Director: They'll fire me anyway, so I'll mess Magi more! Kill Sinbad OFFSCREEN! What Sin can heal off the curse? To hell with that. Jaffar killed him or he drowned or something. Hakuryuu X Morgi wait Isnan X Alibaba much better. Gay foe yay ftw! Make Hakuryuu the Ace who won't ever cry. Wait Haku X Ali moments? Aww. Ali will be defeated by Isnan but Haku arrives! Love triangle? Skip important things. Remove the best lines to save time. SAO battles. Don't end the series yet, so I'll have a lot more to mess. The budget is mine! Was there anything special about him you noticed in the recent 2 episodes? sinbad is pretty cool but it feels like he will die down the road, if not only because of the blood he got hit with, but how the story is having him train alibaba and aladdin. Those pages left the impression that Sinbad is not always the cool and peaceful guy he claims to be, but the anime seems to establish him this way for some reason. These pages are supposed to make us question Sinbad's motives, but it will be spoonfed for the viewers later at the end of the arc anyway, if they didn't mess them up of course. My point is, the problem is not only about those manga-readers who want the anime to follow the manga panel to panel, but the problem is obvious, it's a composition and animation problem. There are a lot of series that get changed from the original source or rushed, but they're done smartly and way better than A-1 did them; they've adapted like 90 chapters in the anime so far while cutting and changing a lot of important things. |

As someone who's only watched the Anime, I enjoyed it, sure I noticed some issues with the animation & it did seem a little ..rushed but I like the feel of the story & the characters too much to not enjoy an episode (Unless it gets really reallllly horrible). I do get the "Show not sticking to the original work" issue people are having, as I've had that problem with other forms of media. What's all this about the show being only 24-26 episodes? That seems odd. This show comes across like it should be long-running. They couldn't get a decent enough ending in only a few more episodes :/ |

LanceC said: Read it as well, some stuff were changed in the anime in that arc too, like the 2 guys from Al-Sarmen, and some other stuff were explained more thoroughly in there and the anime just skimmed over them and started throwing things without explaining anything (e.g. Solomon's Wisdom and how Alibaba was able to speak with Kassim inside the Djinn, that part is important for a later arc). Ugo and Aladdin's speech was way better as well, with some sculpture-like panels full of symbolism that A-1 deemed as unnecessary. Kassim had more depth to his character in there and some of his past was skipped as well from what I remember. Alibaba wasn't as annoying and also had more depth and was a way better character overall.<--- another anime-only junkie who thinks the episode was fine But if the anime is indeed ending soon like with Ao no Exorcist (read: badly) then it's time to start reading the manga. This episode contains quite a bit of material that may get PTA to raise objections lol And how come the two beast tamers in this season (Magi, Mondaiji) all have relatively unendowed chest? lol Will we see more important role played by Tiare the little girl whom Alibaba etc met at the pier? |
So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old? I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them? I wonder how long people would put up with this. As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series. |

I do enjoy the series, but I think I enjoy it more for the plot potential than what we've been given. There have been parts that I've really liked, and then other parts that I hardly even remember. Just seems to be something missing, but I'm usually quick to make quick "logical" justifications when I feel like something is off. For manga readers, how do you feel about Aladdin's character in the anime? I've seen a lot of displeasure with Alibaba's character, but not really with Aladdin, whom I feel at this point is just there. I just feel like they forgot to give him development and quality screentime and lines, aside from "oh shit boobs". His goals and wise outlook on situations don't seem to matter anymore. I get that the focus is on Alibaba and Sin(who's character leaves me with no real impression) for now, but Aladdin is also our main character, no? |

I think all the characters are less fierce/lively than the manga.. Aladdin's Solomon's wisdom entrance was really weak compared to the manga. That power is an interesting one and his origins are mysterious but the anime doesn't really pay much attention to it lol. There's also stuff from Yamu about magicians and types of magicians that was skipped out. Because its not really treated as very important it makes him less interesting and fun to look forward to as he grows. Kind of sad I guess. |

You're right about Aladdin just being there and he seems to shine the most when there's a boob scene. Aside from that he's pretty much forgettable right now. At least that's what I heard. Aladdin genuinely has fun and is quite curious about magic when he's learning it. He's also very observant about everything around him. Just how you expect a young boy to act. About Aladdin: I'll put it under a spoiler though it's not. -In the anime, Sinbad was telling him and Alibaba how their actually weak and then he suggests the mage and sword tutors to them. -In the manga, Sinbad tells them the same thing but Aladdin is the first one to say that he wants to learn more but he doesn't know what to do...then is when Sinbad introduces Yamu (the mage tutor). Not a big deal but the first one is like "here, go do this and learn" and the second is more of "I want to learn tell me what I can do." See how Aladdin's motivation changes a little? You're right though this part is not Aladdin-centric and he doesn't do all that much yet so that's why people don't complain about it. |

AlexTheRiot said: A-1 are repeating the same thing that happened with SAO, the anime is heavily focused on Alibaba to move the plot and Mor for the fan-service, and Aladdin was forgotten. The series is seriously one big mess. Another example of the difference between the development is the obese chapters and the reasons both Aladdin and Alibaba got fat, they were really important for their character development but it seems A-1 or Hiroyuki don't know shit about story-telling so he just want to adapt the most amount possible of the manga (one of the things that piss me off is how he's skipping the foreshadowing for a lot of characters, like Kouen, the king of the Kou recently, or Jamil, who became just another one-dimensional villain). There's also a chapter where Aladdin and Alibaba spoke after Al-Maharajan and it was also skipped. About him liking boobs, there's a reason for that and it was shown in the first chapter.I do enjoy the series, but I think I enjoy it more for the plot potential than what we've been given. ^That's what I'm getting. It seems they at some point gave up on structure and using our main characters goals and desires to properly drive the plot along, in order to skim through as much story as possible. As an example, Aladdin seems to forgot about Ugo and the bond they shared. They could at least give us one serious scene with him tthinking back on their last meeting, but at this point you almost forget that it happened. |

AlexTheRiot said: Yeah. In the manga the reason for Aladdin getting fat was: 1. Emotional reason: Ugo, his first friend, is not there anymore, thus Aladdin started eating more during the 6-month timeskip when he was in Sindria, and 2. Aladdin doesn't use his belly's powers anymore to summon Ugo, so no calories are being burnt. Here's obese Aladdin btw:^That's what I'm getting. But seriously, thankyou for confirming that Aladdin was going through distress over Ugo in the manga, I figured he probably would have. It seems like a huge bit of character development for him, and to just leave it out completely.. |

Aladdin's goal is to figure out who he is and what his potential is as a magi. I dunno if the anime has pointed it out, but a magi is extremely rare. Aladdin's existence happens to be a weird case since not even Judal knew about him. Also it's notable that Sinbad really wants to keep him as a magi of Sindria for political reasons. A magi is also the one who chooses a king candidate and guides this person through a dungeon (except Sinbad, he managed to do this on his own). In this episode note that Hakuryuu tells that he refuse to use Judal's power and that he wants to follow Aladdin instead. Most importantly for the plot is that Aladdin is the main support of Alibaba, I mean seriously, Ali would be a depressing mess without Aladdin kicking some sense into him. Their bond is very strong e.g. whenever they are apart they are really, reeeeally longing for each other (this is much more apparent in the manga). Aladdin's wish is to guide and support Alibaba to become king and having a reliable kid who believe in him so much is the driving force for Alibaba. AlexTheRiot said: As an example, Aladdin seems to forgot about Ugo and the bond they shared. Aladdin did remember Ugo in this episode since he still holds a grudge against princess Kougyoku. |

I assume you're referring to their "handshake" but that's a pretty halfhearted grudge imo. Again, Alibaba gets all the important 'inner conflict' time with his inability to accept Hakuryuu. Of course I understand that there's more to that and why showing that is important to the plot, but all we're shown of Aladdin's inner conflict is a hint that he's still 'a little pissed' but still able to make peace with the Princess. |

Even if it's gonna end soon, giving one character all the focus, in a story like this, is a pretty dumb idea. I just hope it's gonna go well next episode. Hakuryuu's character has been fine so far ;) Though I admit I'm interested in how Alibaba's conflict will be solved. |

The character development and coherent plot aren't quite there, but it always feels like it could turn into something more, which is why I keep watching. I still mildly enjoy this, but it really is a shame that we're apparently getting something much inferior to the manga. I usually watch the anime of a series, and then move on to the manga from where the anime left off, but due to the plot differences that people mention, it probably can't happen with Magi. Which is a shame, because I find it harder to marathon a manga from the start while sitting at a computer desk than to marathon an anime from the start. I'd love a reboot, but that's probably not happening for a long time, if ever. |

Haven't read the manga, still think it's quite a shitty anime. The only reason I'm still watching it is because I'm already this far in and it would be a shame to stop watching now.
