THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Mm, a follow up episode from events of the previous one.
Looks like Touta meets a ghost girl this episode

Touta's fight in the arena against his opponent at the Martial Arts Tournament was strange. It felt like Touta couldn't control the pace of his fight or his powers to full extent. Either that or his opponent was just better.

Looks like more of Negi's comrades showed up :o

That's because it is rushed. They're cramming 140 chapters into 12 episodes while changing the plot significantly.

They don't rushed, they jumped chapter 43 to 128 ( i am not wrong) holy fuck, welp still better than the anime of negima.
The funny fact is that they excluded the character that would appear in the next arc of the story, and because of that they also eliminated Albireo Imma who would fight him in this battle (a good character, by the way, a pity) to stay fair.

Much better than the previous episode... however the amount of rushing that it feels for me its pretty much a lot still, but it was... eh I guess. At this point I don't really know what to say. And its a shame because I was indeed enjoying UQ Holder. Oh well I guess.

Haven't read the manga.

But I'm glad we're jumping to the plot as soon as possible. I have some miniscule hope that there's battles on the scale of the arcs of Negima that were never animated. (disappointment ensues)

Even as a manga reader, the manga side is ACTUALLY well-thought through.

The anime side however, being pretty linear UNTIL this episode feels very rushed, and I've gotta agree that the ending will somehow be botched because of the 1 cour adaptation and not the usual 2 cour that is standard with Negima.

Feels like you read a book's beginning and ending without the progression in the middle, and that's a shame.

What a rushed and awful episode. I even have no idea to said how bad this episode (And the whole anime) is. 2/5

Where the fuck is Alberio? And the art and animation............ I will rather have this adaptation never exist instead of having this abomination.

lucio54 said:

Yeah this is a very sad fact, no matter how bad and rushed this anime is it's still way better and way more faithfully than every anime adaptation of Akamatsu's works (If we don't include the Negima OVAs).

@Stark700
Either that or his opponent was just better.

Cutlass is way better.
And she could kill Tota with Negis's sword but didn't want to...this time.
But I agree - horrible tournament. In the manga the things are very different.

@blahrgness
But I'm glad we're jumping to the plot as soon as possible.

They are skipping a lot of important plot points like Dana's involvement in all this.

I have some miniscule hope that there's battles on the scale of the arcs of Negima that were never animated.

Well, they skipped great battles also the real pre-tournament arc.
Negi's team is kind of reduced and Tota lacks essential training from the manga. Eventually this battle will be drastically shortened too.

Oh. I missed the part in the last episode where Evangeline told Touta that he's his grandfather's clone. That his so-called parents never existed.

Who the hell is this Mage of the Beginning and why is Touta still calling her his grandfather even though she's just an imposter? Lmao.

This episode made me want to watch its prequel. Ugh. I wanna know more about Negi Springfield.

The person we see here is actually Negi Springfield but he is possessed by the Mage of the Beginning.
I think we will see her human and after that her true from in the upcoming battle.
She is the big villain - here and on Negima.

This episode made me want to watch its prequel.

Only the manga is recommended. The TV series are horrible. (Xebec's - bad animation + bad adaption, Shaft's only uses the characters)
The Movie is some form of alternative ending also really boring.

You can watch Shaft's OVA's just for the taste of it - faithful but partial adaption.

and for the info

They said all those things (except for the upcoming forms of the Mage of the Beginning) in the anime but maybe it was too fast and unclear (only a hint what the sword will do to Tota) for the non manga watchers.

Honestly? This is ridiculous! Whole 'plot' is just one fucking asspull!

I don't care they are showing all the old Negi's classmates (even though they really feels as randoms here) but the fight between those two factions just reeks of bad writing.

You want some good story and character developement? Certainly not in this series.

Grrr wtf... It definitely seems that Negiverse is cursed to forever have anime adaptions that fuck with everything... This ordering of events is weird to say the least.

Touta didn't give a damn about the tournament or getting stronger. He was just told that it's a shortcut up the tower for the poor.

Touta's supposed to be an unknown. Why's Lazlo beat up and why is Mana with him?
Where's my Negima chars silhouette hype like the manga!?

The fact that they're immortal and all that shit is supposed to be undercover, immortals aren't permitted in the tournament iirc. The fight with Cutlass is supposed to happen out in the slum area.

They utterly ruined this encounter, as it's supposed to happen during a big awesome race with a whole ton of time shit. The original altercation happened after SO MUCH character building and figuring out how to do things. This altercation with Negi and the rest in the manga is really shown how absurdly outmatched they all are. They can only barely manage to distract and delay for mere seconds on each char... Especially Rakan. Let me clarify, Rakan is a broken unbeatable character who can literally flex his way out of an impossible bind, he's on the level of Saitama (OPM).

This whole change of events is bizarre and broken to say the least. I was tolerant of the changes up until now, but they broke some of the best parts of the manga.

This has really triggered me. 1/5

Edit: Where's Santa, and his whole arc? It's fucking important shit relating to the nature of Ialda.

Negima and UQ were never good in the first place.Maybe the fandom can't admit that.

But I'm having fun, old harem members vs new ones.At least UQ does try to be its own thing and keeps the basic elements.

I assume you never read the manga before, yeah the manga have it's flaws but it's still WAY better than every Negima and UQH anime combined, at least the manga have a lot of good and best moments unlike the anime.

Akamatsu and the anime staff team skipped the whole Sayako arc because the story has nothing to do with Negima. Noticed how the anime only stick with Negima staffs?

To be fair, even the audiences screens in this episode are awful and laughable as the audiences didn't even moving and having their mouth move other than the voices, they look like a background image more than a actual humans cheering in those screens.

Well along with the other OVAs and a Panchinko game, those are only exception and it's completely followed the manga story, I also like Mou Hitotsu no Sekai OVA for being faithfully adapted from the manga and able to see some best moments being animated (I actually like how they animated Eternal Negi Fever screen lol).

Episode 10 is a big smack of "WTF HAPPENED?!" .
I mean, like what happened to my man santa. SANTA WASN'T EVEN INTRODUCED. At least they show afro man yet i was pissed off cuz they skipped his character development , he was so kind he doesn't deserved this. Like bruh the only reason tota got in the tournament was because of afro man not because of some coincidence shown in the anime.

The TRAINING!! They missed the fucking training with the noble, i mean why?. This where it got a lot spicy where development was put into place into tota, kuromaru and the struggles evangeline got into. The anime show shouldn't even have the genre shounen labeled on it.

The studio tries to cram 140+ chapters in to 12 episodes where it clearly doesn't work. So for anyone who wants to have a better well paced story of uq holder, read the manga, it's healthy for u.

well, ep 10 was interesting.

Mana! she appeared yay!
I wonder if everyone forgot that Mana is half puerto rican?

Cutlas showed up? I thought she wouldn't. Still her inferiority complex is right there. Calling Touta useless when she is the actual failure clone. Though her genes takes more on asuna.

Negi shows up? The staff changed the story chronology again! Negi is not supposed to show up until the hoverbike race!

Age of original Negima girls is all over the place. I get why Eva, Chachamaru and Sayo look like they do. But others are human.

* Ayaka is old and have grandchildren.
* Mana is adult woman.
* Nodoka and Yue looks like no time passed at all.

1. Ayaka is still alive because she wanted to see Asuna for one more last time before her death.
2. Mana is a half demon, not a human.
3. This one is kinda spoiler-ish.... but apparently Nodoka and Yue stopped aging after having a contract with Negi.

A question like this is giving more reason as why Negima! (And UQ Holder!) anime needs a anime remake that follows manga stories closely rather than having fillers for over 10 years.

Poor Sayo, still stuck to that place. I really thought she was only around because of the dean that loved her back in S1. I was thinking she'd passed on once he dies as well.

I really thought that was Ku Fei. She has the same hair and skin color, just a different eye color.

It's Nodoka and Yue! what happened to them? why did they remain young after all this time?

Man, this reminds me of Rance X and I'm excited to play it soon. A former great hero, now a villain due to being possessed. That kind of plotline always intrigues me.
