The story is so great, and the orchestral treatment brings out the highlights wonderfully. Because of the pace, there is a lot left unsaid, but previous viewers know what's going on and new ones can at least intuit the story if they pay close attention and have a modicum of intelligence. This would be an easy 10 if not for the horrendous cgi treatment.

Griffith's dreams and charisma are dragging everyone along to heights they would never have achieved or even imagined without him. Guts and Casca are making their own mark, as is the Raiders subcompany, but can Guts truly be content with a place under Griffith's throne? When will he realize and understand his own ambitions and the parts to be played by his companions?

Iirc didn't zodd help win that fight? when he threw his sword to guts? or perhaps twas a different fight.

Nah you're right, only the '97 anime adapted this. Iirc, the movie trilogy never added this bit but I could be wrong.

Another fabulous episode.
Shout out to the exceptional music/soundtrack/sound-design. Such epic, powerful symphonic action is thrilling and on point.
Fondue, what a battle. Guts upon guts upon guts. This one episode is a frantic ride, some top-notch action-adventure.

For some reason, I enjoyed watching this scene more in an episodic format instead of the original movie format. The 1997 anime is still better though.

This really doesn't work in episodic format. Transition between episodes is terrible. Series has no momentum whatsoever...

already knew since episode 1 that the second part from the movie will get the new scenes and hoping the third ones will get one too, still disappointing that they didn't replace it with zodd helping guts.

and oh... charlotte scene, that was new scene to me.

The fact that people will defend this series because “it's an adaption of Berserk” is sad. The movies weren't a good adaption. This series, despite its additions, isn't a good adaption.

The fact that the 2013 Berserk anime project wasn't just a sequel to the 1997 series becomes a bigger mistake with every day that passes. The movies and this series have some stuff that was cut from the show but don't carry the spirit of Berserk at all. It feels so hollow.

I just hope they follow this up with something good (I.e. an adaption of the Black Swordsman arc). If not this will all have been a waste.

One of the worst when it comes to animation, one of the best when it comes to editing and music. The moment "My Brother" kicks in is just great. Unfortunately some inacurate moments to the manga slipped through as well, which really sucks. I think there's also a weird cut between the aftermath of the Battle of Doldrey and Band of the Hawk being cheered on in Midland Castle. It seems strange that just one cut separates dead bodys, some of innocent people and this joiful moment. Also, the lack of inner thoughts, that Guts had in the manga makes that last scene kinda underwhelming. In the end its still a fun ride.

Man, a sequel to 97 it'd be easy.

The only really important things deleted were Skull Knight and his backstory. Not perfect, but it'd be pretty easy to adapt Skull Knight's first appearance as saving Guts and Casca, and the backstory could be reintroduced later with Falconia, but oh well...

This episode was OK.I liked hearing Dragonslayer and The Black Swordsman, but I HATE the fact that they skipped Zodd LITERALLY GIVING GUTS HIS SWORD and instead, focused on bad to okay looking 3D fights.I am dissapointed.

Lord Gennon, obviously. We cut to him right after we see his head get removed.

(Joking, of course, but for a split second that's what I was thinking)

As a 2022 seasonal TV anime episode, this episode was pretty good.

The episode was one big battle from start to (almost) finish, and the studio really went all out, it felt suitably huge and brutal. I was impressed, especially after hearing a lot of criticisms of the movies, and I have to say CGI animation served the show pretty well here. The fights felt efficient and not showy, but they had a decent amount of choreography, which fit the characters and the tone of the show. The aftermath and the parade scenes also looked pretty striking and lavishly produced.

As one episode within a season, it felt a little awkward; this episode continues the pattern of feeling like a section of a movie that the studio did their best to dress up as a TV episode. The characters don't do or say much to develop in this episode; it's almost all business. Some awkward cuts also had me wondering if they were sloppily re-edited (I can't be sure because I haven't seen the movies).

A few disappointing changes were made from the manga. I did not see anything major that badly damages the story, though. The relationship between Gennon and Griffith was only implied, and I cannot remember whether the show already expanded (or will expand?) on that through Casca's recollections. It would help us understand and sympathize with the characters of Griffith and Casca more. Another change was Zodd's role in Guts' fight. By removing his intervention from the show, Zodd's motives were left unclear, and he became just a monster that Guts fought that one time.

Based on the votes and comments, people obviously don't want Berserk 1997, D: Bloodlust or Ninja Scroll type of animation. They want Berserk 2016 all over again. To be fair, with better CGI. Basically, they want Trigun Stampede adaptation for Berserk. Even if Black Swordsman comes after this, you wanna guess how it would look? But, let' hope for the best. Hopefully nothing related to anime is announced.

Otherwise, very epic fights, especially Guts' and Casca's!

I was looking at all those civilians glorifying their heroes and realized that they didn't understand

Guts' power lies not in just his strength, but his fast reflexes and speed as well. Combined, he becomes the ultimate berserker! Just seeing him in the battle cutting through all of those soldiers with precision and speed was amazing to watch. Does Guts still not understand how much of a valuable asset he is to the Band of the Hawk?

Such a good episode. At the end of the episode when Guts remembers what Griffith told him about making his own kingdom, now they're victorious and one step closer to that dream of his.
