Nice to see some background story of the Akagi siblings. They're so cute as kids, especially Mako :D

I think it's noticable that back then, Gaju wasn't as confident as he is now and actually somewhat of a crybaby. There's also more background storylling of Shizuku that I thought was interesting. The competition also got more fierce. Quick step dancing!

Excellent episode again.

Little Mako is so adorable. <3
How the hell does anyone say no to that pouting face?

Glad to see Tatara and Mako's fabulous showing in the previous episode had an effect on Gaju but damn he sure came back really strong after that set back.
Hilarious how Sengoku was being totally savage when Gaju was in tears. xD

Shizuku stepped up her game as well and looks like it even got Kiyoharu riled up.

That release move that Shizuku and Gaju pulled was awesome. Sengoku's dumbfounded face was epic. XD

As much as I want Tatara and Mako to win it all, I really don't want them to separate as a pair.
Let's go special Quickstep variation!

I like how this episode gives you what everyone is thinking, rather than just a one-sided perspective. The show needs more of that.

The characters as kids were cute and Mako was so adorable.

Looks like Shizuku doesn't want to lose. I can't wait to see the special variation.

It's nice to finally get into Shizuku's mind and what she's thinking. I like her relationship with Kiyoharu and her drive to prove herself as his rival. It shows that a male and female character don't have to have a romantic relationship for their relationship to be interesting.

First time the non-animation managed to take me out of the experience, it was REALLY aggravating to the point where directing and music couldn't save it, especially the first half. Still shots for every single dance and they go so far as to describe how great the dance is and how DYNAMIC...yeah, i can't see shit.

Gaju surprised me greatly this episode, he has a good intentions and the siblings pairing should become a thing again, they were really cute together.

Second half was a bit better, they animated like 30 seconds of dancing, hell yeah! /s

Preview makes me hopeful that they will animate more to a better extent (hoping those sequences from the preview are not the only animated ones lol)

It's nice to see how Gaju and Mako got into dancing. She was really cute as a kid. There was also some backstory for Shizuku too. She doesn't want to lose. Gaju was affected by Tatara and Mako's dance, but he came back strong. Shizuku did really well. Their release move to avoid crashing was pretty cool. Sengoku's face was funny.

Only 2 more episodes.

But anyways this arc is really lackluster and it has way too little animation during the dances not that I really mind but hopefully they fix this by the second cour.

Aside from that scene she looked really hot, tho, but one could tell they were cutting corners when it came to art and animation, nonetheless it was still a good episode.

Liked the flashbacks, Gaju and Shizuku had a strong performance and Tartara wants to show his new move, damn I'm fucking hyped for next week, hope I.G saved the budget for it.

I really wish they would animate the dance sequences a bit more. They don't need to do every single one, even just several would be nice. However, the preview has me hopeful that they held back in this episode to save the budget for great dancing animation next episode. Other than that I still thought this was a solid episode overall, and I liked seeing Gaju and Mako's backstory, along with more insight into Shizuku's motivations.

The drawings are so sloppy in this one, at least in episode 8 the still frames didn't look this bad even if there were even less animated scenes than this time. The pacing is too slow, very little actually going on, maybe if the dances were animated properly it wouldn't result so boring, but like this...
I really hope they can get back on track, but by the looks of it they must have fallen behind schedule pretty hard, if it keeps snowballing I have no idea how they will manage a second cour without any pause or recap episode.
Can't really tell what's going on during the dances in the manga (at least the first 2 chapters) but I think I will continue to read it soon, it's not like they show much in the anime afterall.

This pacing....it really kills me. I was expecting the Tenpei cup itself to be 3 episode at most, but now this is just dragging speed. 5 episodes (including the next) for 1 competition, Old sports anime memories are surging back.

TL;dr I just want "You-know-who" to finally show up in the anime...goddamit.

I marathoned the first 9 episodes and caught up this week. But this 10th episode felt very weak. Clearly the concept of "show, don't tell" died here.

Ugh, the still shots and long necks that weren't in the manga pulled me out of the experience for this episode. I get that animating dance is a hard thing, but I.G. needs to put more effort into this. I know they can do better since stuff like Haikyuu exists. Oh well, I'm more excited for the second cour since the competition is more interesting, plus there's Chinatsu.

Not a big fan of the slow-mo close up facial expression shots, it feels like it's freaking 50% of the episode.
I feel like they rely too heavily on it. Don't know if it's a budget thing, so far I'm pretty disappointed in this series.

They should just stop making the episodes and just release the damn ost. People can simply play it while reading the manga and get the same experience. lol

I'm so disappointed with the anime adaptation. It has colors, voice acting and music but that's about it. Every site i go to, there are only two things I see people complaining most about: giraffe necks and lack of animation. Its so sad to see people making fun of it because the manga's art is amazing (no foot long necks/stretched out limbs). Why couldn't they stick with the original art? Why choose to adapt a dance manga if they can't even animate the dance sequences? I loved the manga and always wanted to see it animated because with colors, music, animation etc it would be even more exciting. How wrong was I!

I liked the flashback of Gaju and Mako when they were kids. Gaju was just as stubborn back then as he is now, but despite the frustration during the early stages of dancing with Mako, he was dedicated to getting better and better.

Despite his slip-up during the solo dance, Shizuku worked hard to motivate him and thus, they dominated the next set of dances. The confidence level for the both of them are really high now.

Although I do like the close-up shots of the character's faces during the dances, there was a little too much of that and too little of the dancing animation in this episode. Last week did it much better, so I hoping that Production I.G puts more effort into next week's quickstep dance, otherwise the criticisms its getting for the lack of dancing animations will only continue to grow.

Other than that gripe, this was still a good episode. I'm still rooting for Tatara and Mako to win, even if it looks very unlikely. =3

Meh. They barely showed any dances and reused previous scenes a lot. I liked the background story of siblings but overall the episode felt like nothing special. It's already several episodes in a row where they use static fragments of dances instead of dynamic movements. The point Shizuku made was interesting but didn't feel really significant. We mostly saw the awed expressions of others but we wasn't really shown anything to be impressed with.

Wonderful flashback. Despite everything, it was always Mako who took the first step to bring Gaju into the dancing world. It seems like somehow he's forgotten about that. The reminisce served as a gentle reminder of this.

As for Shizuku, the frustration that she must have had is immense. To think that the one who spurred not one, but two of her partners/rivals into leveling up was not herself, but some kid who hadn't even danced a full year yet. It's all a part of her character growth though, so hopefully she'll come out of this competition stronger than before.

As for Tatara. After doing everything that he could to frame Mako in the best light, it's now time to truly enjoy the fruits of his labor. Cannot wait to see him doing the Sengoku choreography.Even if they adapted the near crash perfectly, I'm hoping to see more animated dance moves next episode, instead of just dynamic stills.

Wow. That episode finished so fast.

Mako-chan's so fucking cute with them cheeks.

I wanna squeeze it. I wanna kiss it. I wanna hug her so baaaad. Huhuhuhuhu heeeelp!

I'LL HOLD HANDS WITH YOU, BABY MAKO. WAAAH!

So, it's Mako who got Gaju to dance. Aww. Who would say no to Mako's fucking kawaii face, though? Ugh. So cute ugh!

I bet Gaju got distracted with Mako being the flower. Hehe. Since he's always been the flower. Hahaha. Dafuq did I just say.

I noticed there are off animation this episode, maan. Especially with Gaju and Shizuku dancing the Quickstep; it was so off. Haha. And Tatara's face mostly.

That was a good episode. I'm no longer commenting about the studio not animating the whole dance, though, since it's been obvious from the very beginning. :/ But I'm still enjoying this anime, fortunately. Haha.

I like seeing their dances more than just images but...oh well. The results of the comp are pretty predictable but still, I can't wait to see it. This comp is being dragged out for too many episodes, in my opinion.
I feel like Gaju is more of a jerk now, after this episode. I understand to grow as an athlete finding new partners would have been better for the both of them but still. Her sister was the one that brought him into dancing (if not for her, he would have been doing something else, most likely) but he still keeps ridiculing her, letting what other people gossip about their pairing affect him and changes partners without even so much as having a good talk with Mako first...

The severe drop in art and animation quality really pulled me out of the experience. "Distracting" would be an understatement. The whole point of the show is the charm and spectacle and beauty of it. That's how the show evokes these feelings that the characters have about ballroom dancing.

It's a shame, because I really enjoyed the first several episodes, and I think this show has a lot of potential. The poor, janky art in the middle of this supposedly dramatic arc really kills it, for me.

Loli Mako is super moe cute!!! must protect loli Mako at all costs!
Gaju & Shizuku pretty nailed it on the Slowfox.
Kiyoharu is now on a good mood!
Fujita & Mako should better nail it on Quickstep or else they'll loose against Gaju & Shizuku.
nice they'll do Sengoku-san's special variation!

Tatara and Mako is almost perfect pair, along with their similar(ish) body types and such (well, Mako indeed is far more experienced than Tatara but Mako hold down her potential with Gaju as their potential was/is not good as Tatara and Mako) I still think Shizuku would release 101% potential from Tatara...

What I dont like about this episode or this series as whole, you dont see many dances. They always explain whats important in a dance (for example Foxtrott this time), but we just see pictures of the dancers. And thats lame! Thats why Yuri on Ice is at least 2 classes above this show.

I mean, i like the characters and the pictures are adorable, but i want to see more animated. How should we, the audience want to see more dancing, or even wanna start dancing when we dont see much dancing?

Dammit, ending on a cliffhanger again! Can't wait for the next showdown. Mako and Tatara are so cute together, but I guess some inevitable variation in partners is going to be interesting too. I love the art style of this show and the music is nice, especially that ED. Definitely one of the best production values this year.
