The life of an adventurer in this show....

Even with the state that Rentt is in, I have to respect him for taking his stand and preparing himself. Like seriously, even as a skeleton now, he continues to be who he is. Glad to see Lorraine, another main character getting more spotlight this time and it seems she accepts him for who he is.

Whatever happens in the labyrinth, stays in the labyrinth

Returning to Malt, Rentt turns to his longtime friend, the scholar Lorraine Vivie, for support. Lorraine, who is engaged in the study of monsters and magic, calmly accepts Rentt's transformed appearance and promises cooperation. Despite becoming undead, Rentt is determined to continue his adventures as an adventurer. He has no intention of giving up on his dream of becoming a Silver ranked adventurer. Eager to prepare his equipment, he heads to the blacksmith shop, Three-Pronged Harpoon.

I really like the idea that all his past connections are coming through for him when he needs them the most. It's just a shame that it took him turning into an undead to finally get the recognition he deserves. It really highlights the importance of building genuine connections where people help you because it's in their own interest. His bond with the researcher becomes even more significant, especially since his new condition allows her to discover things she couldn't have otherwise. As long as he doesn't go down a dark path, it's a win-win for her to assist him. And the fact that he stays true to his core self gives her the confidence to trust him.

He had already decided she was someone he could rely on, and it seems like that trust is paying off now.

The execution of this episode reminds me a lot about Frieren. (the subtle and deliberate feeling, the OST, etc)
The flashback between mc and the sage girl is great.
Surprised how good the adaptation turns out on this less popular series which i read manga before.

“Becoming stronger to become more human”, that ‘s a rare one. Rentt character is further reinforced with every episode.

Lorrine and Rentt shared history together and it seems she is even more interested in him now, probably more than she let on.

I like the chemistry between Rentt and Lorraine and the fact that they know each other more than 10 years makes it better. Can't help but ship.

The chef coming with a pitiable story, if he only mentioned that he needs to take care of a wife and children as well it might've worked better on Rentt. Ah whatever he accepted his help anyway. But of course the inexperienced chef fucks it up due to his ignorance, he didn't see that teleportation but at least stick close by Rentt , how can you be so overconfident in a place yoú've never been before..

Another solid episode. Again, it was hardly action packed with a very deliberate pace, but never felt slow. I really do like the fact it seems to take its time with the world building and character development/exploration.

And with these first three episodes, I have to say I am really enjoying this series: the characters are likable, the story is simple but compelling, and the production values (animation, voice acting, music, etc.) seem on point. I definitely look forward to this every week.

The story is definitely getting better.
I really love the BGMs, it really makes a difference when watching this series.

We also get to see some characters who are likely to be friends with Rentt but for some reason, he doesn't want to depend on them. (from the blacksmith)

Additionally, they added a scene when they were still both rookies. It was a rather cute scene. Although, the only one who blushed was Lorraine...

I can't wait for the epic boss fight next week!!
Btw, the pacing is perfect but since it looks like they're lessening the animation, I just hope it's better for the BD release. Seriously, the frames...

It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines
and ultimately destroys her character and personality; their purity tarnished because of it,
is the only thing I hope to not happen to them. For that sole purity is my fan service.

Wonder what was most shocking Rentt going missing or coming back as a ghoul. Lorraine though raised a pretty interesting point though. Rentt sure got a pretty good payout from those materials. Given how he looks the reactions of the town was to be expected. The insight into how the two met though was pretty nice. And went a long way in showing how their bond had matured over the years. While Rentt has good reason not to involve his friends its still sad to see him not enlist the help of blacksmith and his lady. If a room looks empty then its usually a trap is a piece of knowlege that all adventurers should remember. Especially if said room ports you to a meeting with megaton. Rentt's eyes lighting up to answer it though was damm cool.

The tie-in to last week's ep showing that Lorraine was fully awake and working when he showed up but decided to trouble him a little by making him 'wake her up' was petty in a cute way. A tiny bit of payback for making her worry about him for so long I suppose, but then the flashbacks show that their relationship has always been awkward in a wholesome way from the beginning. Fun bit of backstory.

Well now we know why Lorraine wasn’t quite so shocked when a corpse man was in her face, she was already awake and pretended to be asleep since she knew Rentt was coming in ahead of time, what a sly babe lol. And speaking of her, I really liked the backstory between her and Rentt, so he was the one who brought light to her life when she found everything boring, it makes a lot of sense that they have their current relationship, I also liked the design for the younger version of Lorraine, the hair was cute.

And after turning in his old sword for a new one, Rentt enters the labyrinth once more and ends up saving a chef in need of money, so of course he helps him out but not before the chef successfully fucks himself with that teleportation circle lol. And Rentt being the lad that he is goes in after him, only to be met with a giant skeleton, the ultimate deadhead lol, perhaps we’ll see Rentt evolve from this boss fight if he can win.

Decent backstory for Lorraine and Rentt. 10 years went on and nothing happened between them? Oh well. Everyone he knows are worried about him, even that blacksmith guy and woman. He's a well liked guy. Anyway for now he gotta beat that boss and save that restaurant guy. Evolution incoming?

@Joche1 Well if you like how Frieren is paced / executed, chances are you'd like this show
Given that people rated Frieren so highly, it's not surprising you feel good to watch this show, cuz i do too.

The thing is it's not backed by lots source readers, it's an unpopular/unknown/underwatched series in the west, and it's not made by famous big studio, so this show is bound to be rated lower and being very under-watched.

Lorraine took Rentt’s new appearance surprisingly well lol. She’s more interested than using him for research than anything 😂

I like how they tied this week’s episode together with the end of last week’s episode. Knowing Lorraine was just pretending to be asleep so that Rentt would wake her up is so cute lol.

Glad we got to see their backstory as well. Life was so boring for Lorraine until Rentt walked in it. She had all the success, but was still missing that spice of life and he really brought it by teaching her about herbs, how to fight etc. Hope to see more of them interacting, it’s so good.

After picking up his sword from the blacksmith, it’s back into the dungeon to level up and hopefully reach the next evolution stage. It’s nice the blacksmith and the lady recognised Rentt despite his new appearance and were willing to help out. That’ll probably come in handy in the future.

Good on Rentt to help out the chef in the dungeon, but now they’re both stuck in a boss room. Rentt’s first big test of his new life. Can’t wait

I think this series has a lot of that Frieren flair, minus the Madhouse production values. Deserves more attention for sure.

Actually, I haven’t started Frieren since I plan to binge it, but I started this series just to have some season anime in to watch and it’s been really enjoyable so far.

Sadly you’re right, this isn’t going mainstream and it’s about it’s rating, I don’t think it will be that high, but at least we get to enjoy it.

A really great episode where we get a lot of background info and some motivations.

We got to see how Lorraine and Rentt first met and how they became friends for the next decade.

We also got to see what Rentt wants and that is to become as human-like as possible. I'm guessing he'll become a vampire at the end of show or something like that.

@amlg Rent is too focused on becoming Mithril rank adventurer (and fact that he is stuck on Iron rank for decade comes with strong feeling of inadequacy). His backstory for wanting become mithril might might also play role in that.

Alright, nice episode, guys. It's a little bit too slow, but ok, the plot really has a ton of potential, tho. It's kinda a mature pov while facing dungeons, I like it!!!

Also, the monsters in this world are JACKEDDDD bro, those giant slimes, cbum goblins, and that damn mf boss skeleton. It'll give a lot on exp tho, bro's probably evolving again with that.

I didn't understand why he felt a little strange when seeing blood, but it looks like it is gonna be explained in further eps.

Pretty decent episode. The pacing of the story is really considerable. Really gotta commend Rentt's commitment and tenacity in becoming a mithril-class adventure. Even as a skeleton now he's just as dedicated in attaining his position. Awesome to see Lorraine accepting him for who is, though she doubts it at first, but all that is common in the field of adventurers, can't blame her vigilance, Good for her.

Rentt comes back to Lorraine's place, though the former looking like a ghoul, she can't help but having to trust him in his undead self. He has only one place to go, and he is literally her test subject for existential evolution. But make no mistake, being out in public captures everyone's attention, though going to the blacksmith to get a new sword, he desperately needs all the help he can get. Given how Lorraine knew Rentt as a rookie back then while she was still in her academics and earning the silver-ranked Great Doctor title because she had nothing to do, he's more than just the typical adventurer who has an inept knowledge being a bronze-ranked adventurer for the next 10 years, both him and Lorraine were peas in a pod supporting each other in small ways.

Going back to the labyrinth, yet another rookie adventurer shows up having trouble dealing with slimes, and Rentt helps him out, though the chef-turned-adventurer has a debt to pay. For the time being, Rentt takes him into the dead-end place where he found, and inexplicably, he stepped onto a teleportation circle, which Rentt followed, and encountered a giant skeleton boss.

There's more to see in this dungeon, but pray tell of any monsters.

I like how Lorraine learned from Rentt originally but wasnt forever below him in knowledge. The characters feel nicely presented.

I like the slow pace but i am a bit worried on the pacing for a series of only 12 episodes.

Character designs are also nice and the soundtrack has a comfy feel to it.
