I think oshimi was pushing for the lust vs love theme in okaeri alice, thus kei being the lustful type. but thats also kinda transphobic as lust is something like a forbidden love; like something you're supposed to discipline yourself not to do. but i interpret it to be more of an internal conflict which a lotta teenagers face; lust or love. maybe her being trans was intentional and supposed to be a commentary of love in general, and how trans women are depicted.
