Ooh, I think Arte made a friend this episode. Veronica is a special individual though judging by her reputation and looks. And plus, I think having someone as admirable as her may be a good thing.

Veronica represents the beauty of this show if you ask me. I hope those two remain good friends.

Can’t believe it’s another Saturday, holy shit time is flying during quarantine. Time for another episode of one of my faves.

It’s nice to see Arte gradually being accepted by the artisan community as one of them. She’s easily able to go out and buy things now without being harassed

Arte’s falling more and more for Leo, aww . Wonder how this is gonna play out

Flustered Arte is [adorable](https://imgur.com/a/HAUiyzQ)

Veronica could be the girlfriend Arte needs since she’s got no one to really talk to about girl things. she’s a bit off with her assessment, though. Those things don’t necessarily mean love. A crush, lust, etc are all possible

“Loving someone so much that you lose your head is the first step to hell” great advice

Glad they made up at the end there, was really just an issue of not understanding each other. I think Arte understand’s Veronica position a lot better now.

That’s it?? Wow, episode flew by. Felt like a half length one. We got a decent amount of character growth from Arte in a single episode and that was really nice to see, as well as her making a new friend. Can’t wait for next week :)

The show had an alright first episode, but like the manga, it only declined for me after. I didn't like this episode at all and the fact that the art is a lot cheaper, and the characters like Arte come across as more annoying and preachy for me, this has really been such a weak and spineless adaptation for a mediocre manga.

I've to thank that courtesan for making Arte back on track of being professional and wrecking the Leo/Arte ship. And the next episode will focus purely on Leo, yes!

its cool Arte's a painter and all but what we really want is to see her as a courtesan so she can better 'entertain' us (っ◔◡◔)っ

Great episode again.

Flustered Arte is adorable. <3

I'm glad Veronica and eventually the baker were able to show Arte that despite whatever happens she has to have the resolve to move forward and do her work. Also, very glad to see that Veronica and Arte found a friend in each other.
The portrait looked beautiful.

Arte was bit annoying in this episode tbh especially how she got angry at veronica and those two guys who were talking bad about baker but I am glad that she at least received some character development in regards to her work which is obviously a strong point of this show.

She did a nice job for her first compensation tho and I liked veronica's character.

Imagine falling in love with a prostitute, can't fathom such degree of simping.

Nice episode again. After the assignment last time, Arte managed to wrap up her job successfully, but not without getting reminded of what it means to be a professional. Moreover, the romance sub-plot is still working well so far and doesn't take away from the other themes.

Also like how Veronica was portrayed.

Rie Tanaka needs to have an ASMR radio show I swear. Thank the high heavens she voiced Veronica. Anyways, I'm glad for Veronica's character and what she represents especially for Arte. Our girl needed a real woman to turn to for these things and this was a great execution. Hopefully the romance subplot is effectively dead after this episode because I cringed heavily at the end of last week's ep.
Don't believe the hype.

Great episode!

A look into an escort's life and I really liked how it was handled so maturely from Arte's point of view. Veronica-san's dedication is something to admire but the line of work questionable, I agree with Arte's opinion on this.

How nice of her to give her a real life demonstration on the dirty side of love though. Not surprising to note that she finally managed to find her groove back again, as a result. Damn, that was one fine piece of art in the end!

Can't wait for more!

You know this anime has potential and all but man they're really using Arte as some sort of vehicle for shoehorning in way too many modern day things. The whole feminism and sexism aspect is completely out of place historically speaking since they've seemingly just applied modern day's version of it onto renaissance Florence for some reason, and the way Arte has been behaving lately just feels like your average anime high school shoujo romance heroine, which again is so out of place for the setting

I love how she keeps learning from other people around her. And she's falling deeper in love but thanks to the courtesan she has become determined to not let love ruin her career.

That's quite a serious character development in just one episode.

Another lovely episode. Arte learned about prejudice against low-wage workers, that she's in love, that being in love will hamper her ability to work. The best message of this episode is that no matter how degrading Arte thinks prostitution is, she respects Veronica for putting so much effort into being good at her job.

This show is tackling a lot of mature themes in a realistic way that I wouldn't expect from anime.

so we've moved on from the "bcuz ur a gurl" arc and now the "what are these obviously love-like feelings supposed to be?" arc. Wonder what else is in store

not really too keen on Veronica, she was basically summed up as 'men bad' and tried to push that onto Arte. Arte as well, I have to agree she felt kinda annoying this ep though can't really explain why

I saw it more as "don't let men distract you from what you're trying to achieve because it's a really tough world for women". If Arte wants to make it for herself she ultimately needs to do that on her own.

You're probably watching the show in the wrong lens. There wasn't a single instance where Veronica's character or behaviour ever implied that "men bad". If anything, what she is trying to say is "to feel love is a very normal and human thing to do. But don't let love take control over you to make bad decisions in life that ruins you". That man who waited for days for Veronica at her house couldn't control his "love", hence he is suffering. But it made Veronica look like the bad person. It's not like it was her fault that the man couldn't control himself.

This was probably the best episode yet. Arte is learning about taking pride in her profession, pushing aside personal feelings in order to do her job well. I like Veronica, personally I believe sex work is work, as long as the person doing it is of legal age and it is consensual. Nothing will change my mind on that. Veronica is doing what it takes to support her family. The baker is swallowing his pride, despite negative comments, to support his family.

Arte is only 15 years old, I think, and she has a lot to learn in the real world. When they showed that former high-class prostitute who looked beat up and was getting slapped around by her female pimp, that was also a good look into how one's personal feelings can interfere with their profession. The customer who badmouthed the baker wasn't wrong, baking is the only thing he can do, prostitution is the only way Veronica knows how to improve her life and so on.

While Arte for me had a rocky start to say the least, this episode is an overall better episode. Arte was taught a sort of life lesson through her new friend. She now has her goal and, while still trying to figure out her relationship with her boss, has managed to develop artistically. She's not making the same types of mistakes that she was doing previously, and she looks like she's only going to get better from here.

Arte...has become lovestruck by Leo, no questioning about it. But in her passion of being an artesan, love being an obstacle is NOT an option.

Another client of Leo's, and it's prostitute-cum-courtesan Veronica. To paint her portrait is the usual stuff of Leo's, but handling this to Arte for her first job, and learning through her knowledge (that's built on hard work, not wealth).

And Veronica being Arte to off-town slums to showcase the harsh life of being prostitutes in such times of old, that is a tough lesson and pill to swallow. Despite being women (in a world that's desitute to females), like Veronica who rejects EVERY man (due to her work profession in the sex slave industry), Arte has to stand strong as well.

Despite being still so young and learning more on the outside world, Arte has made a friend, a long-serving one in times of need.

What she has in store, work hard for it, darling! The best episode so far.

Nice episode. They didn't need to make Arte that stupid in regards to love.
But the conversations with Victoria and her considering Arte a friend in the end ... were nice.

An episode that still indicates how much this work must be taken seriously for the seriousness with which it deals with the topics. There is room for comedy, but one realizes that this anime series does not lose sight of the goal of conveying problems in the female world; making the viewer think. And in order not to skimp on the good things he is already doing, this show makes it clear to those who follow him, how much opening up to the world is fundamental for an individual's growth: the road is a good teacher, together with books. The character of Arte is materializing very well while still being a little naive, while the character of Veronica denotes how much she is a woman of the world, I hope there is further space for Veronica so that her figure stands out better in the pantheon of the cast and who knows as well in history, even if she is not the protagonist, but just to give more materiality to women's themes. I look forward to the next episode, I can't wait!

That time period saw a lot of social change, but obviously this show is not historically accurate, which is too bad. Currently Japan is going through a period in which gender issues in the workplace are changing (at least they were before the pandemic), but this series doesn't even address that, probably because the manga was written a while back.

So this is just another low-quality mindless anime. Weirdly enough, I still looked forward to it. Probably in the same way I look forward to a bag of greasy potato chips.
...but then again, I unironically like Warau Salesman.

So Arte has been having trouble with Leo-san being so close to her, which is understandable lol and she also met and introduced herself properly to Veronica. I really like how Arte respected her as person, acknowledging her hard work instead of simply judging her for her profession or treating her as unworthy because of it. I do think that Arte felt too much for that client. She shouldn't have get involved, and she shouldn't have acted like that with Veronica, the very first person who hired Arte herself for a job. But she did come around after standing up for that baker even if she still can't condone the way she made that man "suffer". Oh, and Veronica also showed her how low a woman can fall if she is blinded by love, especially if they are pretty much walking on a tightrope to keep going on, like a courtesan who doesn't have any guarantees. I think this is true even today and even for men, but yes, Veronica had a point. You shouldn't neglect your job for your feelings since the former can give you the freedom to stand on your own two feet in this world while the latter cannot. I don't think that Arte has to choose between one or another, but she really should focus on her job and on understanding better what she feels without letting it get in the way just like she is trying to.

Yes, I agree with that. And fyi, Veronica is based on real life courtesan named Veronica Franco who known as ‘The Dangerous Lady'. I love how the anime is showing us the other side of renaissance era in Italy historically.

The character placement is VERY GOOD, everyone is doing their part properly, it's nice to see Art discovering new things (love) and having someone to talk to, but that person is a prostitute that makes things more exacerbated, not to mention storybords they're delivering what the scene has to deliver, that's all

Interesting, this episode showed another aspect of how women could live by this era. It was indeed one way to assure a higher lifestyle without being forced to marry a man. However such way of living has positive and negative aspects which we could discover during this episode.

It pains me to say this, but I don't like this anime. The problems Arte faced in the first two episodes were resolved in the same simplistic way, and now it's like the show isn't even about art anymore. I can see how love troubles are a necessary part of Arte's growth but it feels too soon for this, plus it was poorly handled, the whole "omg what is this feeling?" is so cliche and hard to buy. She's 15 and her mother expected her to marry someone in the near future, surely they must have had "the talk", I can't believe she's so clueless about this. Maybe I could if I knew more about Arte's childhood and education.

There's always been people -women or men- who refused to conform to society, the word "feminism" is recent but the idea is not. A lot of anime are idealistic stories about fighting against all odds, I don't see how this one is different.
Plus this episode showed us that Arte was too judgemental and that Veronica, a strong independent woman, was also acting like an asshole at the same time, for the sake of her job. So it was pretty nuanced.

I would agree with Arte that making someone suffer isn't worth respecting or even admiring (imo that doesn't even deserve to be called love but just playing with someone's heart.. which btw always gets back at you one day) but aside of that Veronica does know a thing or two about life so ill sum up something that resonated with me personally:
Never forget about your goals/dreams, the world is cruel with females (or just any soft-minded individual); regardless of who enters your life (love affair or smb else) - continue walking your path, don't get distracted, strengthen your spirit!
