Okay... I liked this episode, don't get me wrong but I'm starting to get kind of annoyed with the Gatchaman never actually fighting. We are 7 episodes into this anime and the only actual short fight we saw was the first one in the first episode.

I'm getting tired of Hajime's "care and at the same time don't care"-attitude.
I really liked her at the beginning and thought she would actually fight against Berg Katze but she just talks casually to it while two of her friends are nearly dead. There is a point where you have to draw a line, really... Lucky for her she has Utsutsu who can heal them but what if she wasn't there? Would she still just let them lie there dying while she asks Berg Katze some stupid questions?

And at the same time Utsutsu is slowly sacrificing her life force because her friends almost died... and Hajime doesn't even care about that, too.
Pai-Pai turned badass and than completely coward in two seconds... Even if you are too scared to fight, you don't even try to save your friends? You were right, Pai-Pai, you really are a useless Leader.

Hajime has to realize that you can't just "meet" and be friends with everyone. She should've learned by now that she can't reason with Berg Katze, because it just wants to destroy the world.
First she talks to Pai-Pai of how they have to decide something even if it's scary to change something... and in the end she herself does nothing at all... awesome.

Right now I'm really disappointed with the Gatchaman...

It's like they told Mamoru Miyano to go nuts. And he did. And it was awesome.

I was waiting for Berg Katze and Hajime to finally meet. They played off of each other so well. Nice performances by the two.

Tbh your problem is you don't really get Hajime's intentions. This isn't a stupid girl.

You like the blonde one are looking straight ahead and just want to see good defeat evil while Hajime realizes it isn't always that black and white. Instead she tries to understand her enemy and see if the problem can be resolved without fighting.

In regards to Katze even if her friends were getting killed at his hands, what could Hajime do? Hajime would just end up getting destroyed like the others compounding the problem and putting Utsutsu in danger. Trying to fight Katze would be stupid.

If Utsutsu were not there her actions probably would be different, but she probably still wouldnt fight Katze and would focus on either distracting him or moving the other two to a safer location.

Pai-Pai is a joke character. He is there for comedic effect and has done so successfully.

She didn't make a decision because its stupid to do so without knowing what you're dealing with. Everyone assumes that Berg Katze wants to destroy the world just like everyone assumed the MESS were evil and wanted to harm humans. Perception doesn't always equal reality and instead of doing something stupid like making a rash decision, Hajime at least tried to ascertain Katze's nature and intentions and was able to get another clue out of him while saving her friends.

I also don't think it is a coincidence that Hajime couldn't see Katze. Katze preys on the weaknesses of human hearts. I don't think it is a coincidence that the only character who couldn't see Katze was the one character who doesn't have such a weakness.

Really entertaining episode one of the best so far.

This is a really strange show, I really can't make up my mind about it. I can't tell if I think it's good or just entertaining. Well the only thing I know is that it's one of the shows that I look forward to the most every week this season so that has to be a good sign, one way or another it really manages to keep me at the edge of my seat.

Hajime... makes rush decisions all the time. She was the one who wanted Pai-Pai decide all the time on what to do next. She was one of the first ones who wanted to confront Berg Katze.

She didn't know what she was dealing with when she "meet" the Mess either - Actually she was just lucky. She couldn't possibly predict what would happen when she showed the world that Gatchaman actually exist. Even if they try to imply in the anime she is actually really smart and thinks about all that stuff beforehand... this all doesn't makes any sense.

And they don't know the real intentions of Berg Katze? It mentioned a few times that it wants the world to go up in big red blaze and the world shines the prettiest when it's destroyed. In the end of the conversations it even said it is not satisfied at all yet. It slowly plunges the world into chaos by all the little accidents it is causing. Aside from Pai-Pai and the other guy (forgot his name just now) mentioning it destroyed every planet it appeard on until now.
It doesn't really seem like it's intentions are unclear... and even if there is another point to it all, it still rampages around killing innocent people, so yeah...

And Hajime wouldn't stand a chance so she didn't fight, right? Again lucky for her Berg Katze stopped attacking for no reason and disappeared instead of just finishing off everybody. So it doesn't has anything to do with her being smart about it... just alot of lucky coincidence.

Also about Pai-Pai... I didn't think it was funny, I think it was build up for then nothing happening at all. Maybe I have a little different taste in Anime but I like when characters finally take a stand for what is right. I don't like it over the top and all the time, but the amount of build up in this EP for the Gatchaman to finally make a move was just right... and in the end... good for Hajime that she somehow knew... she could stop Berg Katze by talking even though she never dealt with it before. It just completely trashed 3 people, kills innocents all the time... I would've bet that trying to fight it had a higher chance of success... than talking... But I must be not as smart as Hajime...

You're silly.

1. Pai-pai made himself the leader. But while Jou is in the middle of fighting, he expresses the fear that Jou can't possibly win, thus revealing that he had been keeping secrets about Berg from the rest of the team. Then he's paralysed in indecision. Hajime is 100% correct in pushing him to make a decision, because sitting there, Jou was going to get killed. The other alternative was for Hajime and Utsuru to head off on their own, but Paiman deserves a chance to try to redeem himself.

2. She took a calculated risk when she dealt with the MESS, because she observed that the MESS was never pro-active in attacking, but rather simply responded to what was being done to it. Certainly she didn't know for sure what was going on, but she was smart enough to realise that shooting first and asking questions later is not the right way. She couldn't possibly predict exactly what would happen when she revealed Gatchaman existed, but again, this was a calculated risk, because this was the fastest way of getting in contact with Rui. Sometimes risks have to be taken, because if you don't make those decisions, the status quo is that the situation continues to worsen. It's no different to choosing to fight the bad guy knowing that you might lose - this is how Hajime chooses to 'fight'.

3. Even if Berg is evil, understanding it is still important. For example, the way that it attacks by taking advantage of other people's insecurities. Knowing that is important. It also loves to talk, and brag. Again, that helps.

Only when you try to fight it, does it fight back with proportionate force. It doesn't just wipe out city blocks with tentacles, it only threw out the big stuff when Rui tried to use crowds on it.

I mean, look at what Hajime knew about Berg:

a. It's a Gatchaman. It did talk to Jou previously, and let him go unharmed, which means that at the very least it wants to ensure someone survives to carry off a message about what it's doing.
b. Paiman thinks that all of the Gatchaman combined would be insufficient to fight it.
c. The G-Crew is down to 2/6 combat capacity, and two members are unconscious and need to stabilised.
d. Sugane tried to fight, and was effortlessly beaten down by BK the moment he attempts to transform.
e. BK has not immediately attacked Hajime and Utsuru when they arrived, but decided instead to echo Utsuru's words. That means it can talk and understands what is being said.

At a minimum, talking to Katze buys time for Utsuru to heal the rest of the team. Do you really think that trying to fight it would be the smart thing to do? If so, you're out of my D&D party. :p

EDIT: Hajime doesn't know that Utsuru is doing a life force transfer. Kinda the problem with this team is all the secrets they keep from each other, but Hajime is trying to do her best.

If you don't like what happened with Pai-Pai, then you don't like his character at all. Like I said he is purely in this show for comedic effect. He is so ridiculous that its actually insane to take him seriously as a character.

You clearly arent as smart as Hajime. If it thrashed 3 people (all of which are arguably a lot stronger and more experienced than Hajime), the smart thing to do is to do the exact same thing they did right? Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Any idiot could see fighting it unnecessarily (keyword here) would end bad. Instead of immediately attacking it and ensuring a counter attack from Berg Katze by establishing herself as an enemy, she tried to avoid that. If it was completely unavoidable than she probably would have fought, but if she could avoid further confrontation, IT WAS SMART TO TRY AND DO SO. Even Pai-Pai and OD realized that it was smarter to avoid confrontation with him which is why they forbade it in a previous episode and tried to prevent Hajime and Utsutsu from fighting it this episode.

Hajime doesn't make rash decisions because clearly rash decisions means there is no thought behind them when it has been shown in the series time and again that there is a clear plan or logical course of thought behind each action. So you're absolutely wrong there.

She wanted Pai-Pai to make A DECISION (key here) in an emergency scenario because the result of inaction was clear (Joe's death and the blonde dude's death). The decision involved how to deal with the threat (either OD doing, them doing it, Pai-pai doing it, or having JJ give them guidance or whatever). All Hajime wanted was for a decision to be made about how to deal with said threat. The fact that she actually defers to Pai-pai and OD shows her intelligence because it shows that she realizes that they have much more knowledge of Berg Katze than she does and thus can make a more informed and probably better decision.

When dealing with Mess she apparently did realize something about it possibly not being an enemy and instead of destroying the Mess like every other time decided to let it go and do something different. Furthermore, JJ's prophecy also confirmed that it was up to them to decide whether or not the Mess were enemies which likely factored into the decision ("Maybe its not what I thought" implies this heavily)

As for revealing Gatchaman's existence. Two things could have happened

1. She didn't know about the cameras
2. She doesn't care if her identity as a gatchaman is known (which she stated several times that she was actually against the secrecy of it).

Either way, there was a logical train of thought in revealing her face to Rui as it established a connection allowing them to communicate and connect with Rui which she deemed was important and it turns out that it actually was because it allows her to meet Rui later.

Everything you mentioned in regards to Berg Katze's intentions are all results. Not one thing you mentioned has anything to do with the intent behind his actions. Last time I checked, you try to solve a problem at its root and knowing the why Berg Katze does what it does could either help stop him or prevent him from repeating the cycle. Either way, Hajime's conversation (from the point of view of the storyline) leads to the Gatchaman getting more information on Berg Katze and allows us as viewers a device through which this information is revealed.

It sounds to me like you want something very generic, straight-forward and imo boring in the anime you watch. You want your heroes and villains to be clearly established, to be static and generic with no motive or intention behind their actions ie I'm evil so I do bad things, and I'm good so I stop evil, and you of course want good to go and fight evil in physical confrontation with no thought at all. If you want something like that I suggest Bleach or Naruto (which aren't bad). However, that is not what this show is and that is not how this MC (Hajime) operates. To try and take everything at face value with her undermines her character a lot and understandably for you makes the show unenjoyable to watch.

Miyano Mamoru did an amazing job during that scene that he was going berserk.

He's insane laughing was just pleasing to hear for some reason.

He kill the hundreds and beats the shit out of Rui.

Joe got killed, shit.(Knew he was going to die but damn.)

On a less important note Pai-Pai transformed but no cares about him,Berg Katze was the star of this episode.

Miyano Mamoru's performance as Berg-Katse... it was simply magnificent! The way his voice varied through the different conversations, the undertones, the accent, the pitch... it makes me feel all tingly inside <3

Coupled with the character itself and the way he plays with Jou and Rui... it makes for one hell of an experience, I'll add Gatchaman Crowds to my favourites just for that.

Hajime is, of course, two-steps ahead of everyone, and is still as adorably wise as ever.

All in all, best episode so far!!

I can't see how a good choice would be to try to fight the very thing that just massacred 97 people (or comatosed them) and mortally wounded 3 of your friends over a few minutes, if anything, going head on to fight Berg Katze at that moment would be suicide unless you're someone as mysteriously powerful as O.D is.

And after watching the episode again, I am starting to doubt that the Crowds are really Katze's power as Rui thinks - I mean, if the Crowds are Berg's powers, why didn't he just go and turn all of them against Rui instead of killing them which was clearly out of his style? The latter actions seems more to be like "remember that I am one who unlocked that power in you so theres no way you can defeat me" instead of "hah, you're trying to use my powers against me?"

The way I am getting it, JJ and Katze obviously have the same powers, and similar to how the G-Crew has powers and are clearly human (in the case of Hajime, Sugane and Jou), I think Rui's case is pretty similar. The Crowds itself, is Rui's soul (G-Suit) , while his augmented power is being able to duplicate this effect and give the Crowds to others (while just as easily removing them) - something like Blog Diary and Apprentice Diary relation in Mirai Nikki expt Rui's Crowds are a lot more useful.

And remember when Hajime asked if the Gatchaman has ever fought together before in episode 5? I have a slight feeling that if the G-Crew (or humanity in general) are going to stand a chance against Katze, they will have to coordinate and work together as an actual team instead of trying to fight individually (and getting pummeled) like this episode have shown us. In turn, maybe Rui's method of using the Crowds would work if the people actually knew what they were up against and were able to work together instead of just standing there waiting for him to give the command code (or he could've just activiated it earlier before fighting Katze)

Hajime's character is so interesting. Early on it was easy to mistake her attitude for stupidity or naivete, but it's just her demeanor and it hides a pretty keen understanding of things. Certainly not your typical Genki Girl character and I certainly appreciate it.

This show really is quite a bit deeper than it seemed initially and I'm very happy.

I will also echo the praise for Miyano's voice work and reiterate my love for Maaya Uchida's performance and her quirky Hajime affectations (Hajime'ssu!). Definitely a one-two punch of Seiyuu greatness.

^this person understands!

Also Berg and Hajime's conversation may be more obvious if you keep in mind
i) Hajime is trying to pump Berg for info.
ii) Berg knows that Hajime is trying to pump him for info but wants to play along just to see her spirits crushed when she fails.
iii) Hajime also knows that Berg will likely play along given his recurring pattern but it will give her a fighting chance rather than being utterly blind.

In effect its 2 very smart people who has guessed each other's motives but one is supremely confident of his victory

Oh and guessing it now. Hajime will take over JJ for Earth. The strong reaction (for JJ) when Hajime mentioned she saw something has always been stocking in my mind and with JJ's non reaction to all the Berg antics, thats what i'm guessing

So I'm assuming Joe survived, then? That scene with Utsu-tsu and Hajime was sweet. Pai Pai is a shit leader lol and Hajime proves yet again why she's the best Gatchaman! :D

Amazing episode. My favorite so far. Pai-Pai's transformation was awesome, but I still dislike him as a leader...... (maybe he is right when it comes to avoiding dangerous situations, but he needs to act and do something instead of running away)

Yes, let's defeat the main antagonist halfway through the show just so we can say we resolved something. Way to miss the point.

I think Paiman is a good statement on ineffectual leadership. He always defers to JJ and expects him to deliver the answer, then Paiman gets to be middleman and pass along the orders, but that's it. When he does try to take initiative he can't follow through. But at least he's cute and cuddly so nobody will blame him for being useless.

Usually super genki characters get annoying, but I can't help but like Hajime's subtle airheaded brand of wisdom. Her reaction to random people on the Internet talking about her was perfect.

Mamoru really outplayed himself this time, what a great performance. Berg-Katze is really bizarre and creepy.

I'm glad Joe isn't dead. Also, I kinda lol'd at Berg-Katze talking to Hajime, they are unexpectedly in sync.

I want to see O.D's tranformation so bad.

Berg-katze is way too strong....
So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

It sounds to me like you... didn't read my post at all, because I mentioned that exact point so you don't have to speculate about what kind of anime I like. So I don't have any intetions to seriously react to your post either.

When you can't refute a post, the best thing to do is point out something the OP reiterated. That'll def show him lol

I was so amused at how Hajime just chatted casually with Berg.

Best episode so far. Miyano was made for that role, you can sense him having fun going wild acing the character, hearing him mimic the gatchaman was a delight.
Both Hajime and Katze seem to be on the same wave-length. I think Hajime is, although somewhat annoying, is a very interesting character. I don't like to be around such characters irl but I can handle them popping once a decade in an anime.
On the other hand OD is gradually growing on me, I liked him at first but now he seems more interesting with all the mystery around his wings that shouldn't be spread.
We saw a glimpse of Joe's inner feelings and thoughts, he's not really secure or confident as he shows and thinks, that is pretty interesting. Seeing his bird go in flames couple of times yet still managing to survive reminds me of a phoenix.

Isayama Hajime should be awarded The Manga with The Highest Inconsistencies of Characters' Appearances.
He keeps performing multiple plastic surgeries on those Shingeki No Kyojin characters in a SINGLE chapter.
Yes, I've read up to the latest chapter of Shingeki No Kyojin manga.
Forced myself to read through the kidsketching chapters after the anime's ended. At least from now on, I only have to go through the hell once a month.
Patiently awaiting SNK TV/movie/OVA anime-sequel.
The 2015 SNK live-action movie would probably suck.

Crazy ep.

It did get really dark this episode. Kind of scary. Katze just went full out, ruthlessly destroying Rui and killing The Hundred instantly. And that kiss he gave Jou made me feel so violated... And the ripping out of Jou's note was so violent and painful. Intense shit.

I have a theory for OD. He seemed to know about Katze and he never uses his power and hes mysterious. Maybe his note had been pulled out by Katze too and his powers have an evil side to it just like Rui and thats why he wont transform? idk

So 7 episodes in and there is no more CROWDS? Or will he just get a new group of 100 or perhaps use everyone in the world?

I'm obviously late watching this show and everyone who has seen it already knows the answer but I'm going to guess that this is what will happen. The realization of Rui's dream is that everyone would selflessly band together for the betterment of the planet. What better way than to save the world from Katse? So, I think the end will be a new formation of Crowds made of all of the people on Galax, ala the Genki Dama in DBZ.
