Ah Dr. Harada's age is catching up to him.

Looks like they're developing more into the master match of these rounds. The stakes and competitive setting is so tense now. On the other hand, I enjoyed the change of setting with Chihaya's scenes this episode. She's still the same as ever lol

So she was spreading information, to fight fairly.

Girls are serious. Ex-queen won.

Hosoya-san's character changed after a walk.

Karuta teacher seems to be noticing the improvement in the lady's reading.

Hosoya-san's character becoming his grandfather after main girl's hint (water flow?)?

Main girl is eating w. meijin lol~ She was curious about the dorayaki.

Meijin seems to fall in love. Main girl just realized the time.

Everyone doesn't know what Hosoya-san's character is thinking. And he doesn't really realize that the one who picked the card for him was Mamo's character.

Teacher's knee to limit and saw meijin.

Hmm, I must say I preferred this particular part (Arata channeling his grandpa) in manga form, but it was still a great episode like always.

Chihaya's obliviousness is hilarious. Love her interactions with Suou.

Best part of the episode:

Suou: "I don't have a girlfriend".

Chihaya: "Neither do I".

That oblivious joke works on so many levels.

I expected this episode to be about Megumus match but i'm glad it wasn't.
Since Suo said that if he were to pick his opponent that he would pick Harada, does that mean that Arata might walk out the victor? Great match between the two, i hope Harada-sensei wins.

Two weeks without the show has been excruciating, but so was the major tension in this harada - arata match T_T
The author always find something awesome to turn things around !

Also the Chihaya and Suo moment really surprised me, maybe because I got myself oblivious to romance thanks to the way the show is made :O

Finally after 2 weeks. Really missed this.
Madhouse still doing a great job with the animations and visuals with well coordinated story play.

The queen battle was great, Good short match with Inokuma san with a well deserved victory after being cheered on by her son with the queen title, quite adorable i might add. Megumu also put up a great fight. Both actually are lucky to have people supporting them.

Chihaya and suo having a funny cute moment at the park. Suo already imagining chihaya to be his bride, while chihaya as usual being the air head, just ignores and keeps running. xD
Good to see that even though chihaya regrets she couldn't participate in the queen matches her trip to kyoto was worth it and something to be cherished. For a change she is happy from something other than karuta and also that she wants to learn from Suo especially about the senses, since they both excel at it, suo on another level ofc.

Finally we come to the main event. Finals between Student and teacher.
After Chihayas advice & motivational words and after that brief walk outside, Arata comes back transformed into a version of his grandpa. Looking really cool, calm and yea Scary af even with that smile. I mean you could see on everyone faces how kinda shocked and surprised they were seeing Arata in that form and with those plays. Totally amazing.

Including Harada sensei as well, not only was he taken aback and even got frustrated for a moment which was really surprising, also he just got sent back to the days where he played against Wataya sensei, and for a moment he was so happy being able to relive those moments of youth until the reality check hit him with the pains. Great Intense game, Loving it.
Now with that last scene where harada sensei see's suo and suo with his words, i think the fire will spark inside Harada sensei to fight back and possibly comeback with a victory.
Its gonna be a really hype and interesting next episode.

I feel for Harada a lot. He has to beat both Arata and Father Time here.

Arata was actually pretty damn cool, but I wonder how he'll feel if he wins. One match was given to him, and Harada's knee is acting up in the other.

Also, lol Suo-san. I think he may have misread a couple signals today:

Oh, God! The most handsome guy in the Chihayafuru Universe. Arata definitely has all the features that would make him look exactly like his grandfather! Just 18 years from now he will become the most handsome guy in the story! For now, I am happy with him being second!

Loved it how Arata took Chihaya's advise and even stopped picking cards for Harada-sensei! It wasn't out of disrespect as it seemed to those angry Shiranami players. He just stopped treating Harada-sensei as his mentor to get out of the mindset of seeing Sensei as his superior!

In normal circumstances, they should not even expect an opponent to do what he did during the first game i.e. picking cards that were sent left and right by Harada-sensei. It makes me think it showcased how fickle human beings are and how contrived their perception can get. Those Shiranami players just don't know Arata as a person, much like almost the entire cast - the Arata who stops running to catch the last train when he sees an elderly facing difficulty coming down the stairs in the station. Manga readers and Murao-san know!

Arata's greatest achievement in the story up until now is bringing the youngster in Harada-sensei out. Sensei's smile and excitement were so priceless! But I still cannot root for Sensei ahead of my boy Arata. T_T

Next episode is gonna be lit and lovely! Hehe!

Been pouting waiting for this for 2 weeks! It was torture, lol. But damn - the tension was crazy. Such a great episode! When the ending started playing, I groaned in frustration, although I should have expected they wouldn’t resolve it in 1 episode.
Was happy that Inokuma won the ladies’ match - that was so sweet when her son gave her the flower & called her Queen.
My boi Arata was looking totally badass, channeling his grandpa! I do truly like Harada sensei, but I simply have to root for Arata - I can’t help it! <3
Suou being dragged by Chihaya while trying to tell her he doesn’t have a girlfriend was hilarious! (“I don’t either!” hahahaha)
Honestly though - I kinda thought he had a thing for Shinobu. Guess not!

I'M SO NERVOUS! I really, really want Harada to win! When his knee started hurting right at the end there I was literally in so much distress, I really want him to make it. Also I like the idea of Suou developing a crush on Ayase, which seems to be happening.

Every episode feels so short because each one is amazing and I'm engrossed through the entire thing. I'm glad Haruka won, I was rooting for her.

Competitions like this are great because there is no main character with plot armor who has to win. Either Arata or Hayada could win, and then they could win or lose against Suo. And it will be equally enjoyable however it turns out because we like all the characters.

And seriously Chihaya is the best. "I don't have a girlfriend either!" She's a gem. I get it, Suo. I get it.

Damn, Arata just went into full focus mode. He was incredible here. I really don't know who to root for, I like both of them but I think I'd prefer Harada winning, maybe.

The Chiha-Suou dynamics were so funny. Chihaya is so curious about this weird, mysterious guy. So am I. "Skipping?" Pfffff.... ROFL. It was a nice little break from the karuta matches.

Ikonoma San is such a attaching character. She has such a supportive little family!

Ah Sumire, saw how you took that place.....lol, will Chihaya leave it that way?

Arata being his grandpa is something I never really liked. But it was well depicted. Impossible to say more without spoiling. Harada san is such a passionate player.

I also loved how Suou wants to play Harada, that he finds him exciting. Suou's voice in the anime is so cool.

Stunning episode, like the usual!

Inokuma-san and Megumu-chan going all out giving no shit whatsoever to their appearance was a peach to watch! Aki, you cutie pie, thank you so much! I'm so glad Inokuma-san managed to outdo her past successful self and win the clincher 2-nil, she wholeheartedly deserves it! Here we go, 'bout to get a new Queen yeah! (probably not though, in all seriousness)

2nd reader posting a 'yay' comment on Twitter there was hilarious too, and I imagine Dr. Harada was aware of this and hence one of the reasons why he decided to opt out.

Chihaya and Sou-meijin's interactions following that was gold, darn! I was expecting two Sou-meijin (real & fake) at first xD but good to see she dropped that idea completely just about in time. Skipping from bride to not having a girlfriend was mad hilarious too, ah I'm seriously starting to like him like crazy now!

And guess what? He approves Dr. Harada as a worthy challenger, great to see! I've a feeling he wasn't watching enough of Arata to notice his change but it's still got to be Harada-sensei at the end of the day!

What an ongoing contest between the two by the way! Arata unlocking Wataya-sensei's play style and the teenager in Harada-sensei coming to light, wonderful and really touching stuff right here. And ending on that darn cliffhanger, gah...

Odds are evidently against Harada-sensei here but Arata better not let his guard down now. Harada-sensei 'bout to come all guns blazing now that his resolve has been replenished, one would imagine. Given how things are progressing, it seems highly inevitable that Arata will take the win but I'm still betting on Harada-sensei pulling off a late blinder.

Let's go! Next episode will surely bring this eventful and masterpiece-worthy arc to an end, and I honestly can not wait to see that!

On another note, it's been more than half the journey now so it's about time to reflect on my true feelings regarding this season and drop that tentative score. Yes, it's a 10 of course and off to my favourites overtaking the great and monumental Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (Heavenly Breakthrough Gurren Lagann)!

Wow!!! What an intense match between Arata vs Harada, seeing their match in animated form really is a blessing (I sure say the ENTIRE NEW SEASON in general: OH YES!!!) XD. Now we're seeing Wataya-sensei's playstyle for the first time through Arata's image, very impressive ( the Eternal Meijin: Arata's most beloved mentor), I want to see more of Arata hidden strategies coming from Chihaya's advice, Arata now knows there's are ways of playing against your opponent than just having everyone set in the precious old room apartment with him as "himself": rather if this strategy works for Arata or not is something we will see soon enough: even so, fro the moment let's have fun just seeing Arata's virtual transform his gameplay into a new level: plus his stunning face expression has more of a mature stand smile that really excites me ( even his cute natural smile is adorable) now Arata is actually virtualizing his grandpa's skills into the game against a mentor: boy, Arata never stops to amaze me: seeing a new side of Arata's gameplay is very interesting, plus his gorgeous smile on full screen is a special omake (getting candy-eyes over HIM!!!!):

The episode ends up with a cliffhanger where Suo was watching Harada plays: while he acknowledges Harada as an opponent he wishes to face in the Meijin Tournament: Suo still hasn't seen Arata's true potential in karuta for him not to see Arata as a worthy opponent, don't underestimate him, our boy is special and soon he'll see Arata's true strength.

Well, my initial score (at about Episode 5-6 or so) was in fact a 10 but then I quickly dropped it down to a 9 (=> tentative score). Somewhere along the lines of my "policy" to not give 10s until at least half the ride, I suppose you could call it. Compared to that, I'd say I was optimistically cautious at first although to be frank a little too cautious from my part it seems.

Damn, you really know how to hype one up xD. I can't wait for next episode and beyond (like the usual) then! More people putting this up on their favourites list will be a pleasing sight to savor for the future, no doubt.

Ex-Queen won twice in a row and will be facing the current Queen!

Arata went into more serious mode than he was before, combining his and old Master Wataya's legacies. Cool.

Harada-sensei felt as if he was a lot of years younger. I think he enjoys this match so far. I hope his problem with legs won't be the reason of his hyhypothetical defeat against Arata.

So Chihaya was just spreading some information to have a fair fight. She is stupid in my opinion. Friends are friends, but game is game. If Arata didn't realise his mistakes or things he lacked before, then telling them to him right after he lost match was unfair. Besides Chihaya belongs to Dr. Harada's community, and while she was loyal at the preparations, her actions here were close to be considered as a small betrayal.

That Suo. xD He thought he found a girlfriend candidate. He has no chances in Chihaya's eyes if you ask me.

Everybody noticing how he was resembling to wataya sensei. Smiling with that cool and calm demeanor with a play style which even frustrated harada sensei who is renowned for creating frustration and disruption in the opponent.

OMG, OMG THE NEXT EPISODE IS AN EPISODE TO DIE FOR: I CAN'T WAIT, I'M SO READY!!!! <3

Everybody noticing how he was resembling to wataya sensei. Smiling with that cool and calm demeanor with a play style which even frustrated harada sensei who is renowned for creating frustration and disruption in the opponent. Arata is really stepping it up big time even with his little experience in major tournaments.
Next episode is gonna be the best gift for us fans till yet. <3 :)

Arata is so awesome: his surprise really bring a huge impact of the tournament overall where everyone didn't saw this coming: so much that even Harada really is getting the most of this match that he haven't experience before, Arata surely carries a special gift that draws out the love of the game to his opponents that reflects the love Arata has for karuta.
OH YES, I know exactly what you mean, THE NEXT EPISODE WILL BE SO MEMORABLE FOR MANY OF US SO LET'S GET READY FOR IT, OH YES!!!!!!!!!!

They blew through the queen match much quicker than I expected, but the meijin match has been quite tense. Sou has a little crush on Chihaya though I can't blame him. She's such an adorable goofball. I mean "I don't have a girlfriend." "Me either." says it all.

Well just like every other episode, this one had me hooked all the way till the end.

Watching Chihaya talk with Suo was very fun to watch, feel kinda bad for laughing at Suo getting hit by the ball πŸ˜…

The third match between Arata and Harada is getting very intense. Arata is playing like his grandfather and Harada is playing like his younger self, quite the roll reversal.

This episode was well worth waiting an extra week lol.
Looking forward to next week's!

The matches this season have felt a bit rushed and the animation is not as good as recent season imo. Regardless though it was great episode, As usual, presentation is second to none, i really want Harada to win but seems unlikely, but Suo saying he wants to play Harada means it might not be a lost cause yet.
