I went to watch this movie in TOHO Cinema Midorii (one of Hiroshima's theaters).

Beautiful and sorrowful content. I loved a trio's interaction. Especially Tomoya. He is sensitive.
Tomoya and Ayane's relationship is surreal but they shared one summer's memories in the end. Tomoya found the meaning of life.
Although it was very short, I enjoyed it. I can expect to loundraw's next work. His artwork and imagination are simply wonderful.

Never thought I would be able to watch this in my country's theater, so here are my thoughts.

The exceptional art style, surprisingly satisfying main theme OST, but the only problem is that the movie is way too short. Overall 6/10, if it was longer, it could reach my criteria of giving a score of 8.

Anyhow, it's good enough that I can expect from Loundraw's next work. Now that the potential is realized, by giving his team more time and budget, I believe his next work will be awesome.

This was so amazing. Made me glad I didn’t listen to others and chased my dreams.
Cried at the part where that kid said, why was I even born?
I recommend this to everyone, it was so meaningful.

This was otherwise good but my biggest question is why did they leave that broach (or whatever it's called) for her mother, didn't they report and hand over the body to the police so the mother could get a closure after knowing her daughter was dead? I guess they would have got into trouble for entering an enclosed zone if they went to the police but what did they do with the body!? I wish this could have been longer.

Hmm, I believe it was Ayane herself that left that broach. It probably was symbolic, to show that Ayane has finally passed on.

She is a ghost so she can't touch physical objects, at least that's what the manga adaptation states.

Ok, uff......
It got me emotional at the end. Overall it was 8/10 for me. Character Designs are good. Story was unique. Music was good. Only main problem I felt in this movie is Runtime. This movie deserves to be a full 1-2 hour movie. Development was fast. Still they managed to put everything together in this 40 min short film. Overall Very good experience. I am gonna watch it again. Basically, this movie is not for everyone. Very Nice Concept. At the end Nice and beautiful movie....

Story is pretty good conceptually but suffers from rushed plot progression due to only having a 40 minute runtime. However, the animation, sound and character designs were top notch. The use of lighting to reflect the mood was done very well . A 9/10 from me

WOW that was well worth the wait. Looked very pretty and loundraw's style is unique and easy on the eyes. Soundtrack didn't stand out much but it did the job. Biggest downside was definitely the 40min runtime - 15-20 minutes more to focus on tomoya, aoi, and ryou and it would've been golden. The ending was a huge gutpunch. Super sad but executed well.

What a meaningful 39-minute of my life was that. Watching this is like meditating and through the show you can see the value of life. It makes you think some things like is death really not that bad at all. The Ost's been great too. Also liked the artstyle, it reminds me of Sonny boy. The short film really conveyed the message. Huge clap

This movie is one of the interesting ones, also the visual definitely carries a lot than the animation which could've been better in terms of the character design because it's not that fluid at most times.

So the 3 people went on a ghost adventure and I like how each and every characters got their own mini backstory, and one of the strange thing is that I can relate to Aoi's situation the most amongst the rest and feels like it's relieving that something about her case which is similar to mine is shown here, I love how it's a boy student who is saving her, shows how much different people cares about each other while the rest, Tomoya and Ryou, do have their own strength in their past life and they're mostly skillful in their hobbies and academics that I think it involves a lot of preserverence so their background is a one trick pony to be achieve by anyone who lacks those skills.

But to be frank, I also understand Tomoya's struggle the most when it comes to improving in a certain field of subject can be struggling too. Not gonna lie this Ayane ghost is somewhat scaring me, she's like a person who'll stand by you before your death wish come true. Also the moment when Ayane carried Tomoya's ghost was almost like a pleasure ngl, I kind of teared up a bit when he became a ghost, it's like you're free from all the pain that you have went through ;_; which implies the same to Aoi and Ryou if they turned into a ghost, in which I do think the movie could've dive in more expanded with their own perspective because I think each and everyone who wants the last of it is a pretty prominent aspect of the story in this movie, but whatever comes, it's still a bounce back for the movie to interchange the segment between Aoi and Ryou and also parts where Tomoya and Ayane is finding the ghost.

"Why is this world so unfair" man that phrase hits deep from Ryou, completely this is what I love about the movie, it's getting rid off our insecurity, struggles, etc, and everything can be stopped in whatever the justification. Ryou's death in the end made my heart broken little by little but at the end of the day, Tomoya and Aoi have to make their step back to their own life.

7.5/10

overall it was ok, one thing i want to say is just, i felt ayane's mother didnt really get a conclusion, you just left her hanging, i mean, all you left was the brooch and she havent seem to given up totally about ayane coming back home........
calling the police would definitely make you get interviewed and shit but i dont think you can get charged with the murder right (?)
and even if its a garbage dump, people would come to check from time to time, you can just leave the suitcase and let someone discover it ig (?)

This was surprisingly good, not gonna lie. I didn't even know it had come out until recently and yet I got emotional from the journey, a short but effective one.

Good and realstic characterization was the highlight for me. You can really empathise with what each character's going through. Real life struggles can often lead you to have very dark thoughts, I know they have for me at least, and the movie knows that. Yet, instead of brushing them off, it puts each of their situation into perspective. Life may be unfair but we still have one at the very least to do what we can.

The presentation doesn't slack off in the slightest. So many well drawn backgrounds and various camera angles. The characters themselves might look somewhat brushed but their style is decent enough. The soundtrack also fits each scene with delicacy while immersing you in the mood of the situation. Even if none of the tracks stood out, I got different sensations from them including comfort, melancholy, upliftness, loneliness and so on.

Overall, if you have 40 minutes to spare, I'd say you should check it out. I wish it had been a bit longer to flesh out the characters more, but the product doesn't suffer much from it as a result.

It was bad, didn't liked any of the characters and story was nothing new just a mixture of different things and handled everything in very unnatural way and some decisions were rather quick or just senseless...
It felt like writer was desperately trying to make it meaningful, rather than actually making it interesting and enjoying for viewers ,I know it's just a short film and writer should also keep this thing in mind that if you are making short film then don't fill them with a lot of things just to make it look like meaningful instead try to make it entertaining with less number of themes, it was surely the weakest summer based story I had watched but yeah visual and background were good and music was also good I guess...

Meh

Thank god it was only a 40min movie, I wouldn't had been able to withstand so much pretentiousness for a full 90 min movie.

It reminded me of early Shinkai projects, all made in his own studio and his personal computer with freshmen VAs. Everything from the screenplay to the clunky animation just yells homemade.

The three main characters are rather flat and their encounter is just weird not to mention contrived. The message of youth, bullying and contemplating suicide feels very superficial, it's not poignant nor elaborated like in A Silent Voice, it's very blunt, one minute they are depressed and the next everything will be daijobu because they helped a ghost to move on. And what the heck was all that about leaving Ayane's brooch on her mom's home entrance? The whole point about finding her body was to give closure to her mom.

The only positive things I liked about this movie was the cinematography that as I mentioned mimics Shinkai's early works and the music.

I did like the movie, but not something amazing, unfortunately... (IMO)

Suitcase scene was the most ODD part. First, opening it to make sure the body (in this case, bones and clothes) was IMO weird and pretty stupid too. Why would you open the damn thing??? MC is planning on reporting this to the authorities, right? Otherwise how will the ghost's mother know? First, MC trespasses, digs ground in a supposedly random place (with bare hands!), and touches the evidence of the crime. Yikes... want to end up in jail bud???

Didn't like how mother found the necklace and that was the end of her story. Was the body reported to the police or not after all? This scene has no indication that mother will no longer look for her missing daughter - only the opposite!!! So, wtf?

In the end I kind of forgot that this one guy wasn't supposed to live for another year (for a moment I even assumed that he didn't die from illness) and then the revelation with the fireworks hit...

Amateurish plot, art and animation IMO. 7.5/10

It was okay...I guess.

First and foremost, I think that this movie would've benefited from another 10 minutes or so, since it didn't really have a beginning. And then add another 20 minutes so that the two other main characters that are not Tomoya could be better developed.

Also Ayane's mother deserved better. We should've had a scene of the police telling her about her daughter (as opposed to the brooch thing, I mean what was that). The way it happened in the movie, we don't even know if Tomoya and the others even reported the body, so how can we know if Ayane's mom got the closure she needed.

However, on the more positive side, I really liked Tomoya's story. Him suppressing his own wishes in order to make his mother happy felt very relatable. So it was very satisfying to see him start to embrace his own passion in the end.

And the final scene with the three truly elevated the movie for me. Discovering that Ryou is actually dead was a real gut punch. But I think it was needed since it made the anti-suicide message feel more real. The movie doesn't say 'live and then everything will magically become better', instead it says 'live the best you can, even when it's hard, so that you can die without regrets when your time comes'.

Overall I'd give it a 6.5/10.

Really liked this movie's themes and the way it tackled them.

The choices in visuals and audio (such as the phone call and it impacting which earphone it came out of) were really stellar.

The only complaints I have were the resolution and pacing, but the message it portrayed was great enough to gloss over it (IMO).

I like it, since it talks about Life and Death, which is interesting. There are like disturbing scene especially the corpse finding, and sad scenes which are the goodbye scenes. Although I know Ryou is going to die, the last scene caught me off guard, I didn't think Ryou was already dead at that scene. Overall a good watch, it's simple and I like it.

Was a very nice watch. Obviously an extra half an hour would be nice but they did well with the small amount of time. There obviously wasn’t enough time to flesh out the characters and that meant it didn’t hit as hard when it was revealed that Ryou died, but it still was much more impactful than many movies/tv series cos it was handled in such a great way. Also each of their problems were cliched, but I think the fact that it wasn’t expanded on helped, cos it showed that their circumstances weren’t that important, rather the main focus was on moving past those obstacles. I wonder if ayane and tomoya were just friends or actually loved each other.

A nice and impactful watch - 8/10
Will look forward to loundraw’s future works

apart from the visuals i felt like the way the story was structured was pretty weird, i get they wanted to have the message in the end but most of the time it just felt too overly dramatic and the placement on the conflict between the characters was just not it. The ending was bittersweet and i enjoyed i despite the fact.

It was short but simply amazing and unexpectedly satisfying.

Frankly speaking, I did not expect anything spectacular considering that the movie only spans for about 39 minutes. I was under the impression that it might be below average at best due to the limited time.

But what a pleasant surprise! I never imagined that they could compress the story of death and living in a creative and interesting manner. Moreover, there are plenty of interesting and thought provoking dialogues that really hits home.

The end part even almost made me teared up when I realized what happened with Ryou. But overall, it still made me feel satisfied with how things turned out.

All I can say is that I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and can't stop praising how the story unfold exquisitely and concisely despite the short time frame.

What a gorgeous film. I'm a sucker for life-affirming stories, and this is among the best of them, with some of the best artwork you'll find in all of anime. Communicates more in 40 minutes than most shows do with a runtime of 20+ episodes. Incredible.

This was good. But too short, would have worked much better in movie length (so that it could give bit more content and characterisation the character's live instead of just painting a vague picture of their life problems). Ayane's mother ending did not work at all tbh. Leaving the pendent was accidentally giving a more hopeful gesture of her return from mother's perspective which is opposite of what this movie should have done. I was expecting some sirens.

Regardless, I enjoyed it 7/10

wish this was longer!! i enjoyed it though. i kinda hope (and would assume) that someone reported ayane's death to her mom. putting the necklace on the doorstep without any context comes off as a sick joke.

when they came back to the present (the summer after meeting ayane), i thought that ryou was still alive and i literally said "see he DID live". bruh

got some weird deja vu watching this because i feel like i've watched a piece of media where a ghost leads some people to the place where their body was buried and the people dig up the body so the ghost can move on. this is gonna bother me now

Very pretty anime! The pastel colors are very eye pleasing. It felt like i was plopped in to the middle of the story tho. I am sad that the ghost did not actually have a good ending.l :( I was also worried that the girl would drag him to suicide but I am glad its not like that and that shes a good ghost/person. I am sad we didn't get ending of more of closure of Ayane's mom. I am also very sad over the other boys death :(.

The perfect example of short but effective. I really didn't know what to expect going in blind. "Summer Ghost, just another fantasy I guess" just to find myself bawling at the end. Kids who have contemplated death or that were in a near-death situation were trying to find answers by meeting the ghost of a girl who was rumored to have killed herself, but what ended up saving them is their meeting... They didn't really know much about each other, but they learned to sympathize and muster up the courage and mental strength to continue with life. Even Ryou managed to fight cancer and see one last cherry blossom before he rested. I really appreciated this movie, in a way, it's trying to show that there's always something worse that could happen and that our approach can be changed to ease some of our worries or problems. Great movie.
