So Viole became a slayer simply because he simply "had to become one". That's at least according to Hwa Ryun...

Wangan is also mocked for not being on the same level as Viole. Episode had introduced also one of the most powerful entities of the Tower. It looks like the episode's objective is to find Zygaena's flower. Tbh, felt like the episode had a strange pacing with some minor comedy moments added in.

Well, let's say that tantrum from Yihwa was totally unnecessary, but hey, it kind of played in the favour of Hwaryun and Jinsung, so… good for them at least lol. Also, I mean at this point someone has to know what Viole is and what these people are asking him to do, and most importantly what he went through over all these years, so an important bit from the adaptation’s perspective.

Still they fucking skimmed over everything, and it didn’t even feel like there was any tension in that talk between Wangnan and Hwaryun, sigh. Just shows the state this adaptation is in at this point. Don’t even remember much from manhwa but I’m sure they did a good job in explaining the rules of this Zygaena test. Seriously lol, this has to be the worst paced episode this season, being generous.

Urek is here, if nothing. And yeah, they’d conclude this arc next episode, 100 percent.

Cat's out the bag now.

My fuck is Yihwa actually the most dense person we've met in this series thus far. And there are plenty of dense people in this show we've met already. At least everyone else was accepting of Hwaryun and the other guy. Though, now it is clear as day that they're just using Baam as a puppet. Nothing more, nothing less.

Introductions and backstory done and over with, we're back to the game at last. Though, would it really be a Tower of God game without some outside interference... No because actually why is the security for these games worse than Netflix's lol. Some Gilgamesh ripoff just with a hat at the end...

How will Baam get out of this one alive?

Yihwa entering into FUG's hideout unknowingly after stalking Viole, she's may not be intimidated by the other members, but having the other members to meet Wangnan and the others, it's definitely a weird case.

Jinsung and Hwaryun meeting the rest of the gang in Yihwa's place, Wangnan is definitely taken aback by how FUG is like, though at the moment, they could be eradicated along the way on the road to kill Jahad and eclipse the Tower as a Slayer. Bam's plight soon comes to light of not just how he's affected by Rachel's betrayal, but of him being given a new identity from Hansung, as well as Jinsung and Hwaryun to accompany him along that cruel journey to climb the Tower.

The next test taking place in the middle of the ocean, on top of Zygaena the Deep-Sea Fish to retrieve flowers to pass, but this flower is not so easy to get as such from a running pig, on top of a strong enemy that Horyang and Prince met that can contend as one of the strongest of the Tower, but that he's hiding within Zygaena from possible commotion. Instead, Wangnan knows that Viole can't retake a test because one of his friends will die, and he faces the strong enemy head-on.

One strong fight incoming for Viole...

Pacing once again suffered this episode and moments that should have some amount of weight to them, feel weightless with how everything is paced and directed. Creatures that looked so good in season 1 and added to the world building strongly from the very first episode till the end there, look really mediocre here and not animated that well that it feels really underwhelming as a result. Tower of God's pacing though even in the first season, struggles when it comes to tests and this episode was no exception here in the latter half with the Zygaena's Flower Test. Music on its own was good but once again, the way it is mixed with the editing and the overall visuals and animation in this series feels somewhat disconnected. At least the cliffhanger itself with Baam confronting Urek Mazino was fine with the music really carrying the moment there from Kevin Penkin more than anything animation/drawing-wise. Hope the next episode can somehow find a way to deliver on the action front and make Urek's character shine there alongside Baam/Viole's.

There was at least a bit more of FUG shown with the elements of threat being there underneath the surface beyond Jinsung and Hwaryun's meeting with Baam's teammates, with their own complex politics at hand to deal with. Episode also shows how Baam was basically caught in all of that previously to be forced into a terrorist organization like that against his will, for the sake of protecting his friends he made earlier. Hansung was quite the shady character from the start and this episode affirmed all of that. These moments were definitely needed to characterize Baam in more detail and present anime-onlies with some clarity with why Baam had been acting the way he did, alongside displaying some of the complex background elements taking place at the Tower there on a political front. That sense of struggle Viole is going through did resonate a bit with Wangnan and he wants to be supportive of him now knowing what he went through. His character motivations shined a bit better here than how Wangnan reacted to the Lurker situation two episodes ago. All of this content in the webtoon was really good and interesting to read through, just that the anime hasn't presented it in a great way that makes me feel the same way as when reading it. If moments can actually be let to linger more or have even a bit more animation put into them without relying on cheap looking stills and panning shots, the series could have benefitted a lot from that.

okay this doesn't make any sense, all these reviews are negative yet most people still gave it a 5/5 so either some people are trolling or this is just the vocal minority although I do admit the animation is lacking and story is weirdly paced but heck what can you do but hope and pray the part 2 gets the talent that it deserves cause this arc even in the webtoon is pretty whatever the next arc is pretty much the arc that made tower of God . well part 2 arc and season 3 arc

Papa Jinsung is here! I expected his voice to be a lot deeper than what we got and I think the anime failed to capture just how scary he can be as a high ranker (lack of any intimidating aura), but they're doing a good job with Hwaryun. Poor Viole, can't imagine what it's like living with a criminal organization breathing down your back and controlling the way you move.

Kevin, as always, did a great job with the OSTs. Love the beats when Karaka and Urek appeared. The directing and animation, of course, is still very lackluster...once again, there are so many face shots and zoom-ins that it's distracting. Honestly pretty anxious to see how the next episode will go...some people seem weirdly convinced all the budget will go into adapting Urek's scenes well.

@Xiao I think jinsung voice actor is kamina from gurren lagann but I'm not too sure also I'm starting to doubt this anime even had a budget in the first place I can't even say the animators didn't care more like they weren't giving enough money to care so I'm blaming Crunchyroll with this one also also expectations for urek are at an all time low so as long as the animation is decent then that would be an absolute win .

edit : I think Kevin took all the money 😆

@Xrotics_13- Yeah it's confirmed, Jinsung's VA is Katsuyuki Konishi, who'd voiced Kamina and Uzui Tengen. Crunchyroll, the producers, or whoever don't seem to care about giving any manhwa a decent adaptation at all, aside from Solo Leveling...but that might also just be due to A-1 Pictures being such a great studio. But yea, Kevin, alongside some of the VAs, are carrying this anime hard on its back.

I enjoyed it! JINSUNG IS FINALLY HERE!! Best mentor-dad on the planet and baby himbo man Urek Mazino! God I hope they don't fumble the fight next episode. The pacing sped up a little this time. It was alright, better than the mess that was episode 4. Hard-hitting scenes felt a little floaty, too, and though I love what we've heard of the OST so far, some of them feel out of place, or far too suddenly cut in to add proper value to the scenes they're in. Like the scene where Karaka appears on the other roof - they could have used a more menacing sound, or even silence, rather than something so energetic and action-oriented, when nothing's happening on the screen lol

BUT There are four things they robbed us of that I can't reconcile:

  • Yeon Yihwa faceplanting onto the floor after Viole knocks her out and Jinsung telling him he's rough with girls lol
  • Jinsung sleeptalking while snoring, praising Viole in his sleep for doing something good in his dream and his asking Wangnan if he uses Twitter lmao
  • Miseng getting a piggy back ride from Viole, who she trusts wholeheartedly 🥹 COME ON that was the best part of this segment
  • All of Viole's missing funny reactions... they left him there like 🧍 when he's anything but...

To be honest, I'm starting to believe that the reason the animation is so frame-y and zoomed in all the time is less about budget and more about the size of the animation studio. Maybe they're really small? so they were forced to take shortcuts with the animation production to meet deadlines. Because, there are times they show that they are competent enough to deliver some good animation, but likely just didn't have the time to dedicate to it. (the anime was only in production for just under 2 years.)

Damn this episode was fire, finally got the backstory about Bam joining FUG, Yihwa’s powers, and the next exam started.

Yihwa talking about dude’s perm was taking me out man she was literally gonna die on that hill if Bam ain’t knock her dumb ass out lmao. Probably not a good idea to talk shit to high rankers when you can’t even control your powers

So Bam basically ain’t have much of a choice in terms of joining FUG. It was that or let his friends die. “We could start by killing Rachel” um that’s a good thing not a bad thing no way he turned that down 😭 bam my boy what’re you doing man she betrayed you there is no redemption

So the next exam is them going into a giant fish god to get a flower.. what could possibly go wrong. Also no way they had sonic rings in there lmao. New dude Uzek Manzino looks like he’s gonna be a crazy fight. Hopefully next week pacing is better because it did feel like they crammed a LOT in this one. I appreciate the lore, but it was a rapid fire ep

@Hikarizu The bass line was popularized by Blade, yeah. It's known as the "TB-303" sound in the composing world, made by the Roland TB-303 synthesizer. Kevin Penkin, the composer, said he loved the synth and sampled its sound for ToG lol

The track itself is called Guardian on the Season 1 OST, you can hear the whole thing here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y45B9hEkPY8

At this point I can't see how this will get any better sadly. At some scenes the animation was basically a semi-power point presentation, the OST's are still used randomly for a few seconds and are cut abruptly while the constant face zoom-ins are getting really obnoxious. Looks like the next episode will show us either a decent fight for once against some Gilgamesh rip-off or just another disappointment as usual.

@GTRaijin I think you should stop watching now it's clear that you don't like it so why continue to watch it . it's okay to say a show is bad but when the bad outweighs the good that's when it's fair to drop something instead of saying it's shit every week why not just drop it and say it wasn't for you and you weren't it's target audience . look I have nothing against you the only reason I'm calling you out is because I have seen you commenting for a while now and it's only negative stuff. since this season started you have never talked about what you liked just about what you disliked and at that point I personally would just drop it since I'm not enjoying it but hey that's just me

I know I’m a bigger fan of Solo leveling because I read the Manwha, but man it feels so unfair how another goated Manwha’s gets adapted by a no name new studio whereas Solo Leveling was adapted perfectly by A1. It’s not horrible, but a series like Elusive Samurai shows how animation can elevate a series

Got a big reveal in this episode in regards to Bam being part of FUG as Viole now, I was thinking this might not be something we get all the answers on for a while but I’m glad to finally learn what our boy has been going through. And unfortunately the reveal was an upsetting one, so Bam was pretty much forced down this path or his friends from the first season would all bite the dust one by one, and this is the case for the tests he’s currently taking as well, meaning he can’t fail any of them. A rough situation for sure, but since Wangnan now knows about this, Viole isn’t alone in his fight anymore.

I also enjoyed the new lad Jinsung, he seems a bit sus but was mostly chill, he talks about Viole like I talk about the Grateful Dead lol, talk so much people start walking away. Yihwa’s flamethrower tantrum was also fun, hopefully everyone escaped that with no third degree burns lol. And it’s finally time for the next test, taking place inside a massive sea monster revered as a god is pretty metal but I kinda wish it looked a bit cooler, it’s cry at least sounded cool but I definitely heard Godzilla in there lol, the horn sound is nice tho. And once inside everyone kinda went their own ways, with one group hunting a little pig-like monster and the other coming across a backwards hat wearing lad, and you know a backwards hat means we got a badass over here lol, next one should be exciting, hopefully they deliver on what I’m assuming is a fight because this episode did look a bit rough.

Was an okay episode pacing felt more coherent but they're still wasn't much time for moments to soak in. They want this new team for Bam to have so much comradery but this show does an abysmal job at showing it. Lots of stiff animation 24/7 in this episode until when get some effects from Bam and this new guys powers. I don't expect much for the fight next week. It's a shame that this arc isn't well handled or animated because back when I read this part I remember enjoying it. But hey at least we got some new locations in that is honestly one of my favorite things about tower of god showing us the vast world they live in.

The pacing is terrible, the animation is shitty and the overall adaptation leaves a lot to be desired. As a fan of the manhwa I'll have to admit that the series is not the best one for a one to one adaptation, but what we are getting is stinking garbage. The things that should be shining when animated (the shinsu skills and fights overall) have been the parts that suffer the most, the most basic things such as transitions and such are jarring to watch and the overall LOD is non-existent. This TOG season has been so far the polar opposite of what Madhouse did to Frieren...

On a different note (as others have pointed out), I also had a different voice in my mind for Ha Jinsung (not that Kamina has a bad voice), in my mind he sounded less straightforward, a lot more like Sakurai Takahiro (Oshino Meme, Kururugi Suzaku, etc.) or maybe a cool Shinichiro Miki (Roy Mustang, Kaiki Deishuu, Urahara Kisuke, Mikisugi Aikurou, Dingo, etc.).

Wagnan's face was a bit off in a scene (walking), in general the faces where low quality throughout multiple scenes and frames.

The top down Akraptor scene should've been the standard for quality.

Also agree with some scenes being oomph or weight, e.g. balcony, monsters falling, meeting Mizano. Maybe due to the timing or lack of expressions/music.

Still an enjoyable watch though.
