That scene of dancing at night in the open nature looked like something out of a fantasy world. I wish they continued that scene longer.

I'm also impressed by Miyako's talent and her passions of dancing. I think she and Junpei can make a lot of memories in this anime. Another person to keep an eye might be Ruou. Interesting development episode overall.

The character expressions feel strangely good. So beautiful close-ups.

I cant blame Junpei for being sad.

If is to say something that was a missed opportunity, would be not making the ending of this episode Junpei dancing at the sound of Rosie from The Roosters.

Oh yeah, my reaction to Schwanensee was similar 🥱 minus getting pumped.

And lol, lifting weights won't stunt your growth, especially not in moderation. It's rather the opposite. Junpei should give up on soccer, start hitting the gym and hop on some hgh asap.

Really good episode again, this is in my top 3 of the season so far.

It breaks my heart when I know that there's undergarment under male tight. I always thought.... well, nevermind.

Anyway, good episode. They're all junior high, a phase that is similar to monkey the most. I kinda like how Junpei is naturally going out with his friends, and he really has chemistry with his close friend, he's really what I call a popular guy at school, and of course Junpei is afriad to lose the star status. He's afraid of any serious commitment in activity/hobby, but to be fair, I don't think serious commitment is suitable at that age, they should just play and play all day and night. But it's too bad that, to be a professional at something mean starting earlier than normal people.

I think I can guess the plot of the next episode based on the preview alone, it's gonna be good. I can't help but notice that any media that depict Swan Lake as one of the element deploys "play within a play" trope. Junpei want to be a prince both in a ballet scene and in real life.

You know, it's always a good thing to make sure everyone is on the same page as to why you invite them to something...

The 'old lady' is a keen observer, and seems to have a grasp of what motivates different individuals. It's not a chance thing, who she is casting in what role.

While one can see similarities to Ballroom, there are significant differences between Junpei and Tatara.

Tatara starts at basically rock bottom in regard to how others look at him, so the 'negative' perceptions of dance as something done by males pretty much rolls off his back.

Junpei, on the other hand... is somebody, so how others react is a concern to him, rightly or wrongly.
The timing of his dad's death doesn't help.
So he's got the 'public perception' thing, and the 'expectation of following in his father's footsteps' bit from his uncle.
His mom and sis do seem to feel differently about it, that he should choose his own path and follow his heart; he isn't his father, he isn't a replacement for his father, he's his own person, seems to be how they look at it and wish he would as well.

Rupu.
We haven't seen enough yet to make any pronouncements, accurate or not.

Miyako.
She's concerned for her cousin, yes.
But she does view Junpei as more than just a means of getting her cousin out of his room, she sees his talent in its own right, but how she thinks of him in her heart of hearts is something she hasn't taken a good solid look at as of yet.
Why does she want him around?
She needs to figure that out, as well as just what her feelings are concerning Ruou.
Gah.
Sounds like I'm laying it all at her feet... well, she did initiate contact with ulterior motives involved, so she does bear some responsibility for the current mess.

Let's just say that as it's clear this isn't Ballroom, it may travel down different paths with interpersonal relations.

There is a major similarity between Tatara and Junpei; they want to shine.
Junpei is bored stiff when viewing the more pedestrian aspects of ballet.
The stuff that grabs his heart and shakes it is the domination of the scene.
I'm not sure he'd articulate it the way Tatara did when watching the competition video, but it's that 'look at me' thing.

Very good second episode.
Many many mixed signals coming and going.
Poor guy really need to make a choice, and not pick a thing because he likes a girl.
I have high hopes for this, so far it easily one of my favourite shows.

Last season every single fan of Sono Bisque was salivating and fangirling about Cloverworks' impressive animation. This season, nothing but a minuscule fraction is recognizing the stunning animation along with the coreographies on an activity that requires a lot more discipline. T&A sure sells well, specially when there's so much work in jigglying animation, shame it doesn't work that well on truly artistic performances.

Back to the episode, the whole paralels of the swan lake characters to Junpei, Miyako & Lou is so on point. I never expected this show to be your happy go lucky rosey love story and it looks like it has started on the right foot. Gotta love all the hurdles thrown at Junpei in these couple of days, from Lou's former introduction and his obvious higher talent, to Junpei realizing that Miyako had an ulterior motive, to his other social activities just giving him mixed signals of what path should he choose.

Really enjoying the anime and just wanted to post here to show my support. Surprised how quiet the forum section here is. So far my favorite anime of the season, I could just keep watching for hours.

Had a little anxiety attack during the scene at the train crossing. I wasn't sure whether Miyako was standing inside or outside of the rails, so when the scene just kept going and going and still no train, my mind went "omg, they're gonna kill the cute girl in the second episode, it's gonna be THAT kind of anime ...!". I'm glad that didn't turn out to be the case ^^
If you haven't watched "Fantastic Children", don't talk about "best anime". Thank you.

The dance under the moon had some amazing choreography. I am curious to see how Junpei will resolve the hurdles being thrown at him, hurdles that are partially even his own fault.

What a nice episode. Liked it much more than the first one. Watched some sequences twice. Loved the first 8 minutes or so of it, especially the humming + OST integration. Looks great. Probably the anime I'm looking forward to the most this season.

I was more mixed on this episode than the first one.

Junpei was very annoying the entire time not being able to touch a girl that he likes and constantly staring at Luou. The dancing looks good and some shots look pretty, but the art and animation for most of the show is underwhelming. Wasn’t expecting Miyako to be attracted to her cousin, but not surprised.

They had Odile dancing, and we didn't get to see her do that impressive spin! That is just a missed opportunity! lol

Luou is a lot more interesting than any character so far. He clearly loves ballet but wants to quite it. He's also a very beautiful dancer. Also, when Junpei screamed, Luou covered himself as if shielding himself. I guess he must have experience with people abusing him. Maybe bullies? His old dance instructor? Or maybe his parents? Based on the previews, might be bullies?

Junpei wore a dance belt outside his tights. haha

Miyako is boring. She is just a love interest and a plot tool with no development. She adds nothing to the story. Rather, she decreases the impact of what could have been really impactful scenes.
Like: I think it would have been better if Junpei did not do ballet for her, but for himself. He clearly loves it, so I think it's okay for him to pursue it for himself. Even selfishly at times.
Also, the scene at the beginning where they go see a ballet performance: it would have been better if Junpei went on his own, and watched with excitement as other people enjoyed what he loves so much.

Next episode has a nice title. 男らしいって、なんだ?"What is 'manly'?" I am interested to see what they'll do with it.

Junpei and Miyako's date to watch the Swan Lake play...but the former slept the way through to induce anger on him, not a surprise. It's only when the lead actors come in with exquisite moves to shake him in his core and try to imitate their movements, and Miyako follows suit.

Junpei didn't felt it, but ballet was the only talent that recruited him instead, and in the midst, found Luou Mori dancing in secrecy, he's Rothbart the Demon as compared to Miyako's Odile. And comparing both guys, it's obvious that Miyako is the assuming love interest to fight for being a worthy ballet partner in the guise to get Junpei to do ballet.

And the unmistakble happens: Luou coming to school, what implications will this have for Junpei?

Wow... a really solid 2nd episode. That was very good. Junpei still isn't confident in himself and there are times when the things he does are kinda funny and cringy but it's fine. Miyako likes Luou and not Junpei. That's sad for him. The animation and OST were great, once again. Enjoyed more than the previous episode. Also, the Rosie song was so fricking good and the ED is really good as well.

I think Junpei is being obnoxious, but I guess he's acting childish because he's thirteen and more sensitive to emotions.

Although, I believe Luou was bullied before due to his reaction toward Junpei when he jumped towards him. I hope Junpei isn’t a terrible person to him, now that’s he’s back in school.

Really liked the episode. As 31 years I understand that not everything it’s fun, and hard part are hard. So I do understand Jumpei wants to be social and do other stuff. I hope loulu will show his class the art of dance, and maybe it will be less stigma around it. Maybe other will join the ballet’s club.

Intriguing episode. Luou seems cute, loved him in his glasses at school. We've already been introduced to our love triangle, but Luou's her cousin so.... wonder if we will see this turn more into a close friendship between the three or if they will double down on the romance.

I also really love the name Junpei, but for some reason his name has been translated as Jumpei in this episode on Crunchyroll 😂

The ED was really interesting, the animation and art direction is really dope. loved watching this as I finished the episode

The last scene that teases our next episode titled "What Does it Mean to be Manly?" has Junpei crying a boatload of tears with a grumpy face. I'm dying to see what sort of decision he makes.
Honestly, he just needs to tell the dance instructor that since his dad died, he's been really struggling with this and isn't sure if dancing is the path he should be taking. This can be cleared up, hope we actually get to see his mom introduced as a character lol I thrive on loving anime parents 😭 hope we get to see her supporting her son on this.

Dance Dance Danseur really connected with me as much as Ballroom e Youkoso. I feel like I'll cry every episode from happiness.

I am so f-ing frustrated with this show.
The OP, the characters, the main concept/idea of the show, the visuals and animation, the ED... Everything is réally good.

But it is ALL ruined by the fast pacing.
I literally checked multiple times to see if I wasn't speeding up the video by accident. Sadly I wasn't. I wísh there was a button to slow it all down. They're throwing the story and arcs out like it's Formula 1 over there. I didn't know this much could happen in one single episode.
Again... It literally ruins the whole show for me. Might drop if they keep doing this in ep 3 and 4. I have a small hope they speed up to build up the story and tone it down after a bit.

Nope, they are kids in junior high, when I was in junior high, many boys in my school also act like him.
So instead of thinking, "He is annoying"
I will say, "Lol, just what you expect from junior high school boy"
So even if for example I think he is annoying, it doesn't matter for me since the author portray it really well. I prefer good portrayal than my own comfortability.

I am loving these these anime so far but one thing is bugging me that these episode was weird. Some scenes looked like they cutted some dialogues. Pacing was really fast. Some scenes didn't make sense. If you watch it carefully you will notice. Like when Luon tell junpei that he is better prince jumpei gets angry that scene is weirdly edited if you know what I mean. Anyway animation was solid. I like how they added little variation in expressions of chracters. Cgi is mostly unnoticable. Storyboards can be better for some scenes and some scenes needs more attention but can't complain about it since we got better animation for other scenes. 8/10

Watched this only because of Hajime Ootani and he absolutely delivered. The ballet scenes were beautifully directed especially, the stage performance. There are also a lot of strong directing throughout the episode like the train crossing, the park scene and the meeting at the night with her mother, also seems to be someone related to Shaft. Unfortunately, not every section of the production is strong enough and CG models don't help either but Mari Fujino is carrying this on her back. Thankfully, Luou wasn't introduced in an obnoxious manner which was one of my biggest concern. It's a full on improvement over the first episode. Next episode looks like it's going to be a hard drama in school. Character writing is so far the strongest thing about this, hopefully, this doesn't disappoint.

Despite my initial impression of the art style being a little erk, I feel like the animation of sequences, additional effects, and overall story progression are pretty engrossing. Looks like this might be another seasonal gem, except a higher tier one, unlike Koming.

I'm going to be honest, I wanted someone other that Uchiyama Kouki to voice Ruou. I expected someone colder, sinister and thinner, maybe even softer. Ugh, I like Kouki and his roles, but I don't think he fits Ruou at all and that could have made a huge difference.
Anyway, adding romance isn't a bad move, it'll make things more interesting. It sucks that this is a short cour because things seem to move a little fast. Good episode though, keep doing what you're doing MAPPA!

This girl is in love with her cousin? Um, doesn't this take place during the modern era? You know? Where incest is frowned upon? No?

Some of the scenes were so awkward and cringe-worthy, but I do like this episode overall. It seems as if Jumpei's friend also has an interest in band. Luckily, Jumpei is accepting of that interest. I don't know about his other friends. Especially since we see some bad traits of them. Like the girls in his group calling Miyako a loser.
