Ai, I wish nothing but the best for you and your little admirer.

And yeah, these army dudes are cruel. Poor alien dudes.. :(

That soldier should be court martialed at the least. What the hell was he thinking? Evil cliffhanger to end on.

Poor little alien man T.T
Ai is adorable and so is Black Knight
I also have to point out how that was some of the best English voice acting I've heard in an anime, it actually sounded real lol

Next episode adapts the soldier chapter! This episode was great, focusing on a side character while also starting to make us questions
-why do people feel the need to protest for destruction of the mothership? Isn't that the goal of the government?
-why are the invaders not responding to the communication?
The story is very subtle about its complexity of the invasion so I recommend from now on to truly pay attention for anything anyone says since I know some manga readers completely missed the point sometimes
I love how they adapted the chapter (yes most of the episode was 1 chapter) except for the Kiho image not being focused on enough
There is lyrics for the OP! The OP is perfect, every song related to the anime is perfect

I suppose because it hasn't been destroyed yet.

Hey, for once, Crunchyroll actually bothered with the signs being subtitled after 7 episodes of doing nothing about it. That's some kind of progress I guess, even if it should have been done from the very beginning and the subtitles in question earlier were proper and not dubtitles.

Quite the striking cliffhanger at the end there given the relative tone of the episode. We've seen themes like what was indicated with the cliffhanger with questioning humanity as evil and cruel in other series based on the actions taken by the soldier and army but the execution was solid here and sets up the next episode well. The date was a nice little scene here, even if it had a pretty somber ending to it all. Good to see Ai's character a bit more in detail here and her date with Mojiya was surprisingly decent to watch, even if the ending was a bit somber as a whole. I will say, for someone that's read a lot of Inio Asano and disliked the majority of it severely like Punpun, Solanin, etc, this is not only the only series I actually found decent but the anime has had me enjoying it a bit more than I expected too given how long it has been since I read the DDDD manga. Some of the nuances present here are interesting to watch without being forcefully fed some themes in an excrutiating fashion or having really dull, unlikable characters to follow all around. This series compared to others I have read from him does feel like a breath of fresh air and besides maybe the execution of episode 0, nice to seeing this adaptation being done well enough for the time being.

In case youre wondering, the invaders speak in reverse. The one that got shot was trying to beg the soldier to spare the other ones life

@animejas yes, the show looks like it is very unsubtle with it's themes but under the surface the themes are way more interesting

HOLY SHIT WE GET TRANSLATIONS FOR THE TEXT?!

Those American tourists were funny. I love how they were waving and thinking they're talking about how much they love Japan why they're literally shitting on Japan lol.

The dude that asked the girl on the date wasn't bad but it just wasn't the right time. Maybe if the aliens never came he might've had a chance?

Also, RIP Alien. That soldier shot on reflex I guess.

Man this episode had me so worried that something bad was gonna happen with Ai and Mojiya after how dark the last episode got😭 thankfully we good for now.

Before that tho, the teacher and Kadode have such a weird relationship lmao. He did mostly ignore her today, but that episode where he brought her back to the crib was so odd.. 69 God lmao.

Mojiya and Ai date was actually really sweet, I was rooting for my boy and even though Ai isn’t ready for a relationship, I thought it was handled so well. He’s straight up with her about how he feels and doesn’t get all anime-y stuttering and saying nvm or anything, just a proper hs level confession. Appreciate her honesty too, even though it feels like it was a while ago, in universe Kiho death is still very raw and the sudden nature of it would scar anyone. Best to take time and heal and everything else will fall in place, Mojiya seems like a genuinely awesome guy so I’m sure he’ll find someone soon

I was scared something bad would happen to Ai’s brother when he wasn’t at home when she called 😭 luckily he was just gaming with Kadode and Ontan, but damn they should’ve left her a text or something lol. Nice wholesome episode until that ending

The top brass and military are so dumb for how they’re treating the invaders. I say it every week and I’ll say it again, picking a fight with a race of beings advanced enough to travel across the universe is so stupid. The Americans were dumb for nuking the ship and now the JDSF policy of shooting them on sight is horrible too. Makes me lose all sympathy for what’s gonna eventually happen based on episode 0.

Need more info about the time loop stuff soon too!

@animejas Good thing the English dub is doing all those things.

I liked this episode though as it shows the dangerous of miscommunication.

@Marinate1016 Perfectly portraying soldiers in the real world. It's kind of scary how acts of war are casually committed sometimes.

I know they're trying to make us feel sympathy for the aliens, but they did an awful job given what we know from last episode.

1) We KNOW they have a way to communicate with humans already, yet for 3 years they've never responded to any communications

2) They sit ominously above the city & refuse to make their intentions known.

3) As admitted to the 2 girls, despite how nice they seem, they ARE here to judge humans & potentially bring harm if they deem them unworthy

4) They've also brought dangerous technology, even allowing a child to use it as she wishes... Doing nothing to stop her as she killed innocent people derailing a train, killed someone in a hospital, went out at night to hurt others, and injured a band just so her friend didn't have to go to a concert. That's pretty "cruel," but I guess their experiment & observations were more important.

So for the alien in hiding to beg to be spared (or to spare his wife) is silly, as they've refused to provide any way for humans to even understand them, much less hear their plea for help. They've also not made clear their intentions, and their loitering above the city is clearly unwanted (as seen by the years worth of efforts going into trying to deter them or shoot them down). For them to ignore that & continue asserting themselves like this doesn't make the army bad for responding in force.

The writing is definitely TRYING to make you sympathize with them & the children, even writing basic characters (like the American tourists) to be completely obnoxious to really sell how awful humanity is. But I don't feel sorry for the aliens getting shot. If they wanted to avoid that, they had 3 years to relieve that tension & provide any communication whatsoever.

Instead, they CHOSE to keep people in the dark & assume the worst.

@THE_BigDingus rewatch ep4, the story already calle them out in Ontan's speech about marshmellows, I read the entire manga and can say for certain that don't worry and people who say the invaders are innocent chose to not pay attention to the story, I can't say more due to spoilers but don't worry, the story left those things on purpose

Surprised that this is how they followed up last week's cliffhanger. Rather than just explaining what that was. They're just doing whatever they want with the sequence of events in this adaptation. Hopefully they don't wait long before explaining things otherwise viewers will just find it frustrating.

Good to see Japanese text finally being translated. The subs are still pretty awful. Very noticeable when the foreigners were speaking English and the subs barely matched what they were saying.

Anyway, solid episode.

The episode was nice, but the previous 2 episodes with the flashbacks are way better and it's the thing I want to see the most in this anime, I'm more interested in the dark thriller stuff from the last 2 episodes, in the present it's mostly Slice of Life.

Still, this is a nice anime and I rate it an 8/10 so far.

Poor little alien :( That soldier deserves a fucked up death lol

Also I didn't realize that. Did that guy on the roof really look like that idol? I really can't remember now. Oh and hearing English really caught me off guard lol some of the best English I've heard in any anime, along with the English in Megalobox, I think it was good there too

@animejas So glad things are finally translated and I don't have to ask here and hope someone can translate the on-screen text for me. That being said though, the subtitles are still pretty bad in some parts

Nice episode again with the main focus being Ai this time. She's a really sweet girl, caring for her brothers and family before herself. The guy seemed really nice and into her so maybe someday they can be together. That ending scene though. I get the feeling the aliens might make their move soon.

How dare these foreigners shit talk the Japanese.

I feel sad for the aliens. They seem harmless but they get killed. Is this anime allegorical?

@patkarunungan it is allegorical... But I encourage watching forward before coming to conclusion about what the allegory is
