Official world premiere ahead of schedule.

A Japan-made RWBY after almost a decade courtesy of Shaft, it's sad that creator Monty Oum died before he could see this dream come alive, the way that his esteemed series SHOULD be animated.

As a re-telling of Volume 1 of RWBY in this "canon adjacent" series, even as an anime-only, this was even more perfect than what Rooster Teeth made it out to be back in 2013. Shaft truly knocked it out of the park thanks to Tow Ubukata's succinct scriptwriting and series composition that encapsulates the beginnings of Team RWBY with Weiss, Ruby, Blake and Yang on their own separate paths, and then converging paths at Beacon Academy. Even Shaft's signature head tilt is also here.

Also, having Void_Chords increases the hype even more for that oh-so-banging insert song and the OP.

If there is a RWBY series that truly showcases its hype and reputation, you can thank Japan that they saved the dying franchise and re-birthed it anew.

- Yeah, but this also means that we should wait 4 weeks for episode 4.
- My guess is they wanted to get rid off the introduction/adaptation part fast and continue with the anime original part of the show.

I'm hoping this first episode is essentially a retelling that will separate from the original series so going fresh with my mind on this one. First episode is going on a very strong start, damn the sakuga are insane in this episode from Wiass sword fighting till Ruby's fight.... MY JAW DROPPED. Hell, they even added a fantastic soundtrack, alongside its fantastic execution and choreography, loved that swinging scythe, want that weapon fr.

Long live Monty Oum and his series that has blossomed beyond expectations. I honestly didn't expect this to be adapted, but I couldn't be happier to know that it's been added to the site. To anyone who has yet to see the first episode(s), or the original animation, I strongly recommend it!

- This is actually noob friendly, you can start watching it with zero knowledge of RWBY.
- Apparently the adaptation part is not 1:1 accurate with the original. Some minor changes, early introductions, shortcuts in the story and rearrangements are made, but on a basic level is very similar.

Observations and comparisons with OG RWBY.
- Early extended introductions, especially interesting in the case with the Schnee family.
- Wow, they even adapted/reinterpreted partially two of the original trailers (those had scenes which are not in the original show) with additional info.
- Some updates of how dust and semblance work - they took those from the later RWBY seasons.
- Interesting additional worldbuilding details.

The first episode has such fantastic action sakuga and RWBY being one of the first animated series(not Pokemon or series like that), it was a delight to watch. Weiss' intro was the best.

You can for sure. It seems to be made for new fans but also works as both a sort of re-telling and side story esque for old fans. Which is pretty impressive. I would still recommend the original too. It starts a bit iffy but grows into something I think is quite decent.

I'm hoping it goes its own path after this. I enjoy the OG series, and would prefer to see it change it up a bit as it goes on and becomes its own separate story.

Its nice to see the RWBY. I remember watching it when it was still new but lost interest around Volume 7. Also is it just me or does yang have a ara ara milf face? Also near the end it was sort of abrupt on how they skipped over the warehouse fight. But I guess they sort of have to cram a bit to get everything.

Fight scenes are great, there are tweaks that make the story flow better, character designs are cool. I liked the new content with the idea of different types of Grimm & specialised Hunters.

I like how there is actual drama and conflict between the main girls. Weiss acting like a sheltered, slightly bratty rich girl was something I felt was glossed over too quickly in the original series. Yang being more protective of Ruby & standing up to Weiss was also a nice touch. We also see more of Ruby second guessing herself with more than just a few lines.

They didn’t seem to include that whole bullying thing with Juane. Thank god. Always hated that storyline.

My only real complaint is the glossing over of Penny’s introduction. But that’s because I liked the fight scene.

kinda underrated but the fact that they included the original trailers *chef's kiss*

rushed? perhaps, did i enjoyed it? of fucking course, RWBY became an actual anime, from anime inspired fan proyect (if you can call it that way i guess)

and here one wonders..ehy cant they do this berserk, at this point even red vs blue is going to get an adaptation before berserk gets a good one
Being a fan is like having a penis. Its nice to be proud of it But don't pull it out in public and wave it in other's faces

Well Rock gets around, it's barely been a week since she went off the air.

Introducing Weiss's and Ruby's families early is a huge improvement, but it's a shame they couldn't do much with the scenes from the former first episode.

The conversation with Summer's grave was unintentionally hilarious. The constant cuts back to the stone just sitting there, ridiculous.

I'm noticing Shaft's traditional laziness, the switch between standard and action animation is horrendous, and the latter is noticeably sparse.
Well I for one already loved Lain.

If you're going to remake something, why make it worse in every way than the original? Backgrounds were so bad they were distracting, character designs just seemed off, voice acting was somehow worse than average and then rushing everything into 3 episodes like that was awkward and just made 3 crappy episodes.

Omg I am fan boying over this so hard. I was on the RWBY hype train since the red trailer dropped and was totally in love with it. I remember how excited I was during the final act of volume 3... Dropped off after volume 5. The writing was always kinda sus, but I feel as I got older I really started to notice. Plus the lack of Monty Oum... Well this brought back all that nostalgia. I'm so excited for an original story with 2D anime style. I was barely into anime when this first dropped back in 2012-2013. Now I'm a full blown weeb.

It was odd for me at first. I knew it was Japanese, but was still surprised to hear Japanes coming out of Ruby's mouth. From what I can remember there are some slight differences. I am contemplating re-watching the original. The one thing I liked better, besides the overall animation artwork/style, is the music! I'm excited to see how it develops.

Pretty exciting premiere, it was fast paced but I pretty much got the idea what was happening. The characters seem likeable, specially Ruby and Weiss. They both seem like fun characters. Weiss and Ruby's fights were pretty neat. Excited for upcoming episodes and to see how the girls meet each other.

The fact that one would use a rapier against an armored oponent... yeah instant drop. Swords generally are bad agains armor but pther types of swords can be used especially against unprotected pieces of armor ... but that rapier which is more of an epee... is absurd... Also Grimm is about learning life lessons about evil in human society...

Can at least say I do like Huke's character design. Made the girls, especially Ruby look extra cute. Also the Black Rock Shooter insert.

Weiss' fight was okay, the visuals felt a bit weak. Maybe today's standards are just too high.

A bit disappointed in Blake's train scene. Her tossing her gun around while having it shoot looked stupidly silly, almost lazy.

Ruby's fight was definitely the highlight of the episode and clearly where most of the effort went.

Holy mother of god...the animation during Ruby's fight scene made my fucking jaw hit the floor. And that bass drop...my god, Monty would be crying tears of joy. Wow, SHAFT, JUST WOW! Please, please, you have to do the entire RWBY series. I'll never be satisfied thinking the what if!

Aside from the action scenes, everything is legit garbage. The action sequence was incredibly well done and I can't believe how fluid it was. The backgrounds were pretty crappy most of the time but it's not the worst. The opening is pretty good though.

I'm rewatching the TV version of the first 2 episodes and they definitely fixed the wonky, looking faces in some scenes from the pre-release version (the one bundled with 3 episodes), the TV version is better so you can definitely delete the pre-release version if that one is still on your PC.

Still, as the RWBY fan that I am, I'm still disappointed with these 3 episodes but whatever, let's see what episodes 4 and up will bring to the table.

I still remember friends of mine talking about RWBY a lot back when I was in middle school cuz that's the time I guess they used to show this on YouTube. Personally never got interested, though still for some reason my memory of that action sequence on building with the orange haired guy(I forgot the name) and Ruby somehow managed to remain intact this whole time lol.

Though still can't say this "anime" adaptation made any difference for me.. voices are a bit too cute now and most of all they speak japanese. Headtilts are there too, the all-original Shaft creation. I don't think I'll drop this, but still a bit skeptical.

Pretty interesting start, this. To be frankly honest, my reaction seeing the first few seconds being CGI wasn't the happiest, but after seeing that fight with the robbers, I'm convinced this is great, lol. Anyway, this is my first RWBY experience and I'm looking forward to seeing why this is still popular to this day.

Midway into the episode, I was convinced I wouldn't be able to get a thing lol but thankfully not. Got to say though, some of the transitions between the different parts felt choppy but it can't be helped, I suppose. Converging right in time for the Beacon Academy's orientation - if that does not call for a story to unfold, I don't know what could xD.

For the Headmaster to recruit Ruby himself though, that's quite something! Good for her, she'll now be able to spend more time with her sister and not have to live apart for a bit.

Void_Chords nailed it with the Op. Of course, I expected nothing less. And Shaft just doing Shaft things. Perfect!

The episode started well by "kinda" explaining the reason each member of Team RWBY is entering the academy, but the problem was that they focused on too much without explaining anything. The action and music was good but the fans of the original web series will roll their eyes at how certain scenes were made. A little meh start for the anime.
