 will live up to the hype after Season 2's disappointment.

Once again, it falls on Naofumi to handle the impending disaster threatening the lands. It's no surprise those three troublemakers aren't in sight. But seriously, Trash is the Staff Hero? They must have been really desperate if they considered him one of the Heroes.

Those slaver guys give me the chills. Naofumi's dealing with some truly unsavory characters. I suppose it's the price he has to pay if he wants to rescue these slaves.

Off to the coliseum it is, time to kick some behinds and free those slaves. That OP is a banger btw

Time for season 3! This was the most anticipated anime this season on MAL. Let's hope this will be better than season 2. The trailers looked good so I have hope.

Damn, this looks really good so far.
The OP maintains the style the previous ones set. I still think the very first one is the best one.
Oh, I forgot that Naofumi has his own land now lol.
It's so damn awkward to hear that demi-human girl talk so happily about serving as a slave.
20:02 Oh, I remember that he has some kind of poison resistance so alcohol doesn't work on him in this world.

Nice buildup episode that made me remember a ton of stuff. Excited for more!

Naofumi and gang are back from the Spirit Tortoise arc, having dealt with the calamity in their own way. Even worse, the Wave is not fully extinguished yet, and the entire Melromarc region can still be in danger anytime. What was retrieved from the Spirit Tortoise, its elements have still yet to be deciphered of the use in the Shield. Their return to Melromarc, for a rightful nation, is still in shatters. Naturally, Naofumi heads to the same slave trader were he first purchased Raphtalia, and got some valuable information on hand.

That leads to the slave traders' quarters where the auction of slaves is being held, and everything was still the way that it was left before, in the Queen's motion to free the demi-humans that Naofumi still has a long way to go in his endeavour, starting with the Luluna Village demi-humans. The underground coliseum where demi-humans and regular humans bout it out, and Naofumi decides to disguise himself as a competitor to save the village slaves.

The ambush and conspiracy has begun for Naofumi and gang, and hoping that Season 3 will live up to the hype after Season 2's disappointment.

I thought season 2 ended pretty well tbh

An amazing first episode, visually I think Season 3 destroys Season 1 and Season 2 in every aspect. The events are shuffled around a bit, people will assume it's cut content, but I can assure everyone that its just moved to a later episode.

Great episode today, this episode is a redemption for what S2 was. Amazing

Decent episode.

Seems like business as usual with Naofumi and co doing stuff like fighting in an underground arena to make money and the like.

I'm just hoping this season isn't nearly as dreadful and bad as season two.

The quality and directing difference between this and last season is night and day, should be worth watching again...
There's gonna be a ton of plotholes due to how much they skipped in s2 (and feel this season skipped ahead a bit too)
Like say they're already starting with MC mentioning the blood sacrifice aura curse but last season didn't even mention the thing altogether!

Just finished the first episode and feeling very hopeful for this season. Seems like Naofumi and co will be fighting in an underground arena and earning money to buy all the slaves from Lurolona. Animation looking even better than last season and ost still amazing.

@mkzxwing they're not skipping anything, remember that V10 was already partly adapted at the end of Season 1 with naofumi being given the village. There is supposed to be another event that should've happen in this episode. But it's confirmed that they're moving it to a later one (episode 3 most likely)

you can see the event happen in the trailer. but yeah this season will be rlly good hopefully

for having 0 expectation of S3 after that garbage side quest of a S2 story NEVER MAKE ONE OF THOSE EVER AGAIN IN THIS SHOW PLEASE .... this season starts pretty good and exiting ngl this is how we get new stuff no need for Naofumi and the gang to throw away all of there progress for a stupid side quest to get a legendary sword and a spec change essentially for Raptalia. That could have been resolved in no more than 2 episodes but what ever were past it now. I'm hyped going forward for this season i just hope last season didn't ruin the anime for too many people Over Lord had a similar garbage season with the Village ark thou there it wasn't really bad writing like in S2 of Shield here, but in Overlord it was the budged, BAD CG and terrible animation. Still it managed to recover in its season after it so The Shield hero should be able to do the same we'll

That was a decent start to the season. Some exploration, new area and arena fight. They gotta make money and buy back the slaves. New girl is hot btw. Also who would have thought that trash, the previous king was the staff hero.

Last season was okay, I'm really hoping this'll be better. Btw OP song had some good visuals/animation.

Well, this is probably the best that Shield Hero has looked in the visual department, and it'll almost certainly be better than Season 2, with the low bar that brought. The damage has been done and it's gonna take a lot to enjoy this again. Nice to see the characters back I suppose, but not expecting all that much from this series. Man, I forgot how much emphasis there is on slavery in this series...

Defeating Kyo sure ended up creating quite the side effect for them. Given how long rooted that prejudice is in this nation it would take time for hatred towards the shield hero and demi humans to lessen. The nobles though are scumbags though by electing to sell their slaves outside of the country where its legal. Loved how they showed what the team were up to as they travelled to Zeltoble. Slave selling must be a family business for the trader. It sure is distasteful seeing his village be used as a means to enhance a slave's value. As disguises go pretty thin but i guess no one in the arena suspects. Overall a pretty good opening ep that while doing well in recapping what happened also had a good balance of action and lore expansion. Using the arena to win back the slaves really is apt for the shield hero though.

Alright, we're back. It is Wednesday Friday, my dudes.

Despite the Queen pushing tolerance of demihumans, the people's attitudes don't change overnight. It also apparently hasn't hurt the slave trade one bit.
One of my questions about the money got answered. It's 100 silvers to a gold.
Buying a slave during this shortage costs 30 gold pieces. That's 100x the price of a sickly child Raphtalia, and 1.5x the price of a non-virgin adult Raphtalia. Is she still worth 35 at this point?

Good to see some of the old characters back: Melty, Queen Mirelia, the Blacksmith. Now all we need is Kung Fu Grandma. Naofumi now has the goal of raising enough money to buy all the slaves. (Isekai Harem Labyrinth, anyone?) Some good hooks for the future with Trash King being the Staff Hero and the disappearance of Bitch and the Three Cardinal Stooges. It's a strong start, but Season 2 also had a strong start.

It's season 2 all over again with the rushing the story and cutting half the scenes out! It's a terrible adaptation again...

Naofumi wants to build a "Raphtalia army" to fight the waves because the 3 heroes are useless.
The plan is to buy back the kids who were taken as slaves from Raphtalia's village, make them Naofumi's slaves and raise their levels up. This will make them super strong just like it did with Raphtalia in season 1.

The problem is that because the Shield hero got famous and is the owner of Raphtalia's village now, everyone wants to buy slaves who are from Lurolona village. The slave traders are lying where they got the slaves from to get a higher price.
This makes it impossible to track down and buy back the villagers from Lurolona village.

@Yaggamy - Thanks for the rundown, it makes sense and it's obviously unfortunate. All of the effort spent on the artwork will likely be undermined by insufficient story, again. Kinda sad to see.

@hypexleaks First of all, ANY adaptation skips stuff, just the question of how important it was and how consistently they change the writing around it. They cut a bunch for s1, but it was mostly okay, but s2 was basically cutdown galore, where like half the important and interesting events where completely removed, but the stuff they chose to focus on and the way they decided to write around it made no sense, so as i said, that's gonna cause a lot of plotholes, just like the one i mentioned at the very start of this season with the curse and sacrifice aura they didn't even bring up at all and now he's retroactively telling something about the consequences of an event that didn't even happen.
As per this season, so far they definitely cut down stuff. About the staff hero and his weapon's methods of strengthening and what became of him, who was also yelling btw, which in the novel he couldn't do because he'd get choked, the mention about the time flow difference, the book about the nature of the waves they need to decrypt, changed the attitude of Raphtalia toward the shrine dress, as you mentioned, all the stuff to do with the settlement (and there's a LOT)...

The directorial and staff changes are already very apparent. Much better adaptation. Better pacing and higher quality production values all around. I’m cautiously optimistic about this season.

This was the part of the story that really made me fall in love with this series so I hope it gets the love and attention it deserves. They’re only doing a few books so it should be good.

Idk what you'd need to do to enjoy it... It wasn't slow, it was BLINDINGLY fast, it also made absolutely no sense, riddled with plotholes and horrid directing, abysmal budget and a lot of nonsensical decisions. Oh and it cut 90+% of the source material, made a bunch of stuff up, and focused more on the worst characters in the series (Licia, Ost, who was not as bad in the novel but still on the weak side, here they made her horrid)

I can't believe it doesn't look bad anymore. The only missing thing for a perfect redemption story would have been getting rid of Madkid for the OP, but at least they managed to get Yamashita Shingo to direct it (his style should be immediately recognizable if you're familiar with Jujutsu Kaisen S1 and Chainsaw Man openings). I tried replaying it with Ousama Ranking's second OP in the background (also directed by Yamashita) and it fits a lot better.
