THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.

This anime still impresses me with its vertical character movements.

Shoutarou's decision to join the gynmnastics team is definitely a game changer in his life. Seems more like a buildup episode this week to get him used to the training and knowing the other guys on the team.

Lol, I hope he gets used to his new lifestyle.

Futuba joins the men's rhythmic gynmnastics club, and from thereon, starts a new chapter in his life...same with the newbie ace Misato.

I love that this show wastes no time in getting down to the nitty-gritty, and even learning about the other members of the gymnastics club: their strengths and contributions; the overall teamwork, camaraderie, and also heaps of hilarity banter that isn't as boring as so many mediocre sports shows (especially those with the BL "bait"). This show doesn't need that pretense, and the staff behind this show knows it.

I do wonder when we'll be able to see the coach's wife since she is her source of inspiration, but putting that aside, getting Futaba to practice, practice and pracitce doing backflips, that's a starting point alright for the newbie. Mastering a backflip is not easy, and he did overcome it, but there's still a long way to go.

Zexcs is still WOWing me with the animation quality that's second to none. THAT intense level of detail, especially in the gymnastic segments of Misato, and those backflips.

For a show that's promoting the soon-to-come Tokyo Olympics, this is ONE FINE SHOW that still manages to surprise the hell outta me.

Electrifying backflips for rhythmic gymnastics.

Good episode. The dorm is not that bad... in fact it's actually good that the club own the whole mini-dorm instead of living in a big dorm sharing with too many people. I'm wondering if it has sharing bathtub too like Ace of Diamond dorm?

And the most exciting thing about living in the dorm is roommate, I which I could go back in time just to find a hot roommate to live with. The yankee senpai is not bad, but I'd live with captain. And his hairstyle from two years ago makes me wet.

This was really fantastic, you can really feel the passion from the cast. I'm still not feeling the story, but everything else really came together nicely.

Watari is Levi. The VA is the same, right, but that facial expression together with the tone is just completely Levi! Now that AOT's recent season has finished, this what I need. Good good.

OP song reminded me of Given somehow. Not just because it was performed by Centimillimental.

The desperate senpais complimenting Shoutarou's backflip was funny. I love that they don't show the absolute beginner being naturally talented. People who have to work for their goals are much more inspiring.

Misato has to go home every night, without fail. I am guessing he has a sick family member. Probably a single mother. Or, maybe abusive parents? There are no rules that state that only Hoshiai no Sora can have that. Maybe he has to work to help out his family? Does he have a sad backstory? Still, he wants to help out a friend, which is sweet.

I like the way they animate Misato's graceful backflips and Shoutarou's clumsy ones. It just looks a lot more alive than some other anime I've seen.

Shoutarou jumping on the college's matt was so adorable!!

I knew they wouldn't live in the same dorms as the other students. Still, their current dorms don't seem too bad. Rather, it looks good. Much better than the one in "Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuiteru".

Not even one quarter of the anime has finished, and I already have a ship. I don't even like romance! Why do I have any ships at all?!!

So far, the only problem I have is nothing big. It's just that I'm hearing Levi, and occasionally, Watanuki Kimihiro. (Is Fukuyama Jun even in this anime?) This kind of pulls me out for a bit and reminds me that the anime is voice acted. You know how you should not see the staff in your head when you're first reading/watching something?

I really can't underestimate how good the production values of this anime is.

Every character has so much live in every scene that they are in. From Masamune dramatically grabbing his heart after being told his explanations make no sense, the way Koutarou bows to everyone like they are mob bosses, the gag which Nagayoshi does quick stretches after Masamune calls him out for saying something mean about Misato, these character animations aren't just funny, they elevate otherwise alright characters into incredibly likable ones.

THE COOKING SCENE. That was some insanely good cooking animation. The scraping carrots and cutting paprika's look straight out of an anime movie. Such touches are completely unnecessary but the fact they did them anyways just leaves me wowed and stumped.

Seriously, I don't know if they can keep these kind of production values up. Let's hope it won't get Yuri On Ice'd by the second half.

As for the episode itself, it was pretty fun. Had my eye roll moment when Futaba didn't want to next year because hIs SeNpAiS aRe GoNnA gRaDuAtE, but the rest of the episode was a pretty nice and emotional story. Just an overal decent episode with some great visual gags.

I really liked this episode despite not liking the first one. The animation was great but what made this episode so good was the VAs performance for me. They really stood out in this episode, especially Ayaneru. She voiced her lazy-sounding character perfectly and made me like her character even though that character wasn't supposed to stand out. Also, I loved the scene where the camera switched from the main character's training to him performing in front of his coach, that scene was great.

Yeah, they really elevate the whole thing to another level. The very strong direction and animations really turn a admittedly generic premise into something else. Everyone in the staff just really seem to know what they are doing.

Did the anime just got even more beautiful or something? Yes the image and animation quality too, for sure, but I mean... Man, I'm jealous of Shou. Such a great group of senpai - and the fact that even cool and aloof Misato isn't as indifferent with a total lack of concern for everyone and everything as one would usually expect from that type is absolutely refreshing! I love watching this so far. All the good vibes!

On a sidenote: now I'm hungry. lol

Alright, this episode sold me on the show. It was great. xD

Comedy started working really well for me. The characters are quite the fun and energetic bunch so the show's fun to watch.

Loved the build up towards that night practice backflip, wish we could've seen the actual test but I'm loving the animation on Misato's shots.

Soundtrack is fantastic as expected.

So far's still good. I hope this anime don't turn to too much talking with less action one.
Misato family's background scares me a lil bit. I sense there'll be conflict in the future from him. I hope i'm wrong.
Also, each scene changes too fast imo

that was a nice ep :D the characters all fit into a basic anime type (rough guy, smart calm glasses guy, playful energetic one, the cold cool guy, etc) but its not overdone, and because of the light hearted tone and likeable characters im really starting to like them. its also nice to see the mc having a supportive family lmao (sus on misato tho, looks like his family bg would be complicated)

the animation is lovely, budget definitely went into this and im glad it did. on the scene where they were eating futaba was covering his mouth while chewing and stopped covering it when he was done which i think was a fun detail they added

some scenes were a tad dramatic (of course, its anime) which sometimes makes me feel eh but it visually looked cool so i enjoyed it

I love this director, his directing is too good! 👌👌👌 I love all the character acting too, I was afraid maybe there'd be very little of it after the first episode, but nope, still here! I guess I shouldn't have been too worried, considering Fune wo Amu was pretty good about that as well. It really makes the characters come alive and every scene just feels so natural. I couldn't stop replaying the part where Misato goes into the dorm to wake up Futaba :'D Actually, there were many parts where I kept replaying over and over, like the scene where Misato shows Futaba the backflip run and near the end when Futaba practices outside of the dorm. Damn, those scenes really evoked a lot of emotions (mostly excitement, but also hope and inspiration), of course also due to Hayashi's music. Just how many amazing inspirational tracks can one person make?

The team is so wholesome, the quick backstory worked and I like the connection of the same motivation for the members. I am definitely curious about Misato's family though, and my thoughts are the same as most people's, that maybe he has a sick family member? Whatever it is, it's very important, but him appearing after he checked up on his home showed how much he cares about the club. He's really supportive of Futaba. Anyways, really looking forward to seeing how the rest of the show will go!

The plot used such a minimum requirement (sport clicheness) with its setup to keep goin on. Shoutaro once again used a typical mc copy-paste ability to pass the test. But his determination to soar unexpectedly made up for it even better. The way they used a minimum spot to made up some backstory. Thats good enough. The banter between characters was alright. Nothing too outstanding, but still manage to make it quite interesting. I had one and two chuckle, especially with Watari and his 'apologized too much' antic. Lets see whats up in the next episode.

This anime is so good! Such a wholesome group, it's nice to see a sports anime in which the team is genuinely focused on mutual growth.
The art is really beautiful, Misato's backflip sequence was mesmerizing. Also, the characters are all loveable, and Futaba and Misato were amazing in this ep :3
It might be a great contender for becoming my favorite show from this season, all I could do was smile through the whole ep.

I genuinely can't choose a character that I like best - they're all so awesome so far. Misato is definitely the one holding my interest most at the moment though; he's such a mystery, especially with not being able to practice late or live in the dorms. He seems quite drawn with Shotaro with the way he tried so hard to help him pass the test and how he reacts to Shotaro's hard work.

Dude, these have to be the coolest senpais I have seen in a while. They treat Futaba so well I'm actually feeling kinda jealous xD

On the other hand, the deal with Misato always going home early is kinda suspicious. Makes me wonder if some potential drama will come from that front but leaving that for now, it was quite sweet of him to return and support Futaba after having checked up on his home.

Overall, fantastic second episode. Direction continues to be amazing and so far, it's being quite notorious the amount of passion the people working on this put. The cooking scene, though technically unnecessary for this kind of shows, was handled with such care I was left quite impressed; the addition of individual details/gestures for each character makes them all feel incredibly alive and OST selection for each scene is simply perfect.

Ah yes... Boys being boys. I love this show. Shotaro finally went ahead and joined the gymnastics team. He's really happy about everything. The new training gym, the new dorm. He's really excited and pretty understandable for someone who's new. But it was so funny seeing his expectations shattered into pieces when he saw where he's actually staying. LMAO

Another nice episode. Though they're not living in the school's sports dormitory, at least they have their own private place, and I think that's much better. lol

I want a Misa backstory, I wonder why he's not allowed to live with the others in the dorm, maybe his parents are strict. Lol. And why he decided to enroll at Soshokun High instead at the number one school.

Their coach pushing Sho is actually really beneficial to the team. As a newbie gymnast, Sho really needs to catch up. Good thing he passed with the help of Misa and other team members. The animation of Misa doing backflips is really good with a fluid flow. Studio Zexcs is doing an amazing job animating this anime.
