LOL How evil of you. But given how this series handled Kousei's mother drama I don't think they will be able to stuff all that into next 11 episodes. You have to be more modest in your desires :-P

Want evil but easier to show?

After lifting death flags left and right, an accident happens and the entire main cast dies, except Kaori. Months later her parents are told Kaori was misdiagnosed and with a different treatment she can lead a healthy life for over 50 years, but it's impossible to inform her as she is in a PTSD triggered catatonic state.

I wish there was more discussion on the actual classical rather than the anime.

I'll probably criticize it later but I wish they wouldn't throw more Chopin. They'll also including Tchaikovsky, Debussy and Ravel. Does Japan neglect baroque-period music or they just think it doesn't have potential to attract the audience?

The answer is yes :< Well, I think it's less appealing for an audience that's not familiar with classical, from my experiences. I used to take choral class and our teacher played a lot of different types of music. The one that gets least attention is baroque period music.

Clair de Lune is very appealing, so yeah ofc they'd put it in there >_>

I want to hear some piano duets or chamber trios. That'd be even more exciting.

Hiroko might be my favourite character! She's going to help him!

Oh I have a feeling Kaori is hiding something huge and that comment to her violin makes me think that whatever is going to happen will not be a happy thing *sigh*

One of the most important aspects of this episode, in my opinion, is the revelation that Kousei's mother did not originally want him to be a pianist. She knew that it is a tough life and didn't wish "her treasure" to be harmed by it. It is clearly indicated that Hiroko is the one who convinced her to pursue his talent, so his "new" teacher seems to have some pretty heavy baggage that she is bringing to the party.

Meanwhile, the death flags continue to rise up around Kaori. I can only hope that they are all red herrings and she will be just fine at the end...

(Hey! I can delude myself all I want! right?)

Sometimes, while I was reading these comments I had to check to make sure I had clicked on the right episode discussion thread. I mean, I could swear I read these exact same comments on every single thread since episode one.

This is definitely my pick for AOTS, there have been some really good shows this season but nothing as great as this one. My rating for the first half of the series is 10/10, here's to hoping the second half doesn't let quality slip.

I already knew Hiroko would become his teacher, even without reading the manga I predicted it when she appeared in the last episode. I'm also getting a bit tired of all of these way too obvious death flags, at this point I cannot help but assume they are a red herring to build tension instead of actual foreshadowing the demise of one of the better characters this show has provided. But, I think at this point I'm sort of shipping Arima x Emi no matter how much I love Kaori.

I'm also starting to think that the entire reason Kaori got Tsubaki to introduce her to Watari was to provide an excuse to get close to Arima. Everyone seems to be fully aware of how Watari tries to be a player, and even though she asked to be hooked up with him she's really paid much attention to him at all. She knows she's ill, and may die in the near future, thus instead of going straight for Arima she uses Watari as an excuse to not get romantically involved with Arima while still being able to be at his side and help him along his journey. Seems plausible. Probably not likely, but plausible.

Considering I've not read the manga, I'm curious if this series will be able to cover the entire run in 22 episodes. I hear the manga is only like 44 chapters or something like that, though I could be getting it wrong.
Odds are I'm not going to find my way back to a thread after my first post, it happens on occasion but not often. So, if I say something that offends you and you feel the need to force your opinion on me because obviously everyone should have your opinion or none at all, feel free to post it in the thread that I'll probably never see again. However, if you are interested in intelligent discourse, feel free to message me.

I think its harder to get into baroque by choral music, especially if you don't follow christianism. Its still insanely great but it you have to pay closer attention to it in order to get into. On the other hand, I think chamber music is something that could work pretty well, specially because of the violin.

Yeah, its a quite accessible piece. We can expect more passionate posts regarding it later.

Is there any particular piece you want to see there? For trios Haydn and Beethoven are the first thing to come in mind.

Also, its totally not going to happen but I wish they would mess up with some lieder just for the fun, like Miyazaki did in The Wind Rises. That scene in the bar where they play some parts from Winterreise was just terrific.

Just kill Kaori already ffs!

Emi is clearly the best girl but Kousei doesn't deserve her either so let soccer boy bang Tsubaki and Emi in an epic threesome.

PS: that whole analogy about superhero makes me want to shoot rival boy in the head and then blast the author's workplace to oblivion just to see if Batman would come and save them in time.

Fuuuh~ I caught up with this episode way later than I used to.. >_>

Anywaaaay... it's a slow episode, as expected. It's the end of the first cour, after all. Especially after a "massive" episode like last week, it's very expected that the next episode will pull a brake.

The starter and the middle of episode didn't really do much, but dat ending scene was beautiful. The imagery was played out nice, the emotion was brought up well, AND DAT BACKGROUND MUSIC. Without that, the episode's value may slightly smaller.

4.1/5, for the ending and the expectation of slow episode. The next cour's gonna start at January, eh? Not bad. I already read the manga, so I can't wait to see how the anime will play it out.

Overall first cour is 8/10, for me of course.

And oh, yeah, the death flag. Much wow. At this rate, Kao-chan's death flag will be on the level of AgK characters.

HOW TO SAVE ANIME IN THREE SIMPLE STEPS

  1. To have Mars of Destruction, Skelter Heaven, and Pupa properly adapted in TV series form by Madhouse
  2. To have Inferno Cop properly adapted in TV series form by Bones, director: Urobuchi Gen
  3. An anime crossover of Mushishi x ARIA x Haibane Renmei.

Should even one of the above conditions cannot be done, anime is still at risk.

Kousei is starting to mature and grow as a pianist and as a person. I love the whole scene where Takeshi saw Kousei as a hero, and how he realized he was only human.

A few more hints about Kaori's condition/health. Even though I know something will happen to her, I'm not ready (never will be tbh). Kousei finally has a reason to play again, now he will lose it all over again.

I'm praying for more KaorixKousei moments. "I had you" was too small, too weak. Before anything drastic happens I want to see them together for just a little while longer.

This show is beautiful and it only keeps getting better and better. I can't wait for the next episode.

I like how this show has more monologues than F/SN: UBW despite UBW needing them the most.

Something fishy happened near the beginning of the episode... Kousei's mother not only seemed nice and like a good parent (gasp!), but she told Hiroko there's no way she'd train Kousei to be a pianist... so what happened?

On the note of Hiroko, HOT DAMN NIGGA SHE'S A MILF.

For those who are curious, the insert song that played near the end was called "My Truth" which was sung by ENA. It shows up during the ED credits.

As for the episode itself, I actually really enjoyed it a lot and was happy that Kousei finally realised he can severe his strings as his mothers' puppet now.

Well, so far there's no cello player buuut...Schubert Piano Trio No.1 would be cool. In Nodame Cantabile, they had an actual chamber trio (timpani, piano, violin) at one point. As for piano duets, Mozart's Sonata for 2 Pianos (which was in Nodame as well) is nice.

I have to check out The Wind Rises now ><

Yeah yeah possible death flags, but I personally don't think she's going to die. Rather it seems all it would take to break Kousei's reason for playing is if Kaori just wasn't able to play anymore, whether she'd end up in a similar state to Kousei's mum, perhaps.

Better pacing this time around, I enjoyed it and while Emi was basically no comment and Takeshi just realised Kousei is just a regular person that bit with Hiroko reminiscing about when he was just born was quite an interesting revelation there.
