Lol, cute:

I just love how enthusiastic the girls are regarding music and where they are right now. Was kinda surprised by Miku this episode with her feels but it's good to see how united the group is now. Nya~

I see Sanae and Shizuku with her wardrobe malfunction.

It seems to be quite hard thinking of a name for a song, I see why Anzu didn't give hers a meaningful name for her CD but she should've at least tried first.

I feel bad for the rest of the girls especially Miku not getting a CD debut (I hope they get one in the anime eventually), but I wasn't expecting some of them to go on strike, I mean never before have idols gone on strike (even in the 2D world), in the real world, they'd be replaced quite quickly at their stage as idols imagine if they were replaced, maybe I could got the best loli.

What was that even supposed to be? Drama? I was too busy laughing at the cheesiness of the episode that I couldn't sympathize. The young girls acting immature all the time and suddenly getting really angsty is far too strange.

Man. I hope this series stops being.. this series.

It just can't due to the cast, the cast isn't suited for drama, it's more suited for a Manga Time Kirara slice of life work comedy.

Yeah, I see what you mean. I think it'd be better off taking that route, too, but I don't know how to really describe it.. I've wanted to watch the other recent iM@S season, but this really puts me off.

While Miku and the others maybe left behind, it just foolish and silly to have a strike just because you weren't chosen. Its just immature and embarrassing that I had to skip that part. Its not even funny. If its drama, well, it doesn't work. If they really want to be recognize they need to show it through talent, luck and a lot of patience.

After this episode, I start to dislike Miku.

Hopefully next episode we can see the next gen's performance.

It lacks all the interesting characters that made Cinderella Girls worth playing or reading. A-1 put every interesting or best girl as cameos or omitted them entirely. This is the closest thing to an anime with all worst girls (Anya and Minami are only ones even worth keeping).

Yeah, I don't want idols striking like this for the wrong reasons, it sets a bad example and leads to things like refusing to perform. Common sense says an idol who strikes will be struck down.

Getting an unit name New Generations.

All the others wanting to have their own debut. Miku really pushed it to be on strike!
Anzu wanting 8 days off per week, the unity they've shown!

It was fun with everybody going off at their own pace. It being solved and Producer-san revealing a little more.

2011 Idolmaster is far superior to CG right now.

I don't think this episode's content would pan out that well in real life(unless it was really that bad, I'm pretty sure you can't fire someone just because they're on strike or whatever but I don't know much about that stuff), but for what it was attempting to accomplish, it was competent. And Producer-san had a slightly larger role in this episode, which I appreciate seeing and hope that his role continues to grow. Could even make it a character development thing where he becomes less aloof and distant and learns to open up more to the idols under his care, because it certainly seems like he does care, at least.

However, most of the characters are still essentially one trait, with the notable exception of Rin and possibly Minami. My favorite girl Uzuki needs some development too; if I counted how many times she's said "I'll do my best!" over the past five episodes, I would probably hit at least 20. I get that she's the really-eager main character girl type, but they gotta add in more sides to her.
I mean, by episode 5 in 2011, we already had one full character episode for Yukiho, and episodes with a little development for Producer-san, Chihaya, Iori, Yayoi, Ami and Mami. A-1 has proven that they've done it before with the same exact franchise. Maybe it's a little harder this time, given that they don't have much source material to start from, but it can be done.

I'll give this one a pass. It had some conflict(short, but they did raise a couple of good questions) and Producer had a larger role to fill today. It's still missing some things. But there's still potential.
Also, did I actually hear Miku say one frigging sentence without "nya" in it?

Everything seems to be happening so fast. Problems are bound to arise.

I've come to realize that I like the girls who received the CD opportunity way more than everyone else who didn't... they're either too immature for my tolerance, annoying, or both. *sigh* Well, they are kids...

Geez girls, you just have to be patient. It's a miracle that any of the units are able to get work at all.

AnastasiaxMinami approved.

Haaaa, poor producer. Hang in there!

Lol, Rika, you're so sweet when it comes to your sister.

New Generations? Seems like a mouthful, I think shortening to just Generation would be better.

Cringeworthy episode. In real-life, I don't think a producer would just announce who gets to have a CD Debut in front of everyone. That is just so cruel to all the other girls present who aren't being selected. The strike scene is pure stupidity.

That's what you get when you hire someone who has only done storyboarding and art directing work all her life to do story composing for a series. Atsushi Nishigori needs to come back for the franchise.

I disagree. The world of being an Idol is cut throat and cruel. That is why I really dislike "idol" animation. They sugar coat this unpleasant reality. But of course, in the end, everyone was hunky-dory about it.

WUG almost approached the reality of trying to be an Idol, it unfortunately dissolved into sugar at the end. But this show is so sweet that I am honestly surprised that the viewers don't have diabetes.

Even though Miku's actions seemed foolish, few VAs from Idolm@ster said that they cried in this episode (It seems that they had same kind of feelings too)

Kenji Akabane(Producer from Idolm@ster) https://twitter.com/kenji__akabane/status/563722525750734849

Eiko Nakamura (Haruka Amami from Idolm@ster)
https://twitter.com/eriko_co_log/status/563719697124704256

I could understand Miku's actions a bit because she seemed to be the most devoted in becoming an idol. Miku was probably worried because people who joined later than her (New Generations members) and thought that she might not be able to debut. But of course, she took it too far.

Anyways, I think this episode was good overall, but I wished the animators could have digged into Miku's inner struggle more.

I could understand better after re-watching it subbed. I understand Miku's feelings and all, but I still think a strike was too much. I hope she'll improve after this.

The producer should have at least told his plans as to reassure them that all of them will have a chance and he's working hard for it, but I understand that he doesn't want to get their hopes up.

Anyways, looking forward for more Idolmaster next week.

No, in fact only two are younger than 15/16, and the animations staff shames and shits on them either ways.
Rika, the erotic young idol was reduced to an ugly baggy cloth wearing kid who they even covered up the midriff of, because that would be wrong to show. God, so cringeworthy.

Anyways, the series DOES almost exclusively focus on the main trio, so there you have it.

But it's important to remember that a movie review is subjective;it only gives you one person's opinion.

It doesn't matter if you like LoGH,Monster etc.If you are a jobless or college/school dropout living in your mom basement, you are still an unintelligent loser. Taste in anime does not make you a better person. If elitist don't exist, casual pleb and shit taste also don't exist.

After reading through the comments, and wow my reaction to this show is the opposite of what others think. I honestly dislike the original Idolm@ster show for a lot of reasons (mostly when it came to drama and the Jupiter subplot), I'm liking this series much more than the original, and honestly, Miku is currently my favorite character. While I don't really like her cat speech thing, I find her hilarious. I also really like how she really wants to debut, but isn't allowed to while the newer members are. Yes the strike part was really stupid, but her speech was well done. Yes they could of handled it better, but its not like the original Im@s did anything better (with the exception of Haruka's Arc, the only thing I liked in that show).

That was hard to watch. The producer was letting all that nonsense continue instead of putting a stop to it, and Miku ends up inciting a strike? I know this is series is idealistic, but nearly any scenario where that wouldn't lead to Miku being fired is suspension-breaking for me.

The writer would be better off avoiding drama than writing something this ridiculous/unbelievable.

I don't think I'll be hanging around much longer if we get more episodes like this. Maybe I'll try the original Idolmaster instead since some of the frequenters here say it has better characterization, which is pretty critical for a series like this.

Honestly though if you didn't like the drama in this, then I can hardly recommend the original. In the original, the writers felt the need to put a lot unnecessary drama in most episodes. Ranging from the characters being overly depressed over little things to the drama being so over the top that its hard to take seriously. The show lacks subtlety is what I'm saying.

I find the girls adorable for wanting a debut, but I'm sure they'll have their unit moments very soon.

I wonder when they'll start showcasing each idol's personal affairs? Like in the previous series where each had their own episode.

EDIT: Nevermind, I figured they already started solo episodes. This one's for Miku.

Was that after character development, or was it meant to be part of the character development? I view heavy drama (or, worded differently, drama for the sake of drama) to be a form of fanservice, so I'm pretty lenient about it if there's some decent justification.

In this case part of the problem was thanks to Miku not being fleshed out as a character. She isn't even two-dimensional at this point: Her catgirl trait and her persistence completely consumes the entirety of her character. That's not good if she is indeed a primary character.

The other part that contributed to this is the lack of setting context, at least as given by this series. If this is the sort of world where idols can go around goofing off all the time and get away with it, that needs to be made more clear somehow. When contrasted with the seriousness of the marketing and concert preparations, Miku's childish behavior just doesn't fit.

It depends, most of the time they used drama for character development and others after development. The big problem is that the ones that used drama as development didn't get enough time for us to care. Adding to the fact that the subject of those drama were pretty minor really did not help. The reason for so little time is spent on them is because they tried to introduce all of the characters in the FIRST episode . The original series was made for the fans of games who already know the characters, leaving those new to the series confused.

Honestly the fact Miku didn't get fired didn't really bother as much as others. I often chuckled at people expecting realism in an idol anime (especially Idolm@ster). Idol animes in general (except Wake Up Girls) have always sugar coated everything and are not accurate representations of the cutthroat nature of the idol industry.
