THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- I love how this show is keeping the settings refreshing and around the world. Now they got a museum in Britain and dealing with a lapis gem. Looks like the past still plays an important role in particular for Richard's character in this show. |

OMG this is my deserve reward for sticking to this show until the end!!! Also, the interesting point is that Seigi decide to chasing Richard even though he mistakenly think Richard is gay. I'm a little bit sad that since it's saphire, not diamond, the will is nullified, and Richard doesn't have to officially register the civil partnership with Seigi to own it. This anime is already beyond the average yaoi-bait anime, but with two episodes left, I hope it'll go beyond anyone expectation and make it official and legally bond same-sex love. |

This episode was so beautiful and full of love. (I especially loved the sunset/scenery, when Richard tried to leave the hotel room through the balcony door.) I'm so happy! Really looking forward to the last two episodes. |

They already said it's possible to divorce after getting the diamond previously, so it's not like the partnership is definitely permanent anyway - well, not unless they want it to be. --- ibraheem234 said: this felt like the last episode This was originally supposed to be the final volume in the series before the author ended up being able to continue, so I don't blame you for thinking so. --- Okay everybody hear me out: - Seigi and Richard about to get married, or Civil Partnership if you prefer; - them looking like they’re walking to the altar when they were walking up the stairs; - Richard's entire speech later sounds suspiciously like wedding vows - you know, the whole “whether in sickness or in health, till death do us part”; - ... and they even exchanged rings! (well okay one of it isn’t a ring, but anyway) ... They basically had a whole wedding and ceremony right there, y'all. Other thoughts: - I’m actually quite surprised at how detailed the British Museum scenes are, I feel like I can pinpoint which room Seigi was in, props to the anime team >Jeff: hey if you get engaged to Richard we’ll be able to get that diamond >Seigi: cool how much do i get Seigi has absolutely no hesitations on marrying richard, huh... - Richard, if you’re saying there are people who love Seigi and want him to be happy, and you count yourself within them... so you’re saying you love him? Episode screencaps: - ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) - BABIES!!!! - I also really love how expressive Richard is in this episode - he actually emotes more than what the anime has shown so far in both the novels and the manga, but the anime chose to represent him in a more stoic manner. Mind you, it’s not exactly wrong, but honestly Richard has had some fantastic expressions and I’m glad anime-onlies can get to see some this episode. --- This was something I was waiting to say for this episode, but actually this series has an interesting crossover fanbase with Yuri on Ice fans and Banana Fish fans (well, to be fair, Uchida Yuuma is in both BF and this one). For those who watched YOI, I’m pretty amused at the episode parallels, which I’m sure are unintentional: - in episode 7, they Kissed, and in episode 7 of JR we get Seigi first mentioning that he likes Richard. - in episode 8, Viktor had to fly to Japan, leaving Yuuri alone and JR episode 8 we get Richard leaving Seigi at the end of the episode. - YOI ep 9: Yuuri is unable to focus and is jittery without Viktor, and JR 9 sees Seigi like he’s lost a part of his soul without Richard around. - YOI ep 10: Viktor has returned to Yuuri, and they get a relationship upgrade in terms of an engagement, and JR ep 10 sees Richard and Seigi reunited and engaged too (well, it’s not a real one, but honestly no one else besides the two of them know it) Just a little fun thing I observed~ --- And now, for the novel content cut from this episode you all have been waiting for: - the hotel scene in the novel was much, much longer - it took up most of chapter 3 actually (this episode adapts chapters 3 and 4 of volume 4). Seigi and richard kept arguing, but it’s because richard was upset that seigi chased him halfway around the world for him (because he didn’t want seigi to get hurt by his family). At one point, richard even hugged seigi on the bed. The hotel hug was taken out and combined with the one at the house in this episode. - the moment where seigi thought Richard’s lover was male in the novels is a bit different from the episode here. Seigi was like “now you can go back to your boyfriend” and richard was like “huh?”, then said “I’m not ga- that’s not quite right, I’ve never been in a same-sex relationship before” without the whole mistaking to be gay part That part was in, but I think the novel worded it better - in the anime, it could be taken that Richard has no interest in homosexual relationships, when it's the exact opposite. I think this is pretty significant because him correcting himself hints that he’s not opposed to one, and it does get brought up again in the later novels. - it’s a minor point but Henry talks to Seigi in English because he actually didn’t learn Japanese, only Richard and Jeffrey did - during the ride to the Claremont manor, Jeffrey asks how did the two of them end up dating (he really thought they were actually dating, and since Seigi agreed to the civil partnership thing, he decided to play along with it) and who confessed first - Seigi said “it was love at first sight for me actually”. How much is Seigi lying here is the question, but in volume 1 he did say that Richard was the most beautiful person he had ever met and if Richard was a woman, he would have believed it was a ‘fated meeting’. (Seigi, honey, bisexuals exist) - when seigi was making pudding for richard and jeffrey was talking to seigi, richard actually came in. Earlier richard had told seigi not to talk to jeffrey because jeffrey wasn’t to be trusted (I love jeffrey a lot, please no bashing), but seigi ended up talking to jeffrey so when richard came in, he hugged seigi from behind and pointedly told jeffrey to get out of the kitchen because he wanted to be alone with seigi. Then later actually jeffrey was the one who helped himself to the pudding and richard was like “i don’t want to share this with you, i absolutely do not want to share this with you, i definitely do not want to share this with you”. He was referring to the pudding, but he sure is possessive over seigi’s pudding huh - as expected the ring scene was cut the most... before they exchanged rings, richard was still angry at seigi’s recklessness and yelled at him for quite a bit, it was kinda combined with the hug scene in the episode, but richard Seigi said the following line “i like you so, so much and that’s why I’m angry!” to seigi Richard, which was really quite an important line imo - after they exchanged the gems, seigi actually goes “it’s like we’re exchanging rings” and richard was like “indeed.” Then afterwards richard kisses seigi on the cheek, though seigi was in gay denial for the next few volumes before he accepted the truth ahahaha. They also talked about their pasts a bit and some things about them, including which country would they want to go to if they could choose (seigi: Sri Lanka, richard: japan). - the last part of the episode where richard is back in etranger is from the extra chapter in volume 4. They also cut out a large part, but one funny part is when richard and seigi kept praising each other and then shaul walks in being all like “you two stop flirting with each other already”. Richard also said a lot of compliments to seigi at one point, but seigi was so distracted by Richard’s beauty he heard 0% of it and asked richard to repeat himself hahahahaha - there’s also an extra chapter in digital-only copies, where richard and seigi were out after dinner. Seigi was like “the moon is beautiful” and richard was like “do you know what you’re saying?”. (In Japanese literature, “the moon is beautiful” is a traditional term used to represent “i love you”, and “i could die” = “I’m yours”.) seigi was like “yeah i do but seriously don’t you find the moon beautiful”, richard “... yeah, the moon is beautiful” and seigi was like “is this where i reply with ‘I could die’ now?” And richard almost threw him out of the car hahaha. This was basically the closest to an actual love confession for these two idiots xD The doc with translations has barely anything more but i might add more to it later, so here Edit: fixed a spoiler Edit 22 March 2020: edited the spoilers, because I realized I mistranslated some stuff - they're indicated in strikethroughs. |

I felt really bad for Henry. He had to suffer th most because of the entire diamond thing. And his appearance also made me really sad, I just hope he can get better. I, personally, didn't like the resolution of the mystery that much, after the built it seemed too vain tome. Like all of that (suffering) for nothing! But other than that I loved the depth of character this incident gave to each one of them. Even Henry who we hardly meet, had a sufficient backstory. I'm really excited to see who will Seigi end up with and how. |

So Richard told Seigi: "Just to clarify one thing, I never had "men" as lovers, it was a girl". So this is confirmed to be pure yaoi-bait. BUT We have to admit that their friendship became "gayer" and "gayer" in each episode we watched. AND I kinda love it. Gosh, the thing is cleary made to be ambiguous, and I still feed my fujoshi hopes with this shit, damn it! But I guess this is kinda of the point of BL-bait anime. |

I'm glad that the episodes have become connected now. At the beginning they seemed to be going with a gem of the week kind of plot, but now that everything is connected the series is a lot better in my opinion. I'm kind of sad that we only have 2 episodes left, I feel like the series could continue. (I'm not sure how much of the completed books we have/will have covered so far we are at 4/9 published?) I don't think that we will get another series, but an OVA would be nice. |

Eh i feel like this is kinda unfair to call it bait? First of all, the anime cut a lot of content from the novels. I suppose maybe so the series would appear more "neutral"? Second of all, that line abt having a male lover etc. was a little diff in the novels iirc? It seemed like it was more like "not yet at least". And third of all, the series is still ongoing and we dont know how its going to end. However, the books seem to be very open about the idea of them together so ig we will see. |

I love that the first thing that Seigi did after meeting Richard was pretty much to confirm if his first lover was a guy. xD I mean, there was no way for him to know before Richard told him because both Richard and Jeffrey used words like "ano hito" and "koibito", which could really refer to either a man or a woman. But now he can rest easy knowing that he is his first boyfriend? lol And thanks to him Jeffrey, Henry, and especially Richard, are free. There is no longer a "diamond" or a will binding them down. But to think that Seigi would try to do something like that... It was a selfless act to help his beloved Richard, but it was also reckless. He didn't think things through, and of course Richard wouldn't be happy with this kind of sacrifice. Good thing it wasn't a diamond at all. I really loved this episode though, Seigi even helped the three of them to make up with each other with the power of his pudding. I mean, they are family and they grew up together. Sure, there was what Jeffrey did because of the will, but I'm glad they got another chance to be together again. And welp, Richard and Seigi pretty much skipped dating and are engaged now. lol Well, at least somewhat officially in Richard's homeland. haha I didn't really like how the episode ended though. I mean, before the scene after the ED because I thought they would be separated for a long time, but thankfully it doesn't seem to be the case. Richard is back! |

(In Japanese literature, “the moon is beautiful” is a traditional term used to represent “i love you”, and “i could die” = “I’m yours”.) seigi was like “yeah i do but seriously don’t you find the moon beautiful”, richard “... yeah, the moon is beautiful” and seigi was like “is this where i reply with ‘I’m yours’ now?” And richard almost threw him out of the car hahaha. This was basically the closest to an actual love confession for these two idiots xD The doc with translations has barely anything more but i might add more to it later, so here OMG I NEED ALL OF THESE IN THE ANIME WTH?? |

I see, Seigi thought Richard was gay this whole time. I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing that Richard hasn't denied being gay. After all this homoerotic tension, it would be annoying if they don't end up taking a BL path. . . kind of like No. 6, but with a happy ending. This might sound inappropriate, but I want that pudding! It looks so delicious!! |

The lapis lazuli of an ultramarine lookalike ended up leading Seigi to Richard in an unknown land. Alas, as much as Seigi is relieved to see Richard, the same could not be said for the latter. And the Yaoi/BL bait of Seigi was debunked in spite of knowing the plentiful history of Richard. However, with Harry and Jeffrey still fighting for the family heirloom, Richard has no choice but to escort Seigi out of trouble, but Seigi being the "hero of justice", decides to take up on the offer instead which ires Richard badly. As magnificent and royal as Richard's family was in sight, thank God it wasn't a diamond (and for God's sake, you can tell by the gemstone shape regardless of the transparency). The joke's on the family members from a cursed will of misfortune. And with Seigi, Richard just exposed all of his wilful shortcomings, but also decides to accept him for who he is all this while (and please just kiss already...). Glad that Seigi's pudding actually reconciliated Richard and his brothers, and in exchange, both returned their individual heirlooms for last words of goodbyes. Really good episode, loved the buildup from the beginning of Episode 1 to now, it was all worth it. What I'm scared of now, is their own post-journeys from here on. Hope the gayness shows though. |

That was a great episode, and it really felt like a last episode. Though the enjoyment for me was a bit less that I probably should have enjoyed it because first of all, I read the comment section first (huge mistake) and second, I wasn't that into it in the previous episode so I forgot a lot of details from it. But I still like this episode a lot. Also, I'm really confused. Wasn't the condition to marry a traditional English housewife? How come Seigi was allowed to be the partner of Richard then? I mean that's alright with me but I don't understand how the will works anymore. starlightshine said: And now, for the novel content cut from this episode you all have been waiting for: - the hotel scene in the novel was much, much longer - it took up most of chapter 3 actually (this episode adapts chapters 3 and 4 of volume 4). Okay, the NG list was more written in the style of "if the heir marries a woman of Asian descent, they will be entitled to a sapphire". That is to say, there is no mention of the heir being in a civil partnership with a Japanese man, since back during the time when the NG list was crafted, civil partnerships literally did not exist. That was why the lawyer said they'd found a loophole. And as for the novels, there is no official English translation; those bits were taken from a Chinese translation (I'm bilingual). Apologies for that, but if you still want to try your hand at it, I included link to the Chinese translation in the doc. If you can read Japanese though, you can buy the JR novels on Honto, Bookwalker, and other sites that sell Japanese novels! |

I have mixed feelings about this. At first, when they were supposed to get married I thought the show took the dumbest direction, but then when the truths unfolded and Richard berated Seigi for his actions and even after the hug I saw it as a good depiction of friendship. Yep, for some reason, no matter how many people see gayness here, I just don't see it in this case. Or to put it in other words, I don't ship them and would like all of this to be a depiction of friendship that doesn't get ruined when touched with somewhat sensible topics. I found it really nice that they can talk so honestly with each other and still maintain some boundaries. A deep connection doesn't necessarily have to be romantic, other options besides romance have value too. In the end though, when they exchanged gemstones... well, it was a meaningful moment. But a bit too much for my liking. |

Seigi was like “now you can go back to your boyfriend” and richard was like “huh?”, then said “I’m not ga- that’s not quite right, I’ve never been in a same-sex relationship before” without the whole mistaking to be gay part. Richard also said a lot of compliments to seigi at one point, but seigi was so distracted by Richard’s beauty he heard 0% of it and asked richard to repeat himself hahahahaha - there’s also an extra chapter in digital-only copies, where richard and seigi were out after dinner. Seigi was like “now you can go back to your boyfriend” and richard was like “huh?”, then said “I’m not ga- that’s not quite right, I’ve never been in a same-sex relationship before” without the whole mistaking to be gay part. He was referring to the pudding, but he sure is possessive over seigi’s pudding huh - as expected the ring scene was cut the most... before they exchanged rings, richard was still angry at seigi’s recklessness and yelled at him for quite a bit, it was kinda combined with the hug scene in the episode, but richard said the following line “i like you so, so much and that’s why I’m angry!” to seigi, which was really quite an important line imo - after they exchanged the gems, seigi actually goes “it’s like we’re exchanging rings” and richard was like “indeed.” Then afterwards richard kisses seigi on the cheek, though seigi was in gay denial for the next few volumes before he accepted the truth ahahaha. This was basically the closest to an actual love confession for these two idiots xD The doc with translations has barely anything more but i might add more to it later, so here Edit: fixed a spoiler thank you for these details from the novels!! |

Thanks a lot to starlight shine for the novel information! Whenever it comes out in English and I can buy it im going to read it! :3 I really like Seigi and Richard and the whole story, but the anime skipping stuff is a bit confusing and the pace is weird sometimes, so thanks so much for adding this!! |

From the start I was hoping for them to end up with each other, especially bc their dynamics match in a way - reckless and composed (or maybe even the other way around 👀). Tbh, It didn't even feel as baity as some other shows so I hope they do end up together. That jewel exchange felt very endearing to me too. |
