Dude Shackle was playing with our bro Shin lmao.

Time for a mid-prison training arc maybe then?

Shin can't even beat this guy how'll he fight the order or main villains lol. Better train and get the fortune teller to train him fast.

Damn what Shin was doing didn't even qualify as "messing with" Jo Shackles (what a name lol). Dude was just toying with our boy, he's gonna have to try harder than this to get sent to the lower levels.
People on MAL refuse to actually enjoy watching anime.

Your taste in anime isn't a personality trait.

MAL is literally just anime Twitter as its own website lol.

Too short! Loved it all the same. This guy in unhinged, seems like he could be the main villain of the arc.

I THOUGHT WE'D BE EATIN GOOD with KINO ACTION between hard boiled bomb bro and shin/heisuke but SIKE! This fight between Jo and Shin was phenomenal. Very exciting fast paced chapter, love it.

Well said my man, I think from here on out if this Jo guy is involved in a chapter, we'll be getting some incredible action!

@GoCrayzee yeah he seems like the magellan (impel down) of this arc, or at least this floor anyway. maybe the other floors have even tougher guards than this guy.

What a badass. Suzuki can snap his fingers and create these incredible characters I swear. I wonder if he is a former assassin?

Indeed just another peaceful day at the prison xD

Also, Shin chose the best way but yeah, I think he shouldn’t have let his intentions known.

Is it me or has the art for this manga in the last several chapters been pretty mediocre? The storytelling has also been feeling lazy at times, like that character who magically woke up from a coma, etc. I'm starting to wonder if the author is getting burnt out.

@Beatnik no? the art was only mediocre for that one chapter during uzuki's flashback because it was an unfinished chapter, other than that the art looks better than how it used to. and as far as kindaka goes, i think it was pretty obvious that he would wake up from the moment it was revealed that he was alive like over 40 chapters ago. as far as writing goes, it's not any different than sakamoto magically going slim among countless other things from this series, i.e rule of cool just as usual.

@ryzxgum

The art in the first half of the manga was cool and dynamic, but now it feels like every character is drawn in a rush, with sketchy looks. Take the evil prison guard for instance, he looks like a background extra instead of a main character. Hard Boiled and Heisuke also feel thinly sketched lately. If you go back to something like chapter 100, Shishiba's fight with Yotsumura has detail in the characters, the action looks clean, and feels like what you expect from shonen, but lately I just don't feel any magic coming off the pages.

As for lazy writing. You don't just have a character wake up for no reason, you need to initiate it, no matter how superficially. I.e - if there was a fight that took place in his room, and his bed got nudged, or he got hit in the face, then you could use that to explain him waking up later. But the author just doesn't even bother, and has him wake up exactly when the characters need him to.

Set-up and pay-off are fundamentals of storytelling. And when they're lacking it just feels like the author is going through the motions at the moment. Going floor by floor in a prison is a decent idea for shonen, but it's a shame the actual protagonist of the story is missing for it.

I'm basically losing interest. I don't think the whole Slur story arc is enough to sustain a manga for so many chapters, it should have transitioned to something else by now, in the same way that say, Naruto eventually stopped being preoccupied with Orochimaru and moved on to other villains.

@Beatnik it's not a rush, that sketchy look is the artstyle and it makes the characters look a lot better than they used to in the first half. take slim sakamoto, shin and gaku for example, they used to look different in almost every appearance and quite rough, now there's an emphasis on their features more. and yeah, that's the point of the prison guard's design lol it's quite blatant, even shin mentions that he looks like an ordinary office worker. he's seemingly normal look is supposed to clash with his strength and aggressive personality to make him come off as more weird. it's even in the name 'jo shackles'...are you getting it? ordinary joe.

that's not how people wake up from comas, there's literally no need for it to be that dramatic. you are aware that some people in comas can hear you, you can even say nagumo's monologue got through to him plus there was a fight in the room earlier so if that's what you really want then case closed.

it's literally not, shin and heisuke need their own development. i don't see how sakamoto fits in anywhere here anyway. this arc's setup has heavy similarities to alice in jails arc from baccano vol.8 and even that doesn't have the main protagonist a part of it. the deuteragonists having their own arc is something i wish more shounen did.

losing interest is fine, can't say i care but you're gripping at straws with all the objective points. orochimaru is such a terrible example, if you wanna make a sensible comparison, you would have used aizen since its following a similar structure to bleach and not naruto where the final boss was being setup right from the start. plus asaki/the JAA is the really villain behind him.
