Episode got leaked lol.

A girl who jumped onto the train tracks after watching a certain film was sent to a psychiatric ward.

Her twin sister bluntly claimed it was caused by a “curse.” However, only Ameku believed her and began an investigation.

A pleasant surprise to watch this episode in advance.

Another pretty interesting case. So, it wasn't a curse but an epileptic seizure. Well, I didn't expect this show to have some real supernatural elements anyway.

Fortunately, the girls don't have to worry too much about their condition.

"PLEASE KEEP NOISE DOWN" sign. Hehe. Lots of drama between the doctors.

Next episode: Spontaneous Human Combustion. Sounds awesome.

The cause was a bit predictable but it was a nice episode anyway.
Despite the fact that Takoa doesn't like it when people mentioned her looks she certainly knows when to take advantage of them.
Her wearing a school uniform was funny.

Fun fact, just a few hours ago YouTube recommend me to watch a clip from 8 years ago about a woman having a seizure while holding her baby, good thing her baby is safe, but I'm able to get a detail of what's going on, she suddenly stop talking to other people and just standing rigidly and she seems try to move but unable to move, resulting in awkward movement before collapsed several seconds later. So the real curse is YouTube algorithm which somehow determine that I need this knowledge before watching this episode a few hours later. [To clarify, I mostly watch clip like anime or movie trailer or songs in YouTube]

Not as impressive as the first case, but that's to be expected.
The second thing is usually not as good the first, plus the first one in this case was a two-parter...
That's not to say this episode was bad. On the contrary it was great!
It's nice that we switched focus to psychiatry for this case, it keeps the show fresh.
By the way, I forgot to mention it last week, this anime reminds me a lot of NCIS.
I haven't seen many episodes, but from what I've watched, it has a similar style to at least the first case of this series.
It's been more than 5 years since I saw anything related to it, so I don't if they've changed the formula.
I remember being a fan of it then (which makes sense since I'm a fan of this as well!)

its sort of interesting, but i feel like i have been spoiled by going into it thinking it could stand up to house md, which it REALLY cannot. the case was so predictable that i convinced myself it WASNT epilepsy and was let down by how stale and easy to figure out the case was. i hope it was just one boring case and its not gonna be like this the whole show

''A rare type of photosensitive epilepsy, triggered by specific light patterns present in the video." - This reminds me of some anime that include warnings about epilepsy due to visual effects that can cause seizures in some people. thank you for teaching us, takao-sensei 😁

From preview alone I knew this would be about a kind of photosensitive of pattern sensitive induce epileptic seizure and I was right. I didn't know it can cause someone to walk on their own but I also don't find it that surprising just I had trouble finding info on such a thing occurring. The exact type of seizure wasnt named here. The symptoms seem to possibly fit temporal lobe epilepsy, even though focal seizures also can fit too maybe.

I may have had this walking automatism happen to me once. I was feeling faint and was walking but seemingly lost consciousness at some point and when I woke up I was on the floor. Apparently I walked into the wall before falling back but I don't remember it. So hard to tell.

Serafos said:

It can cause all sorts of problems. Like night time driving would be something discouraged for example because headlights and street lights could trigger a seizure. Daytime in certain areas also can cause seizures such as light passing through trees while moving past them fast.

How is falling down some stairs seen as attempted suicide? Anyway, epilepsy huh, didn't expect something so simple but I guess it makes sense. Didn't know you could involuntarily walk because of it though. I had a mate back in Highschool who was epileptic and he would always fall over when he got it, have been there for a few of them, at the bus stop and the beach. Poor guy, don't think he has a license to this day.

I don't think it necessarily means you are prone to photoepilepsy. Do you also feel more sensitive to light, sound, feel nausea or see an aura in your vision ? While not common in males, males can get migraines. It is linked with a drop in testosterone. Flashing lights can trigger it. Having a traumatic brain injury (concussion) also can cause you to be sensitive to light. Also might not even be anything on clinical level just being more sensitive to certain frequencies.

I find it hard to believe someone in a psych ward does not think of epilepsy in our day and age of the smartphone when a patient says they saw something on a screen and blanked out. Seems like Sumida is still not worthy of being a doctor.

Didn't last week's episode become available on Wednesday afternoon or am I missing something? This was out on Tuesday?

As someone with epilepsy for some with people who first experience epilepsy this can be of one symptoms, and this is only scratching the surface of epilepsy there is so many things that trigger epilepsy even doing nothing can trigger one you can just be sleeping and it will occur it can come up any time and go at anytime and if you had epilepsy in the past it can come again say you don't have one for ten years you can suddenly have a seizure for an epileptic person epilepsy will never leave you you can think that it will disappear forever but it won't its a horrible feeling

This was definitely not as strong as the episodes from last week. The case was much more straight forward and predictable. Unless they're a bit more difficult and there's an actual reveal that we can't see a mile off, I feel these could be episodes that feel really long.

Well Jeez Mafuyu, you could have just said you didn't want to watch it.

More seriously, I guessed it was probably something akin to Epilepsy pretty early on. This episode was a little disappointing in how easy it was to figure out compared to the last one

Also good doctor work Ameku, induce an epileptic seizure in your patients on purpose to prove your point

Okay, I've now watched the episode since my last post (and I never received an answer to my question, but it seems from some comments left on this sub-forum and what I saw on Reddit that the episode was leaked a day early).

It was inarguably a much more basic and straightforward episode in in its construction, presentation, reveal, and all the details of the case, but I'm not really disappointed with that as some seem to be and am fine with it. The reason being that it's kind of expected since a lot of these kinds of shows, mystery and drama medical and police serial type shows in live action too, often have a big super complicated case and multi-parter opening episode or episodes and then shortly after usually settle into more simple cases once they've established how crazy and elaborate the show can potentially be with that premiere and get that hook into the audience. They often settle into a little more "calm" and simplistic rhythm, before ramping back up to the bigger cases again. It's hard to think of specific examples right now off the top of my head, but I just sensed and knew immediately that I've seen this pattern played out before multiple times.

Takao could already easily pass as the twins' (or really, anyone's) gremlin middle schooler sister but seeing her in an actual school uniform amplified the effect way more than I was ready for lol.

It's hilarious how on top of the cool case premises, we get to meet a colleague who has been/will be tormented by Takao's Takaoness every week. Can't say I blame that psychiatrist lmao.

This anime specifically reminds me of an American TV series named Dr. House. There’s too much of resemblance:
1. Colleagues do not specifically hate him but don’t want to work with him.
2. The approach towards making a diagnosis
3. The part of logics used to diagnose.
4. The overall work of Ameku is to diagnose the patient and identify which is the same as Dr. House.

How in the hell did the doctors not realize it's epilepsy? Even I figured it out the moment they showed the video, and I ain't even no doctor.
It's like every character in this show has lukewarm iq to make Ameku Takao shine as a genius when it is just common sense.

Imagine, being a doctor and getting banned from entering another ward. lmao
I think the reason why Junko didn't think about epilepsy was that she was too fixated on stress and suicide and didn't check her symptoms carefully enough for this reason.

The book that Takao read in this episode was Glass no Tou no Satsujin. It's one of Chinen Mikito's works. Nice advertisement.

A classic cliché in medical dramas: the brilliant doctor is the subject of doubt despite his accurate diagnosis. Epilepsy is neurological, not mental. The psychiatrist clearly resents Takao for exposing his incompetence. Even after Takao confirmed his diagnosis, the psychiatrist continued to doubt him; it's frustrating. Honestly, even with my limited medical knowledge, epilepsy immediately crossed my mind.

A competent psychiatrist should always consider epilepsy, even in the absence of an obvious history of seizures. The hospital really needs to evaluate whether that psychiatrist should remain on staff; that's not the first time they've made such a serious diagnostic error.

The Ring? What's going on?
The twin survived but something is amiss, why did her identical twin who watched the same video fall onto the tracks. Their mental states had to have ben different, right?
Takao wears a sailor uniform just to get into a ward she's banned from. Her short stature came in handy!

Takao and Kotori both watched the video but while there is shock and gore imagery, there's nothing that could subliminally compel them to suicide. The video has no sound but the twin mentioned a growl. some kind of synesthesia? The second twin has also been in an accident.

Bringing everyone together for her experiment, Takao demonstrates that it wasn't the due to images in the "cursed video" but the rapid flashing lights that caused epileptic seizures and the different reactions where brought about that one twin's stress of studying and breaking up and the other's regret or guilt over causing the accident.

While she did violate the rules, he former supervising physician Sumida was a bit petty to ban her from the psych ward as a penalty.

Novels I have read/am reading pending approval: since November 10 2022

Words cannot express just how much I'm loving this anime!! It's like House M.D. meats Detective Conan and I'm all here for it!! So happy that the anime doesn't only focus on cases where someone ended up dying 😅 Never in my wildest dreams would I have guessed epilepsy was the cause for their accidents!! 😯 Happy the twins got to live to see another day! Oh and don't get me started on much I enjoyed Takao's disguise as a high schooler 😂 I hope she continues to use her young appearance to disguise herself in order to gather information going forward 👍

The mystery wasn't very intriguing, and the investigation was again a little strange.

No one other than Takao thought to actually look at the video? And no one tried to show the video again to any of the twins? With a bunch of cameras and instruments hooked up to measure brain activity? Since none of the doctors believed the curse was real anyway, they could've pushed for that harder, no?

Also, from the fact that 3 different occasions of these "suicide attempts" involved simply walking forward, you don't have to be a genius doctor to realize that this is no curse...

The main character continues to be unlikable and uninteresting. The attempt to humanize her at the end was clumsy and unconvincing. The patient and the side characters are still no better than mannequins.

@Narizor you hit the nail right on the head. I’m not in the medical field at all but epilepsy is common enough that I knew that Takao explained the treatment wrong- they’re still going to need meds to prevent future seizures, I think it’s called tegritol or something?- and the fact that Dr. Sumire has a history of dismissing medical conditions as depression and suicide attempts? She needs to get her license revoked. Also, the girl got to keep her phone, in the psych ward, when one of her stressful triggers was her boyfriend constantly texting her. lol. lmao, even

This anime is just not hitting for me so far. I love mystery shows like House MD or Apothecary Diaries but Takao is introduced as god of medicine when all she does is fix other doctors’ mistakes and act like a jerk towards Takanashi. Takanashi is a flat character and has better chemistry with both Takao’s sister and the young doctor with short blonde hair, yet the anime heavily implies that a romance between Takao and Takanashi is coming. Both the characters and the mysteries feel so… surface-level. And the animation is kind of mediocre as well. Maybe it’ll get better from here but I’m not optimistic

Oh you're right, I completely missed that.

They didn't even show her using it in the hospital, as far as I remember. They just showed her phone lying by the bed, when they didn't even need to...

Also, Takao inducing a seizure while the girls are standing on the hard floor, without warning, is so dangerous. Even I know that people with epilepsy are most concerned about injuries from falling over. They should've had soft mats and nurses at the ready to catch them.

Ah the good ol Cursed video scenerio. I guess from the POV's of others it can appear that Takao and Yuu are dating. As bonds go Twins have the most unique of them. Given her youth Takao fits the image of a schoolgirl rather easily. Someone bound by logic like Sumida would naturally be on bad terms with Takao who see's things differently. Epilepsy being the main culprit sure was quite the conclusion.

@Annabeth_96 Of course, the author made all other doctors dumbed down, so Ameku could shine, the show is not very realisitic in regard of how doctors conducted themselves, sure some doctors could be less competent but not this bad

No one told me this leaked early yesterday smh. Need better anime friends 😢 this episode went by so fast though, it wasn’t as good a case as the first two, but something about it just made it breeze by.

The twins having epilepsy was about what I expected, it’s clearly not a supernatural show and the only explanation for a video doing that is the flashlight lights. Actually crazy to learn that you can have those involuntary movements when seizing up! The sisters both being epileptic was also a nice way to pay off the younger one saying they had nothing in common but their faces earlier in the ep. Epilepsy not exactly something to brag about, but she does share that with her sis lol.

Sumida and Takao beefing in this ep was fucking hilarious. Of course it’s all because takao showed her up in front of a patient in the past. 😂 I’m ok with a resident correcting a supervising physician in private, but she was out of line to embarrass her supervisor publicly like that lmao. Takao better hurry up and make a move with Takanashi though before her older sister does!
