Kafka's berserk kaiju form is terrifying. The fight with General Shinomiya wasn't even close. But I bet he can get bigger and stronger.

So, Kafka will now become a living weapon for the Defense Force. About what I expected to happen. Hope he'll prove to them that he's a human soon.

Man, Kaiju No. 8 was a very fun anime. Sure, it has many of the usual shonen tropes. But it didn't try hard to be something that it wasn't. I liked how it was just straight-up a good anime. The characters are fun, the action is great and the animation and OST are also great. But not really anything groundbreaking. But I still loved watching it every week. My favorite character is probably Kafka himself.

I'm glad a sequel was announced. Probably will be a while before it releases, unfortunately. Can't wait to see it.
@0451 The pacing ended it at chapter 38~, there's 109 chapters and counting currently: I feel like they might announce it for Fall or maybe Winter 2025

Yeah I don't usually say this but this final episode was lame. I feel the higher ups are being dumb. No one asks how he has became like that? They legit thought trying to kill him was a good test to see if he was a monster or not? God everyone was being an idiot. Like Kikoru's dad was going to lose his life because he taught gaslighting someone was a bright idea.

Also he needs to prove himself? I'm sorry what? Bro legit saved them from being nuked and has killed other major Kaijus. What the fuck they are on? This is basically solo levelling of this season. Where only people who watch it for mindless action and good animation enjoy it. Writing doesn't matter because it is probably one of the most generic and predictable battle shounen.

This is one of the most basic level writing I have seen in anime and manga. It almost feels like the writer was not even trying. But just because the art and fight are good, it sells well.

I'm already catch upto latest chapter of the manga. It is still generic and predictable, it's get even worse later. So any hope of series turning good, or suddenly becoming completely different from it's previous season is loss.
@The_Keyman-1 Nah Solo Leveling had mroe going than this. This is just someone using pretty art to cover their below average writing skills. Like this whole episode could have played out if they didn't think starting a fight with him was a bright idea. Also...who says so what to whole squad nearly dying to some monster nuke.

Boy you read the whole manga and then get upset that the anime is a normal battle shonen? Maybe stop wasting your time with stuff you don't like.
@SenpaiTM Maybe he likes Shonen and even battle shonen has shown at times to be more than friendship and long drawn fights.

I feel bad for Mina getting treated like that by the higher-ups, she can't even sit well smh. Tho it's nice to see Kikoru's dad still have a heart than all of those boomers. Kafka Hibino, alive.

Now to prove himself worth to be the part of them surely a difficult part. Moreover since we know those Number. 9 is slick af. Hopefully the next part, quality be more improving, or at least still the same good. Gonna prepare for more daikaiju to come....

Really enjoyed this season.

Could have done with less screaming at Kafka this episode.
Also, it was not exactly explained how he overcame the kaiju inside him at the end.

Other than minor plot related wobbles. Solid episode and a solid season.
9/10
Get excited, I suppose.

@KikiSohma as he was "dying"/being taken over by the kaiju, he had a memory or something of mina. it was powerful enough to "wake him up" and allow himself to regain control

i really liked this. this is an easy 8/10, maybe higher. (i don't really do 10/10 ratings, and 9/10's are pretty rare)

i absolutely loved the humor throughout. except the final 2-3 episodes, there was none. it was pretty nerve-wracking, actually, even though i had to know kafka was going to survive somehow. and nothing really gets you amped up like a one-punch-man-style death blow to some giant kaiju delivered by kafka

hoping next season the whole rookie class is back together. i like them

at the end, kaiju 9 said it was some sort of kaiju weapon/power thing that kafka "inherited"? i wonder what exactly's going on there... NO SPOILERS NO SPOILERS NO SPOILERS. also curious why that weird dragon fly kaiju chose him in the first place ("i found you") and why it was trying to take over his body in that fight against the director

@HagePotPotato

Yes, the "mental" take back was obvious from the episode.

I meant the "physical" take back of control since the Kaiju inside him "ate him".

For example, did he crawl back out of the inside Kaiju?
Did he harness control from inside the inside Kaiju by, I dont know, forcing his willpower into a weak point?
That sort of thing.

If it is just by the power of friendship, then it makes it a little weaker of a turning point.
Seeing how he took back over after snapping back to reality ((ope, there goes gravity)) after remembering Mina would have been more interesting in my eyes.
The power of friendship is overdone in many shounen.
Get excited, I suppose.

Well just as Ichikawa, I was also expecting for Kafka to come out of such dilemma successfully. Kafka's reactions meeting Shinomiya's dad though after the fight (in his human form) was kinda cringe-y and humorous honestly, maybe because we all know his nature of being comedic and care for others, that seriously all this cautiousness towards him all feel like a joke (at least to me). I'm quite touched too regarding Mina's speech and elated knowing that most of the Third Division members were on Kafka's side, especially what Hoshina just announced about what other units future take will be on their team if in case they'll discover that a kaiju is working with them. Looking forward to the sequel! Hopefully it will be very soon! đź–¤

No.8 is the most 7 of 10 of the more recent jump animes to come out same with the family ive seen them all these years and just never felt interested in reading them ,but with how hard this series is being pushed they did not hold back on making it look /sound good which heavily carried a pretty standard plot

i'll keep watching it over going to read my only hope is they balance out the other characters more outside of a few standout members Kafka is busted meanwhile most of the supporting members are like grunt level in terms of power

@KikiSohma if it's obvious than you already know what happened

there is no proof that any of that was "'physical'" and not "'mental'" (i.e., the entire scene took place inside of his head/mind as the kaiju was taking control). i think it's unlikely that that "inside the kaiju['s]" stomach was literal. no 8's body wasn't large enough for Kafka's actual body to be sinking down 10-20ft below the surface of whatever fluid that was inside the dragon fly kaiju's "stomach". to me it wasno different than

mental vs physical is an unnecessary distinction to make. it doesn't matter if he climbed out of a mental or physical stomach. the only reason he would've been able to do that was because of his memory of Mina that snapped him out of it (whatever "it" was)

Decent ending.

Anyways I really I enjoyed the season, its nothing special.
But I'm a sucker for old school shounen type, and having an adult protagonist is refreshing. The supporting cast have been great as well, which really sells it for me.
Ofc Production I.G is goat.

Ngl I almost spit out my drink when Gen Narumi made his debut here in this episode, he looks so goofy compared to the manga lmao. His hair and eyes....anyways decent episode, a solid ending for the season.

Overall, this anime contains zero originality for a battle shounen, but somehow it was still pretty entertaining to watch. The character designs are a disappointment, but the great animation makes up for it somewhat. Hoshina hard carried this show for me in the entertainment factor, otherwise my score would definitely be lower by a point or two.

@MasterHavik I don't like the show at all myself, but I think I can defent the point here. They needed to push him to his limits to see if he would become a Kaiju at that point or not (compared to nuke, where he did everything consciously). And it worked, he almost became actual Kaiju. If it happened on the battlefield - they all would be dead, but now he and others know this might happen so they will be prepared for that.

I enjoyed it. Nothing really special conceptually but I liked the protagonist and the show often had nice visuals.

It's wild to me that they stretched what is essentially an origin story to a 12 episode season. Think about how in comic book movies they're able to do this within 1 and a half to 3 hrs. 12 episodes here was overkill for the story to get to the point where Kafka would be accepted. I would have preferred to have seen more of Kaiju no 9 and a whole lot less of the training stuff or Kafka's squad. Also, soundtrack needs major improvement in season 2. I'm not only talking about the OP and ED. Like, the actual music during the action scenes was kind of ass.

It is, but what are the alternatives?
1. Try to kill him when he is human and he could possibly turn into Kaiju and now there is no turning back to be friendly with Kafka (although he is dumb, probably he would be like "yea, let's go, Mina one love <3)
2. Kill him. No more Kaiju N.8 but now who will fight with sudden surge of powerful Kaiju? N.2 user? Not enough
3. Use him as a weapon (which can lead to either killing him, so nothing changed compared to #1/#2 points, or he could become powerful weapon)

So imho #3 is the best choice. Payoff is too high compared to risks. Altough they didn't thought he could do shenanigans he did in the last 2 eps.

It's when he is controlling himself. But when it goes beyond that point - no one knew what is going to happen, and that's what they tried to check out, I think

Indeed. At that point it would be more logical if other member of Director's team come to rescue. But oh well, such are the reasons why I ultimatelly didn't enjoy the show. If you think about it deep enough - plot crumbles

Very well animated episode and the scene of Mira helping Kafka regain control of his body was sensational, another beautiful thing was the third division coming together to cheer for Kafka back and Reno clearly wanting to get strong to fight alongside his hero, another The good news was the announcement of the second season, now Narumi's look is just as bad as the others, which in the original is much better, I hope the main and art director changes as we are approaching the cataclysm that we are seeing so far in the manga and cannot deliver this horrible look, but the cataclysm is coming because the scene with Kaiju Nine playing chess means that he is already preparing

The series was quite ok. Nothing original, as such themes had already been shown in every way, but it was nice to watch.

What hurts the most is how much they screwed up the appearance of the characters. The manga isn't particularly beautiful, but the characters are much nicer there. What they did to Narumi Gen is a joke ;/ if anyone is curious what he SHOULD look like, take a look at manga because in the anime he looks like some other character
