MC battle sounds like serious business.

I think the idea of rap battles being in this show is neat especially with how energetic the anime is. Kabe in someone to keep an eye on this season, even though I think he is a bit weird compare to others. I see Kongming is still very confident in Eiko's abilities.

It's actually nice that Kongming's stratagems (which are now Eiko's teaching lessons) are actually base foundations within his time during the Three Kingdoms era. Appreciate the opening recaps.

Kongming is still trying to find Eiko's support rapper to bring to their bar, and Owner Kobayashi's Three Kingdoms rap IS FIRE. Well, they needn't look far to find their man, and this unassuming former champion freestyle rapper Kabetaijin got into a street battle rap with other rappers looking to take him down. Unfortunately, life took a toll for him to escape the world of rap, but it is ingrained in this Ordinary Joe even when he doesn't want to, one that idolizes his idol Sekitoba Kung Fu to follow his footsteps and achieve warranted fame, that with it came immense pressure with every win.

Kabe coincidentally meeting Kongming in the washing laundromat is believing it, as is seeing the real person with your own eyes to judge him as a weirdo wearing track clothes. Kongming babbling around his Three Kingdoms time, yet know fully of Kabe's inner troubles. Kongming's rap though, it's illusionary spiritual FIRE, one enough for Kabe to challenge him at their BB Lounge bar to win him to their side.

Bring the enemy to your base, and let him be enticed.
This rap is spiritually godly with burning fire.

I like how Kung Fu tried to bring into sense by rapping, then proceeded to spam text/call him into facing off.

Picking up the show mid-airing, and really looking forward to the rap battles.

The show has an incredible ability to keep itself off-beat and constantly throw out various surprises. Much like a good rapper can freely move their way through rhymes and wordplay, the anime as a whole seems quite able to flow between comedy and drama. From introspection immediately to Kongming at a laundromat? Love it!

Taijin's introduction actually serves as a pretty interesting glimpse at rap artists and how they can see / interact with the world. Since they're entire craft is the ability to weave language into whatever they need it to communicate, they freely associate rhymes with one another, even if the train of thought to get from point A to point B isn't necessarily the cleanest. They also can look for inspiration even in the most mundane of things. I remember an old "60 Minutes" interview with Eminem and how he looks at words less like words and more like collections of letters and syllables, hence why you can sometimes connect the dots lyrically even when the words don't necessarily relate to one another.

The scene where he also is furiously scribbling lyrics is a good look at how the artistic process sometimes is anything but glamorous - refusing numerous ideas, hitting brick walls, feeling like nothing that you come up with is good. There's also mustering the will to keep going. It's easy to get caught in the cycle of dejection. Not to mention the theme of mounting pressure, which is VERY real for anyone who has ever had to intensely focus on a performance or any other occasion where success was crucial.

It also makes sense that, in typical Kongming fashion, he gratifies himself to the person he's recruiting by playing up the things that they could be attracted to. With EIKO, he gave her the validation that her voice was worth hearing. With Taijin, he uses lyrical wordplay to let their conversation have staying power.

For now, we press onward.

I know that one street thug was going to beat up Kabe, but I must appreciate how he shouted exposition, explaining very well to his girlfriend, who they are.

Kongming rapping in an Adidas tracksuit, that's great.

Next episode I guess Kongming will appear with one of his medicines, from what I predict.

First a DJ, now a rapper. Kongming basically recited a Chinese poem in Japanese while rapping like a Sutra God. He has been dropping a lot of references lately and it would be funny if Eiko's entire crew ends up being Three Kingdom otakus except herself.

Slower episode today, a prelude to the next Epic Showdown. Wake up baby phoenix!

Lmaooo Kongming literally rapping circles around Taijin.

I really felt for Taijin this episode tho, he’d lost so much confidence, his physical and mental health situation.. was so cute when he opened that care package from his mom! He met Kongming at the perfect time and I’m sure this’ll turn things around for him. Can’t wait to see he and Eiko perform together.

Kabetaijin was winning battles at the cost of his own health.

Sekitoba Kung Fu whacking Mr. Exposition who kept interrupting his one-sided cipher against Kabetaijin had me laughing.

Was that a Brand Nubian album cover in Kabetaijin's apartment? That's deep Hip-Hop knowledge.

Kongming literally runs circles around Kabetaijin with a Sutra-style rap to convince him. I predict Kongming's prize for battling him is a cure for his ulcer like he did with the throat medicine for Eiko's rival at rhe fesetival.

The ED was updated to have Kabetaijin rapping!

So this episode was dedicated to Kabetaijin who's a talented rapper that has confidence and health issues that prevents him from competing in rap battles. Another battle rapper Sekitoba Kung Fu wants to challenge him to another rap battle, but Kabetaijin refuses. Ya Boy Kongming was waiting for Kabetajin at the laundry mat and dropped his own Sutra rap to challenge Kabetajin to a rap battle. If Kongming wins, Kabetaijin has no choice but to team up with Eiko. If Kabetajin wins, then Kongming will grant him one wish. Either way its a win win for Kongming and I can't wait to see the rap battle next week.

Kongming also mentioned how he rode Sekitoba without Guan Yu's permission. I wonder if he was referring to Guan Yu's Red Hare from the Dynasty Warriors games? If so that would explain why Sekitoba was wearing a red jacket with Guan Yu on the back.

Not really feeling Kabe's character so far. Well, at least his introduction and background were somewhat solid.

Overall, not the strongest episode but still a pretty decent one. Kinda wish Sekitoba was the rapper Kongming was looking for tho.

Yup, 96neko is an utaite :D I'm glad they went for a different singing voice rather than the voice actress singing. It's similar to how they have a different singing voice for Carole & Tuesday characters. Another character who has yet to be introduced will also have a different singing voice (She just debuted).

Fun episode :) I'm not a fan of freestyle/rapping without music, so I'm looking forward to next episode where hopefully it there will be some accompaniment in the competition.

Kabetaijin's backstory though :( The fame got too much for him, which is understandable. Interested to see him become part of the theme!

Chad Shouya Chiba himself singing and rapping, now I kinda wanna see Shinei Nouzen sing or rap lmao.

Great episode! Nice introduction to our rapper boy with an ulcer Kabetaijin. Those energy drinks while staying up late definitely also had a contribution to his ulcer.

Holy drip, we're not worthy of tracksuit Kongming's presence. Didn't expect to hear Kongming rap lmao, but I need m o r e.

There was a severe lack of Eiko this episode though. This was pretty much a set-up episode, Kongming's laundry rap was just a teaser, next episode will be where the fun begins and I can't wait.

Kabe Taijin introduced. Kong Ming really set an eye to those young soul with a problematic health issue on the run, but also got quite a talent to the rap thingy. I thought Koumei might be first offered to help him get rid of his stomach problem with every knowledge of traditional medical treatment Koumei had, like what he did with the rocker singer. However, looks like Koumei use such an aggresive move to persuade Kabe to comes with that amusing rap rhyme that surely attract Kabe straight to the guts. Then he might doing it again by using Eiko on the BB lounge, as a bait to set those young poor soul to help. As ridiculous as its sound, i think Koumei might be doing it, for the success of his master with the big event in the front. Wake up, baby phoenix, he said xd....

I might not be a big fan of most rapping in general, but I do respect how much effort that goes into the lyrics and rhyming, so I was very interested into the focus of Kabe's life as a rapper in this episode.

He's got natural talent for it, although he got into a place where the pressure kept on pushing him, more and more, until he hit his breaking point after his countless wins by collapsing on stage with a stomach ulcer. I don't blame him for trying to leave rapping as a whole, although at times it does look like he's simply running away without a solution in mind that's causing him more harm than good.

However, his trip to the laundromat had him encounter Kongming.........in a tracksuit. It made me burst out laughing for a second! XD

Anyways, his encounter with Kongming was what he really needed. Kongming's sutra-style rap was rather entertaining to watch in terms of visuals and it was enough to convince Kabe to visit BB lounge on a rap night. Kongming's plans is coming into fruition once again and I highly look forward to the next episode to see what'll happen next.

Also, the ED song has been updated with the addition of Kabe rapping and also appearing next to Eiko in chibi form. I'm loving the ED song even more than before now! =)
