THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Pretty chill episode, wasn't overly impressive for the finale but I think it was a fitting way to end the show.

Even in the final episode, they still face danger; kinda reminds me of Hazama and his crew when they got taken during the Vietnam War arc. Clash of ideals aside, I think the episode was thrilling, felt slightly rushed but exciting. Overall 7/10. Good show overall, might give the sequel a try in the future.

I think it was a nice ending but I really wished he ended up with senpai and that the child he had in the Sequel was theirs... :/

It was unfortunate that Eri died, but it was an inevitable result. If those idiots just cooperated with the police and listened to Hazama, I'm sure everything would have been fine.

It was pretty cool how they showed his transformation at the end and how he adopted the Black Jack nickname. All of the experiences that Hazama went through in this anime led up to that moment. 6.5/10, I'll probably watch the original series at some point since I've never seen a medical anime before and this proved to be pretty interesting.
People on MAL refuse to actually enjoy watching anime.

Your taste in anime isn't a personality trait.

A bunch of 'revolutionaries' beating up girls. Lmao, what a fucking joke. And I knew Eri was gonna die.

One of the interesting shows this season and I'm sad to see it end. Now I wish a group would pick up the manga...

My initial expectations were not quite met at the beginning, but I have to say it was still a nice and interesting watch. It really was interesting to see Hazama's / the author's viewpoints on morality in medicine.

To be honest, I didn't really feel that Eri's eventual death was built up to well enough for the final episode when Hazama makes his declaration to practice medicine as long as he saved lives.

Also, I wanted mall details about Hazama's debt! >: (
And the revolutionaries made me cringe a bit.... :|

And so Hazama finds his conviction beyond the corruption, cruelty and despair present in his age.

Pretty decent finale if you ask me. Overall a good show, I liked it.

Felt a little rushed, maybe if it was a 13 episode series it could've been better, but regardless it's was a decent ending to this series. Might check out the original Black Jack myself, but I hope they remake it like what's being done with Ushio to Tora.

Overall 7/10

Those revolutionaries were all assholes! I can't believe Eri died!

Hazama's transformation at the end was interesting! This was one of the best anime this season. All the stuff he had to experience made him the man he became.

I enjoyed this series much more than I expected and I give it a 9/10! Loved all the characters we met, and all tragedies that Hazama had to experience! Great story!
So glad that I'm not a huge manga reader, because the manga readers WHINE WAY TOO MUCH and have to RUIN every adapted anime for the ANIME ONLY WATCHERS!

Alriiight. They really butchered this arc. It was supposed to be more emotional and have more impact because Eri was developed more through the 4 out of 5 chapters of the arc. The "leader" of the revolutionary group was not the one who inflicted all that damage to Eri, in fact he was desperate and went to Hazama for help (4 years after she last saw him and brought him to help some injured people). Eri did not die from a bullet wound, Hazama tried to fix her, and when she woke up, it seemed like everything would be okay, but she ended up passing away. Most importantly, Hazama operated on Eri when he was already Black Jack!

I really enjoyed most of the series, but the later arcs were really rushed, therefore some of the impact was lost. I'm glad for the anime adaptation though, because without it, I wouldn't have ever started reading the manga. It's quite addicting, and I really like the experiences Hazama faced before him becoming Black Jack. The theme and concepts of moral dilemmas, importance of life, and corruption of the medical field were some things to think about. Young Black Jack was among my favorites of the season. I will definitely give the OVAs and the Black Jack TV series a go in the future! I will miss this :(

DAMN that was a really sad episode. a girl just died in this episode and she was his first patient too. but i felt this episode was a little bit rushed too. Good ending overall.
tbh i really enjoy this anime a lot, the character design and the art was pretty good. the plot was great and so the soundtrack too, so i will give it 8/10. i hope i can see a sequel from this anime.

Thank you for the show.

This series had a whole lot of problems. From one dimensional illogical villains to out of place obnoxious fujoshi pandering. This should've been a series of Black Jack's steady descent into darkness when its vigniettes often failed to portray Hazama as someone who's slowly being disillusioned by the medical field.

So it still stands. The only Black Jack anime truly worth watching is the Dezaki ova series from the 90's.

After Eri dies, Hazama accepts her death(?) and as part of his experience, someone he won't forget because she was his first patient,

Yup that would've been a lot better. Especially the part about him actually failing to save someone is important for a genius like Hazama

Eri's death was coming from a mile away but it was still pretty dramatic and emotional albeit felt kind of crammed together. I get that Eri meant a great deal to him as his first patient, but it felt like they were whimsically stumbling through this connection and it wasn't nearly as profound as it could have been. I know this is supposed to be a prequel leading Hazama to becoming a black market doctor, but the ending didn't really sell me on his transition into the darkness. It does a good job at building up Hazama's resentment for the state of the medical world around him, but it felt like there should have been more. It just left something to be desired.

Well overall YBJ turned out to be an interesting selection. It reminded me a tad of Monster's first few episodes, although I only make that comparison because it's the only other medical drama I've seen. I wasn't all that enthusiastic about it early on but Vietnam, Civil Rights Movement, and Hyakki's arc drew me in with ease. I like how it touches on political controversies rarely explored in anime, although at times it felt a bit heavy handed and cheesy, leading to the characters making corny moral declarations. Nevertheless, the effort is appreciated and I like what it was able to do with those scenarios and themes as a whole.

7/10, will definitely be watching the original Black Jack.

But then you remember that this is fanfiction out of a great work, and a mockery of manservice out of it, 4/10 if compared to the original material.

So i will round it out to 5/10.

Holy fuck, this episode really rustled my jimmies right up to the very end. Eri's injuries were inflicted by her own godamn comrades. "Revolutionaries?"...Let's call them as they are: domestic terrorists, and murderers. Their crimes including multiple counts of assault with deadly violence, torture, attempted murder, illegal possession of firearms, theft (likely stolen firearms), domestic terrorism, kidnapping, illegal detainment, organized crime...shit I could go all day listing everything these fuckers deserve to die a painful death from. I really hoped those asshats were shot by police for their fucked up logic and unforgivable crimes instead of Eri. FFFUUUU!!! Now I hope those radicals get hanged after they were arrested.

But Eri wasn't all without fault herself...she may have tried getting out in the end, but she got herself deeper into trouble even after hearing Hazama's warning. Regardless, still too young to die.

Some new faces in the end credits. Does that mean a sequel remake? New OVA series!? Not even the Young Black Jack manga is available in English. I need maor YBJ! The manga is still apprently on-going, so I'm sure they can spin another series out.

Intersting to see some differences between the manga spoilers and the anime....I personally don't mind some of the changes, since it gave Hazama all the more reason for him eventually embracing the darkness and becoming a rogue doctor.

Yeah I really wish they spent more time on this arc. Every story after the introduction was either 3 or 2 episodes long, so it's sad to see wasted potential with this one. It really does feel like it could have been better if they did it like tingy said. But oh well, what happened in the episode was good on its own as well, it just could have been better.

Overall, it can't be even compared to the quality of the Dezaki OVA from the 90s, so whoever wants more Black Jack should go watch that. This show was good as well, and I enjoyed the Tezuka cameos, which really made this feel familiar.

My biggest complain is either censorship or their decision not to gamble with drawing inaccurate operations. Maybe it was just too expensive to hire someone with medical experience to help on the show, maybe it's censorship. I don't know, but in both case it's a big flaw. It feels so cheap when they just skip the operation.

So does the appearance of several new character cards in the Ending sequence confirm a second season of YBJ?

The manga is not finished so there is still more material for this, and as these characters were shown in a redesigned rendition it cannot be leading onto another main series BJ.

However this ending did seem to suggest that this was the ending by that epilogue and reveal of the narrator being Hazama.

So I guess we'll just have to wait for confirmation at this point.

Although I listened to the ED as usual, I didn't look at it...I would love another season of YBJ, as long as they never rush an arc like Eri's again. I also love Umehara as young Hazama. There's definitely plenty of material left for more than a 12 episode cour. would love to Hazama in high school. They could just be teasing the audience though and be like, "want more? Go buy manga :D"

As for the ending, this chapter was actually earlier on in the series, a few arcs before Hyakki's. The manga goes sort of back and forth in time, each arc as a separate case, like Eri's arc. They're events with Eri that happened at different points in time within 5 years. This arc fits really well as the end of the season, but it wouldn't feel weird imo if they were to make another season despite this ending. The reveal with the narrator was pretty cool though, something the manga can't do, or didn't do.

Being an anesthesia provider...this show was ridiculous from practicality standpoint but that's fine given the context.

Aside from that, it didn't really do anything for me. The stories were somewhat interesting and since that is the essence of Jack Black, these kind of stories, it isn't my cup of tea.

The longer arcs were mostly enjoyable, compared to 1 episode rushing. Wish Hyakki arc was longer. Still a proper end though, as it ties back to the initial student protests. Medical anime seems rare too. Prefer they show more medical diagrams or the actual surgery. Great OP/ED music.
