Oh man, it's funny to see the old man get drunk a little.

The episode was fun with the twin top head guys and their small talk. I think they talked a bit too much and made some particular people angry. Too bad for them.

The aerial scene with the fireworks and bus was really epic like bringing fantasy into modern life.

That was a top-notch and wonderful episode. It sure brought back great memories from the first season as well!

Highlight was definitely the confrontation between the Nidaime and Benten afterwards. The sight of Benten sitting there after her loss gave me a sad and melancholic feeling without a doubt....

Damn what a way to bring down the mood in what was otherwise a happy episode...
Wonder whats gonna happen to Benten now.

Nidaime apparently is a fucking beast and whatever happened between him and Benten must have been huge. I need to know.

I laughed my ass off when Yasaburou disguised himself as Gyokuran and begged Yaichirou to confess LOL

Then the real confession though enforced by drunk Akadama was very beautiful. So good <3

This was my favorite episode... i just felt so happy throughout it. I Found 3 brothers as frogs sitting in the well talking to be so FREAKING DARN ADORABLE. And the journey on the train the whole train scene was just so lighthearted and heartwarming and Sensei thanks, he actually got those 2 together. When they both said i love you i just felt so immensely happy.

I loved how Yaichirou went after the twins after they insulted his waifu <3 Was glad to see Benten and that TEngu conflict sure got more intense. Dat showdown too. too intense... I wanna see what was that encounter in London like? they started hating each other after that.

A human who it trying to be a tengu fighting against a tengu who pretends to be a human. The results were preordained. Unfortunately. And Benten is going to lose the next time as well.

But that is the way it is, logic and reason dictate it, however there is one being for whom logic and reason are his playthings. Lock the course on, I am waiting to see how Nidaime gets punked.

What a beautiful development for Gyokuran and Yaichirou, all in part due to Akadama sensei. Here's hoping Yasaburou and Kaisei's situation will also get resolved by the end of this show.

Given the ED, I was pretty sure Benten and Nidaime had met before, though now I'm even more curious as to what their past clashes were to instill such mutual dislike for one another. I get the feeling that this defeat will affect Benten immensely, and I'm looking forward to seeing how, and just how Nidaime is related to the creepy illusionist guy.

Still cannot shake that feeling of some undercurrent for some sinister plan at work behind the scenes right now, and I believe Nidaime, Kureichirou and creepy illusionist are all somehow related to it.

Get your poetic justice here, served fresh and hot!

So Benten invades this guy's house, steals his chair in a childish display of vengeance, and then attacks him when he's back to claim it, getting utterly destroyed in the process. I'm not sure I have any sympathy left for her. Kinda tired of watching the entire anime as if the world was her little playbox.

Yep, I feel the same, ppl seems to have forgot that she ate their father. I'm actually happy with this episode, she getting beaten up just made it better.

A really fascinating episode this was! =D

Yasaburo transforming as Gyokuran, so that Yaichiro could practice confessing to her was amusing as heck. Although during the bonfire festival up in the sky, the real attempt was getting nowhere, until Akadama got straight to the point about their hesitation and thanks to his smart rambling, the two finally confessed their feelings to each other.

The engaging part of the episode wasn't the battle with Kinkaku and Ginkaku, although that was thrilling anyway, but it was the confrontation between Benten and Nidaime.

To my surprise, Benten lost the battle, which also left her pretty shocked. Akadama understands this feeling as well, so it's going to be up to him to comfort her for now.

Sure, Benten has done bad things in the past, which certain people will enjoy her getting a taste of her own medicine, but for me, it only paints Nidaime has more of an antagonist than ever before. Whatever happened between the two of them in London must've been big for it to escalate further in this episode.

For that, I have sympathy for Benten. Hopefully she'll find a way to comes to terms with this loss, then for her to bounce back and have a better encounter with Nidaime, whether to talks things over, or to do battle again.

This is just speculation, but I feel like Benten tried to play with/seduce the nidaime in London and when he didn't bend to her whimsical ways like everyone else, she become frustrated and angry since it was probably her first time dealing with rejection. This resulted in her acting all petty with him, such as when she tried to relax in his armchair while wearing a pretty white dress. It also kind of shows this in the ending, where she looks at him somewhat longingly. The ending also features her cutting her hair, which is common in anime/manga for when females get rejected.

Then again, this is all speculation and connecting similar scenarios from other series. I still prefer Yasaburou and Benten tho :')

Wonderful episode with many tense moments. What a surprise to find that Benten had stolen the Nidaime's chaise lounge. She did look elegant and cool watching the festival proceedings, and again powerful and fear-inspiring as she held Professor Akadama by his shirt after the crash. I thought she kind of had it coming, but I felt sad for her that her pride was crushed and she was tossed out of the sky. What a night. Professor Akadama seems to be regaining some of his old spark and stature, however. His forcing a confession and offering his blessing over Yaichirou and Gyokuran's union (possibly acting in Sōichirō's stead as the patriarch) was touching and sweet. The part of the soundtrack where Benten faced the Nidaime was particularly moving.

When i first saw the ED i thought Benten were already aquainted and in the midst of a break to their relationship with Nidaime, but after this episode the ED seems so different now. The guy Benten is piggyriding looks more like Akadama, and the scene at the end looks like Benten cuting her hair in shame for the loss.

Mechanically I'm not sure what happened in that clash. Other than flying and super-strength what can Tengu do?
I was having deja vu with that fireworks fight between the train and the ship in the sky. I swear that happened in the first season too.

Still waiting for the moment Yasaburo and Kaisei meet. I want Yasaburo to see her in her human form since he still hasn't?

While Ginkaku and Kinkaku can be annoying, I find their interactions with Yasaburo and his brothers amusing and funny.

I liked Yaichiro and Gyokuran's confession. Well, at least one of the brothers is going to get hitched and get together with the girl he loves.

Nidaime is sure an interesting character. I actually liked that Benten lost against him. Now, let's see if she's going to fall for him.

I think Benten has already fallen for Nidaime and that was the reason why she lost. I think that's what Yasaburo was hinting at.

Dam Nidaime gave Benten the business lol. She was not prepared for that kind of gender equality. Honestly she kind of had it coming with the way she treated everyone in the show and expects them to always service her. Confession was cute too and also glad to see the twins get knocked down a peg by their big sis.

The ED pictures make it feel that way, since they are shots of scenes we don't get to see in the actual episodes, like when Benten was flying and noticed the two brothers were in the roof with Nidaime.

Yep, and think how important that is, it shows that the whole reason Benten went into the house was because she was jealous that Yasuburo went there. She pretty much admitted that on the roof of the train ("who do you like more"). On that note, isn't it telling that every time she meets Yasaburo she asks if he missed her or whether he was there to see her?

This is what I think most people miss about Benten. She isn't arrogant, she is lonely, she literally does not belong anywhere in this world - she isn't Tengu, she isn't Human, she isn't a Tanuki. She tried hanging out with the Inyo people (Jyurojin and that lot), but didn't fit in there either, everyone "loves" her for being beautiful, but no one loves her for herself.

But this will be flushed out over the next 7 episodes. My only fear is that we won't get an ending. A third novel is said to be in the works, I haven't read the first two yet so have no idea where we are at.

How is Nidaime antagonistic? Benten has been the one to escalate things so far.

She shows up at his house uninvited, he asks her to leave and she refuses. He even had the courtesy to lay down a sheet before kicking her ass off the chaise, she then sullies his freshly ironed shirts out of pettiness. As we see in this episode she steals the chaise, if anything Nidaime has been on the defensive with Benten provoking him. Although, we don't know much about him yet, perhaps beneath that gentlemanly veneer he's up to no good.

Wow! I did not expect this episode to be so good! Benten really looks sad at the end of the episode because she lose herself to Nidaime-kun. Hoping that Tengu grampy and Yasaburo would help her. Those moments while flying in the air and battling with evil Ginkaku and Kinkaku were funny. I really love this episode and one of the best up to a point.

I was glad how quickly they resolved Gyokuran's disappearance last time. And how Yasaburo and Yaichiro's first reaction was to follow right after her. Oh me of little faith I honestly thought maybe she'd been kidnapped by Tenmaya or something like that. Something very boring. I also thought this episode did a good job advancing Yaichiro and Gyokuran's relationship. It was clumsy but cute and endearing. I always like when Akadama's dere side comes out.

I thought this battle of luxury cruisers was even more entertaining than last time. And it was cool seeing Yajiro's bus form again. I also liked Gyokuran just tearing the little Ebisugawa twerps apart. The ending of the episode was the most compelling part though. I was unsure (even with the hint in the eye catch) whether The Nidaime or Benten would come out on top. That was certainly not how I expected it to go. And I'm curious what Benten will do next. And how Akadama who's been furiously trying to deny the Nidaime will react to this.

I might be jumping to conclusions by saying that he's kind of antagonistic, but there hasn't been much shed about his past or his present appearances so far that, for me, really clarifies him as a good guy. Although he has had every right to be on the defensive against a Benten who has been provoking him too much, but I'm thinking she might have more of a reason to why she's doing this, other than being selfish and jealous or something.

We need to see just what exactly happened between the two in London before we can decide who is more antagonistic than the other.

She did ask Yasaburo on the train "Who do you like more?", in which she's referring to Nidaime in that question. She could be jealous that Nidaime's got Yasaburo's attention more, but like Takuna_Soho mentioned, she could be lonely because she doesn't fit in with either Tengu, Humans or Tanuki alike.

Either way, I'm sure these questions about Benten and Nidaime will be answered eventually. It's giving my brain a bit or a workout trying to understand what's going on, to be honest, but that's what makes this show really engaging and fun! ^_^

Totally agreed!! 😝 You mean when Yasaburo said he felt sad seeing Benten's expression when she was about to attack Nidaime, right? I think it's natural for Benten to fall for the only guy she can't manipulate, or who isn't afraid of her or in love with her.

In next week's episode there's a grubby lilac-haired person carrying a dead pheasant. Is that Benten after her haircut?

I think it's almost certain now that it's Akadama and Benten in the ending credits piggyback scene. The setting, time of day, and Benten's kimono match this episode. Also he always wears those tall geta.

But Akadama hurt his back. So if that is him, this could mean soon he'll recover enough to fly again.

In a sense, it is even more interesting to see this anime, especially because the snooty Benten, is humiliating again, and his defeat is even more searing. The story advances, despite appearances to the contrary. Interestingly, the question of the secret room of Yasaburo's father, I would like one too, occupy so little space. Eheheh!

Yeah, they don't explain very much in this series. Was the secret room a gift from Akadama to Soichiro? Does the portal on the shogi board only open after 2 people who are in love finish a game of shogi?

I wish they translate the novels, 'cause I wonder if it explains things more there....

Probably the best episode so far even though I find both brothers annoying everytime they show up (you can tell me it's intentional but still, their blabbering is always bad).

Also, we have a villain for sake of having villain. In other words - to let Benten grow. Otherwise, he's not really interesting character.

-that hole makes such a funny sound
-for a second i thought yasaburo and akadama were talking about the tenmaya dude
-huh, i randomly noticed that everyone in the crowd shots in this episode were all conventionally animated. pretty cool actually
-gyokuran is just goin in
-oh lmfao that wasn't her
-these subs are super inconsistent
-akadama the ultimate wingman heh
-man that scene in the sky was pretty cozy until benten fucking came along
-the problem is benten
-kinkaku and ginkaku singlehandedly saving the scnee
-damn, gyokuran just goin in
-kinkaku and ginkaku are treasures
-that was a pretty sick dogfight
-hell fuckin yea dude, benten should get bodied like that more often

If there's one thing I still don't understand from either of the seasons of this show, it's Yasaburo's fascination with that smug purple-haired asshole. She's just so pointlessly problematic and always starting trouble. Benten being absolutely BTFO at the end was just super cathartic.
Aside from the episode being sullied in the middle by Benten's appearance, the episode wasn't anything too spectacular apart from the Kinkaku and Ginkaku shenanigans. Unfortunately it seems like Yasaburo is actually gonna try to redeem Benten, and I'm not looking forward to that at all.

Oh my god. Omg omg omg. Finally. FINALLY!! I've liked Gyokuran since she first appeared and I fully support her with Yaichirou. I was so happy to see that moment! (๑˃̵ ᴗ˂̵)و♡♡♡♡ but who would have thought that the reason why the secret shogi room was connected to Sensei's place had something to do with So-san and Tousen's story before marriage? :3

But of course the calm didn't last long as the stupid twins came back to repeat the same stupidity while Gyokuran again made me admire her by throwing those great lines at the twins xD

Woah, woah. It seems that the grudge between Nidaime and Benten is really a serious matter. Benten is a strong and powerful human-tengu, but seeing Nidaime defeat her so easily proves that not only is Nidaime far superior to Benten but also the hatred he feels for Benten runs deep.

Anyway, I really like Yajirou's words in this ep,

"Well, it's not lonely. My belly is warming up from everyone's merriment. Living as a frog at the bottom of a well means that your belly is always getting cold."

Grandma, did you hear that? Yajirou finally felt the warmth within him. Let's hope that he can return to his human and tanuki form soon :')
