Hmm, the art felt somewhat loose this episode but overall had a fun tone overall. The way their outfits are designed is also quite appealing imo. Taking the stage already huh? That's a big step to becoming an idol. Nice.

I hope they can keep up with the momentum. Those cute hats :3

The song is TOKIMEKI Escalate from Mika's Cinderella Master CD

That was nice of Mika to give Uzuki, Rin, and Mio some recognition even though they were backup dancers.

I wonder if there will be any Mayu yandere stalking scenes in future episodes of this anime. I hope so.

For their first concert, they did a really good job. I'm happy for them.

At first, I was a bit worried they'll make mistakes and ruin the performance, good thing that didn't happen.

Lol at Miku challenging Mio at games but always loses, and Ranko's laugh. Anya's adorable with her russian accent trying to speak Japanese. Starts to open up to the trio.

Thought, I can't help but notice the art is a little off.

I have to say, I enjoyed this episode. I'm gonna watch this again when subs come out.

Is it me, or is the animation this episode shockingly terrible? 3 episodes in and the series is already suffering from animation breakdown? Last episode's animation wasn't that good either. Seems A1 is suffering from doing too many works this season.

Probably doing what they did with Persona 4 Golden and saying fuck it the original products popularity will sell itself, which is probably the case here too. That's why I rarely bet on adaptations of popular video games to look consistently good. Strangely in Japan they seem to be losing their minds right now saying the show is the best thing to happen to anime this decade which is something else since I don't know how you could look at this episode concert scene aside which are usually handled by their own separate teams and say it looks good. Anime fans, particularly the hardcore types this stuff appeals too are something else when it comes to rock bottom standards these days.

Supposedly this episode alone had like 15 different animation companies it was outsourced too according to the credits which doesn't surprise me considering A-1 is currently so inundated with projects I'd be surprised if half of things they are credited with animation production on are even animated at A-1.

Best thing that happened this decade? Yeah right, it's above average at best with a very hit or miss main cast that ranges from average to below average, the fanbase has lost it. Kancolle is better than this.

Btw I just forgot that this is getting an G4U pack for the PS3

Your complaint is off-model character designs. Off-model characters != animation. The two are linked, but not the same thing.

And the performance was animated pretty well for me.

FRIED CHICKEN LMAO. FRIED CHICKEN MOE

The QUALITY faces were so cringe-worthy that I almost had to look away in embarassment, seeing as how good overall the first 2 episodes looked. The performance made up for it, though. I really liked the song.

What's funny was that my brother suggested that when the 3 get lifted up by the platform, they should all jump to get even higher. I was like, "lolz no. that would be wack. plus, that's dangerous!" Surely enough, they jumped and it was fuckin AWESOME as shit!

The 1st Idolm@ster is better than this one as well as the movie and the spinoff Puchimas, just avoid Xenoglossia as it's not Idolm@ster but a turd with the name slapped on it.

I really liked the drama this episode. It was actually really real and not overdone.

Another great episode. I liked the foreshadowing how Rin's good at singing. It'd be cool if she'd get a storyline as awesome as Chihaya's in the original iDOLM@STER.

Oh, but the art wasn't very good this episode... So sad, cause the first episode looked really good. I had high expectations for the art, but oh well.

I'd say Xenoglossia is decent if you're into mecha anime, but not if you're looking for an idol show. Not really fair to call it an outright turd IMO considering the production values are decent and other than that it just kind of is what it is.

That was quite the performance, especially for their first!

Seeing more of the technical side of things from rehearsing and seeing the props and stuff was rather enjoyable! The uncertainty before they entered the stage that instantly disappeared as they already were enjoying themselves! The performances was really enjoyable!

it's the opposite. this episode's animation was absolutely stunning. It's just the style of this episodes's animation director Megumi Kouno. She is a young animator from studio Gainax who has gotten a lot of attention from animation fans due to her distinctive way of animating those cute little girls. the pointy bodys and wavy sex hair are the most recognizable traits of her animation. the characters may look off-model but the movements are interesting and bring forth more of the character's personalities than any static detailed drawn shot could.

sadly, anime fans hate good animation

Most people do now, its made it a lot more difficult to find people to talk about anime with cause its my favorite genre yet its pretty much arbitrarily hated now. Also most people like a steady stream of simple SOL now while I find those shows get boring and plain rather quickly. Just a very different environment and fan base from when i first got into anime really.

@robot: I think its just a very different standard for good animation then cause while this episode jad its good moments it also had a lot of cheap out ones. Sorry but I'd hardly call this a hallmark of top quality animation that I'd point to as an example or teaching tool. If that's what passes for stunning now than i guess even I underestimated just how low standards have dropped.

Too many...girls...on the screen, estrogen oversaturated, I think I can smell one of them ovulating...help me...someone hand me the first season of JoJo...I need manly sweat to counter that...

Bland episode in the emotion department despite all these flashy animation at the end. We never get enough time to get familiar with any of the three main cast or their personality or their struggle, it's all end well at the end cause the show had no time to focus on a small group of people when you have that many someone else's waifu to take care of.

Scenes like Frogzuki at there start weren't the 'super sakuga' scenes that Kouno would have been involved with. The worst parts were when characters were stationary. For those easier frames, they probably outsourced so that more time could be spent elsewhere. Like the Frogzuki scene, the few frames of actual movement were fine.

The sakuga that Kouno obviously had a hand in was fine; brilliant for TOKIMEKI. Her animation is on-model, or suits the perspective and she's familiar with CG already having done the 2nd Anniv PV back in 2013, as in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XLrIpgdFwVk

I'd have been very surprised if there'd been a screw up on the trio's part - they'd just run that course in the iDOLM@STER movie after all, so doing it again would feel disturbingly familiar and cheap at the same time.

I always rationalized thought of it as what one of the fake shows they're always advertising would really look like. It just ended up being too long and not over-the-top enough :P

As for the ep itself: -1 for the inconsistent art. +1 for Rookie Trainer. +1 for Miku's antics. It was fun despite the obvious issues - nothing special, but fun. It would be more fun if it focused on ones I actually liked, rather than ones I'm ambivalent towards at best, but the most popular team was an obvious choice for the lead, and just letting my favorites sneak some scenes in edgewise is good enough.

You can tell where most of the budget for this episode went.

Also, needs more pointlessly Russian girl who might be related to Sasha from Tit Suck: the Animation. (But seriously though, why is she in a Japanese idol group?)

Great episode! I was worried that the trio will screw up in the live performance, considering the amount of foreshadowing of them having a live so early as 'a good experience'.-It's as though telling the audience the trio may face embarrassment from screwing up their first live and maybe from there work even harder for their future lives. However, I'm glad that didn't happen! I guess the amount of their screw ups in the episode itself are enough to see how much experience they have gained.
Also, it's nice that there is some touch-on on the other characters' personalities like the girl who loves baking but has the problem of overeating and then there's the Russian girl who is slowly changing herself from speaking russian to speaking japanese!
In addition, after reading the comments here, to a certain extent, I can agree that the art is a little off with some buggy eyes. However, I feel that overall it was fine and people do make slight mistakes(that's what makes us human).
Can't wait for the next episode!-Hopefully, getting to focus more other characters to know their backgrounds! Oh yeah, Rin's singing was awesome!-It surprised me a bit when she sang!

EDIT: After re-watching a second time, I just realised the part where Mio gave a pat(which kinda hurt?) to Rin at the beginning and then before the live, Rin did what Mio did to her; a pat to give a sort of encouragement!
Plus the fact that at the beginning, it was Rin who was uneasy about appearing on stage that early; with Uzuki and Mio all fired up about the live performance and then towards the end, it was Uzuki and Mio(the most) who got affected by the nervousness of appearing on stage while Rin kept her cool(hence the type she is in) and get the both of them, especially Mio, their act together for the live!
And of course(forget to add) the food chant before a live show is a great one.-Wonder if with all the girls, will the chant/cheer be still about food...
