As expected from Makoto Shinkai this movie excelled in the visual department with extremely fluid animation and absolutely gorgeous scenery.

The soundtrack stood out to me surprisingly, expecially the intricate arpeggios and runs performed by the pianist at times. Glad to see that the storytelling didn't make use of unnecessary exposition which is unfortunately all too common nowadays.

I also liked the natural sounding dialogue and the relaxed pace, nothing felt rushed or dragging. That is, until the final climax. I would have preferred a bit more build-up for Takao's outburst which felt somewhat like it came out of nowhere for me with points that didn't got adressed before though that may have been the point, for example Yukari being secretive in regard to her personal life, which upset him. The part where Yukari claimed that he 'saved' her also didn't really convince me.

The incident that made Yukari quitting her job and their age difference also could have been more elaborated on to make them feel more than framework for the central conflict.
Still, it was a really enjoyable movie even though it could have been more polished regarding its plot.

Beautiful opening in the beginning. I loved the flow of the rain and visuals together. I loved Kana's role in this and I think she played her part as Yukari Yukino really well. The movie felt a little slow to me but I liked the feet scene as a sort of symbolism.

The visuals of the 45 minute film was beautiful though just as I expected from Makoto. The rain was fluid and I think Yukari's emotions flowed along with the rain in this movie as well.

Guys guys guys!!!
I watched it on animecrazy.net and the subbers didnt sub the VERY LAST FEW SECONDS after the credits of the movie! Q__Q

Someone please tell me what he said? ; _ ;

And I was kinda shocked that I saw it up because I thought it was supposed to be in japanese theaters... and then dvd and that whole long process... I still wonder why it came out so fast.
and i thought it was a legit movie.. but its only 46 minutes ; - ;

But anyway, this was BEAUTIFUL ; ___; <3

best part:

Who cares about age!!!!! T ////T
These two are perfect for eachother ; __ ;

In the end, he made the most beautiful pair of shoes for her ;__;

And I just love how the shoes he made for her... they arnt just shoes... they sort of describe her and look like that are just only meant for her. You can see it in them. (You know what I mean? ; //; ?)
I wish she got them in the end Q__Q </3

Personally the last sentence is essential for the end cause it shows how determined the main char is when he said he would come for her.
They will meet again.
The movie is just simply beautiful, from the visual to the audio, and script/screenplay. But they could elaborate and build up character feelings more to make more natural. Time constraining is the only bad thing about this work, I want moar, 45min arent enough.

Great art, just really great. But the story wasn't the best. Had some good lines and I liked the type of romance, though it felt a little cliche.

Art 9
Story 7

Overall I'm thinking a 7 or 8 for now.

This was better than 5cm per second and Voices of a distant star. Even though they aren't not together now he says he will come for her so this ended on a much better note. And wow you could take a screenshot at any point in the movie and have a excellent desktop background. http://imgur.com/a/lOBAQ#0 So needless to say the visuals were perfect. I like the piano piece that played somewhere in the middle of the movie.

Overall 9/10

Holy balls animation/art<3. Every scene is just so godlike ;__ ;.

Overall score 8/10. The story was good, but nothing spectacular to make me ball my eyes out or go "holy fuck." Animation is... Well I can't even describe it much more than what I did. Way beyond 10/10 though.

Overall, a solid movie. The visuals and soundtrack are both amazing, as expected from Shinkai Makoto; the story is also touching, but I feel that the build-up could've been done better. While this didn't feel nearly as dramatic and well written as 5 cm/second, it was still a very enjoyable watch.

Solid 8/10. The story itself is just a tad over mediocre. The execution, however, makes this short film worth remembering.

The art and animation are 11/10. Just takes your breath away.

Great art as expected. It gets me every time how well Shinkai's movies convey the japanese everyday live.
Music was great (only realized after watching the ending scroll that the music was by Kashiwa Daisuke, holy shit).
Excellent performance by Kana Hanazawa, I didn't even realize it was her while watching.

Story wasn't that impressive. But it was an audiovisual marvel, without a doubt.

Hmm breathtaking scenery indeed, great embrace scene might add, that director is rly something...cant wait for his next show

however I do have a question...does this director ever change his style, I mean have you noticed that all his romance movies have a kinda "sad" feeling to it ?

it does make sense that those two characters cant be together, she is 27 and he is 15...so thats pretty much illogical in the real world, but all his movies notice they had sad touches to it or is it just me that feels sad ?

HOPEFULLY he will announce his next work in the coming weeks, great movie I give it an 8/10, 10 for art and 7 for story

PS: Oh yeah and one more thing, HOW THE HELL that girl didn't get fat if she eats chocalate and drinks beer everyday!!! daaaamn talk about a girl's dream o.o

I think that's the beauty of Shinkai Makoto's films, his ability to just focus on little details of everyday life, things that people don't pay attention to on a normal daily basis. Not just the visuals and the soft bgm, but also the clarity of the sound effects, like the sound of rain or people's footsteps. He does a great job with the overall tone and atmosphere. I don't think you can get a more slice of life feeling than this. Another beautiful film by Shinkai Makoto, definitely wasn't a let down. Although I would've loved for the movie to be longer, I think it was perfect length. We see a glimpse of the interaction/relationship between the Takao and Yukino, and that's all we really needed. I didn't think I would cry, but I did. Somehow, the whole last part from when Takao and Yukino hugged and afterwards, I felt emotional about it all. Like with all of Shinkai's films, they're just so simple and beautiful, and there's no need for anything dramatic to happen for the audience to appreciate it.

By the way, the shoes that Takao made for Yukino I think suited her perfectly. ^^

just finished the movie, i wasnt as moved as i was by 5cm per second, but safe to say, this was a visual masterpiece. some parts looked so good you could easily be mistaken for thinking that its a Liva action segment filmed with amazing filters on it.

the ending left me a little disappointed, and i think many will agree with me when i say it could have used a bit longe of a running time.

overally.

story-8/10
visuals 11/10
music 7.5 (at least compared to tenmons previous scores. theres just something about the new composer that didn't sound as great as what tenmon can do, hopefully he will be back on shinkais next movie)

overall 8.5/10

they really could have done more with the 2 characters, the end just seemed a bit abrupt. and personally, i prefer tenmon doing the music. he hasnt done a soundtrack yet that hasnt been a hands down masterpiece worthy of comparing any and all other anime soundtracks to. this one, while great in its own regard, felt a little weaker, especially compared to other shinkai films.

still a great movie worth the watch, cant wait for my bluray to arrive. it certainly was better than one of the other main movies i was looking forward to this year, the wolf children ame and yuki.

You know what, one thing that I could not help thinking as I watch this movie is what difference the same animation could have made for another anime that strives to capture character and scenery in real life proportions - Aku no Hana. Of course the budget and the format (movie vs TV series) are different, but I just could not stop thinking about that.

People talk a lot about the last lines about walking and come for you, but the most memorable lines to me, except the emotional confrontation near the end, are the pair of Tanka from Manyoushu (ch.11) that bookend their first meeting in the park and their last (before getting true to each other). It is a beauty that so many tanka in Manyoushu are pairs in which one is the answer to the other in feeling and mood.

The lady to the man:
なるかみの すこしとよみて さしくもり あめもふらぬか きみをとどめむ
The thunder strikes softly. Can't the sky get a bit cloudy and rain falls a little. To keep you around. (my bad translation)

And the man answers:
なるかみの すこしとよみて ふらずとも わはとどまらむ, いもしとどめば
Even if there is no thunder or rain, I shall stay here, if it is your desire to keep me around. (my bad translation again)

Much better in mood and fits the dreamily beautiful scenery than the J-Pop song at the end.

Wow.

What made this movie good to me was the fact that it was able to make such a generic story feel so fresh. I don't think Makoto Shinkai's out to redefine this sort of love story as much as he is trying to embrace it and work with it.(had a friend help me piece that together XD) With that said, a solid 9/10 in my books for now because of all around solid execution. Not quite 5 cm per second level, but pretty damn close.

Finally, that scenery porn and music...holy crap those were amazing.
