She's a bit too sensitive. C'mon why would someone offer to go on a date and kiss someone else at that very date spot!?! She should have worked it out. On the other hand what's Godai doing with that other girl? he's being unnecessarily a p***k here

Wtf are you talking about Kyoko is dating the other guy so wtf he cant date either? It's like he likes her but on the other hand Kyoko is seriously thinking of picking the other guy over Godai so yeah she has no right to be mad. Her mood swings kinda piss me off cause she blames Godai for everything. I mean she get mad if he gets phone call.. she gets mad if she see him with another girl.. she mad currently cause hes dating someone else but she is doing the exact same thing sorry it just pisses me off.

... This is sad. All of the characters are starting to annoy me.

1) Ichinose. Good god. What business is it of hers to go around stirring up drama everywhere and making things worse?
2) Yotsuya. ARE YOU SERIOUS. Drilling a hole into someone's room is just wrong on so many levels. I'd be after him for violating my privacy rights. Of course, this is from someone who's never had a good experience with neighbours...
3) Godai. We're all blaming Kyoko, but Godai's got a lot of really unattractive and just flat out bad personality traits. I actually can't blame Kyoko for not going after him. He's been praised for being 'human' because of them, but... I don't really find that to be the case.
4) Mitaka. I know that such shallow and egotistical people exist, but it doesn't make him any better as a character. No wonder Kyoko has difficulty choosing between Godai and Mitaka. I wouldn't really go with either.
5) Kyoko. But everyone else has mentioned why already...

I feel like I should stop watching if so many characters are getting on my nerves, and with so many episodes left with them. :\ Hardly any of them get any character progression, and they seem totally static.

This was one slow episode. I remember this chapter in the manga being much funnier.
All I can say is that you can't have a character without flaws. Some of them are just more unrealistic. (eg. Yotsuya)

Thank goodness her date with Mitaka didn't pan out. Otherwise the distance between her and Godai would grow too large.
Still I'm not liking the direction this is headed.

Wow Godai, you sure are quick to figure out that if you really like Girl A you shouldn't date Girl B just in front of Girl A's nose.

Kyouko should bill Yotsuya for wall fixes. Maybe that will teach him.

Yes, Kyouko has mood swings, but she has always been very emotional, she wouldn't get hitched right after graduating high school if she weren't. I understand her dating Mitaka instead ofGodai, because she seess Godai with Kozue, and I understand her being angry at Mitaka hugging other women (she doesn't know he has cynophobia, remember!) It all boils down to one idiot from room #5 who can't say no to a cute young girl.

Wow, things just got complicated! This reminds me of too many spanish novelas lol
I feel sorry for Godai and Kyoko, but also they sometimes get on my nerves! Godai because he can't man up and tell Kozue that he's in love with someone else, and Kyoko for contradicting herself: She's not over Souichirou, but gets jealous when a woman approaches her possible partners (moreover at Goudai than Mitaka) when she herself isn't exactly "available".

kyoko is the character that makes the least sense in the show

first she falls in love easily with a loser teacher just because he's clumsy, but now that the loser is dead she can't fall in love with a guy who tries to treat her well and loves her. also she can't fall in love with a rich and handsome guy that every girl dreams about

not satisfied with it she will create a clash between the two that could last for years, even knowing that this will make her closest friend suffer...

Wow, those were a lot of fans ^^

Lol, not gonna lie, was even gloating a bit over Mikatas misfortune, but poor Godai was eventually the guy who had to bear with Kyokos anger. It's good that her character has some depth, but it's a bit annoying to watch at times.

Mitaka got the short end of the stick for no fault of his own. And Godai finally realised how stupid he is being with the half-dating thing with kozue. Kyoko is being kyoko. God, it's hard to watch this

That's exactly why I'm here. Kyoko hasn't really annoyed me much in this series, but she was WAY too impulsive there. This is the irritating part about romance anime, the chicks can be so impulsive and draw conclusions that prolong unnecessary drama. Why tf wouldn't she have gone into the pet store to at least confront Mitaka. What person wouldn't? Even if he was cheating, wouldn't it give Kyoko some closure? What kinda idiot would watch their (potential) partner cheat on someone and run away without saying anything? That's like the worst thing you can do. Seek an answer, and determine if there was a misunderstanding or if you've gotta chastise the culprit. Sure, Mitaka is popular with the women, but tbh, he hasn't given Kyoko much of an indication that he's capable of cheating. He hasn't pursued anyone else but her. And the show has made it apparent that he's genuinely enamored by her.

I also dislike how she freaks out on Godai without knowing any of the details. As far as she knows, they're not even dating. She never asked him about it and is relying on the input from the gossipy Mrs. Ichinose. When she, Kozue, and Godai were walking, she was clearly oblivious to his social cues -- and his obvious apprehensiveness to be with Kozue -- a quick-to-assume mannerism that attributes her as ignorant and naive, to a degree. THEN again, she's only a few years old than 'young' Godai, and Godai's not the most mature either.

But like, chucking canned food at his head -- especially after she's the one who had a lack of judgment -- too far manager, too far. ;(

BUT, one other thing I wanted to say, is that I somewhat understand her frustrations with everyone in her circle. Everyone is pestering her about making decisions, even though she's perfectly comfortable with her current life, is showing doubts about 'moving on' so to speak, and isn't harming anymore or herself with her current lifestyle. I know the 90's were a different time period, but were the Japanese really that gung-ho about starting families? I know family ties are sacred, but yeesh, they're not giving Kyoko any free will. Not Kyoko's parents, or her step-father, or Mrs. Ichinose, or her friends, etc. etc.
[As for Godai and Mitaka, I don't think they're to blame at all, in terms of being a burden on Kyoko. Mitaka genuinely likes Kyoko, and you can't chastise someone for being in love. Likewise, Godai feels the same, but is also taking the precautions to make sure Kyoko is comfortable with his advances and is supportive/patient when it comes to her dead spouse. Godai even reprimanded Mrs. Ichinose and Mitaka about setting her off when she's sensitive about her husband -- which, despite what I said before, is quite mature of Godai.]

SO! The can-head-chuck. I think it's being implied that Kyoko's taking out her frustrations on Godai. Yes, because both Mitaka and Godai perceivably stood her up and 'cheated' on her (even though that isn't the case and Kyoko is being careless and not analyzing the situation)..... BUT, I think her lashing out on Godai was a culmination of the last few episodes and the stresses that have been building up.

= = = = = = = = = =

For the first half of the episode, my conclusion is that: I feel for Kyoko. If she wants to be a single widow for the rest of her life, use her husband's last name, and be the permanent manager of Maison Ikkoku, then WHY TF NOT? She has a healthy bond with her tenants and a job she loves (that presumably provides her a stable income), not to mention she has a hobby (tennis). I don't care what the time period is, fvck her parents and friends and anyone who's telling her what to do with her life.

For the second half of the episode, my conclusion is that: for the first time, Kyoko was kind of a bitch. She's been very, very angry lately. Rightfully so -- all the static and noise around her would wear anyone down. But she shouldn't allow all of the drama to skew her sense of judgment. She's displaying that classic/stubborn/impulsive anime girl trait rn that leads to prolonged character arcs and such. I'm sure there will continue to be understanding between her and Godai -- that's why Kozue's character exists: to create conflict and material for the show to work with. But what peeved me off the most in this episode was Kyoko's reaction to Mitaka. Even if he is the protagonist's competition, I stand by "innocent until proven guilty," and hate impulsiveness and a lack of assessment. And let's say in an alternate reality that Mitaka was flirting with the dog-shop-woman... Kyoko you idiot why wouldn't you confront him?

Anyways, end of rant. I see a lot of people were upset by this episode. In spite of everything I've said, I didn't mind it too much. It wasn't one of the chill episodes, but one with a bit more tension. One that causes discomfort for the viewer, but in a GOOD way -- taking a toll on their emotions and getting them immersed in the story and character interactions. So this episode had a bit more edge than the usual one I guess -- but even-so, I wouldn't call it bad or disappointing. I don't think the episode did TOO much wrong. I just wish Kyoko didn't act like a bitch at the end of the episode.

Then again, I couldn't picture any other alternate endings... knowing this series, it'd feel uncharacteristic if Godai approached Kyoko (on the way home from their dates) and everything went well.

But since so many people were conflicted or affected by this episode in particular, I'd have to say it was quite intriguing in hindsight.

Poor Godai, Yotsuya broke his wall like, WTH is with him always invading the privacy of others?

About Mitaka, I kinda feel bad for him that Kyoko just left on their date without questioning him but ironically, I found that part where he was scared of dogs funny(despite me having cynophobia 😅)

Godai... Poor him, that can Kyoko threw must have hurt really bad, and WTH she wasted those can goodies!😭

Kyouko learning that the guys she seems to be interested aren't that great and ended up resorting to violence and littering xD

So she finally gets that Shun is interested in her, meanwhile Yuusaku finally is starting to understand he shouldn't be playing with Kozue's feelings.

That wall lasted longer than I thought without a new hole.

DRAMAAAAAAA~ But no really, shit just got dramatic with Kyoko in this one lol, as others have stated she’s definitely not innocent but I think Yuusaku is being a bit of a dumbass here parading around with Kozue at the boarding house and then wondering why Kyoko’s mad at the end, and once again Kyoko isn’t much better in going out with Mitaka but still. And I would say “Dammit Yuusaku, just tell Kozue you don’t love her already!” but I know once that happens we won’t be seeing Kozue anymore, and I love Kozue so I don’t want that lol, so I don’t mind Yuusaku hanging out with her for a while longer for this aspect.

Poor Mitaka tho, he was the one who pissed Kyoko off with that misunderstanding and he doesn’t even know it lol, oh well. And yeah ngl I kinda found Ichinose annoying in this one, like do you have nothing better to do than stir the shit? She seems like the type of person no one would want to be around, I typically find her funny but not so much in this one, Yotsuya however made me laugh when he came through the darkness in the hole in the wall lol, he’s a bastard too but at least he’s clever about it.
