The way Vermillo feels about Helck's power isn't surprising. Who knows what his true limits are with that power...

Feels like their relationship got more tense since that latest battle. However, I like how Vermillo was able to express her thoughts in the most passionate way possible. VA did a great job imo.

Hmm, 'hero killer.' It comes across as a bit of a gimmick to me ngl.

In the battle against the Warrior of Darkness Augis, Vermilio trembles in fear at the unleashed power of the berserked Helck. The warning from the witch, stating that Helck is a dangerous entity, echoes in her mind. On the other hand, the Imperial Army, having successfully reclaimed Tooru Castle, repelled repeated human attacks with a solid defense, thanks to the intelligence provided by the spy, Asta. With each battle, the soldiers with wings grow stronger.

Searching magic, eh? That seems like an invaluable enchantment, particularly for locating significant individuals. I believe Azudora is spending excessive time attempting to eliminate the human wizard king. This grants them an extended period to bolster their strength. I suspect that Helck is entrusting Vermilio with the "hero killer" in case he ever loses his sanity. I hope we got more of Piuy's little journal entries in the future as well lol.

2nd Cour starts next week!

Man, the voice actors are really doing the heavy lifting here. It would be nice if they reserved the manpower to animate the serious scenes in the flashback and afterwards, but most likely the animation and directing will keep being decent at most. It´s sad to see an adaptation of a work you loved being so basic though.

Still, most of Helck's best scenes aren't fighting heavy, so I am putting my hopes on the music and the voice acting here.

At least the group now shows in the map.

Now a important heart-to-heart to clear for good Vamirio concerns.

I like the idea of Piwi travel journal. Having the narrator as one of those animals that narrate movies. The part of having the RPG cosmetic DLC.

Nooooo just as we were about to get lore they cut to the ED 😩 looks like we’ll get it next week with Helck’s backstory though. Very much looking forward to the story of Helck and his brother.

They addressed my question from last week’s episode too about how they should show up on the map now that they’re on the main continent. Was wondering why no one had given it another check since they disappeared.

The humans’ division and ideological differences is a big weakness that could be exploited by the demons. Lot of bickering and infighting even during high level meetings. Guess human nature never changes. Close call for Asta there, thought she was a goner.

Can’t really blame Vermirio for frankly being a little afraid of Helck. If he ever got serious she’d stand no chance. Luckily she won’t have to as he proved today he does genuinely respect and trust her. Even going as far as to offer a weapon that could kill him. Vemirio’s come a long way to turn that opportunity down.

I disagree.
I think animating volume four's bonus chapter in the C section of the episode as a little laidback interlude between both parts of the TV series was a good idea.

When I saw there was a ton of time after the ED I was sure we would be deep diving into Helck's past, but getting Piwi narrating over his travels in capybara town was even better.

Don't know which I love more: the dab from management, or Helck's sick Hercules Helckules beetle hat.

The music during vamirio and helck's heart to heart perfectly captured the mood. It was serious and kept us on the edge of our seats because Helck is about to say something we don't want to miss. The answers to his past and the reason behind his current ambitions will finally be revealed. This will be intense

@chidaru

Yes! Vermilio is awesome and I enjoy watching when she goes on a rant (baka!) but also when she gets serious such as in this episode where she actually admitted to Helck in not trusting him early on. Helck sensed that Vermilio had previously been staring daggers at him and offered her the "hero killer" sword.

I'm looking forward to the upcoming lore dump regarding Helck and the humans, and more Vermilio too.

And Now for this episode's talk, why the hell are you dancing anne from management, hahaha, hilarious. I knew that there were some dark secrets behind. Didn't read the manga but I'm predicting that there is some kind of magic or mind control for the humans to do this. That's what makes it interesting.

The war between the immortal human winged hero knights (led by Edil) and the demons (led by Azudra and the potential Demon Lords), even though the latter has the upper hand, there is always this uneasy feeling that they'll be overtaken sooner than later. The thing is, when will that take into effect. As Azudra focuses on his efforts with Hon slandering him left and right, he's able to finally locate Vermilio and find her. But as Ista and Asta continue their spying efforts into what the winged knights have up their sleeve, they'd better be more careful.

A search party is activated to locate Vermilio, though she's still aways ahead before she arrives back at the Empire with Helck. Azudra and the rest can only lie in wait for their arrival...or rather, they're still on the way back, fighting wild monsters in all terrains. But with Vermilio knowing that Helck is powerful and his hate for humans is valid, it's too great of a power to ever be unleashed when there's a next time, that causes her to be overly worried.

Helck's past starts with a broken Hero Killer blade that he wants Vermilio to hold until the time she has to kill him, though she's grateful for his service towards her and doesn't want him to commit suicide, but on behalf of someone who can do the deed on his behalf. What's his past like further, we'll know next week.

For now, Piwi's Glorious Desert Journal as post-credits is a nice addition, as well as the bunny ears that both Piwi and Vermilio are wearing, and the dance of all things that earns them a massive inn discount lols. Here's to more adventures from Piwi!

How to add cheap suspense to any anime story? Just add in some arbitrary levels as if it was some sort of cheap RPG game and make the background characters gasp at them.

Funny how wolf ears girl claims that the troops morale is low, yet they see this invasion as some sort of picnic party, no real tension nor wear/tear depiction. Another cheap tell don't show kind of directional choices.

It's ridiculous how Azudora and the other high council members were so infatuated in either kicking Helck out or at least unveiling his true agenda joining the Mazoku forces before he and Vermilion were sucked in at the warp point. But now they firmly believe without any proof after such a long time that if he's still with Vermilion he must be a truly great guy on their side. Great anime logic there.

We're finally going to get Helck's backstory in what's meant to be the most important point in the series so far. Nope, instead, we must get Piwi's stupid and pointless adventures. Sasuga anime staff.

Really important episode that concludes the first cour; I can't wait to hear this story from Helck. I think even he fears himself. I think soon we may have a reunion with the demon realm as well. So far, i'd give this an 8/10, with my only frustration being the length of the island setting, though in hindsight it was important.

This was a strange episode.

The traveling and stuff going on in the Demon realm was interesting. Azudra really loves Vermilio, everyone is wondering if they can trust Helck.

Anne / Vermilio says she's decided to trust Helck. Then he pulls out the broken, cursed sword HERO SLAYER! Just as he is about the spill the beans on his (presumably) tragic backstory, the end credits roll! It's only halfway through the episode so here I am thinking, FINALLY the anime only people like me will see what the big deal is with this episode.

And then, we get a filler episode about a desert town, with Anne dancing (doing a dap?) and Piwi narrating everything hilarious style in his journal!

ARGH. Yes it was fun, but I really need to know more. Guess I'm tuning in next week.

Varmikin dancing? I like how they put a lot of effort over Piwi filler story. Its better than the serious plot they try to build there imho.

Tho i am glad i can hold my horse off over to be able to reach the main course of the show which is called 'Helck backstory' after a lotta hardship at the half of this first cour segment. Whatever it is, its sounds pretty concerning since Helck decided to told it in person face-to-face with Varmirio.

Meanwhile back to the empire side, looks like they handle it well, but for how long they can holding off? Wishing them to find a concrete way to deal with the nonstop coming from the immortal heroes side, but i do appreciate the little sentiment over Azudora narration. Make me do more curious to see what's up behind Helck past story....

I agree, anime & manga authors shoving elements from games where they don't belong is annoying and telltale of lazy writing.

The broken sword seems to be chekov's gun for a big event later that may take place down the line.

I was caught offguard with Char's cameo, no one expects Spanish Char Hippo

Ok show, but Vermilio must be the least endearing tsundere ever created. Her whole personality is just being peeved off at everything and everyone. Biggest waste of a good character design I've seen in a long time. Sorry if that pisses anyone off, just stating how I feel after watching the anime so far...

Should also be said that the show doesn't balance comedy and serious moments very well, and often feels kind of infantile and half-hearted. It doesn't go far enough with either the action or the comedy. Perhaps this is expressed a lot better in the manga.

The whole journeying back to the kingdom thing has also been pretty disappointing so far. It's felt less like an epic journey, and more just a line of back to back filler episodes. The sections that show what is going on at the kingdom are particularly dull, but even Helck and Vermilio's (and Piwi's) journey is pretty uneventful, besides a few brief moments of action.

Helck is literally the only interesting character in the entire show (which isn't saying much), and considering the mystery behind his character is the only thing holding the story up, it would have to be pretty bloody amazing for me to change my mind about the anime at this point. Hopefully it doesn't just end up being your typical revenge story. I suppose we'll wait and see.

P.S. The OP sucks but the ED is excellent. And the VAs are also excellent.

@Dr_Dreem Vamirio isn't a tsundere, because there is no affection involved. She's a straight laced, all business type. The forte of her relationship with Helck is that it's purely platonic and more meaningful than the usual high school tropes.

The point of the trip is to learn about Helck: every locale is jolly like his facade, but hides a problem that's obviously implied to be like his. Since he's said before that angels shouldn't be killed, the journey is to explore the alternatives.

@xdiesp Fair enough, but I still think she's irritating and one note. It's also hard to feel for a character that never expresses any vulnerability or real change in emotion and is seemingly 100% platonic and business-like with everyone. For a major character to be like this is a problem in my opinion. Cheesy and exaggerated high school tropes are one thing, but a plain character with no personality or backstory who is seemingly just there to fill a role in the story is another. Personally, I much prefer the former.

"The point of the trip is to learn about Helck: every locale is jolly like his facade, but hides a problem that's obviously implied to be like his"

I never got that impression at all while watching. The island at the beginning was certainly very jolly and silly, but I didn't feel anything dark about it, unless you mean the witch, but she didn't seem to give off an ominous impression. After that, it just felt like a mashup of different events with different arbitrary characters. Maybe the manga expresses these things better.

In the end, perhaps this just isn't my cup of tea. I can't feel for these characters and their stories (or lack thereof) at all. Nobody is truly likeable or interesting to me, at least not yet, not even Helck himself.

@xdiesp Factually incorrect. She's definitely a tsundere, because she acts cold and violent/loud towards Helck and others, but also mellows down when it comes to accept that Helck food is quite good and that Helck isn't such a bad guy as she initally believed. The big problem with her barebones archtype is that it's all played entirely on convenience (as in Helck gives in something she can profit of). It's not really heartfelt specially since the piss poor story does signal a platonic relationship and nothing more (reminds me of Wreck it Ralph and Vanellope, but on a more shallow presentation).

But the problems are incredibly shallow and ambiguosly presented (like the dark knight in the ruins being presented as a war casualty, but in fact he could had been an invader to the neighbour country) and the jolly side just plain sucks, it feels like toons you would show up to a todler and they would laugh just because they look goofy, not because what they play a clever comedic routine.

@Dr_Dreem The island had the underwater ruins, also seen later on the boat. It spells post apocalypse right there on the nose: the witch gives them a piece of lost magic technology, too, so there's the murder weapon. Afterwards, the 2 kingdoms with the shadow dude were basically the same but more recently. Barbarians didn't have the technique, so when they dug in the power, they became closer to monsters than weapons of war.

It's a classic anti-war story from the nuclear age, with dark magic replacing atomic bombs.
