THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
The MC needs more of a personality besides his "hero" traits. First half of this episode imo was a big snoozefest.

Sumire is also a dull character so far although I guess they're trying to flesh out her more this episode. One positive note is the world setting though. It does look like a place where humanity is fighting for survival.

The whole "Asylum" thing just feels like characters in an RPG fighting random battles taken out from the mobile game, and it does indeed feel that way.

Shigure Daniel Kai (I'll just shorten to Shigure) still feels like a mute character, apart from the whole "I want to be a hero" cliché thinking with his team of Sleepers, while getting used to his role as the newbie Sleeper.

For Sumire Mutiki, she is more like an idol hopeful than someone working as a Sanity Anchor, and indeed she was one in the past that didn't want painful memories to be resurfaced of her Underground vanity affair. Psychology, yeah right.

The Asylum monster extermination action was fine, nothing to rave about.

A special mission for Shigure, and Commander Vera offers him a special mission...to assassinate someone? You call that heroism?

Gotta try harder in the writing department, because the characters, as "unique" as they are, they're but humans serving a survival purpose while character development drastically takes a backseat.

I liked it, it is getting better.

To bad they had to throw in Mutiki boobs, they did bake it into the story so it wasn't completely stupid.

A heroic act can have many different shapes and forms.

Being forced to kill someone to save the world, could be heroic.
I seriously doubt any regular person could do that.

This is no winner of awards but I do feel it is getting way more flak than it derserves, CGI is even good-ish now.

Okay, last week I was upset with all the poor grades people gave this show as I think you can't really get the feeling from a single episode. Besides some of the most famous shows started on bad footing. However, after today's episode I am convinced this show is not good and most likely will never become good. While I still understand we don't know total number of episodes I honestly doubt writers and animators will do anything to redeem main character.

Main character, who is devoid of common sense, logic, feelings, empathy, neurons and many other things necessary for anything even close to resembling a living being, let alone conscious one. All of the characters are lack luster, but main lacks the most. Not to mention whole episode was bunch of nothing. Combine that with slide-show-like animation where they will move the shot away from magazine stack falling apart so they can avoid animating it... just speaks volumes. One should always put the best foot forward. If that's the case with this show, then am afraid we are in for some trouble.

Right off the bat we have the monster going underground and then genius mc states: “it went underground.” And then we’re greeted with a seizure-inducing opening.

This should just be titled “generic mc wants to be a hero!” At least we have something interesting for the next episode, an assassination of sorts. Perhaps we’re getting into some underground conspiracy. But I think we all know this guy is going to be too pussy to pull it off. If he defies expectations and actually goes for it, big round of applause.

Would’ve drop this but it’s so bad it’s good. I wanna see how things unfold and see more cringe moments

The word hero was used barely once in the entire episode (and he hasn’t even started being a hero yet), what the hell are people trying to nitpick to oblivion without looking at the rest of the story? Just because the word was used at the very end of the episode, doesn't automatically mean the hero trope = bad story, or that he's going to be a generic hero, which by the entire plot, it's impossible for him to be.

I swear this is just an anime for free clout if you do nothing but hate it.

It was way better compared to the first episode. So what's up with Sumire doing uhm..porn? I just wonder how an underground idol ended up at that point. lol

CG is still pretty ugly for the monsters. I really don't get why when their summoned weapons look pretty ok. Possibly done by a different team?

MC also got a bit of development at least but he is still kinda boring. Larry is a fun one at least.

Who knows this assassination plot might spice things up.

By the way the opening is pretty good, it's something.

I was praying we weren’t going to see another ugly cgi monster but… we saw one straight away. Asides from the terrible AI, the OP is actually really nice. So Sumire couldn’t become a sleeper because she couldn’t handle the sanctuary it seems. She was also an idol. Episode was better than the first one imo. Looking forward to the next episode!

I think it does exactly what its suppose to do.. not make me think to hard but gives me those final fantasy-esque type setting and character rhetoric. The cgi is rough but not giabate rough at least not is terms of sheer numbers and there are what look to be some hand drawn backgrounds that make me think rpg.. I don't know maybe it is just me.

A lot worse than the first episode (which was pretty good) - besides the interesting ending with the special mission announced.

Same/generic mission and the main char got to interact with othes + the idol girl hat some background story. But I like those chars not that much.

Would have been better to focus directly on interesting missions.

One of the points that this anime is really bad at times is the very events that are weak plus the case about the girl who is friend of the protagonist which was a small detail of this episode.

I quite liked this episode. Never really had a problem with the CGI either first episode or this one... CGI in anime is pretty much always bad, so I thought the presentation in this one was acceptable. Not quite Dorohedoro level, but more than good enough. As far as the story, I still want at least some hints as to why they're even there killing these monsters in the first place.

I found this episode to be a lot better than the first. Whereas the first seemed like a very plain and by-the-numbers pilot or introductory episode where it felt like nothing was explored beyond just explaining the premise in not much more detail or depth than could be gleaned from a synopsis, this felt like it was actually willing to start delving into fleshing out the characters with their contradictory psychological profiles which might put them at odds with each other. It felt perfectly acceptable that any lore of the broader world be placed on the backburner because the first failed mission and what led to its failure, the fallout of character decisions back at the base after that, etc., actually started to make the base feel like a real and deeper place very shortly into the series, which is at least moderately impressive.

Sure, I don't like CGI animation compared to 2D either and will never ever choose or prefer it even in the best of cases where it's actually done at a technically impressive level (Beastars, Houseki no Kuni, and Dorohedoro, for instance) and this is far from those best case scenarios, but whether I will watch and the degree to which I'll end up liking a series (or end up rating it) is not determined by animation or art style. Those are only factors to consider, but they can certainly be overridden by a moving and thoughtful story, world, and characters, so let's see how well this series compensates for the animation in those areas.

I considered the premiere perhaps the worst first episode among all first episodes of the 16 total new seasonals I'm watching this autumn, but this episode at least elevated the series above two other seasonals for me.

I like the idea of a collection of soldiers and technicians gathered together for disparate reasons on an open-ended stationing at some isolated base in a remote corner of the world - where they can go off on some chaotic missions and then come back and have lively conversations over coffee all the while familiarizing themselves with one another and their own selves and reasons for being where they are. It's the kind of series I could theoretically watch indefinitely as a long running series and be perfectly content.

Of course, I don't necessarily expect it to be that well made based on what we've seen and know so far, certainly visually but maybe in the writing department either, but at least this episode was a step up and proved it could do and be a step up.

way better dialogue than ep1.
Shigure & Sumire relation nice development, and Larry too makes him more fun.
lol mc can't aim, looks Asylum cause disorientation & concentration issues. There's still dry slow pacing issue.
Whole abyss setup feels big failure, but assassination quest sounds interesting.

This is looking more like Phantasy Star Online (the prequel thing, not the school show) with each episode, world with a lot of potential but character drama takes center position. I still hope they fix it otherwise it can/might end up on my on-hold like PSO did

Apart from the CGI and the whole fighting in the Asylum in general, I'm liking the story a bit. It has potential tbh. They ruined the fights but they could make it up in the story department and I hope they do. I think I'll give this some more chance.

Meh episode.

The story continues to be uninspired. I guess this was the Sumire episode, but even the past about her wasn't explained all that well (like, why did her idol career fail?). Even the strategy used to defeat the enemy felt shallow.

Also, maybe just me, but they seem to be using some weird filter which is making the animation look blurry and it makes my head hurt.

The worst thing is it's animation, the stoty is not that bad. And as a funanimation production it could have a good animation. Like the different creatures in asylum looks really awkward in a anime sense. It'like they are using some low quality cgi. Only if it had good animation i would have given it a 7 out of 10 rating

I agree with most users said here. This episode was a bit better compared to the previous one.

But yeah, we see the atrocious CG right off the bat. That kinda puts me off to continue this show, but I somehow still holding on.

At least now we got somewhat of a proper background of a character, rather than some nonsensical motivation like the MC got on the 1st episode. The reason why Sumire did the pornographic photoshoot remains a mystery. Hope we see why she did it in later episodes.

There's no improvement on Shigure's character building, but let's hope that he got it later on the next arc. It seems that the next arc would be focusing more on Shigure's journey alone, as it is stated that he will assassinate someone.

I'm putting my hopes up for this show. Yea, that somehow happens. We never knew what would turn out later on anime original.

From my Understanding this is like a promotional run before the Mobile Game , right?

If we take that into consideration, I think it's wrong to go "It's gotten a bit better, I've got my hopes up again"

And it explains the kinda flat character-interactions and the RPG Side-Mission like parts in the Asylum.

The episode 2 is utter garbage.

The MC is like complete idiot. Doesn't have EQ, IQ, any physical ability, social awkward, cannot read the room. This remind me of Makoto from School Days.

Leslie literally just told MC why Sumire is upset, it was because she get disqualified from being Sleeper. Then it suddenly show us a screen where 3 randoms people are talking about idols. Then the MC suddenly tackle on the topic of underground idol instead of the being disqualified topic. What the fuck?

Also, MC was able to fire the gun properly in episode 1 and now he suddenly become no sense of direction and unable to fire the guns?
Is it a stupid joke in order to trigger Sumire and start her background story explanation?

Lastly, in order to introduce the character Sumire and the important of Anchor, the whole Sleeper team instantly become malfunction without Anchor's order?
What a joke? What the fuck is the director or author of this anime/manga? Are they idiot?

In order to have happy ending of episode 2, they somehow relate both idol topic and Sleeper topic?

Hmmm, not sure if i want to continue with this one despite not being so picky after the first episode. I had a feeling that I'm kinda choking on represented entertainment and it's a rare sign when watching a particular series.

The animation is questionable with jumps from grit to soap, the uniqueness of each character imposed on us feels artificial and the whole Asylum thing is just here to serve as a background. There might be more to complain about, just pointing out what lies on the surface. Yeah, I'll drop it for near future.

At this point, just expect every monsters as CG. And that the writing in this show can be pretty tedious to even take notice, because dear they're the deadbeats for this anime.

Whatever Sumire may have put herself through in the past, it's not that Shigure should just banged in and go "haha haha I know you now". Also hollow Reika, and I guess I'll give Larry one point for excelling in neuroscience, I'll give him that.

Deep Insanity is just one of those shit anime every season that I force myself to watch through the end. Not to expect to find something remotely good from it, but as a buffer or a time waster to witness the blurry canvas that it really is.

The opening and ending song are pretty good. I watched ep 2 for the song :D

Characters are too stiff with each other even if they're being friendly or cooperative with one another.
For a 2nd episode out of 12, the background story of our idol is lacking the depth I am looking for and the MC's attitude up to this episode is decently generic. Animation (probably CGI) is not flawless as I'd hoped it would be even though the characters' art style is good enough.

Overall, it is so-so.
Only Leslie has the character depth at the moment (but making him THAT kind of character are really UNNECESSARY) following our Idol which kinda below average as a waifu material and then our MC who lost his ego from the first episode.

P.S. The OP and/or ED is really interesting and enjoyable to hear.

It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines
and ultimately destroys her character and personality; their purity tarnished because of it,
is the only thing I hope to not happen to them. For that sole purity is my fan service.
