ROKKU.

Well they are performing in front of a lot of people now. I'm not a fan of this music though tbh. The ending was cute I guess. The audience sure are enjoying that song though.

Those tickets being worth six month worth of pay cheques!
Ryoma just suddenly barging into the concert... that felt somewhat awkward and bizarre. They were even able to sing together too!
If Peace Soul takes their shirts off, what would Ultra Soul do xD
This was okay, I ain't a big fan of Ryoma especially when he barged in to the concert. It just felt weird.

Okay. I've decided what to think of this anime now.
It's basically UtaPri on crack.
Ryoma barging on stage to show the Shinsengumi the meaning of passionate music reminded me so, so, so much of when Natsuki barges onto the stage in UtaPri to show Tokiya the meaning of passionate music. Because their voice actors are the same and all that -_-
I don't really know what to think about the songs. I love Kishou Taniyama's voice so much as well as many of the other voice actors, but I'm more of a fan of the J-pop genre than the rock/guitar slammin' stuff.
Even though this is supposed to be fangirl fodder, I can't really get excited over the weird ass peace soul shirt removal stuff.

I liked this episode more than the first one.
I really enjoyed Cindy's character and I guess I wasn't that bored? But I really hated the CGI parts during the live, especially when they were mixed with 2D.
I wonder if Ryoma's pack is going to team up with Shinsengumi on a basis, I wouldn't mind that (let's face it, I'm a sucker for Shinsengumi-inspired characters.)

Another alright episode.

Kondo wants to give Ryouma and his band to perform live.

Ryouma suddenly barging into concert. The audience told him to go home. After he and his band performed their Rock music...then audience cheered for them...lol.

3DCGI so ugly. But at least I'm warming up to Ryouma. I'm liking his easy-going, chill personality. Like how he just goes, whaat I'll be working for free for 6 months? But still got the tickets anyways! And the way he was cheering with the audience, lol. This guy is pretty funny. Hmm, going with the current trend, "sensei" will likely awaken(?) his Peace Soul next episode then?

I still can't get over shinsengumi as idols.. i mean who came up with that stupid idea? XD
I also want to know how those two met!

And i like the songs, but so far this anime has been pretty boring. I have no high hopes for it to get better though.

Not gonna lie, I really liked this. Especially because they focused on Tatsun's character the most <3 Overall, this show is pretty decent. A lot better than the typical pandering trash. At least, this has some kind of theme going on.

CGI's a bit weird, but ehhhh not as bad as Sailor Moon's.

I watched the ED sequence again and damn, I wanna see these boys in suits. That would be great.

im still not a fan of the 3D animation but at least theyre only using it with extreme camera angles, i hope it gets better.

The anime itself is a bit silly, but I believe what counts the most is the music, and the music is great to me. Bakumatsu Rock puts SoniAni to shame.

CGI was shite though.

Loved the series so far, but dread the CGI. It kind of ruined the experience when they're playing shirtless, then the song ends. I think it would have been better if they only used the CGI to do the close up when they're playing chords. Overall, great series so far. I'm obsessed with their music now hehe~ OuO

Oh god that CGI animation was absolutely repulsive, it looks like they filmed real people and coloured colourful sparkly stuff over the top of them. This anime has really gotten to my nerves now, their animation doesn't even sync with the music..

Kondo-san was pretty nice to give Ryoma and his pals a chance to perform live.

That concert scene was so ridiculous!
First, the audience decries when Ryoma took the stage, telling him to go home. But once he started playing his guitar, they started cheering? What?! O.o

The animation was specially lousy this episode. CG movements combined with normal animation in the same scene looked very out of place.

Below average episode. The only important thing we learned was about the "Ultra Soul" being scattered into "Peace Soul" and that Ryoma and Cindy both now possesses each.

Damn. I at least wished the songs to be good. Guess, can't expect more from this show.

the episode overall was good, but I agree that the CG was out of place and looked terrible combined with the regular anime

Yeah, the animation is not good, that CGI was a bit hard to watch but the sheer hilariousness of the whole thing made up for it. Better than the second episode.

And, I'm sorry, but even when Cindy's backstory scene was on, I was laughing because this show is just too darn CRAZY

UtaPri on crack it is! I still like it!

I still don't know what to think of this series, so I'm leaving the rating open for now.
The CGI looked weird and out of place and the concert didn't feel as "hot" as they would have liked to make us believe it would.
I hope this series starts to make sense soon (not in its historical absurdness, that just adds to the whole crack thing that this series is. The historical references make me laugh when they're used out of context.)
Is the shirt ripping really necessary?

I'm not a huge fan of the story but DANG if the music isn't awesome! Though the animation looked a bit odd at times (like when they were playing at the concert). However we get a bit more backstory from Shinsaku ... he lost his parents because of the government and that's why he hates them eh? Plus it seems like how he met "Sensei" (I forget his name) is pretty embarrassing XD
Hijikata and Souji's voices when they're singing don't really match their looks eh ;P I guess because it's pretty heavily edited. Dang if the trio joining them and them all rocking out (ehehe) together wasn't great to listen to though XD
Shinsaku ends up getting a Peace Soul too. I wonder what the kid at the end has to do with it all, and what happened to Shoin-sensei as well ... well, I bet all three of the trio has a Peace Soul (I mean it would be weird for only the two of them to have one :P)

It was so great that I watched over and over.

Even though Cindy is sometimes hard to handle, he is still nice guy, in the case of music and friends. Just from the perspective of what Ryoma sees in him. It is interesting to see how those two´s friendship develops.

...No. LOL Watch Utapri and this show would seem a lot more rock than that.

The voice cast for Bakurock is great because most of the five main voice actors are already familiar with rock music (Suzuki Tatsuhisa and Taniyama Kishow for example, are both in rock bands themselves and OnoK is pretty good too)

A lot of complaints about the CGI in this thread. I didn't mind it, although it certainly was noticeable. I guess Love Live desensitized me to it.

This show definitely has the potential to be my favorite for this season. I mean, the plot is about samurai who fight the government with the power of rock, and the actual episodes are about as crazily awesome as the synopsis made me expect. Not to mention it seems like we might get some characters who are actually decent in addition to being fucking ridiculous. I want to see more of Kondo; he seems to have interesting motives.

I have to wonder, if the completely unnecessary stripping in this show isn't 'pandering,' then what exactly are you referring to? Do you mean that it would be 'pandering' if it lacked focus on the characters and didn't "have some kind of theme going on?" Maybe it'd help me understand what you meant if you gave an example of something that you'd call pandering.

I'm curious about where you're coming from as well. Could you post an example (or examples) of music that represents what rock is to you?

I'm most familiar with classic rock, which this definitely is not. But it definitely sounded like 'rock' to me. Of course, as far as I can tell 'pop' is just a catch-all term for 'popular music' and may well overlap with 'rock' to some extent.

NGNL is pandering. I think this show does have those things too but has something to back it up like it's rock theme it's going with and the potential for a very good story. The random stripping in this show is not as bad as girls going around topless and having bath time fun together. I would compare this show to another music show like White Album 2 which also had pandering elements during its song sequences but the music was the main focus.

I was quite skeptical about watching this at first. I laughed so hard at the first episode, and I think it was a great decision to watch the second one.

I'm not gonna act all professional and shit, because what I care most is that I certainly enjoyed it. The weird Vocaloid-like animation thing is quite distracting though.

I like how Ryoma is so chill with everything. Gonna work for free in 6 months? Okay. Old man was apparently Kondo Isami? Okay. Just barged in a concert without knowing the name of the singers, giving them nicknames, and telling them how I like their music but it lacks passion? Okay.

Looks like Sensei's quite depressed with being the only person without a Peace Soul. Next episode, maybe?

Soji and Hijikata's back-up vocals/autotune was funny, especially when there was something wrong with it (apparently) and there was even a part that Soji's voice was barely heard.

My favorite part would be when Ryoma barged in the stage!! Because yes, the instruments (especially the drum) just HAD to appear whenever they play. XDDD.

"If Peace Souls can rip off their shirts, imagine what an Ultra Soul can do. XDD" I think I just died.

Will certainly be sticking with this! It certainly feels like UtaPri on crack, but it's all good to me. Certainly can't help experiencing second hand embarrassment whenever they rip their clothes tho.
