AbemaTV streamed the first episode today. This show is back and Hakuto is here again. Other familiar characters such as Aku makes their appearance. Lol, that "fan service" though. It's been awhile since I've seen Maou-sama Retry but the mood still feels very similar with the humor. But yeah, they focused a lot on Aku and Hakuto's chemistry in this episode. Nothing too special yet. |

Novelist Kurone Kanzaki's Maou-sama, Retry!'s sequel after 5 years since Summer 2019, what a day to see the series still breathing life under a different staff team and more competent studio...or is it? ASCA's OP, as well as MIMiNARI feat. the peggies' Yuho Kitazawa's ED are decent. Hakuto Kunai a.k.a Akira Oono is back with his Infinity Game development story, though this premiere episode is just being a glorified recap and remake of Season 1's premiere episode all over again. His being a Demon Lord and meeting Aku being chased by a demon to save her out of trouble, her temperament is still the same as Season 1, if a touch too different from her original character design being plump now, plus her VA being recast as someone else. At least TsudaKen retains his Demon Lord voice, for someone who is stuck within his own game and being bestowed an evil power from a statue. If anything, Hakuto is still stuck within his game, met Aku and the rest of the gang back in Season 1, though how things will go from there? Is it unkempt for me to say that despite bad animation, I pretty much preferred Season 1 in a nutshell? We'll see how this goes. |

Weird feelings about the first episode. First season was by no means a masterpiece, but I enjoyed it. Either way, I hope I enjoy this season as I did the first one. |

I never thought we'd get a sequel of this after 5 years but it's nice. I remember having decent fun with the first season. This episode we got to see more on the background of mc before getting transported in this world and also the scene with him meeting Aku again. Aku's design has somewhat changed, she looked like Yellow Rem before. They recast some of the characters as well but atleast TsudaKen is still here. Anyway let's see how this season will go and what happens to the girlish boy Yukikaze who can get pregnant. OP/ED were both decent. |

I’m still confused though; is this a sequel season or are we just doing the story all over again? The first episode was definitely recap territory in the second half, and it looks like the last minute or so takes place after season 1 ended… so are we picking up from where we left off or are we going through everything again? (Sorry, just really confused right now because I can’t seem to find a straight answer anywhere) |

So it's series reboot under new studio and source? I guess that's fine but why is it worse than original series years ago... Animation is cheap, feels like a budget gag comedy, the self narration is over the top and even characters look worse, worst of all the genre is already saturated and stale. Shame. |

Always exciting and a bit scary with a new season, I did enjoyed the first one so I'm looking forward to seeing more shitty isekai stupidity. Though it's hard to tell from this episode what we'll be getting, but the new animation does make me a bit concerned. I was a bit surprised by the new studio since i don't really follow news on this stuff, let's just hope this ends up better than "A nobody's way to an exploration hero" did. The quality of that show really fell off after a few episodes and was one of worst shows i watched last season. |

Oh, so it's a sequel but also a light reboot with some slight changes to the beginning and adapting the web manga (according to MAL) instead of the LN and with a different studio... I actually quite liked the art and designs of the original, gave it a unique look from all the other anime (despite its low production value judging from the fight scenes), now it looks like any other generic isekai anime... I read the web novel version of this previously and had not checked out the LN since it got licensed so I think I will check that out before watching this any further. |

EVERYONE GAINED 50LBS WTF! Seriously though, i don't know if i like all the changes to the animation, everyone changed and its hard to recognize all the different characters. And it doesn't seem to be as comedy focused as the previous season which i think will be a negative for it. very interested in this but feeling like its getting off to a bad start. |

The animation definitely seems like a downgrade compared to the first season but the writing might be actually better. The tie in was pretty smooth and we even got some real world backstory bits. |

Not impressed. The changes give me the same feeling that Fruit of Evolution S2 did, and we know how that turned out. Though it's the changes to the character designs that irritate me the most, didn't see a single one that I thought was an improvement. At this point, I don't even feel it's worthy of the 3-episode treatment. It has one more episode to convince me my current judgement is wrong. |

I just have soooooo many questions for example: What was purpose of this episode? - It was just partital and mediocre rework of OG anime start and in the end it just jumped forward to make me like "WTF"... If its sequel why they just didnt made "0" recap episode and then start where it ended?! |

The first anime season was lighthearted and fun, and while not masterful in the general sense, it possessed a mastery of saying plenty enough with a lot fewer words. This anime accomplishes in 1 full episode what the first anime achieves in 5 minutes. The music doesn't fit the vibe of the scenes, the dialogue is overly goofy, and the expressions of the characters rely on meme faces. It's obvious that they ARE trying to capture some of the feeling of the manga's appearance, but for a nice even flow and pure enjoyment, this first episode has made me skeptical. I'm still in it for the long haul, because as far as I can tell, one of my favorite scenes from the manga and LN is going to be in this season, but I got at least 5 volumes into the light novel, and I can say the protracted scene taking over half of this episode with Akira and his friend sets up a thing that still hasn't really been touched on at all in 5 full volumes. This makes me cautious because it shows weak pacing. But, we shall see. |

I binged demon lord retry last night so id be ready for season 2. Such a massive disappointment so far. Art style is worse than season 1. They changed the angel from female to male. Somehow now the demon lord mistakes Aku for being a boy when they first meet? what the heck??? Character outfits are close but again the art style missed it all up. The doctor went from a good looking late 20s maybe early 30s to looking 16 in the outro, Yukikaze and Mikan changed as well. This isn't a season 2. What this is, is demon lord retry reloaded into some other dimension that's more cartoonish. Would it have been that hard to keep the same facts from season 1? Almost like whoever made this never even seen the first season. I'll watch it solely for the dungeon part, maybe it will change my mind about the show, but they got a long hill to climb now. Wouldn't be surprised if majority of details from season one is left out and/or changed now. Also i know its not important but the outdoor hot spring scene was changed, why make it wooden panels in the background instead of it being open like before? |

Super weird to be back in the world of Demon Lord Retry, this was one of the shows I watched back in Summer 2019 and back then I really did not like it lol, but I gave it a rewatch shortly before this came out and while I still had similar issues with it like I did on the first watch, I ended up finding it to be in a “so bad it’s good” territory, like it was very entertaining but for the wrong reasons, but at the same time had some genuinely good comedy and fun characters. Now jump to Fall 2024 and my boys at Gekkou are on this new entry, oh man I feel bad for them lol, I loved everything they made up to “Grandpa and Grandma Turn Young Again” but then they came out with “A Nobody’s Way Up to an Exploration Hero” last season and man, it wasn’t very good lol, enjoyable but by far my least favorite of their works. And now they’re once again saddled with something I would say isn’t their strongsuit, but I am optimistic about this one because it is a nostalgic one for me despite the first season not being great, so I am looking forward to seeing what they do with it. And so far I like what they’ve done, it has a new fresh art style which I personally think is better, it’s made some characters that I thought looked very plain before stand out more like Yu and Tahara, and improved ones I already liked like Luna and Aku, now I’m not sure if I’m sold on the ones that straight up got redesigned like my girls Mink and Killer Queen but I think they’ll grow on me. And when it came to the episode itself, they had me for a bit thinking this was actually starting from the beginning again lol, a lot of it played out almost exactly the same but it was done slightly better imo, but then we flashed to the present where Kunai already acquired his loli companions, I wouldn’t have been against a straight up remake but I like that we’re getting new stuff too from this revamped manga. I also like that we got to see a bit more of what Kunai’s life was like before getting isekaid, that was something the original show was missing. And that was actually a banger OP and ED combo, great visuals and songs, so nice to hear ASCA again and MIMiNARI’s song was great too. Lots of folks are giving this one a lot of shit but if this is anything like the original it will at least be fun no matter how the production looks, so I’m excited to see more. |

What piece of garbage, - The art style is complete different from season 1 - It's like they scaned some pages from the comics and tried to animated - Bluring the faces, still cant understand why. - Unable to understand if this is RECAP, OVA or something else. - It is clear that they are trying to force the story in another direction. Well one thing is clear i will not force to watch this anime, it is just a complete disappointment, already discarded away all media from season one as i am prety sure they will not continue that season. After all this time waiting is this what we get. |

Ok, so I'll be writing out my live reactions to the episode here, so I apologize in advance for sounding like I'm rambling. Man, the animation style really downgraded compared to the first season; but, I know better than to judge a book by its cover so let's see how the story and substance are So first half of the episode is a flashback to his pre-Isekai life years before the Isekai event... interesting stylistic choice with censoring eyes and names. Never thought I'd see the day someone would call somebody "polyester" as an insult, lol What the? The building exploded and there was a cerberus in the fire? Wait- the flashback ended there? But there's still a few things that are not clear. Ah, so this is one of those shows where the MC knows what an Isekai is and is aware of the situation; love it when they do a meta-framing like that "At least let me wipe my hard drive before I go!" Hmmm... yes; doubt that friend of his would have the awareness to drop it in a bathtub for him or something So far, I think i like the first season better; their first meeting felt better written there "Maybe its like, i'll unlock one thing every episode as I defeat foes and I'll go home in the final episode?" Well considering that isn't what happened in season 1- doubt it Don't remember this whole shrine thing; definitely didn't appear in season 1. Did they skip something from the source material back then? Same with that shrine, statue and ring plot point Ok, so it seems the last minute was, in fact, after the events of season one. But the title of the next episode is "restart" so still nowhere closer to figuring out if this is a sequel or reboot yet. But man, these character designs are not as good as last season. Ah well, only thing left to do is be fair and give this show a chance. After all, I can look past the animation if the important elements, the story and substance, are good |

WTF happened to Mikan & Killer Queen’s design? 😭
@Ohayotaku I didn't take note of Killer Queen, but Mikan's design is closer to that of the manga, which was quite different than the anime. While her design in the first anime (and novel reprint) was basically bikini armor, her manga outfit was something one might actually expect an adventurer to wear, and offered full coverage (no bare midriff as in this sequel anime). That was also apparently more in line with her design in the original novel print. It was interesting there was quite a bit of material in the "recap" portion that was never in the first anime (the "real world" segments aside from the short scene where he shut down the game server). |

@Sheol01 Apparently this season is being made by a new studio, but they are definitely changing the style relative to the first season. Can't say I'm impressed to be honest- there were some shots where it looked like the animation quality is worse. Interestingly, someone else has said that some design changes were to make it closer to the manga, so that could be a possible reason. Hope this helps clear things up |

Man, I am so conflicted. I really wanted a second season of this show but what the hell happened? Why the hell did they recast almost everyone? Luna was my absolute favorite the first season, I loved Kaori Ishihara voicing her and the OP sung by her and now she's gone... :'( I'm not a fan of the new art style or the redesigns we've seen this episode. Maybe they will grow on me. Now, about the episode... The flashback was kind of interesting but then we had a recap of the first episode for some reason. Like, I don't remember that much from the first season but was it really necessary? Wouldn't it have been better to do a episode 0 recap or something? The best part of the episode was of course Luna undressing and being a tsundere <3. OP and ED are nice. I really liked the OP song. So there's that. I remember being really excited about the news of the sequel and then that excitement going away with the news of the recast. Now having the anime here... I don't know, we'll see. |

The second half of season 1 was so boring I put it on the same level as Deathmarch and Cheat Magician. I'll give it a chance to see if it gets better. Though not sure why they had to waste the entire episode one a flashback recap of season 1. |

I only rated the first series a 6/10, nothing special but a decent enough watch for me to check out the next show. Honestly this sucked. All the character designs are noticeably worse, the music is downright awful at times almost like random noises that's a little too loud relative to the dialogue, Maou-sama is quieter in general is the VA sick? The real life scenes were just obnoxious with all the faces blurred and names censored. Plus it dragged on way too long. There better be some pay off in this season so it was at least worth sitting through them. I can't imagine the partial recap is much help to new viewers unless there will be more later to cover other key moments, which at that point they should've just rebooted. Bigger issue for me is everything this studio did in the recap that was done in season 1 was noticeably worse on every level. Not a great start. |

I skimmed through the recap part and didn't bother watching the real world recalling the past scene that was randomly inserted into here when it wasn't even in the prequel. I do NOT like recaps. Even setting that aside, none of the new content was good, worse? The animation and art style sucks massively now. It wasn't anything special in S1 sure, but it was still good, clean, easy to SEE (As in, looked 1080P and clear) but here, its rough, looks blurry (480p at points, and slightly below 720P for the rest) and then they add in those still shots and while I can't recall if S1 had those chibi designs (for humor), even if it did I bet it was done BETTER in S1 than here. I really have come to dislike the use of still shots and chibi still shots ever since Senpai is an Otonoko over used both but even if THAT wasn't an issue, the art style change is just SUCH A DOWNGRADE and SO MUCH WORSE than S1! :( Legit took a moment to some of the chars becus their design is THAT dif from the OG and is WORSE, hands down, period, WORSE. Idc if some or all match the OG source material, this is a legit downgrade. Heck, at least with DxD's art change the designs were not THIS bad (Minus one or two who weren't recognizable at first) and the art, quality and animation was still GOOD... here, Retry REALLY needs to RETRY its friggin EVERYTHING becus its THAT bad. So much so, I can easily see myself dropping this or end up hating it and saying what a waste of my time and someone's money. Please bring the OG studio back if this new one can't handle the quality from the 1st season. Its bad enough minus Hakuto's OG VA, that everyone's VA was replaced, which is a dang shame as they were GOOD and imo, a good and perfect match for the chars. TL;dr, everything here is worse than S1 and the new studio either needs to Retry the animation, art, designs and everything or give it to the OG studio or another who WILL make it in line (or better) with S1's everything. *Sigh* What a massive let down. :( |
