I see you enjoy this types of shows
Stakes should matter. Motivations should matter. If they don't, and anything is possible due to hasty writing and a desire to wrap things up nicely, then what's the point of building story/world/character with grounded rules. What's the point in being emotionally invested in any of it? That's why I dropped the FMA reference in my initial review, it's as if Edward found the thing he was searching for throughout the entirety of the 64 episodes, in episode 63 and it was in his back pocket the whole time. This is why GoT failed as hard as it did. They told this fantastic story, but decided none of it really mattered during the final season just so they could wrap things up.
And sure nothing is perfect, keep in mind, I don't think this is a bad title by any means, I just think it's extremely overrated and incredibly flawed. It's a fine casual title and probably pretty groundbreaking if the viewer hasn't experienced unreliable narrator or nonlinear narratives before. It certainly *aimed* to be amongst similar titles, and I applaud them for it, Odd Taxi tried to do something we don't see often in anime, it's just unfortunate they couldn't stick the landing.
Odd taxi's use of convenience, to me, came off as a quick fix due to the connective tissue not being where it should have been. It wasn't earned. Smaller aspects of convenience throughout the entirety of the anime, sure I suppose are fine and inconsequential to the bigger picture...but happening in the penultimate episode, and one of the MAJOR driving forces of the series' antagonist just HAPPENS to fall out of someone's pocket and also just so happens to be owned by the anti-hero, who years ago also happened to be the person who caused the antagonist's initial descent into madness, who also just so happens to be standing right next to the main character when the season long cat-mouse confrontation finally happens? No way. Inexcusably cheap imo.
That said, I don't think it's a bad anime by any means. I just don't think it's very good, nor ground breaking whatsoever. I'd highly recommend watching any of the titles I listed above if you haven't already. None of perfect, but having just finished The Departed about 5 minutes ago, the difference in story telling is so far beyond anything Odd Taxi was capable of, I feel even further justified in my opinion. That film did what Odd Taxi tried to do in half the time. And sure, comparing mediums might not be the best means of criticism, but having just stepped away from the film and seeing this, I figured I'd reference.
The dialogue was fine, but again, not worth mentioning imo. Witty and personal dialogue is fine.....but it doesn't make it redeeming by default, it means the writers understand how to embody characters, humor and exposition. Whether it's done well or not, is a matter of taste. I thought it was fine.
I would like to give it another watch though. I'd like to see if my opinions hold up.
I came here from your Review on Ninja Collection...And I totally agree with you with this Point.
Nice, I used to play 1.8 too, I haven't played the game with the following update, but I saw some things and I agree that now it seems really different.
I haven't played Minecraft in a long time, I guess now it must be very different from what I used to play. What version is it now?
