Hmm, a lot of buildup went into this episode. Really though, Joe looks like he's in a great shape and from the brief moments of fighting in that ring, he looks more skilled than ever.

Joe's fighting style also takes on a more brawling approach with a strong offensive attack. I'm kinda impressed. Oh Sachio..what an emotional episode for him as well.

The fight of a lifetime is about to begin: the BES chip-controlled Mac vs. the returning Megalonia legend "Gearless" Joe.

As expected, Yukiko's own investigation into Sakuma and the partnership with ROSCO, it's a 50-50 ordeal of going against the deal within a business standpoint. For now, they can only await results.

The formal introduction between Mac's family and Joe, and the look of a champion of a long time passed by. The old promises made with Nanbu welding a fire within his soul that his time isn't over, and not by running away from his problems, plus with Chief's influences, it's time to fight back and reclaim what was lost.

About time we see the relationship between Liu and Yuri, and the reason for Megalo-boxing in the timeskip. Even if Sachio still couldn't give Joe the recognition of the day for Megalo-boxing, setting it with an internal boxing match is the only way to go to show their progress. Joe clearly still has his skills, while Sachio continues to pin Joe down by mere words, a selfishly realized dream through self-protection.

It's time to return home...as a former family, and face the troubles ahead.

The challenge that everyone was waiting for is finally here. Everyone's just waiting for Joe's response. Mac vs. Joe is the talk of the town right now and stakes are super high for the legend Joe.

Sachio once again being a total brat. He needs to finally understand it and he did, just the hard way fighting Joe in the ring. He needs to stop blaming himself for all that's happened. That hug was precious. Time to go home, Sachio. On the other hand, Liu is trying to convince Yuri to help Joe in preparing for the fight with Mac.

Joe collapsed on the cliffhanger. We'll have to see what's with that.

Joe has gotten his official offer to fight Mac. If that actually happens it would be a slugfest for the ages. Just as said at the beginning of the episode its the ultimate battle of the old age vs the new age. Things don't look that favorable for Joe right now though, those headaches he had at the start of this season coming back now of all times. Sachio facing Joe in the ring was hard to watch, just wanted them to reconcile asap which thankfully did happen. Their hug in the ring so wholesome, forgiveness all around now that Joe and Sachio both realize how similar they are and how much they mean to each other. The conversation between Liu and Yuri was well done, it's good that they understand each other better now. I hope that Joe will be ok and can fight Mac.

It's crazy good, even if the fight in this episode is minimal, the damage is real. Joe is not looking good, he's not preparing to fight in MegaloBox, let alone fight with the new champion who's enhanced with BES chip. But this is how Joe live, and how he'll always be. It's also the cost of being a legend, he can't turn down the offer from up and coming champion. The match will probably not start until episode 12 at the earliest, but it'll be a very heavy punch for sure.

I really want to announce it as anime of the season, but this seaon has another strong contender which is Odd Taxi. So I'll have to wait and see if Odd Taxi can win based on its superhuman intelligence alone.

Most likely a relapse of his 5 years of drug abuse. His illness isn't going away so easily as expected.

Is good that Yukiko have a great person by her side, when she needs.

Is good to know that wont happen an "accident" to Mikio, and he making Tomoka take a step back, was good.

Liu and Yuri for some reason felt so hot-blooded.Even with the calm tone.

And once more Joe did nothing wrong, visiting Nambu just before the fight. Not needing The Great Owner of Truth Sachio to see.

Aaaaaand we are back to curing drug addiction.

I'm glad that Sachio and Joe were able to make up.
Joe collapsing at the end of the episode probably means that he hasn't yet fully recovered from the damage his past drug consumption caused him.
I hope that won't get in his way on preparing for the match against Mac.

first half was pretty avg with almost nothing happening and i was getting pissed that Joe hadn't had a single actual fight thru out 80% of this season.. but the later half of Sachio and Joe fight made me a bit relieved..
still angry that the last fight is getting too much preparation.. it better be a 2 whole 12-13 episode filled fight.. and actually live up to all the hype..
.
Also.. at least Sachio arc is out of the way... its time for ACTUAL PLOT!

Joe and Sachio made up by settling it in the ring, but Joe's illness due to drug abuse starts to wring its ugly head again as he collapses to the floor. I wonder if Joe will be able to do the match with Mac in his condition?

Joe's skepticism is to be expected, but I'm glad he's going to fight a big baddie again. I'm looking forward to a good end of season bout between Joe and Mac.

I also have no idea what Sachio thought was going to happen... but I'm glad he got beat up a bit. He needed to calm down.

And, just when everything seems to be lining up... man, what even? All I can think of right now is maybe the drugs and alcohol from before rearing their ugly heads. Chief did mention that he wouldn't suggest mixing the two. So maybe there is more lingering damage than Joe realized, even after going clean.

So things are finally gearing up towards the ending, as Joe feels the call of destiny with Mac, who resembles Chief in lots of ways.

I have sense of foreboding about the cliffhanger ending, especially more so because this series is supposed to be a spiritual successor of the famous work, Ashita no Joe.

No, it's not from the drugs. He was using drugs to stave off the damage to his body from boxing.

I don't think he collapsed because of permanent damages caused from drugs; Joe stopped having any episodes long ago so I don't think he would fall back now that he's clean and in a better shape.
It has to be some damage caused by megaloboxing.

Damn, who would have thought Mikio would be this different after being defeated by Joe?

Anyways, it was being about damn time for Sachio to finally realize how illogical his hatred towards Joe has been. Seriously, each new flashback was making him look worse and worse so I'm somewhat glad the brat could finally return to his senses. Such a shame it had to be with him getting his ass kicked but well.

Another fantastic episode! Yukiko's secretary is nice, it's a small moment but, her secretary inviting her to grab a bite to eat was sweet. That whole conversation with Mikio and the Rosco Secretary was interesting as well, I hope she does the right thing.

Man, to think I thought Liu was gonna be an asshole-ish character at the beginning. Was I proven wrong, he's such a great character as well. If ever he does recover, the future of Megalo Boxing is in safe hands. Mac does remind me of Chief a bit, they both even talked about how Joe showed them dreams, gonna be a good fight.

And we finally have Sachio getting over the past, he'll never be Joe, that's why he should focus on what he's actually good at, which is engineering. That hug at the end of the match was fantastic. Respect to Fujimaki as well. This episode was full of really fucking great character moments. But, that ending though, is that like some late effects of all the drug use, damn. I hope this doesn't end with Joe dying, I hope it ends with Joe living a peaceful life with the kids. Really looking forward to the next episode.

I knew them 5 years of punishing himself would catch up with him. But knowing Joe he going to push through it. Hopefully this is going to be his last fight. But he probably will have the same fate as Rocky, which is fitting because of Joe's fighting style.

A really heart breaking episode. To see yuri's protege want yuri to be my Joes side is sad to see. Then Joe fights sachio and finally gets him to see the light but collapses!?!? I'm thinking it could be after effects of all the pain killers he was taking. Hopefully he recovers well enough to beat mac in the ring. I like Mac and all but he's not a main character lol

I loved this episode for being full of little character moments that showed us a bit more depth than what we might expect from the supporting cast. Yukiko and her secretary, Mikio and his former student now Rosco Employee, and even Fujimaki with his little nod towards Nanbu. These were little moments but they showed that the characters aren't quite black and white, there is some humanity behind their actions or decisions.

Can't forget Liu as well. I loved how he took full accountability for being where he is now and how he doesnt have any regrets because it was a path he wanted to follow, choices that he made in earnest. Liu is a big surprise because as some of us have already mentioned when he first appeared there was the assumption that he would be an asshole or at least someone with a big ego, in reality though he has turned out to be pretty cool in his own right. I reckon him and Joe match with each other perfectly, and if everything goes well could be great friends in the future.

Going forward im worried (given how the episode ended), but my theory is that when Joe faces mac he will be wearing Chief's gear to aid him in the match. He's no longer trying to prove anything to anyone or fight for anyone other than himself, and given his shift in values i think itd be awesome to carry chief emblem into battle alongside him. He'll no longer be 'Gearless Joe', he'll enter the ring simply as 'Joe', a man fighting with his heart and guided by the hope of simply being able to return home to the people he loves and respects. This is my hope anyway, i hope the fight ends on a happy note

This is getting way more political/ economical than I expected from a series called Megalo Box. But I like it.
And Sacchio definitely deserved any of those punches for treating Joe the way he did. But I'm still happy they can be finally a family again.

Damn, Sachio drama finally got the climax and the end is closer.

The thing is this right?

The chip in brain is turning Mac into a robot who just fights with 100% muscle power and stuff like speed and reflects and because of that the body will hit its limit and die, also making it kinda unfair in a fight.

Also, when Mac appeared I thought he was Chief, as if they took his body and put the chip to turn him into a zombie, the family was a brainwhased one or something like that, or since the boy has a scar in his chest maybe the mom accepted a deal to pretend to be his family. The colibri references and his pose before the fight were pretty wild.

When the CEO appeared, this Sakuma guy, I felt the Kisaki Tetta vibes, and I was damn right, such a manipulative yaro

The soundtrack slapped like it has all season.
After this episode its basically confirmed for me. If Joe fight Mac he will die.
And I am guessing that his death will be enough to make Rosco get looked into, and Mac will have to face the truth. That he isn't himself anymore.

We finally get to hear the real reason as to why Joe took the match against Liu in the past, why he left, and how Sachio felt guilty about driving Joe away (and basically that caused him to resent Joe for listening to him), and wanted to take Joe's place. The show does such a great job portraying how complicated people are and their relationships.

Well said! I was going to mention some of these things as well, but you already did it ^^ Liu especially. He must still be devastated about his current situation, but he said with full confidence that it's no one's fault because everything that happened was due to his own decisions. I love his outlook that he has full control of his life and that he doesn't blame anyone. What a respectful person.

So Joe is taking up the fight against Mac, and hey what a nice meetup they have. And before we got that fight, we get the match between him and Sachio...which yeah.

Is it just me, or did Liu sounds so much like a Shounen Jump protagonist for a second there. So that's the reason how he enlisted Yuri's help for his career.

And uh oh, Joe's headache has returned. I thought that will be long gone by now, WHAT HAPPENED. Such a cliffhanger that was, this might make the upcoming fight more interesting.

Atleast in this episode, Sachio has now realized it (finally) and reunites with Joe, although that execution was a bit stale in my eyes.

Mac reminds Joe of Chief. Well, they're kinda the same. The hummingbird, nomad etc.. everything is the same. But it's time for Joe now, to fight and get back on his own feet. Will he able to win? Yuri doesn't think so but Joe is still going for it. 3 episodes left for the second season. Last 2 might be action packed with Joe.
Joe is down again after he gets back with him.
