I’m just your average college student who happens to watch anime. I'm very studious and I also run track and cross country. I also enjoy volunteering in my community as well as working my part-time job. In many ways, I am a model student, save for the anime.
I've been on MAL for 6 years now. (That's nothing compared to folks who've been here since '07, but meh!) Finally, I've found an identity for myself as an anime fan without needing to ham it up to try and meet the standards I've seen on other people's profiles. I don't have to overthink every little thing I say like some light novel protagonist anymore.
In my time as an anime fan, I've found that I can enjoy a great variety of genres. However, I will always look back fondly on my good ol' shounen action shows. Also, my favorite shounen action shows over the years is surprising a very thorough way to summarize how my taste has evolved. Franchises such as Pokemon and Beyblade introduced me to this lovely medium in my childhood. I connected deeply with Naruto around 2014. (Never finished Shippuden though since my interest waned after 400 episodes of the same ninjas doing the same stuff).
I got very into Fairy Tail in for most of 2015. During that time, I expanded my genres with a variety of critically acclaimed shows along with a few random ones. Even though I gave out 10s to both Steins Gate and Cowboy Bebop at the time, I couldn't consider them favorites due to my love for longer shows. I was also trying to have 'good taste' I guess? Someday I need to rewatch em to see if I still like them. xD
I also got into One Piece in 2015 and through its similarities with Fairy Tail, I began to see the flaws in Fairy Tail. I'm glad One Piece is still super popular, it really deserves the spotlight.
During 2016, Detective Conan slowly fell into the slot of 'favorite shounen.' I was growing less and less invested in Fairy Tail and just couldn't look at it as fondly as I used to. My brother also stopped watching One Piece with me. (I still love OP, just can't find time to watch it) It's just that Conan was new and exciting! It was also less well-known than its predecessors. I've always liked watching relatively obscure anime.
Since Conan isn't technically shounen action, I have another favorite from 2016. I got really into watching seasonals that year and got all in on the My Hero Academia hype train. I loved the idea of watching what would become the new Naruto or whatever.
And in 2018, I returned to my roots. In that year, I watched Yu Yu Hakusho and can say with confidence that Togashi is a god. Hunter X Hunter, here I come! (No joke, Yu Yu Hakusho was been a great ride. Lovely aesthetic, great main character, fun fights, what else is there to ask for?) Not only that, but I started watching Yugioh, the childhood anime that wasn't part of my childhood! It's dumb fun and a blast to watch with my brother. I will never get tired of characters working hard and yelling about friendship.
If you are interested in being my friend, feel free to message me. Thanks for stopping by my profile and I hope you have a lovely day. ^^
578 animes completed impressive.
I have not seen it yet, but "run with the wind" appears to be an anime about running.
Keep up the good work volunteering and such!
Yeah, I see where you're coming from, but to me, while Chitose was a bit relatable, she was too much of an ass to everyone around her to really be funny. She did develop a lot as a character but in the end, it wasn't enough for me to call her enjoyable as a protagonist. The fact that she wanted to make it big and put in the bare-minimum effort to try and achieve her goal, naturally didn't achieve her goal, and then complained about it as if it wasn't her fault really irritated me. Plus, the fact that Gojou pointed this out to her on multiple occasions and tried to give her legitimate advice and Chitose just totally ignoring him pissed me off even more. Chitose was what ruined the show for me, and even though she did get development throughout the series, even Kuzu ended up getting more development than she did by the end.
I hope you're doing well this spring and I can't wait to watch the Vinland Saga anime this summer (hopefully, it'll be a rated R anime), but I also want get into the new Fafner movie some time and the Fafner series are original plus the series are also close to being rated R. Btw, I think you have good taste in anime so far.
Japan doesn't have significant age barriers and yet many anime made for kids these days. Many anime are still based on basic literature, which I'm picky about.
So anyway! yeah! I encourage you to give Outlaw Star a chance some time. I've watched it like 4 times already and it's still the best sci-fi anime in a long time.
