Yikes, the length some characters goes to achieve immortality is scary. All those experiments and ambitions...

Sawa still remains cold as ever. Honestly, I lost the amount of times she mentioned 'kill' this episode. Pretty sure she'll remain like this unless something changes. Elena is also kinda creepy this episode but I find her less scary compared to Sawa.

Such a weird alternate 1930s Japan led by none other than Tokugawa Yoshinobu, and Sawa is in the journey of pursuing after Janome.

We got more clarification on the extermination of Sawa's clan, which helps to offset the reason of the man (Jin Kuzuhara) telling her to abandon her humanity for revenge, and why she decided to show a glimpse of humanity towards the little girl Asahi.

Playing mindgames with the Shogunate executioners Elena, Makoto and Sawa against Janome's followers, and turns out that Makoto...is a woman as well, plating herself as a guy in disguise and also as a pawn of a chess puzzle piece of Nue.

The spectacle of events forthcoming will be one of intrigue.

This no joke, legit was the best hidden chick in anime that i ever saw, usually it's blatantly obvious to tell but this one surprised me.

Also yes, the grandma indeed was evil, the moment she talked about little hands i was like .. hold up.

Damn bro I was not expecting her to be a reverse trap. That’s hot af tho.

We got some pretty nice backstory on why her clan was wiped out too. Some people will go to insane lengths to gain power and protect it. Some of the details of the story are still confusing to me but I’m sure they’ll be explained soon. Continues to be a hidden gem

Woah!!! Tsukimoto Makoto is not he...
The story got deeper and deeper and more complex. I would agree with Yukimura that Janome should be killed when he kidnapped Asahi. I really hope nothing bad will happen to Asahi. 😢

I feel like I should like this more than I do. It is all pretty competent (save for some wonky animation every now and then), but it never really engages me. Episodes just kinda end and I don’t feel much either way. I’ll keep watching because there are not any other anime airing on Tuesdays.

Didn't expect that either, but if there's a seiyuu that could pass as a reverse trap then it's Aoi Shouta.

Maybe I am big stupid but can someone explain to me what happened at the end of the episode? What was the blonde woman (forgot her name) doing and is the woman who disguised as a man actually working with Janome? I‘m really confused lol

Not surprised to see that him and that immortal doctor guy partnered up. The grandma was sus af but tbh I didn't expect it to be a disguise.

Yeah, think I'm done with this show. The choice to completely gloss over cliffhangers is baffling and still very little makes sense. The writing seems to be all over the place, and the directing completely diminishes any impact the fight scenes could have.

The only good things I can take from this show are the general aesthetic and Raise A Suilen's work on the OP and ED.

Hmm I think Hana (blonde woman) is watching over the dead treasurer's kid, her saying she hates kids would make sense plus Makoto told the treasurer her kid was safe. But if this was true, why lie before killing the treasurer saying the kid was dead at the end of episode 2?

It's either that or Hana just got done with a 'customer' (remember how she was interrupted in episode 1 by Sawa and Makoto?) but her lines in this scene make less sense unless she knows what's happening to Asahi.

As for Makoto working for Janome, that's what the last scene is suppose to imply. Getting the map that leads to the fall of the regime + nue (18:25) and when she tries to brush off Janome when Kuzuhara mentions him (17:25) supports this. With the amount of twists so far who knows what will happen though.

I'm sure whoever is writing this is totally serious about it, but I'm just laughing at how ridiculous it all is.

Can Yukimura and Chef Moe just stab it out already? I'm bored.
And where is the shapeshifting naked girl? Something needs to happen here.

It's definitely leaning into the soap opera intrigue angle more than the badass secret agents angle that I'd prefer, but as long as things keep moving at a decent clip and it doesn't totally abandon the latter, I can tolerate it. This one was more focused on Lightsaber Guy, or maybe Lightsaber Girl, which makes this legitimately Charlie's Angels. She's been running her own cons and backroom deals and been working with the big bad. Also, the big bad was posing as a nice old lady via a Mission Impossible skinsuit in order to kidnap Asahi. You know, the little girl left alone for 18+ hours a day with no protection in a city apparently crawling with monsters and killers. Just saying, man. I feel like you could have put out a want ad and skipped posing as an old woman with a friendly dog for a week.

Unfortunately though, those couple tidbits are about the sum total of the episode. Lightsaber Girl, and no, I don't know her name nor am I sure if anybody's actually said it at any point… Anyway, the initial reveal that she was working her own angle was pretty obvious. "He must have disappeared this way. You two go run off as far as possible. I'll stay right here with, uh, a twisted ankle?" That took a significant chunk of the episode to get to and then it was a race to fit as many reveals and twists into the last five minutes as possible. The pacing could have certainly been better, or some misdirects back in the other way around her towards the start could have worked better.

The writing has to be some kind of joke.
In the beginning of this episode when the mc said "why" I honestly thought she was asking why the fuck did they bother protecting the women (from episode 2) if they were going to kill her anyway but no there is not a single person in the show mentally capable enough to see the problem with what they just did.

Do you really have to spend an intire episode protecting someone if your goal was to kill her anyway?
Apparently to them the response is yes because their answer to this was "she was a liability" and I am like "cool, but why did not you just kill her in the first place"

Hm, it was better than the last episode, but it is still not very interesting. They could do more than flashbacks and straight exposition to give the plot some context, and try to develop the characters for real (repeating that Sawa wants revenge every 5 minutes isn't development). Everything is all over the place and even the animation is lacking a bit.
I do kinda want to see where this leads, so I guess that's a good point. But Idk if it will be enough to make me stick till the end.

I really wanted to like this show, but I just can't get into it. The characters are boring, the story is mediocre, and the alternative historical sci-fi setting (the thing that convinced me to watch the show) is just... not there. The show would literally be the same if it was an alternative version of Japan where the Shogunate didn't end. Replace the cable cars that were used twice with horse-drawn carriages, and bam. No difference.

These three episodes did nothing to draw me in. I couldn't even get excited with the mediocre action scenes. I thought the end of the last episode would have a cliffhanger that might make me want to watch the next episode, just to see what happened to Asahi, but yeah, that got resolved quickly. Also, I can't believe so many people are surprised that the "reverse trap" was a girl. I thought she was a girl from the first scene she appeared in. This show's "twists" are very predictable, from the treasurer getting murdered, to the old woman being creepy and Makoto being a traitor. Not that predictability is bad per se, but if you cram your show full of predictable twists then you're doing it wrong.

So yeah, dropping this show. Sad at the wasted potential, but I'm not gonna waste any more of my time on it. If it suddenly gets good later on, I might pick it back up, but I highly doubt it.

So Janome killed everyone in Sawa's village because he wants to achieve immortality through the blue blood. I wasn't expecting Makoto to turn out to be a woman disguised as a man and now it is revealed that she is working for Janome.

Wait was it not obvious that Makoto was a woman from the very beginning? Lol, like it never even crossed my mind that she was posing as a dude, I just immediately looked at her and thought oh cool she's a tomboy. I didn't think the fact that she is indeed a woman was supposed to be a twist.

I cannot believe I actually had to force myself to holding up the old 3 episodes rule before dropping this series, but at long last, it finally became good enough to keep on watching till the end; sunk cost fallacies are one hell of a drug.

My bitterness towards the first two episodes aside, this time around the directing, voice acting, plot development and even character interactions all seemed to be on point. I am genuinely excited to see where this story is going for once, instead of just enjoying the aesthetics alone.

Please, God, let the rest of this show remain as great as this episode.

I think that the group is only testing Sawa, and that everyone is on the side of Jenome, or rather that they are on the side of the government and only want the power of the ONLY (if that is so) survivor of the clan that has the power in his blood to elaborate "grotesques"

Otherwise, as they say, it makes no sense to protect and then kill the one who knew everything, unless makoto knew that Sawa was going to receive information from Jerome and that he is on the side of Jin, and Jin in turn of Jerome, and the only "good one" is Elena, who, as we saw, saved the lady's (I suppose) child.

Anyway, this whole mess is just beginning, I hope it's not complicated to follow

Although the truth, this chapter in my opinion was very emotional and shocking!

Damn, we only 3 episodes in and we already had so many twists lmao. Good episode.

Never would have expected Makoto to be a girl, usually it would be obvious but that wasn't obvious at all, thought he was just a pretty boy. And she's also working for Janome damn. We also know now why Janome went after the blue blood clan, because of his immortality experiments. Hopefully Elena ain't no traitor, Yuki and Elena's interaction when they were burying the cleaner seemed genuine, though can't really trust anybody in this show lmao.

I guess Janome is using Asahi to bait Yuki? Looking forward to the next episode.

Watching this episode, I got myself hopping that Sawa would get more deep as a character. But I have to remember that, after her trauma, she was raised to be an emotionless woman.
We know that she ordered Asahi to go away to protect her the child, but I wish she could be less cold.

The anime is interesting, but I not in love with the direction staff. The angles, the repetitive lines, the scenes cohesion... not in love.

Two crossdressers in one episode, both revelations were a little shocking.
Joking, the grandma was suspicious the moment she started caressing Asahi's hands while saying some creepy lines, but on the other hand Makoto being a girl was surprising to me, mostly because you really wouldn't think that a character voiced by Aoi Shouta would turn out to be a reverse trap.
