THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- These last few episodes have kept me glued to my chair. They are really doing a great job taking what was in the manga and turning it into this. For a moment there I though that Inuyasha and Kagome were going to kiss, I was hoping that the anime would bring something different, but it was disappointing. LOL Just as like in the manga, I hated Sango when she was willing to sacrifice Rin to save Miroku, I almost wished Sesshomoru had killed her. |

Sango deserves to die for even attempting to harm Rin, no excuses! For some reason, I think it would be better if it was to kill Kohaku, but them it wouldn't tie into Sesshomaru then I guess... |

Awesome ep!! :D Can't wait for the next one! O: Why are you people trying to kill Sango off?! Even though she DID try to kill Rin, for me, she's the most human character of all! I mean, we all make mistakes, and she was brave enough to face hers and suffer the consequences. She's an awesome character and does not deserve to die! >.< |

Me too, she was extremely rushed and impulsive, she doesn't think only works, If she had been Kagome she would not have made that mistake. However, Sesshoumaru forgave her, maybe because she is brave, strong and sincere or now he understands the human feelings or because of Kohaku. I only admire the way that she face to Sesshoumaru. |

Let me think... I guess that the Naraku battle ends in two or three eps., then "Kagome vs. Shikon no Kakera" is last two or one ep. Basically if their priority is Naraku battle, then the latter part would be just one ep. As for Sango, I think she admits what she did wrong and able to face the punishment from Sesshoumaru. That's a good thing, even though what she was about to do before Kagome's arrow hit Naraku was wrong. |

Well, i didnt like to see Sango trying to kill Rin, but let´s face it, she´s human, i guess that we all would probably do the same in her situation: having your worst enemy in front of you threatning to kill the person you love, it makes you wanna kill him no matter what. it wasnt a easy choice to Sango. I didnt like her choice, because it was selfish, but still it was very human!its not a reason to hate. That´s why i also cant understand why people keep spreading hate for Kikyo too, when all she did in all damn anime was to try to find a way to kill naraku and purify the jewel , which basically would save everyone´s lifes, and she would have done it if her body wasnt made of soil, or even after her death, she would kill him, but instead she prefered to save Kohaku. Next ep. i think its the goodbye to Naraku:D and if they follow the manga, we´ll have another Kikyo flashback:D |

Miroku needs to be tied down :/ Seriously. Stop using your Wind Tunnel..or trying to. &Sango wasted her breath talking to Sesshomaru. She still thinks he's going to kill her? To be honest, I don't think he really gives a fuck about all the crap she just said to him about killing her. Probably be a good waste of his time killing her. Not to mention it'd be a pain in his ass to have the other guys hating him. He doesn't need that. |

Naraku. Needs. Clothes. Liked the moment between Inuyasha and Kagome of course. It's kind of... SERIOUSLY irritating that Naraku has shown them illusions billions of times before and they still never consider the possibility that whatever's in front of them is an illusion even after all of their past experiences. And apparently the real Naraku likes to be nekkid, so beware of clothed Naraku's - they're probably illusions. |

If they fell for that light trap they deserve to die, I mean after all these times fighting Naraku they still haven't learn how devious he is. It seems the only one who really know what he is doing is Sesshoumaru. Sango is so stupid if she thinks Sesshoumaru wants her pathetic life, if he wanted to kill her she'll be dead already. |

Yes! Precisely! You have just put into words what I had been thinking all along. And actually, I will dare to say that Sango not only deserves not to be hated but also to be appreciated as a character; everyone commits mistakes but she assumed hers. She went against all values known, she was impulsive, she fell in a murderous desperation- and yet somehow that only made her more believable person. |

Naruka didn 't get to where he is today by dumb luck, he is an expert at manipulating humans and their emotions. Look at how he began 50 years earlier by tricking Kikyou and Inuyasha into fighting over the jewel, despite their love for each other. Of all the remaining characters it is really only Sesshomaru who can see through Naraku's tricks most easily--likely because even though he has made great strides in understanding and appreciating humans, he himself remains a demon and not subject to some of the same emotions. |

@Rodac You make an interesting point. Naraku as well as the rest of the main cast are all humans or half-humans and half-demons. Perhaps it is Sesshomaru's upbringing and status as a full demon that allows him to not be fooled by Naraku's tricks. That said, Sesshomaru deliberately falls into Naraku's traps sometimes for his own gains as well, such as when he made a deal with him to get the Tetsaiga. Maybe he learned from that encounter and vowed never to get fooled again. This episode was good but it was also very very bad. Miroku was being a bonehead and running off on his own like a wanna-be hero. Someone please slap him. And my favorite part of this episode had to be Sango's decision to attack Naraku and Rin. I'm somewhat glad that Sango made the decision to attack Rin. It shows us her desperation to save Miroku. Naraku's earlier visions about the Miroku's father's wind tunnel left a deep effect on Sango. Sango made a choice which she thought would save Miroku above all else. It was selfish but it was also human, and humans make mistakes. I'm just glad Sesshomaru didn't choose to slice her head off right then and there. |

For me, I'm not saying Sango deserved to die, but I really did hate her for what she did. True, she's a human and humans make mistakes, and she loved Miroku so much that she was willing to go to ANY lengths just to save him. Still, what's wrong is wrong. As what most of you had already mentioned, all of them should have known already that Naraku liked tricking people, especially with their feelings and relationship with people they care about. So you'd think by then they would have already had even the slightest hunch that Naraku's still doing the same, especially since Sango's choice was between Rin and Miroku. She wanted to save Miroku, yes, but at the expense of Rin's life? She despised Naraku for using Kohaku to kill innocent people, and yet when she had to be faced with Miroku's possible death, she decided to sacrifice Rin. Kohaku wasn't aware of his actions when he killed, he was possessed by the tainted shard, but Sango was conscious, albeit her heart was clouded with fear because of the illusion of Miroku being sucked in by his Kazaana that Naraku showed them earlier, but she can freely choose. And she didn't even choose, when she thought that Miroku was being lured to use his Kazaana, it was already decided she wouldn't want him to die and so she needed to kill Naraku right then and there. Sango didn't TRY or ATTEMPT to kill Rin, she already DID it when she threw her Hiraikotsu. The only thing that saved Rin's life was she fell when Naraku's illusion dissolved, so that the Hiraikotsu didn't hit her. And imagine if Kagome hadn't shot the arrow or if it was a second too late, Rin would have died and and there's absolutely no way she could be brought back to life. All for love. True, love can make people grow blind sometimes, and after all, Sango did see the illusion of her beloved monk dying. So what if Miroku lived, would he have been happy that Rin died because Sango chose to save him instead? He would feel terrible. Sometimes one would do ANYTHING for the person they love, not knowing if the person would be much better afterwards. In the end though, I think she could not fully regret her choice. I mean, I know she felt really bad with herself. But, she didn't try to justify herself to Sesshomaru and she was willing to face punishment for what she did because she knew sacrificing Rin was a choice she freely and consciously chose to make. She could be feeling very much sorry to Rin, but saving Miroku was still her best intention. In that episode, her love for him made her weak, and honestly, that kind of love isn't what you can consider as great love. Sorry, but it's more of stupid for me. Love is supposed to be a beautiful thing, no matter how sad or tragic. If anything, it isn't supposed to make one weak, but only stronger, and I guess the former was what her love was. I would have been less angry if she at least had a tough time in coming to a decision, but no, she instantly chose Miroku. She welcomed hell, she felt sorry to Rin. But Rin had never been an option. |

midnight-chan said: I agree 100 percent with everything you said... Sango is actually one of my favorite female characters after Rin and Kikyou but this scene showed how truly weak she is. I remember in episode 14 of the final act she told Kohaku that he was weak at heart, but I think it is quite clear now that she is the weak one of out of the two siblings. It is true that this scene shows us that she is a human and that our emotions do get the best of us in tough situations, however she let her concern for Miroku cloud her better judgement. Naraku has been using emotional tactics to manipulate them from the start of the series and it never occurred to her that it was a trap. Another thing I agree with is that she didn't give it much thought, after a single minute of contemplation she was ready to kill Rin in order to save her Monk. The sad thing is I don't think she even considered how Rin's death would effect the people who cared about her like Sesshomaru, Jaken, and Kohaku. Or how would Inuyasha and Kagome react if they knew she killed an innocent girl who has shown concern for her little brother? I doubt Miroku would be able to handle something like that. For me, I'm not saying Sango deserved to die, but I really did hate her for what she did. If Kagome was a second later with her arrow Rin would have died and so would Sango because Sesshomaru would have killed her without hesitation. The last time Rin died Sesshomaru was devastated, if she had died again there would be no mercy for Sango. He wouldn't even give her the chance to see Miroku again. Rin is the first person Sesshomaru truly ever cared about. What disappointed me the most was the selfishness and the foolishness behind her decision. She was far too quick to believe Naraku's words and too quick to take Rin's life. If this was a darker series than Rin might have died and consequently so would Sango. |

Shippo (to Byakuya): "So...You're not going to capture me? WHY NOT?!" That was funny xD I can't believe Sango almost risked Rin's life like that...But she gave Rin her mask to protect her from the poison, and I'm sure Sesshomaru won't kill Sango. So that's good. =) I was kind of surprised when Byakuya pulled out his sword and there was no blade. I haven't read the manga (although I might read it eventually) So I was wondering what that sword looked like and what it did. xP |

Sango's not a noble character. She's not save-them-all Kagome. I like her honesty because does Rin matter more to her than Miroku? No. She's not a hero. Why should she hesitate? If Sango had more time and Miroku was not in imminent danger, she would have definitely found another way. She would have realized it was an illusion too. She's not as blinded by her love as she is rushed for time. Miroku is her priority over all else. He needs help ASAP. If it wasn't an emergency, she would try to save Rin as well, obviously. That's why she says "Forgive me [for not saving/sacrificing you], Rin!" When it's revealed to be an illusion, the situation was not entirely Sango's fault, but she's entirely willing to take responsibility for her decisions and accept the consequences. After Miroku is saved. Although she's a young innocent girl, Rin is still a stranger. With Sango's resolution, I think even Kagome might've been sacrificed. Let's face it. Sango is suicidal for Kohaku and Miroku. |

After Miroku is saved. Although she's a young innocent girl, Rin is still a stranger. With Sango's resolution, I think even Kagome might've been sacrificed. Let's face it. Sango is suicidal for Kohaku and Miroku. Okay, first of all I'm wondering if you have been watching the same character I've been watching. Because I used to be INSPIRED by the fact that Sango is human--yes. But why do people always use "only human" in reference to fucking up? What about the human ability to do the RIGHT thing? What was inspirational and heroic about Sango's character is that no matter what fucked up shit happened to her--she strived to help others and save others and do the right thing. So, straight up, this was against everything shown about her character up to this point. It was almost as if the author just wanted to put her and Kohaku in the same boat, but midnight-chan said it best why this shit doesn't work. It's actually completely the reverse effect. Or was it to create tension or spark controversial discussion? Because, that's great for open discussion, but don't destroy an already well-established character for the sake of that. That's insulting to the audience. And that's something that would be accomplished with the decision being presented to her to begin with; what people need is inspiration in the right direction. This failed to deliver that. What you suggest, about her not being a noble character, gives us reason to dislike her. We expect her to hesitate at the very least, because she's been shown up to this point to be a decent human being. Nobody is debating the time she had, that's not even relevant, regardless of time, she made the wrong decision. Period. And she doesn't even pretend like it wasn't! And again, midnight-chan spoke my mind so well; and this the reason why I've lost respect for her even as a "normal person", it's because check the reasons why she's supposedly doing this: 1) She supposedly loves Miroku. If she loves him, I'm assuming she loves his character. But for the life of me, I can't see Miroku making this same decision (or maybe he would've given whatever Rumiko Takahashi was smoking, drinking, and/or shooting up the day this was put to paper). For the life of me, I believe that if he lived having to know Rin died for him--that would be a burden that he'd take to his grave. It would TORMENT him. Even more, he'd most likely blame himself for Sango's decision. And, not so much for how she actually decides, but he most certainly is highly responsible--Naraku is still the most responsible--for putting her in that situation. Furthermore, if not killed--this isn't something Sango could just "put behind her"; so her suffering would increase his suffering. So, no, this wasn't for Miroku or each other mutually, it was just for her; and it wasn't even a good job at being that much. 2) It's a choice between the one I love and a stranger. If it were the case of a villain about to kill either one and you only have time to save one--then it only makes sense to go with the one who actually means something to you. Same as every person has the right to defend oneself. But this is not the same. She is PROACTIVELY deciding to KILL an INNOCENT CHILD for the SAKE OF SOMEBODY WHO SHE CLEARLY DOESN'T RESPECT OR UNDERSTAND (refer to #1). In the case if Naraku were going to kill, right then, either one--it's going to happen anyway, may as well save one rather than let both die. But SHE'S the one deciding here. Not Naraku (who would let Rin live so long as she proved a valuable shield), her. She's doing the killing, for her own selfish reasons. That's not heroic, that's not what we've been shown so far of Sango. Children are our future, they are what's left when we are gone. That gives them special priority. If a child is trying to KILL you--kill them; your death does not help them then, they'll likely kill you and go on to kill more. Also, if you know for a fact, that if you or another you wish to save can go on to save and improve the lives of many others--justifiable sacrifice. I mention this for my next point: 3)Suppose she believes she's "doing the world a favor". This is bullshit, because obviously she wasn't thinking about it. And that's what's really stupid--she didn't THINK about it. If she had, she may have recalled Naraku's openly bragged about (for like, a billion times) plan of defiling the sacred jewel shard and feeding off it's darkness. She may have realized that she was in reality, making Narauku stronger with her choice. I mean, fucking duh, why would Naraku PURPOSELY LET HIMSELF BE KILLED!?! She may have then also realized--for the 1.87 billionth fucking time--this must be an illusion (gasp dramatically)! So respect lost for just being plain (by "average human standards") stupid. Again, Kohaku, even after regaining his memories, for a while went along with Naraku's plans. It was a suicidal attempt to end Naraku. It was actually justifiable, for the suffering and death of a few (which he sought to minimize) is NOT worth the suffering and death of the entire world! Conversely, Sango has effectively decided the life of one monk is worth the fate of the entire world. The world. One person. Dumb as hell. 4)She says "I don't care if I go to Hell. Yep, yep. That's what Miroku wants right? Even looking at this from a purely selfish perspective, if she believes in such a thing--wouldn't she want to spend eternity with Miroku? She's literally infinitely defeating her own purpose! And even for life--she must've known this would drive a major insurmountable wedge between her and Miroku; again, pointless. And, oh yeah, Sesshomaru is going to hunt her down and kill her--no questions asked. Nobody would be able to stop him. This makes NO sense whatsoever. So no, it really IS her fault. Not entirely, but mostly. I'm kinda on Naraku's side at this point. Because this is really, PAINFULLY, ridiculously, annoyingly, wrongly, fucking stoopid. And if Sango would really kill the world's best hope for salvation, another innocent, in REAL love, close friend who has saved her life literally countless times...whatta bitch. She deserves to be hated, and yeah, she should die for that. Not sure what your point was here. Your last statement made me laugh. I mean, are we to accept that like it's okay? It's not. Not by a long shot. The fact that everybody is like to just excuse her from this, makes me sick, and lose respect for ALL of them. Except for Sesshomaru (who knows she's done herself in anyway, and Rin is safe--all he cares about), Rin, Kohaku (he's in a fragile state of mind as is, supposed to be looking up to his big sister for direction...hah), and Shippo (kid). I'm not saying never forgive her, we make mistakes, but a mistake like this is inexcusable. I would very much respect a "nail-her-to-the-board" hard conversation, and a firm slap in the face wouldn't really be too much, and even then, she has to fucking atone for this shit. Hell! If this was US today, she'd spend at least 10 years minimum in prison for attempted murder! I wouldn't be able to trust her for a while after this, not at all. Miroku needs a good ass-chewin and face-slap too; it's as if the miasma has corroded his fucking brain, nothing he's done in the last few episodes has made any fucking sense. This episode made me feel like I was the one caught in an illusion. Between this and the random and lazy "we're home alone, let's finally kiss scene" for Kagoyasha a few eps back...ugh. Not gonna start, ranted long enough here. I will say this: by the end of all this, they'd better bring back Kagura and Kanna! |

Really love what Avery and midnight said about Sango here... this episode made me so mad at her omg I really liked her as a character before but this whole 'oh so tragic do anything for Miroku' thing clouding her brain has really made me lose a lot of respect for her as a character, and her choosing to kill Rin drained away the last remaining bit of it. I'm glad she admitted that she messed up big time and at least tried to slightly make it up by protecting Rin with her mask but still it's gonna take a lot more for me to forgive her for that, since like Avery said, if she had just stopped to think for a second she should have seen how utterly stupid her decision making process was. At least Sesshy still has a functional brain - tbh sometimes I think he's the only one left who does - and just wants to get the job done and doesn't care what happens as long as his Rin is safe :) |

Sesshomaru's character was ruined in the middle of Final Act, now Sango? I'm sorry but the Sango that I've known for 190 episodes and 4 movies and 15 years of my life would never, ever kill Rin to save Miroku. She might consider it, then feel ashamed of herself, curse Naraku's treachery, and pray for Miroku to hang in there a little longer, but that's about it. Nice speech she gave Kohaku in an earlier episode about how he always falls victim to Naraku's possession because he has a weak heart. |

As always Naraku is the villain that likes to manipulate other people by using their emotions. This time Miroku and Sango fall victims by his act. Sango maybe don't have a strong heart like Kagome but at least she admits it and ask for punishment so it's good. Great showcase that all the cast are stay true to being human icluded Sesshomaru to stay this cool the whole time as he is the only full demon here. |

I feel like Sango and Miroku had to lose half of their brain cells for this epsiode to exist. Naraku stands right before you and tells you to use your wind tunnel to destroy him? Better do what he says, it surely is the real one! |

Sango made a difficult choice but from her POV it made the most sense. What would you rather do, save the life of the only person you loved and who was there for you even at your worst or a random kid you barely even know? The choice might not be right but it was obvious. She was under insane pressure since she saw that illusion of Miroku's father's death after which Miroku just abandoned her. She wasn't gonna take any chances and wait around for Inuyasha or someone else to help her make the choice, especially since Miroku's life was at a strict time limit. Naraku is a cocky bastard and he's also very unpredictable. As a viewer, it's obvious he was just messing with Sango and Miroku but from their perspective, it might as well have been the real thing. Another thing people are ignoring is that after Sesshomaru showed up she assumed full responsibility for her action. She didn't fuck around by making excuses or justifying what she did. She said they should talk about this later to which Sesshomaru complied because there were more important things to do. |

So much going on in this episode. Emotion can really cloud judgement and rationality, and that is part of what makes us human. And of course, Naraku uses it to his utmost advantage. I understand why the illusion was so difficult for Sango, but Miroku's was kind of stupid. Like, it was written right in front of his face. He follows the Jewel's light, then Naraku and the Jewel conveniently appear right before him and Naraku himself encourages him to use his wind tunnel. Not once did it occur to him? I know he was desperate and under pressure, but he has had so much experience dealing with Naraku's schemes by now. Miroku is supposed to be the smartest out of the group, but here he was the opposite. I don't think Sesshomaru is gonna take any action. It's not so much that he forgives Sango, but more so that he's understanding and doesn't care enough to kill her. He's obviously not going to confront and scold Sango either because that's not who he is. Sesshomaru is really the MVP of this final arc, though. He's the only one who hasn't fallen for any of Naraku's deception. It certainly helps that he isn't anywhere near as emotional as the others, but the point still stands. |

Just three episodes left, huh? I really don't want this anime to end. While I had a few complaints in the previous season, the final act has been quite impressive. The pacing felt a bit rushed in the first two episodes, but it's improved since then, maintaining a fast pace without feeling rushed. |
