After only 2 episodes this series is entering the 'it's so bad it's good territory'. The ubiquitous cherry blossoms and the size of necks/horses and boobs are hilarious to say the least. I'm genuinely curious to see where they take this weird story to.

It was a decent episode. I appreciate the creator's guts, with which they show us such pretentious characters even today. A lot of people enjoyed characters of these kind when the Fist of North Star was released back then. But alas they look pretentious to today's eye. People's preference and tolerance change as times goes by, which is one of reasons why old anime are not appealing to today's viewers. No wonder Lupin 2012 and Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2012 didn't draw attention from viewers so much.

The classic shounen are frankly much better than most of the garbage that makes up modern shounen. This show is way better than shit like Naruto/Bleach/Fairy Tail or your standard romcom/harem bullshit. Not to mention that the protagonists are definitely better than the idiot heroes or lame grass-eaters you see these days.

For me, this show is getting better, and I agree about "it's so bad it's good" that was mentioned by Marzan.

The Keiji impostor was there only to take advantage of the money, huh? And that giant black horse reminds me of Ken-Oh's "Kokuoh-Go", HAHAHA!! :D

I'm on the "it's so bad it's good" train too! lol
This episode was a bit better than the last. I'll stick around and see what happens. I still find the character designs for the two mains to be ridiculous...I mean they're like 10 feet tall! But, then again, I only have to look so far as any moe and harem anime to find something equally crazy, so whatever lol.

I have a feeling people are calling this bad due to the bloated artwork and character design, other than that, it's a genuinely decent anime thus far with some nice characterization going for it. Not even close to being bad.

Gya-ha-ha-ha - rolls on the floor- ho-ho-ho!...

Maa, yoi! :D

It already surpassed Free! in a very meaningful way, he he, but whatever, it doesn't bother me that much. And for the record, I love Souten no Ken (even more than Hokuto no Ken), so the character designs don't bother me either.

Thoughts:

* Better than the first episode.
* GAR and pathos in a whole new quantity level :D
* The real eccentric here was Kanetsugu, who changed the tradition by allowing the fight instead of going with the bribe/ransom/gifts.
Thus, when he was certain that no real political agenda was involved (the Maeda clan has no finger in this and Maeda's name was misused in a fraud), it was up to him to decide the dispute.
Honestly, what he did has its moral - the father is punished to watch the stupidity of his son's doings, the son reaps what he sow, the women vent their anger, and the whole business doesn't affect nothing but the Uesugi's clan. The real pest are beheaded (those imposters and crooks).
* Once in the opposite sides on a battlefield, becoming friends in life. Real righteousness is born when applied equally - even in regards to the (former) enemy.
* YAY!

I am watching lot of stuff right now, so if the story keeps going in small arcs - 1-2 episodes, better wait.

Kanetsugu: "Please feel free to laugh. This is my righteousness."
Maeda (stares intently): "Hahahahaha!"
Kanetsugu (stares intently in return): "Hahahahaha!"

XD Pure AWESOMENESS! Hahahahaha!

Excellent breakdown of what went down in this episode... very well said! I am somewhat confused about the use of the term "righteousness" in this series. Taken at its most basic definition (something like "the adherence to one's personal morals, values, sense of honor &/justice"), I get it, yet I can't help but feel like I'm missing some other meaning that is, perhaps, more applicable to the story. It could be my unfamiliarity with the culture, not to mention it's history, in general. I've definitely encountered this before while enjoying anime, manga, and Asian drama. Sometimes it's more of an obstacle than care for, leaving me feeling at quite a disadvantage ("Gintama" and "Oda Nobuna no Yabou" are two examples which immediately come to mind).

All that being said, I don't plan on dropping the series quite yet; however, it may -eventually- end up in the "On Hold" list for a time. I'll give it a heckuva go first. ~Cheers!~

The whole righteousness thing threw me off as well, then i realised i'd always thought about it with religious conotations (raised as a catholic, now an athiest). I kinda read it as "this is who i am"

The Anime also happens to break the concept of "show, don't tell" a lot as well, what with the characters telling the story rather then letting the story tell itself.

I don't speak Japanese and I can't say anything remotely proper or informative on the word ("righteousness"). Given the period and the historical figures, some philosophy behind the way of the warrior and the wisdom of the person with power might have been adopted.

I went back and checked up on Souten no Ken, because of a certain deja vu, and, of course, I cannot struggle with kanji, but Kenshirou also speaks of a " - gi -" (similar [in sound] to this one here), and it is translated as both "loyalty" and "honor". Goes with "my" in front, so what you have found seems right - "a personal code of justice" (let say).
Giffu Doudou relates it directly to the historical figures of Maeda and Kanetsugu, known (perhaps) for developing exactly the personal side of the "gi", as opposed to others, who simply followed the rules of the cast system, or fictional characters in anime, who'd yell it without much explanation and in every occasion (Gintama excluded).

because over sized delts, pecs, traps and tight glutes aren't as popular (and don't sell as well) as big breasts on young girls

Yeah, I don't really get that some people find this show bad. The art looks great, and the battles are decent.
This show reminds me of Sengoku Basara. Both of the stories seems to not noticeable, but the battles are just the same like last time.
I like the op and the ed themes.

Agree! Old anime > most of the new anime, and I like the old anime's characterization much more, they don't feel like they're following an archetype.
