I sort of liked when Ritsu had no powers. It was a fair trade in my opinion for him to have everything Mob longed for and that feeling was reflected in Ritsu.

This past-faced episode completely ignored the build-up to Ritsu's struggles. I really hate how they are rushing this arc.

People can't understand why Ritsu did what he did and others are just saying "he's obsessed with psychic powers" or "he's jeolous of Mob" which are shallow and doesn't do Ritsu's character justice.

Glad to see more scenes in Ritsu's perspective. Damn! Onigawara was just set up so badly. Oh yeah Dimple is back, I thought he was exorcised. Hype for the next episode, looks like a team up of Ritsu and Dimple.

The plot thickens. Good episode with a few new characters. I am happy to say that I have no clue where the story is going. I still have some questions, though.

Why was Ritsu shocked, when the vice pres told him not to act like his brother? Was he saying: "Youre not as special, so dont bother?"

Is it commonly known at school, that his brother has psychic powers?

How did the student counsil pres figure out Ritsu so easily, and how did that motivate Ritsu to frame the other kid?

Most of the students don't know about Mob's powers. Ritsu is a popular and good student but he tries not to stand out. I think the vice pres was trying to say that he's limiting himself by trying to be like Mob, who doesn't stand out and seems completely average. Ritsu can't really enjoy his good grades and popularity because he's so fixated on psychic powers and has low self esteem because he doesn't have them.

I think he's bothered by the praise he gets because it doesn't match what he really thinks of himself, as inadequate because he doesn't have psychic powers. So that and the fact that he wants to get rid of delinquents to make Mob less likely to explode is his motivation.

The point of that exchange was the double meaning. The vice president was trying to say: "don't force yourself to be average like your brother". Ritu understood that as "Don't pretend to be an esper like your brother".

Thanks for clearing that up. And how did the president knew that Ritsu was bothered by all the praise? Was that covered in the manga?

Or maybe "Give up on being an esper". The double meaning of that statement, thats pretty good writing. I appreciate that.

I don't like using this word too much because I found that most of the time the term is thrown around without much meaning behind it, but BONES is really doing a fantastic job with the pacing so far. For an arc as dialogue-heavy as the Big Clean up, getting through it in a single episode without leaving out any of the important elements is pretty damn impressive. And while I appreciated the slower build-up in the manga, I understand that some fat needed to be trimmed down in order to fit into an anime adaptation with limited runtime and number of episodes.

Some minor things like Tokugawa's conversation with Kamuro the morning of the "set up", the Psycho Helmet Cult reunion and Ritsu's three whole trips to the Awakening Lab were left out (as well as a certain panel of Ritsu that most manga readers will probably be sad not see animated), but fortunately none of them have any kind of bearing on the core element of this arc, namely Ritsu being led astray. Not everything is spelled out in the anime but some re-arranged scenes like Ritsu catching Mob and Onigawara at the wrong time, as well as the excellent direction and use of visual storytelling perfectly conveyed his internal struggle and the negative progression that happens consequently.
They also added some extra humour which I felt was sorely needed at the time I first read the manga, since the tone was disturbingly serious for an arc that was mostly dealing with middle school hijinks.

I was initially worried about how they would manage to cram all those chapters into one episode but overall I have to say I'm very satisfied with what the staff is doing with Mob Psycho rn, as the show keeps exceeding my expectations week after week. Next episodes are gonna be hype as fuck.

I have this theory where I think that Ritsu himself will turn as the bad guy at the end, looking at how he is so obsessed with his brother and psychic power, but choose not to bring that interest to surface and suppress it. This episode just strengthen my assumption. Also, he has certain traits that fix for twisted evil character.

And did anyone else notice note about illegal downloading at the next episode preview narration too?

Reigan, despite being a bastard and scum who can't stop ripping off money from people and being here seemingly for comedy only (lol him contacting the dead), does say some surprisingly good things to Mob. He tells Mob not to suppress his powers but to control them because he has talent. His powers aren't bad, it all depends on how you use them. His powers have helped out people so he should look at the positive side rather than the negatives. If he can control his powers properly, he may be able to stop his powers from hurting people.

Ritsu and Shigeo are jealous of each other. They believe the other is special while they are not. Ritsu tries to not be in the spotlight despite having all the talents in the world and Shigeo desires to be in the spotlight despite not having anything special (that's what he thinks though). Both are looking down on themselves and underestimate their own abilities because they believe that their abilities and talents are nothing compared to what their brother has. They aren't looking at the positives they have themselves. They can do a lot of things but they're only thinking about how to become more like the other. And when Ritsu was told off by someone that he should stop trying to become like his brother and when the student council president tells him that they're getting praise even though they're not really deserving, Ritsu unleashes his dark side and professionally frames Onigawara for a crime he did not commit. I really felt sorry for him. And he was changing too at that.

Those "psychic" kids were hilarious though. Lol how that guy bent the spoon. And then the two brothers had that useless ability to communicate with each other even though mobile phones have already been invented lol. And then that girl had the ability to make good guesses more frequently than others lol. They were pretty useless kids lol. And Ritsu joins them to bring out his own psychic powers. And I'm not sure whether it was that man's doing or not, but Ritsu now has psychic powers and may be as strong as Shigeo. He could possibly be possessed by something just like Shigeo is. And thanks to that, he can see Dimple who is back for whatever reason. And now since Ritsu has what he wants, his life is complete and now he may try to become less like his brother and the psychic powers may start getting to his head like Teru.

The next episode preview tells that Ritsu will be doing stuff with Dimple. Dimple may just have found Shigeo's replacement as Ritsu may be willing to use his psychic abilities. He would probably later on come to know why Shigeo doesn't use his powers and that psychic powers aren't everything or something.

I wouldn't exactly say Reigen is ripping people off.

He attends to their needs and lets them leave satisfied while charging them pennies compared to what a similar service costs from another agency (even just comparing his massages with other masseurs). (And doesn't take their money if they aren't satified or feels himself the result wasn't worth it).

Even Mob you could argue isn't being ripped off since Reigen is paying him apprentice wages and offering free consultation and instruction.

Hmm I don't like what happened to Onigawara >.> He wasn't even in the building until that moment. I really hope Ritsu gets his shit together and and exposes that fucking student council president.

It's not hard to see why Ritsu played along with it considering how high everyone values him while talking his brother down at every chance. But it was still a shit move. I really hope he gets it together and clarifies what actually happened. Even if it might be too late already. Probably the whole school knows Onigawara as pervert already by now.

I honestly never thought I'd give a damn about Onigawara, but now I really want Mob to take his defense.

As for Ritsu, I predict he's going to be an asshole pretty soon. I mean he already kinda is one for that stunt he pulled with the pres, but you know he'll probably explode at his brother or something. As for his powers, what if they aren't even his? I feel like there's foreshadowing being done here. First there's the strange adult who's obsessed with psychic powers, then there's that menacing aura surrounding a strange adult that mob notices but leaves unchecked. Plus Mob is started to reject his powers. What if one of these things are causing Ritsu to see Dimple? (I'm glad Dimple is back)

I could see the muscle building club taking in Onigawara, those dudes are hella bros. When they were first introduced I thought they'd leave Mob in the dust just as soon as he secured their club rights.

I'm more intrigued by the hooded adult esper and the fact he/she now walks into the screen during the OP instead of just fading in.
And apparently the manga makes a big deal of the fact that there aren't many adult espers so I'm betting on him/her being the main antagonist for this season

I always thought Mob's spoon bent at dinner because of Ritsu's subconscious, passive-aggressive psychic powers suddenly spiking, and his jealousy would just bend it.

But I guess not since he just now developed them?
I actually liked that Ritsu didn't habe powers, it really helped with the character dynamics.
But this series seems able to make anything work, so let's see where it goes from here

Oh shiz. First off, I want to say I've always really loved how supportive and sweet the Body Improvement Club is. Shigeo really made a good choice joining that club over what I would say is the very tempting laziness of the Telepathy Club.

Now here's the thing about Ritsu: I understand him. Wanting to stand out or at least be "as special" as your sibling is something a lot of people deal with-- heck, we have two characters going through it in the same anime right now. (Seems the student council is where they gather. :U ) BUT, the recorder scene was definitely not one of Ritsu's best moments. It's hard for people to come to terms with being completely average and normal while others around them seem to be so much more amazing, and in the process, they often try to drag people down to their level in one way or another after failing to reach the same level or not wanting to try to reach the same level without seeming "weird" or working too hard.
"How dare you not try to be like everyone else. I consider that abnormal. I have a problem with that." I see it a lot on these forums actually when it comes to multiple topics. I'm interested in how others will relate to Ritsu's dilemma... but in the end I guess he actually is special so I won't be able to see truly maybe.

I feel so bad for Tenga though and I hope that things get resolved for him. I've always despised when a character gets blamed and punished for something they never did-- when as a watcher, you know what happened. It's always been a reeeally frustrating plot point for me even as a kid. By that I don't mean the quality of the media they were in decreased or anything, it was just always frustrating.
