Wow...
For an old movie I was rather moved more than I expected to be. The whole premise is rather disturbing and strange. But once you get used to the idea that the little girl is actually a cat, you actually kind of grow attached to her in some way.
Its definitely a movie for little princess loli's (aka little girls) but is also good to watch on a lazy summer day.

Great movie. We, The viewers, being able to see the cats in the form of humans with cat ears and tails was interesting, and Chibi-neko's behavior was certainly that of a curious cat.

I'm glad Tokios' mother got used to Chibi-neko. That made for a very nice ending.

Oh well, I didn't expect a small scale coming-of-age from this one. :O
I guess I missed a bit of conflict in this movie, nothing was particularly engaging after all. It didn't have anything particularly bad, but it was lacking a lot in the overall picture.

Extremely cute. Not cat-girls, but girl-cats rule.
You all need to watch Nami.

I feel like I need at least a couple hundred more completed to find this movie as anything else besides trippy. This is Angel's Egg 2.0.

I really loved this movie, it was thought-provoking and dreamlike. The idea of pets thinking they are just like the people who look after them is always an interesting one. For those who have pets, I think they could relate to that in this movie.

I'm on the hunt for more shows/movies like this now.

Wow this was such a beautiful, ethereal movie, I felt like I was in a dream. Also the chibi neko reminds me of Alice in wonderland for some reason, she’s so cute!!

Is movie is awesome!

Yes, the animation is excellent and I want to see more from this staff and director, but the best part is actually the direction. Notice how it extracts all weight from the situation and brings levity to the scene? A really nice job done here.

I loved this film. It's weirdly charming and charmingly weird. The scene with the sashimi was hilarious. Plus the animation looked great.

I don't understand Japanese but I feel like there must be some sort of mistake with the translation to the word "allergy" because it really didn't seem like the mother had a cat allergy at all. That's really not how cat allergies work. I think they meant phobia. She seemed scared of the cat like she would faint if the cat came near her, that's not an allergic reaction. Lol.

Anyway, this film was cute. In a weird way it reminded me of Angel's Egg - except much less disturbing. Very enjoyable 8/10

I didn't expect to see something weirdly existential. I'm confused how/if Raphael died, but I imagine the bamboo forest is where a cat goes to die?

She originally runs away from him because she doesn't want to accept her cat sense; a cat lives a cat's life. She acknowledges it at the end, but interesting how she runs to the forest instead of into the house. After everything, she still can't accept the difference, bringing her to 'how someone dies a cat's death'; the corpse. She felt stuck and in-between, until the mama came and overcame her own reality. She could let her phobia continue and nothing in her life would change, like how Chibineko could go and live life as a street cat. But they hug and ultimately want to enjoy each other.

(And Raphael is just standing there? Maybe the corpse wasn't him?? Doesn't actually matter in the grand scheme of things, I think.)

The ending with white field being on the brain puts this weird tone of sadness everywhere. Leaving us with something disturbing, when death is a heavy topic in contrast to how sweet and innocent everything else was.

Overall a nice film with really pretty backgrounds. I think cat owners would especially like it, I know I did.

Utterly adorable movie about a catgirl with a cat maniac voiced by Kaneto Shiozawa himself? Yes please!

There was that weird pan up from the floor to Tokio and his father's faces talking about Mom's allergy that looked like CGI.

The faces look good. It's rare to see lips in anime, I think. Added a lot to the cuteness of Chibi-neko especially.

"Every food was originally alive" - now that line really made me sad

I guess Raphael's fate is better explained in the manga.

The cutest thing I have ever seen. ^^

Very sweet movie with nice messages. And surprisingly profound. Didn't expect it to touch upon death of all things.

I think you are correct on that.

No the japanese was very obviously the word allergy but it was a euphemism for phobia. It was probably easier to tell kid tokio he can't have a cat because his mom is allergic than because she's scared.

I thought it was pretty cute. the age difference stuff was a little weird to be honest, but you need to remember they are cats despite having human appearances. I saw Tokio's relationship with Chibi-Neko as more of an older brother than anything.

I was happy that the mom got over her fear at the end and finally pet Chibi-Neko. The cat people designs were fun, and I think this movie captures the whimsy and adventure of a cat's life well.

Can someone explain what happened to Raphael after the cat maniac scene, and what was that zombie stuff in the bamboo forest at the end?
I am so lost, but maybe just because I am not that well versed in Japanese culture.
It’s time to ditch the text file.
