Oh damn, I'm cringing my teeth after this episode with the development events. And Munechika D:

From the grim poison to the tears and memories, this episode was quite something. Yeah I think this transition episode had some feels to it.

That was an intense episode. Hoping Munechika is somehow alive. And the princess has been poisoned and Oshutoru is the main suspect. Looks like the crew will come up with a plan to rescue him though, so that's good.

Oh, the emperor, a batshit insane old man who condoned mass murder of civilians, is dead...how sad. -_-

Oh, Munechika, an aggressor who followed said emperor's commands in an unjust invasion, was captured...how sad. -_-

Oh, Oshutoru was framed and gonna be executed for poisoning the princess...how sad. -_-

Amazing how quickly I stopped caring about these guys. Vurai's probably behind it all anyway, walking evil dick that he is, only thing I hope happens is he dies. I'm only watching this to finish it at this point.

When an episode starts with one of the most likable Pillar Generals attempting to make a courageous sacrifice for her people, you just know the things will get dark.

We spent half the show building up Yamato as a happy and sort of goofy place, a place which Haku slowly made into his home. Place where, despite eerie vibe from the palace, life seemed peaceful and lively. Yamato was a country of prosperity, country where characters could spend time not worrying about much, spending time in prestigious baths and hot springs, eating good food and interacting with each other.

Exactly because of that the contrast in the end of this episode works so well - As Haku and his team returns, Yamato looks DIFFERENT. There's no lively atmosphere that we experienced and associated with the country. Everything is falling into chaos.

The city is in chaos.
Oshutoru - the man who gave Haku a purpose in life and a chance to build home there - is treated as a traitor and has a death sentence.
Soldiers whom we saw protecting the country in two wars already and who laid their lives for the country are not turned against each other.

The contrast is staggering and works so damn well to set up the atmosphere of the situation. And what's adds to it more is that we keep seeing Haku's team on journey back home without a clue of what awaits them there, as its inter-cut with things spiraling out of control in Yamato, which permeates the whole episode with a feeling of dread and doom.

Now, just as he lost his brother he just recently found, everything Haku built up, his new life, his friendships, etc - comes under threat of falling apart.

Its nice to see Haku's leadership progressing too - we started with him being pushed around and not wanting any responsibility, but in this episode, when the time comes - its him telling others what to do and his team listening. The show always showed that Haku is kind of a diamond in the rought, with a lot of potential in terms of inspiring people and banding people together, not to mention someone who can be very tactical and devious when the situation needs it. Its great to see Haku slowly moving towards the man he CAN be.

Overall this was one of those episodes, where little bits of build up all slowly come together. Its always fun to see a house of cards crumble.

Hope Munechika is safe .-.

Hope the bastard that framed Oshutoru gets a good beating, don't think it's Vurai though since he considered him an equal.
Think it's the first I see him without a mask, he sure looks identical to Haku.

Yamato's sure changed, and not in a good way, so dark atmosphere.

Pretty intense episode, hope they're gonna save Oshutoru.

Also, you mean one of the most honorable generals who cared for her people and did not actually want the war she was fighting in?

1.) Necessary evil huh? If you say so. Good for you if that's good enough for you.

2.) Choosing to fight in a war she didn't want is supposed to make me sympathize with her? If anything it makes her look like an idiot, coward, mindless drone, etc... but whatever, if it works for you then good for you.

3.) I guess? As I said I don't care about him, or really any of them. I'm ready for this to end, 4 episodes left...

When an alternative is a giant country who has horrible superweapons falling apart and bloodshed and chaos spreading? Yes.
Its one of the major reasons why the west has yet to try to assassinate Putin.

Its not a CHOICE?
She is a soldier.
She is a general.
She has to follow orders even if she were to be uneasy about it. If she does not, she would get executed.

We are clearly shown she dislikes the war and just does her job in the invasion because the alternative was getting replaced by Vurai and even more people dying.

Not sure if its just a bad adaptation but this was just one hell of an stupid/awkward episode.

Oh NOooo !! munechika and 10 solderies are standing frozen solid at the shore ... What should we do ? The enemy is approaching, if we just make a run for it we could all make it ... but wait, lets stare them down a bit more, grind our teeth and see what happens ~~
Oh yes finally munechika decides to do some self sacrife for her nameless 10 soldiers since after all those countless soldier deaths, you can't afford any more and your country is better of loosing one of their generals instead XD

Finally activating the mask she is out of breath after a single attack - phew way to go Munechika.
Somehow the blow miracolously not only stopped the enemy that apparently was still miles away but it also created a giant wave that took out the enemy boats behind her, without harming their own of course .. :O ... Wow really ?

Also about the tea ... FFS , that was so out of place -.- Before anything happened i said to myself like 5 times "yeah that shit is poisened" ... literally ANYBODY could have guessed that it was poisened, it was THAT obvious -.-

And im not even suspecting oshtoru .... i mean coooome on ... Your emperor just dies all of a sudden and you don't even have a dude testing the food/drinks you'd give your only remaining princess ? Talk about stupid ^^

This more or less sums up how I feel about this episode really. I mean, if I had been made to care about anyone in this show, this would've actually been a pretty damn good episode. Unfortunately I have been given no reason to care so the episode ultimately sucks.

Oh, and why is Dekonpopo still around now that the Emperor's dead? He's clearly incompotent and was only there because the Emperor owed his father a favour, so surely Dekonpopo should be gone now? Also, what kind of shit poison doesn't even kill the person who was poisoned? It's just fucking stupid to not use a fatal poison if you're going to the effort of poisoning someone. Also, I'll be amazed if Vurai isn't behind all of this: the guy has literally emanated evil from day 1.

The quicker these Yamato fools die, one way or another, the better.

I've a question for people who read the VN. The setting of Utawarerumono is post apocalyptic planet earth right? Where is the location of Tsukuru and Yamato? Is Tsukuru location in Japan? It's been long time since I watch the first season so please correct me if I'm wrong. What about Yamato location?

It's amusing how this show expects the viewer to give a single damn about characters like Munechika or the princess. One that haven't been developed in the sightliest (she was basically a tsukomi during unfunny scenes with the princess) and the other with one scene of character development (when Oshutoru wanted to behead himself).

The whole scene on the beach was rather bizarre with all these still images and lack of common sense when it comes to combat. Cavalry was passing enemies doing nothing, some soldiers ignored Kurou's call to retreat and were just standing like idiots and tsunami sparing Yamato's ships reeked of plot convenience. Lack of blood was eye catching as well. Come on, it's supposed to be Utawarerumono and you don't even see mooks die when Kurou slashes them. Poor animation during combat (which already is really scarce thing in this show) makes me wonder what the hell did they spend all the budged on. Not on writing, screenplay or directing, that's for sure.

Munechika's decision has even less impact considering you can expect Tusukuru forces to capture her instead of killing. Not only she's much more valuable as a source of information and prisoner, but they were just that kind of people. And really, who gives a crap about people from Yamato. At this point Oshutoru might be the only likeable character on that side which includes Kuon.

Speaking of that traitor, it has been on my mind for a while but nobody in command doubted a person from Tusukuru even for a second? They just trusted her to show them secret paths etc.?

Tuskuru is in Japan. By the time of UTWR2 it should cover most of Japan.
Yamato is somewhere in china closer to Japan.

SH!T IS HITTIN THE FAN!.

I am starting to think that the chances of touka and karura being the ones who killed the emperor to be lower since it doesn't seem like they'd be the type to blame it on Oshutoru, and poison the princess, but who knows.

Only 3 episodes left :( but at least there's still the third game which will also probably get an adaptation when it's released

Wow, the haters in this anime's thread's are getting cancerous.

Yamato's borders are not as clearly defined tbh. Its not exactly IN China.

Kujuuri and Shahharo are some of known "states" within Yamato ruled by ouros(in this case Atui and Rurutie's parents). Shahharo is the seaside country we came back midway in this ep and we left from to invade tuskuru few eps back.
Blue area is where Oshutoru Nekone and Kiuru hail from, but I forgot what it is called.

The gray dotted Line is the Tuskuru invasion

Hmmm. That shows Yamato as being quite a bit further north than I anticipated. I expected it to be closer to central-Eastern China or even near Taiwan. That being said, with Tuskuru being Japan, the "traditional" route of going from Kamchatka through the Kuril Islands to Hokkaido makes sense, but that strikes me as being a bit north for the climate we saw on the stopover. While whatever happened could certainly have screwed up the climate, that's a bit of a cop-out. Regardless, Japan's one of the most naturally defensible countries in the world, so it's no wonder they got bogged down.

The Urals also seem way too far for Uzuruusha. We're talking over 6000 km away, and a 3-month (minimum) march through less than hospitable lands. At this tech level, that's just too far to mount a military expedition without significant support. I expected that to be around Mongolia and the Gobi, especially based on putting Yamato in the far north.

It's implied (mainly from the first's game's map) that Earth's poles shifted, so you'd need to tilt that map about.... 45 to 60 degree's to the right, I'd say.

Decent episode. Better than last week's episode and way better than the shit that came before it. Was a little pissed We didn't get to see Munchie turn into an Akuruturuka. After that the tension felt pretty solid. Popo's whining at the funeral was funny to watch. All in all it was a decent episode. Thing that puts me off is the fact we have very little time for anything else and unless there is some kind of extension to this series it's likely gonna be rushed junk. They wasted to much time bullshitting in the first half and now we're gonna pay for it most likely.

It's bit odd that Yamato royalty doesn't have a food tester, especially in light of these circumstances. Only need one disposable courtier to taste the food before they serve it to emperor and rest of the royalty.

Looking back, this also happened JSDF GATE Season II, the Emperor was also poisoned and no food tester there either. Maybe the laziness is spreading. xD

FUN FACT: Agrippina the mother of the Emperor of Rome was poisoned by him because she dictated to him on policy and attempted to rule Rome as his shadow. After he murdered his mother, he grew to be paranoid and haunted by dreams, but ofc. xD This ultimately became a thing for mangakas, to use poison to kill high officials and thus they began to ignore a common place practice in royal courts, to use FOOD TESTERS! Ugh! Speed the plot down the rabbit hole without having to use reason and cleverness, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (Sherlock Holmes Author) and Agatha Christie (Hercules Poirot and Ms. Marple) would turn over on their collective graves. XD

But it's important to remember that a movie review is subjective;it only gives you one person's opinion.

It doesn't matter if you like LoGH,Monster etc.If you are a jobless or college/school dropout living in your mom basement, you are still an unintelligent loser. Taste in anime does not make you a better person. If elitist don't exist, casual pleb and shit taste also don't exist.

After all the shit in this anime, it's hard to really care about the characters.

I certainly don't care for Munechika, the stupid princess, the generals or the emperor. Just want to see how things are going to end.

Munechika sinking the enemy ships that were very far way, but not sinking Yamato ships that were just behind her was something absolutely stupid, but at this point i lost my faith in this anime already.

It doesn't change the fact that the first half of the anime was boring, uninteresting and stupid. It didn't need 12 episodes to make we care for the characters (i said this already to you) and it certainly didn't need 12 episodes to acclimate everyone to Yamato's lazy atmosphere. Haku is still the same lazy ass character without any will that just follows the others. The same thing he was in the beginning of the anime.

I don't know why you try so hard to convince everyone that the first half of the anime was good and necessary. If it really was that good you wouldn't need to say the same thing at every single episode thread and people wouldn't complain so much about it.

The entire episode had me confused as heck. 10 soldiers couldn't run back to the boats fast enough so Munechika has to sacrifice herself? Utter BS. With her strength she could have tied them all together and THROWN them onto a ship out at sea.

Then the Oshitaru situation, yet more BS across the boards.
First, if he was actually innocent, then how in the world would someone be good enough to poison food that HE prepared undetected?
Second, if it was indeed done by one of the other Generals, why the hell would they do so? I mean, your Emperor is dead and your princess was the only one left to succeed the throne. Killing her instead of using her as a puppet ruler? Specially when you're at war with another country and actually need a figurehead? How stupid can those Generals get?

I feel like this entire BS plot is actually something that the Emperor cooked up to instate Haku on his throne, He wants Haku to implicate himself by admitting to all of Yamato that he is the Emperor's brother, saving Oshitaru and his niece in the process.

Otherwise even I cannot begin to explain the current plot, even to myself.

This episode was just... not good enough...

Oh yes, things are heating up! I'm so so excited for the build-up to the ending. So much foreshadowing...Poor Haku, he just lost his brother and then he might be losing his best bro, I think.

I'm suspecting Woshisu (the BL writer) to be behind this plot...wasn't he kinda close to the emperor, I think? At least he was shown meeting him in a past episode right? Perhaps the emperor asked him to help fake his death or like poison Anju? Thought that wouldn't make any sense. I hope the third game gets adapted...then I can binge watch everything!

Yes this anime adaptation has bad writing and is poorly executed but if you are lenient enough to just go with the flow then it's rather enjoyable, I think. Did you see what I done there?

You are not fanboy enough, that's why you are having problems with the plot. Ask @Fai and he will tell you how perfect the plot is.

Admittedly I'm not. I enjoyed the fantasy portion of the show and love the world this is in, but if the story doesn't run or make sense, then it's all irrelevant.

Hopefully Fai will be able to explain everything to me so I can actually enjoy it again.
