THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------

I dont know if I could handle being in space like that, Earth so far away and then seeing Earth as it appears eight years in the pass via the VLBI telescope (they could have defined it, had to go on wikipedia to see that it is a Very Long Baseline Interferometry...). Having the reflection of the stars and sun on the ship was a good touch.

I still take at least double the run time of the episode to just read the displays. Some have so much interesting information.

Plot: darn schulze (if thats his name) having to die in that prominence like that and not being able to see his family one last time, kind of felt sad for him that it came to this all because of their Lords game. Yamato is really running through their satellite forces. Though for Yamato, if the captain meets some fate cause of health :(

Schultz's death really did seem unnecessary. I though he would get a grander exit, fighting had on with the Yamato, not being destroyed by the universe :(

Yet it was nice of Dessler to promote them in death, and raise their families to be honorary citizens of the empire. Thus the crew's death had not been in vain.

Although I'm sure Dessler's "generosity" will be well reported to spur the second-class Garmillians on to greater efforts on behalf of their blue-skinned masters.

Isn't that wall painting portraying Starsha and Dessler? And more Dessler screening time was a true eye-candy. That handsome voice and face ♥ That entrainment show was intense. The maneuver by Yamato was clever, the Wave Motion Gun can even break through giant flares like that.

I got the feeling that Schultz will end up dying. I feel sorry for his daughter and she was cheering for Dessler. And captain Okita, I wish you keep being stronger even longer. I could see why Kodai still believes in him.

PS. I remember the cup Dessler is drinking from in the original was completely hideous to me.

A really good look at the Gamillan leadership and combat methods in this episode. They are a fearful enemy and have a smart leader in Dessler. BTW, the stuff behind him was quite revealing I though.

The Captain is barely hanging on. I hope he lasts a bit longer. No one else can take his place.

The lack of Akira eye candy was a tad sad though.

Dessler is shaping up to be a really good antagonist it was nice of him to make the families of the fallen honorary Gamillans.

Surprised he actually did that. Seems like he's not just a major douche.

This was a great episode, a bit more of that original Yamato feeling and now that they're using the original anime ending song from Isao it sure makes it all the more epic. The original ED wasn't really related or had the right feeling for the series!

Good Episode, Another issue: Why bad guys all German names? That's disgusting!
Schultz death was a bit (bit lol) sad.
I want to see some creativity in the next episodes.

Pfft..to hell with Schultz. Sure, I feel sorry for his daughter and wife but fuck that guy. He is responsible for launching the planet bombs that killed millions and devastated the earth. Glad to see he died, he deserved it.

Intriguing episode again, for the things that are said and for the narration that does not focus on a single context. The alinei are underestimating the terrestrials, but the character of Desler is not as ruthless as many dictators seen in other contexts, even if he shows little attachment to the lives of his other similar or not. The commander Okita is a great character, also this time demonstrates a lot of light-heartedness, exciting the battle today. Excellent graphics, now comes a subject that I was waiting so long. So Niimi was part of the Izumo project, that's his secret. The part in which we talk about the ghost is very intriguing, but I do not remember how it ends.

Everyone saying Desler isn't so bad because he rewarded the crews families doesn't understand his motivation. He doesn't care about their sacrifice, he's simply motivating other second class citizens to throw their lives away in service of his evil ambitions. It's a bit like how a master gives his dog a treat for pleasing him.

Nice touch to see that both sides have dear ones at home. I felt sad for the girl.

But I wonder how all the humans ended up on the enemies sides anyways. Were they lured in by the "submit or die" policy?
And how did humans get all the way to the enemies home planet?

Damn, the guy voicing Desler has an incredible career as a seiyuu. He was voicing Spike Spiegel and Kaiji in Eva! And Zoellick Helm (one of the generals) is voiced by THE MAN Norio Wakamoto, who played Oskar von Reuenthal in another timeless space opera, LOGH.

On another note, Desler and the whole Gamilas Empire gives me strong Nazi vibes, from mythology and militarism to "Ghale Desler" (sounds familiar doesn't it) and "second-class" gamilas

Btw, it was said that Desler had been reigning for 103 years??? Damn, just how long do these guys live? The painting of Desler and an Iskandarian (?) woman was really interesting though. Great episode overall, and I remembered an episode in LOGH with similar premise about evading a star. Great.

I was beginning to emphatise with Schultz a bit and was hoping he would defect to the human side, but was always going to be hard with his family in Gamillas, would really like to hear the story of how the humans ended up there. Really hope the captain is ok.

When they mentioned that they were 8 light-years away from Earth I immediately thought that it would be blue again it they looked at it, and a moment later they did exactly that. Best moment of the episode. Btw how do the aliens know what cats and mice are?
