I was hoping more interactions btw the Hanesaki, not just one quote and thats it.

Edit: The mom its so selfish, no wonder why Ayano is so fucked in mind, you cant just go back and act like nothing happened and just asking about if she get any good at badminton.

Nice to see some focus on guys!

Ebina's confesion to Hayma was so strange than normal, i watched that part like three times, and it still looks strange!

Ayano's provocations against Nagisa are being really annoying!

Hope that Ayano return to normal and refuse her mother invitation! Her mother deserve two strong slaps on the face by Ayano! abandoning her daughter cause she lost a badmiton match!

seriously, that whole situation with Ayano and her mother is just fucking retarded and makes the anime worst.

also that whole hayama/ebina thing was pretty underwhelming in the end.

big eh this episode.

Just when exactly are we gonna know why her mum left her, I for sure am getting ticked off. Geez, no wonder Ayano's so broken...

Also, that was the most awkward confession scene ever.

Damn...what a way to start the episode, please Ayano... ignore her, don't follow her!

This episode was more of a chill one before the real fight, but it was still a great episode. So, that girl likes him... it was pretty obvious, but i guess she should have said it sooner, i actually thought that she would scream something in the middle of the game and that would be a game changer, but no :(

After everything, i still hope that Ayano wins against Nagisa.
And also... i really hope that Ayano won't listen to her mother, please!!!

I am somewhat with this episode. I've been aching to see what is the deal with Ayano and her Mom but instead they are showing the guy's tournament and a little bit about the growing rivalry of Ayano and Nagisa

Now that ending is pretty tempting for me not to be curious as to what is exactly is her Mommy intention actually because she is just doing for kicks !!

Mama Keijou is sooo selfish!!

I hope Ayano won't listen to her, maybe in the next episodes, Nagisa can help Ayano return to her previous senses and lose to her while having fun playing... who knows?

Honestly, I have found the story(a fragile one at best) in this series pretty uneasy from the beginning. Coming from a person who plays badminton too, I don't see any need for Ayano to have 'crazy eyes' mode or for players to disrespect each other even if some may feel that it works well with the story. I find that the show is trying to inject something(or even anything) more into the series because having just badminton as the primary genre in the show will be quite boring seeing that most genres are thrown out the door and romance isn't heavily focused on.

The overall drama between Ayano and her mum felt forced and all over the place. It has a weak foundation and feels like it could literally drag on forever if both mother and daughter do not sit down together to clear the air once and for all. Had the mother just explained why she left Ayano to go abroad, the show could have gone a completely different direction =.=" I doubt she even knows Ayano quit badminton for a period and her wondering about how much Ayano has improved in badminton during a conversation with Ayano's grandparents in this episode did not sit well with me......Does she even know how Ayano felt all that time till now? it is hard to tell with her current expression. I don't think Ayano will follow her mother and leave Japan because in her mind she felt abandoned by her mum and now all the sudden her mum wants her back. This is not something one can just immediately forgive and move on from.

Even if we were given the current story setup, I do think episode 1 could have been better where Ayano could choose to play badminton willingly at a latter stage rather than being dragged back into it by her friend. I am not sure how this series will end but I hope Ayano will regain her humanity and start respecting other players as well as becoming close to her mother and connie before the finale but I know this will be quite rushing which may deteriorate the quality of the show.

Cocky Ayano was alright, matter of fact, pretty good up until now. She just seems like an over confident annoying brat at this point. It's almost as annoying as Gilgamesh from the Fate series. Hoping Aragaki whoops her ass in Badminton in the next 2 episodes or so. And when the fuck will we find out why her mom left? This episode kind of grated on my nerves in a very annoying way.

With every new episode i loose a bit more interest in this anime.

I did enjoy it at first, mainly because the art and animation is done so well but the drama is really chocking out the life of the anime for me.
Not only do we wander from cliffhanger to cliffhanger but i also feel like that the actual ending to this story will only end in more drama and a big "read the manga" but this won't even matter because the story has already gone of the rails.

Ayanos mother is all over the place, too. She must have some personality disorder because i really can't explain her apathetic behavior otherwise. I also highly dislike the fact that she has not communicated with her daughter at all, while she was gone, and Ayano had to find out about her whereabouts through some badminton magazine and not through her mother. She is however shown to communicate with Connie, her adoptive daughter quite frequently.
She clearly does not care how much she is hurting the people around her. I really would not be surprised if the reason she abandoned her daughter was for some made up bullshit.
If i had to guess it's because of some "This is to make her stronger" bullshit. Hurting and breaking her is clearly not a problem. After all, if SHE decided to do it to her daughter, it's apparently okay and not a reason to be upset.
At this point it can only be some narcissistic reason that will only make me hate the entire story more.

The way the characters are just so unrealistically un-charismatic and inhumane makes me really dislike this entire anime. Them trying to force to make them redeemable by making them cry or giving them some hamfisted backstory is just a punch in the gut afterwards.

I'm really not happy with how this anime treats it's characters. And the way I see it, the writers or whoever is behind this, won't be able to pull of a satisfying ending, especially to the drama with her mom.
No matter the reasoning, what Ayano's mom did is unforgivable. And i really hope someone actually calls her out for the trash she is.

I'm just here because i want to see this anime end for some peace of mind at this point.
So far this anime stands on a bad 4/10 for me and the only reason why i won't rate it lower now is because of the animation and soundtrack.

As much as I love this series so far, this episode reminded me of everything I dislike about the show. I like how Hanebado has a more Seinen-like and drama-focused approach on sports anime, with its nuanced look at the flawed characters. However, this is a problem when I can't bring myself to care about any of the characters besides Ayano and Nagisa. Another thing I like about the show is the animation and general visual presentation. At its best, Hanebado has master-class action animation, rotoscoping and effects, with the first episode being a great example of this. However, the animation quality is not always consistent. The show never looks ugly, per se, but this episode's off model characters had me slightly irritated. Though, I know how difficult it would be for every episode to look movie-quality like the first episode. Overall, I'm still enjoying the show for the melodrama and action animation, but I've lost some of the hype that kept me coming back.
Edit: Also, has anyone else noticed how weird the placement of the music felt sometimes? As great as the music is, it doesn't always fit the scene its in. an example is the beginning of the changing room scene. The colours and soundtrack invoke a dark tone, but all that's shown is a girl putting her shirt on wrong. I feel the scene could have been more intense if the music only came in once Ayano began speaking.

the only this this episode save the bad aura was the romance and confession of Ebina to Hayama! it was sweet!

Uchika is a bit too nonchalant on this episode. And I don't like it. Poor Ayano. She must be frustrated, terrified and sad all at the same time. I wish Connie won't give up on her. D:

I really don't get why Ayano's mom think she can just talk and live normally with her daughter like that after she left her without saying anything??
I remember I justified Ayano's behavior in the early episodes.
Now she's just mean and a bitch, I hope Nagisa will crush her in the finals. Might not possible with her injured knee tho

Is there anyone who's more of a bitch than Ayano's mom? The answer is no. Fuck this character and fuck a lot of characters in this show tbh. I'm only watching it for Ayano's psychopathic tendencies.

Dull episode focusing on side characters who were never properly developed to begin with. Really outside of Nagisa and Ayano's family the whole rest of the cast is surprisingly underdeveloped and uninteresting. Also, I'm quickly losing patience with the show ending multiple episodes by teasing that the next will reveal major background info on Ayano and her crazy mom but then repeatedly delivering nothing.

The bad attitude that Ayano is approaching badminton with isn't surprising at all. She was literally dragged into the club twice by Elena against her will and then was guilted into playing by everyone badgering her about her wasted talent. Nobody cared if Ayano was having fun, they just wanted to her play because she's good at it. And that's exactly the message that Ayano has internalized: winning is all that matters.

I had one thing stuck in my heads after that episode and it is this.
Fuck those grandparents. You should by all intents and purposes be disowning your daughter at this point. She has practically broken HER CHILD, YOUR GRANDDAUGHTER, in all ways other than physical. And that girl needs therapy, a lot of it, and as soon as possible. This is completely unexceptable. It just makes me want to shoot everyone involed. How can you be this shitty as a parent. You figure out who I am talking about. I don't know whether I'm more angry at the grandparents or the mother at this point of time.

all the scenes with her mother were so awkward too, it's obvious she doesn't care about ayano at all but only badminton.

This is probably the episode where all the side characters' stories are resolved. It's a shame because they were not given proper time (those side stories) to develop so that more of us in the audience can care about those resolutions.

Boy, Ayano has been getting pretty vicious in her banter. Though I really feel for her because of the whole situation with her mom. Seeing Uchika does infuriate me since she seems to take everything at her own pace without regard to her own daughter.

The break to saw how shit the MS part was. Yeah, the shit was real. Atleast, the confession really served me as a good laugh. Nice there, meat eater!

Ah, Ayano taunting comes better and better at every time. And then, Aragaki must hold the grudge until the final blow! Yeah, she challenged her in the final, great! So thats mean she will all out even with her knee problems. Damn!

Then, the fuck mom tryhard her intentions to comeback. Ofc Ayano would dislike her so much til her bone left. And that sudden invitation, sure its surprising. But, it would be better to reject it, girl!
