THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
No episode discussion for this yet? I'll start then.

Hmm...not a great movie, not even a good movie. Really cliche and you might aswell skip this.
But in the end i guess is good to see more Saint Seiya.

Well, first, the movie was NOT THAT BAD as the above posters make it sound to be, what happened here is that it was supposed to be the first of a series of movies that would become the canon sequel to Saint Seiya but the project was cancelled so it opened plot holes and had a confusing ending...

@Darkarson

Well, SS Omega is not canon sequel, and Overture movie while it was as some point it is no longer, so this movies DOES NOT FIT in the SS universe, Omega either, its an orignal work by Toei, although it tries to establish itself as a non canon sequel, similar situation of Lost Canvas.

Dont mind the ending, as stated who knows what happened, the movie was supposed to bet the first of several that would adapt the ZEUS chapter, evidently that was NOT supposed to be the ending.... but if you did not know disagreement between Toei and Kurumada frustrated this project, and as result Kurumada launched SS Next Dimension manga which is THE REAL CANON SEQUEL and at the same time PREQUEL to Saint Seiya, currently being serialized.

Again, This movie and Omega are not canon, you cannot expect them to make sense or to really connect.

Mmm...from a critical view, if I put my heart into it what I watched, I'd put it below average.

It is a quick movie, and it is GORGEOUS to look at. Pretty boys! Looking at Shaina's lightning was impressive.

Now there's the story. It is a typical seiya movie - THE Gods SAY "BOW", but the humans say PHUCK YOUUUUU! The gods are always high and mighty, and the Saints are always there to face them because they live how they want, and they want to protect it. In this movie's story, Apollo monopolizes the Sanctuary because his sister Athena (Saori) submits for Seiya's sake. But the God Warriors go after the Saints anyway.

There is the original cast, which is a good point. Frankly, I don't see why they were removed from Hades Saga, but the director said that they were important. I think it has to do with Furuya Toru and the balance of his performance.

Then there's Shun's NEBULA CHAAAAAAAAAAIN! Goosebumpy good!

But what really made the movie"bad"?

The ending for one thing; then, there's terrible fighting against the other Bronzies. Seiya's fight with a God Warrior was probably the only ones that were good. Saint Seiya is a lot about fighting, techniques, and surviving against the worst circumstances. No matter how many times Seiya gets blasted, he always buckles and it looks very lame. And what's with attacking the stomach? ^^; Ikki looked bad too. Sure, it shouldn't always be easy for him.

Then, there's the character Toma. It seemed so pointless.

I really liked the art, animation and colors. But that's about it really... Repetitive as always and slow pacing. Also, the ending was kind of weird. 6/10

I really liked this movie.

I guess it's not bad to be in the opposition for once. ^^

I liked that they gave a backstory to Marin.
I liked to see the pain on the faces of bronze saints, it felt livelier. (They are human after all)
I liked the fights.
I liked the visuals.

Because St Seiya is actually a lot more about ideals & convictions fighting/clashing and not losing faith while facing the worst circumstances. The techniques are only here to make those "confrontations of faith" look cooler than they should.
Toma was supposed to have a role beyond this introduction and is the conclusion of Marin's personal intrigue (just like Seika was found at the end of the Hades Chapter, for Seiya's intrigue). This is a chqracter made by Kurumada himself and when , "betrayed", he decided to produce the sequel on his own, he immediately included it in the "Kuru-manga".

@Pethaas "As a whole", do you mean as a whole story? (it was merely a prologue)
I'd like to know what made you find it bad, please.

to be fair, the movie was just fine, nothing to be complimented

i said "as a whole" because the first entire hour of the movie almost doesn't make any sense artistically speaking, and the characters were a bit off

but the last 20mins... awesome!

Too be honest, it's been a few years (?) and I've garnered a new level of respect for this series and the Staff that worked on it. Looking back at what I said, I'm not sure why I did. Maybe I was upset at the ending? And now, it'll never be the same in terms of visuals (unles Himeno Michi does key animation again) and melody.

It turns out the classic movies follow a similar style; Overture is visually appealing.

Honestly, I only have 1 big complaint about the movie which is Apollo being introduced almost at the very end. I was aware of the ambiguous ending, but unaware this was supposed to be a bigger project. Apollo seemed like a great final boss, so to say, so I wish we could've seen more of him.

Aside from that, I don't really know why this film is so widely disliked. I had a great time watching this, not being bored in the slightest. The visuals are absolutely beautiful and although the fights weren't the greatest, I still thought they were fine. I suppose that besides Seiya and Saori the other characters didn't do much, but I still thought it was enough. The music was great as always and I love that ending song.

Perhaps I liked this movie so much because it felt very 'fresh' to me. I didn't expect to like it as much as I did. The Hades Chapter started to bore me halfway through and got tiresome so I'm actually glad I can call this the end now... even though the project was cancelled, but oh well, I still prefer this.

I recently rewatched this movie for the first time in ~15 years, and I gotta say it's not bad if you're a fan of the series, but yeah, it has quite a few bad points. Mainly, the progress of the story is super janky and makes gigantic jumps from one scene to another, leaving you with a feeling of disconnection. Another thing that bothered me a lot was the small time dedicated to the other saints; out of freaking nowhere there were they fighting this angel dudes and getting wrecked for ~5 minutes, and then we never see them again.

Anyways, the animation and art style are top notch, and you guys have to admit the concept was really cool. Heck, I was a teen when this thing came out and got me super hyped for the heaven saga.

The first movies had a point and I liked them. This one is inconclusive and it will never get any sequel, so it's even pointless. Sometimes I couldn't get why some characters (Athena first) acted in some way. The ending is like "okay, we don't care about giving this movie an end" because there will never be a second movie. Waste of time but good animation indeed, I enjoyed hearing one last time the old voice actors. 5/10.

I really do not understand why some "fans" or viewers of Saint Seiya did not enjoy this movie. Shock! :o
It's one or the best SS movies in my opinion. I remember watching it younger and I absolutely loved it!
(I rewatched it recently and I loved it even more) <3
What's wrong with you? Just kidding! xD

Needless to mention the beautiful sceneries, graphic designs and quality. (I was in love with the water animation scenes in this movie lol)
The fight scene with Ikki and Shun was so cool. Ikki is very soft here, such a great saint!

Overtune's story fits perfectly fine after Hades chapter and we get to see new greek Gods Artemis and Apollo -> in the end of the movie.
Seiya clearly lost his memory after the war with Hades and he got a new chance to live again free from Athena's will but chose not to and defied the will of the rest Gods again.

Apollo is Godlike. We get to see him so little but it's good enough. What an appearence!!! My God!!! He was so mysterious and imposing!

I loved the fact that Apollo, who is the epitome of ultimate aurthority and justice, was moved by Athena and Seiya's will of sacrificing themselves for the sake of humanity and Earth in general.
He even gave Seiya a second chance to keep on living on Earth under Athena's protection and let them be.
It's very interesting seing a God changing his mind for the sake of a single mortal's heart and passion.

How beautiful and inspiring this movie is guys!!!
